Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Yo. Been playing more starsector.
Thanks for the chappie. Have to admit, wasn't expecting the rise in piracy is merely the death throes of a criminal empire instead of something a bit more organized.

Also, just a heads up, 0.98.5a update (not yet release) is on the horizon and you can read the upcoming patch note early.

One Piece? More like Fraud Piece, amirite? Hahahaha, I'm a fucking comedy GENIUS!

"I've been working closely with intelligence from Governor Mur, given his connections. It's from him that I learned about the upheaval in the criminal underworld. The Zann Consortium has been destroyed."

What.
Huh. What combination of butterflies led to the Zann Consortium's downfall? Or is this the first downfall, in which Tyber Zann got sent to Kessel, before his later escape and reformation of the Consortium?

Hello reasonable mobile army. This isn't something you could siege a core world with, but for knocking over some frontier fortifications it isn't drastic overkill like sending a Star Destroyer. Arbiters are basically the answer for all the oversector mobile groups Hiral has been taking away.
The escorts would vary based on what we could get, but the basic idea was that each Arbiter would be escorted by 1 Lancer-Class frigate for its incredible anti-fighter firepower, given the Arbiter would be the biggest target for bombers. Two Arquitens or, if possible, Carracks for flanking and putting pressure on enemies. And some Gozantis if needed. It was a shifting doctrine, given we used what we could get, but it was a solid plan.
That's probably going to be enough for most pirate and later Rebel flotillas in Las' neighborhoods. Both tend to focus on the lighter classes and the heavier elements probably aren't coming this far out in the Rim. Even if anything heavier pops up, that's what the Star Destroyers are for.
I sighed, knowing she was right. The academies had speed out tens of thousands of barely trained sailors who were now being given positions they weren't entirely ready for. It was a mess.
At least Las is having this mess now rather than post-Endor. Sure some of these crews are still going to die, but the survivors can be transferred to further productions to stop it from happening again. Las' forces are basically in their "early Clone Wars" phase of crew development.

Aren Hiral. I'd gone to him with the Mard project because I feared rebellion from my people, and decided debt was the way to go. I then continued supporting him with the Mard, gaining his protection as Governor-General.

However, it seems as though my contributions aren't seen as being nearly as important as those of his new friends down in the Mid-Rim, and it shows.

Across the Oversector, there were mobile Oversector patrol fleets, meant to move about and give help when needed. These, alongside the wider Oversector Army and Navy apparatus, where the Governor-Generals direct purview.

And Hiral decided that the Mid-Rim and all its magnates and wealth was in the direst need of protection, dragging every spare ship and trooper to reinforce his new allies' sense of safety.
Seems like Hiral has decided to act like a Senator and abandon large parts of his constituents in favor of schmoozing and politics. That is not going to make him a lot of friends come Endor.

I can see many sectors in the oversector just stop adhering to Hiral's authority as soon as the Emperor croaks. Not like he is doing much for them at this point. Las could technically be doing more than Hiral is with his support from Mard.
"Intel suggests that yes, the Consortium was large, and its death only pushed a pirate heavy Outer Rim further down the spiral. Now, Consortium ships, especially bulk freighters and larger, are being used as mobile bases for pirate groups raiding the Oversector."
On one hand bulk freighters have plenty of room for guns and carrier space. On the other, bulk freighters are not exactly designed for fighting warships since most of them have anemic if any weaponry premodification. Which means all its firepower and defenses are going to be "pirate quality".

If a flotilla led by an Arbiter gets in weapons range, any pirate mobile bases are probably doomed if they can't jump out in time.
After getting back to my office, I reviewed more economic reports. Despite the piracy, the economic boom had stabilized. Things were getting back into a more predictable rhythm, but with more workers, more goods being moved, etc… Trade had reached such a volume that the pirates weren't actually creating massive problems on the normal trade lanes, but could still create problems for more fringe and frontier colonies still being developed, which was a real threat.
Ah yes, the "making so much money they can't steal it all" strategy.
Once the Arbiter was finished, they turned to the crowd.

