General chat thread

'Luv my pemmican, 'luv my jerky, 'luv my rubaboo, 'luv my canned goose, 'luv my smoked trout.

Packing up the last stuff now, next time I post here I will no longer have a home. I might also be in the hospital.

I ope the latter won't be the case. Best of luck, man.
Sadly I am in the hospital now. At minimum my old friend the atrial flutter is back alongside the COPD, diabetes, and hypertension.
A pulse of 48bpm is nobody's friend. I'm not having a good time.

Despite the pain I'm in and the anxiety about potential blood clots and stroke I find myself strangely happy being here in the hospital. It's like having people that care about me. I've barely spoken to anyone in person in months and not had anyone treat me with care in far longer.

No wonder my dreadful, all-consuming fear of death has been struggling with suicidal thoughts lately. No worries there though, my fear is easily winning that fight.

Can't wait to go walrus hunting if I'm gonna be honest.

So I'm in the hospital and feeling pretty shitty but there's also a channel on the TV in my room that is basically Law & Order 24/7.

Thus I'm sick, homeless, in the hospital, and I've got all the Law & Order my brain can eat. Plus free wifi.

So I guess there are bright sides even now.

Got the cardioversion today but it didn't fix my heart completely so they're gonna do cardiac ablation on Wednesday which will involve putting a catheter up through my groin into my heart to make scars inside my heart to stop the arrhythmia.

Supposedly it's very safe, but I'm still scared as fuck

I hope that everything goes well

I notice I have a lingering Audible credit from before I shut down my subscription half year ago. Any recommendations?

Okay, I asked around some friends and they have encountered the same phenomenon, despite it being weirdly specific, so I want to ask here too:

Do you know that weird state where you aren't quite awake yet, unable to move, your nose is congested, you are drooling on your pillow, and a strangely catchy pop song plays on repeat in your brain, one that feels familiar, but you can't place the name of it?

Again, it's weirdly specific, but apparently people besides me have experienced that before.

What are your overall tastes? Any genres you are into?

Sounds like a sleep paralysis demon with aspirations towards being an idol/pop star.

Scifi and fantasy mostly, I like horror too.

Currently have all the 3 Body Problem books
Dune
Brain Wave
A few Horus Heresy books
the Scholomance books

Not looking to get any more Dune or 40k or adjacent books
Right off the top of my head:

The Black Company, about a Sellsword Company working for an evil overlord, is pretty good, and I've seen it described as "Imagine Lord of the Rings, but told from the perspective of an Easterling Captain", if you are into that. The setting is, for all intents and purposes, humans-only.

The Dwarves by Markus Heitz, which I'm currently on. It's your typical, traditional fantasy, where Dwarves are Dwarves, Elves are Elves, and Orcs are Orcs, with the protagonist being an orphaned Dwarf that was raised by a human wizard, so what you see is pretty much what you get.

If you are into Mechs and Power Armor, there is the Brigador Audiobook, which is ground-level Military Sci-Fi (think more along the lines of Battletech or Titanfall than anything high-concept or about complex politics) about a unit of soldiers of what is essentially a Latin American Dictatorship in Space, on the night the regime's leader dies and everything goes to hell. You don't really have to have played the game to understand it, but it helps if you know what a Touro or a Buckmaster are. It makes for a nice standalone, if you don't want to jump into a whole series.

Been bugging me for a while: what's that condiment with the green bits in it on an american hot dog? I think they are sweet-sour pickles, but turned into a sauce of some kind?

How do you even know about specific sauces on American hot dogs, but only by sight?

because occasionally I want to try american food and have to sift through various pictures of meals like hamburger, fried chicken, and the afromentioned "american" hot dog. It stuck with me because all others had normal-looking photos, what you'd expect when you hear the name. The hot dog stuck with me because it was that unusual for me to see a green sauce of some kind.

Liminal Sleep Paralysis Ear Worm. A mental parasite that feeds passively on your memories, dreams, and mental perceptions of music (but not the sound itself) and excretes mental sound mishmashes of the same, generally perceptible only when your brain is otherwise at the minimal activity level, like non-rem sleep. These "waste signals" occasionally interfere with neural communication signals, causing temporary paralysis.

Might want to get that checked. Those things can cause brainrot if left untreated.

Relish. It's almost like a jam made of pickles.
Specifically, the kind used in American grill culture is a sweet dill pickle relish. Relish is a broad kind of food or sauce made from pickled vegetables that are cut up but still discernible (that means that some variants of Fasskraut are technically relishes)

We usually just call them Daydream Worms because they're a lot more common and not nearly as problematic as Deep Dream Worms or Nightmare Worms. You don't need to search by the full scientific name.

Got any recipes for homemade?
With the caveat that I've never actually made any of these, here's a few different ones: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/244523/sweet-pickle-relish/

A cute woman who said she was a nurse offered to shave my balls.

Then I got gassed and woke up with my chest aching and bleeding from my crotch.
