Makes a lot of sense. I heard somewhere that the real thing hotels are renting isn't the bed, it's the locked door. After all, I can still sleep soundly - if uncomfortably - on the floor, but if a hotel room didn't have a door I sure as hell wouldn't stay there.
You are not kidding. That locked door is really what counts. Beds are great, showers are wonderful, but that locked door is where it's at.

Nope. All the expired fish and seafood went into the garbage can due to liability. I asked about donating the meat to a food bank but the meat dept. manager (great guy btw) told me it was against store policy due to liability. I did get some of the expired fish (with the seafood manager's permission, again great guy) for free as crawfish trap bait or deadbait for fishing.
Why would a hospital serve healthy food? They profit off of people being sick.

The excessive waste is basically all rooted in a combination of liability and executive impatience. The two most important policies of modern business being "prevent lawsuits" and make profit, with the former being more important until and unless a business gets big enough it can afford to litigate people into the ground themselves.
It's fucking disgusting to me that literally tons of food is being thrown away while I'm sitting here trying to decide if I want to have breakfast or dinner today.
Funny you mentioned it. There was a composting machine as part of some green initiative but after corporate found it cost more to run than just dumping things into the garbage they shut it off and it gathered dust in the back since then. Its probably still gathering dust in the back.
The root of this and the root of most problems we complain about in other threads regarding entertainment like movies, comics, and video games all stem from this business lawsuit. Shareholder above all became the precedent and it spread across the world like wildfire.
Those are big businesses. Small businesses can be and are ruined by even slight litigation.
Nah, I got a sample of one of those 'cook your own takeout' packages and the number of individually-wrapped ingredients was way more important to why I'll never buy one than the price tag. It's not just packaging either; we have enough baby clothes for every baby born for years getting thrown into landfills because people buy brand new clothes and toss them into landfills when the kids grow a little instead of just catch-and-releasing them from thrift stores until they fall apart. Toys too. And books.