"I have spent the last three months gathering data on Belladoon. My comrades do the same across the sector. Do not give us something to find."

And then they left. No grand speech, no executions or lockdown of the palace. The ballroom was simply left dead quiet.
You see Empire, that's how you intimidate the galactic upper classes into following your laws.

If these Auditors were hidden everywhere, were they hidden in her system? Had they found her own skeletons? She didn't know, but she knew one thing.

She refused to go to prison. If that meant having to follow the law more rigorously than she was used to, well, she'd find a way to cope.

So long as she didn't one day wake up to a silver helmet.
Honestly I can see the corruption and slavery and such, but the idea ANYONE in the empire outside the core would have the BALLS to try tax evasion makes them insane, you could get away with alot in such a government but to touch the taxes never.

Huh. What combination of butterflies led to the Zann Consortium's downfall? Or is this the first downfall, in which Tyber Zann got sent to Kessel, before his later escape and reformation of the Consortium?
The first, eow:foc happens after endor.
Other way around, Zanns prison break is JUST before Yavin and going through the wreckage of the Death Star is one of the early things you gotta do in that. Forces of Corruption does end After Endor though within the post Endor scramble as Zann makes a play for the Emperors flagship over Kuat using New Republic efforts to take Kuat as a distraction.

It came with 24 turbolasers, a mix of 8 heavy and 16 medium spread across the hull. Instead of the massive 80 tubes of missiles the Victory came with, the Arbiter was reduced down to 20 instead, filled to the brim with concussion missiles. And dotting the hull were some 25 PD turrets
its fighter complement. 96 total craft aboard each ship. Most of that was pure fighters, but a portion was dedicated to bombers and another to troop transport and scouting. Finally, each ship had 3 TIE Patrollers on board for longer range missions
the Arbiter fit a single line battalion meaning some 800 troops and light armor element
Ultimately, the Arbiter-Class was a heavy cruiser-carrier at heart.
Alright, so the final designs numbers are in and it sounds like it's basically a Venator 3, a Cruiser-Carrier like it's predecessors but with heavier emphasis on it being a heavy cruiser.
A lot more Turbo laser and missile launchers compared to the Venator, probably better armor and shielding too but carries around far less ground troops, star fighters and point defences turrets in exchange which is kind of an odd design choice with there being a major rise in piracy in the outer rim and the kamikaze bombing attempted on the shipyards these ships are being built in.

I guess these were designed to take out frigates and brawl with the Consortium's Keldabe battleships perhaps?

Are those Space Bradley's/LAV's? 🤣

Arbiter would be escorted by 1 Lancer-Class frigate
Hey, those are pretty good for escorting capital ships.
If I remember correctly the empire didn't really like the Lancer class a lot so they've thrown most, if not all, of them out into the outer rim to do solo patrols so Las's people going around grabbing as many of them as he can shouldn't be too difficult.

Now, most have switched either to out-of-sector shadowports or mobile bases as their raiding hubs."

Mobile bases?
Sounds like they're taking a page out of The Rebellion's Mobile Fleet doctrine.

I learned about the upheaval in the criminal underworld. The Zann Consortium has been destroyed."
The Consortium rose to power quickly, and with it brought immense amounts of assets. Now it seems the Consortiums corpse is ripe for the picking, and fragmented members are fighting for scraps. Others simply seek to find their own fortunes abroad, leading to our current problem."

You did not just kill off the DLC faction from Empire at War and use it to kick start One Piece in SPACE. 🤣

Did you hear they recently lost a contract to the Mindan Yards for hyperdrives to a new factory?
Did Las decided to start his own domestic production of hyperdrives after that Kuat representative tried to make more money by raise their prices on him during a piracy crisis?

Walking in through the door was a full squad of Stormtroopers. However, these didn't wear the regular armor, but the modified armor seen mostly among troops from Minda, or in the roving patrol fleets. The design was taking time to make its way across the sector.
That's an interesting look, is it a single piece helmet? It kinda looks closer to the what the Imperal infantry get than stormtrooper helmet.

How does it compare to standard storm trooper armor?

Looks like things are progressing.
Pirates are a problem, but they'll be dealt with soon.
After all, new ships and tech will go a long way.

Ah, the Mindan Auditors...
The bane of corruption and criminality.
May they fight for Order and Stability, true!

EDIT:
Slander!
The United Auroran Federation is surrounded by enemies!
After all, the Hegemony is the bane of existence and the root of all evil!
So long as Solvernia stands, so too the UAF stands!

I always wondered why in SW the ships were built for defense by infantry garrison and not "maze of hell-death automated gun turrets and vacuum".

Also, isn't the Lancer notoriously slow, which is why it was unpopular? Using the Lancer for anti-piracy work isn't a very good idea since it ties down your force to it (it cannot defend itself against heavier vessels and is too slow to keep up) and gives the pirates the advantage of choosing their fights. Using it for station defense and other large targets would be a better idea since their low tactical mobility wouldn't be as much of an issue and it could link up to the station's battlenet to benefit from multi-echelon AA defenses.

The UAF keeps going to war with everybody and its tanking my rep with the Hegemony! I just want to buy some Atlas's!
Doesn't Tri-Tachyon produce the Atlas-class? They were the ones iirc pushing for the "Load-and-Pray" shipping doctrine pre-Collapse that began to economically outcompete the Colossus-class freighter (which was well-liked for its relatively heavy armour and tad excessive weapon mounts at the time).

Typically, just S-modding storage on them works fine enough for me in my playthrough.

Speaking of which, what's your favourite UAF doctrine? Carrierspam, Battlecruiser spam, balanced,,,? My fave (I haven't played the new update yet lmao) was building a fleet centrepiece around the capital-sized AWACS ship and throwing in a mosquito swarm of destroyers and frigates around it, with perhaps escort package on them and an extra Battlecruiser to add more flexibility.

Pretty sure you can reliably find any Atlas-Class at any heavy industrial planet with a Heavy Industry/Orbital Work industry like Kazeron and Sindria. TT doctrine prefers using high-tech and phases ships, meaning Revenant-Class phase-ship tender, though they can use Atlases if necessary.

Is there any problem is Star Sector that can't be solved by mass deployement of semibreves ? 🤣
Anubis with triple Paladins shred through Minibreve, Semibreve and Taufan spam like butter (even before the Taufan nerf). I've also noticed that the Legion equipped with 4 Wasp LPC's (with railguns+rangefinder for kinetics, Annihilator pods for DPS and Hellbores for anti-armour) performs very well against them as well. If the Wasps don't shoot down the missiles, they can bodyblock them and detonate them early (though that does leave a gap in the defenses)

Revenant-class was a phase tender for the hunter-killer fleets of Phase ships sent to attack Hegemony convoys during the Second AI War (it was discovered in a databank orbiting a distant sun a hundred years after AIW1). The Atlas was, and still is, the optimal mass cargo transport system used by Tri-Tachyon. I just thought that Tri-Tachyon was the manufacturer of the Atlas, though that seems to be incorrect.

While it is a "lowtech" ship, it clearly doesn't belong to the family of Orion Shipyards designs. My best guess is that it still belongs to Tri-Tachyon. The only other manufacturer with a similar design style would be Mbaye-Gogol Autofab, but the Atlas still distinctively sports Tri-Tachyon cyan instead of Mbaye-Gogol Autofab's darker colours.

Excellent chapter good sir! Wonderful to see the auditor put the fear of the taxman into some stuff nobles.

As for starsector, can I recommend the UAF cargo ships like the Junyo? They're militarized and have plenty of OP points to put hull mods onto, along with significant speed and carry capacity. Outright better than the atlas in every way except cost iirc.
