Chapter 84: Mokuton (3) New
Naruto took a slow, measured sip of the bitter tea. His mind was already drifting toward the upcoming delegation, calculating how many variables he could control in sixty days, when Danzō's voice pulled him back to the present.

"Actually, I even forgot the primary reason I brought you here," Danzō said. His tone was uncharacteristically calm, lacking the sharp, commanding edge that usually defined their interactions.

Naruto lowered his cup, his eyes meeting the old man's single visible eye. Danzō signaled to a maid standing near the sliding door. "Go and find her," he ordered. "Tell her I am in the tea room."

Naruto watched the maid scurry away, a flicker of genuine intrigue crossing his mind. Who was 'her'? This was the Shimura ancestral manor, a place that should have been a fortress of secrets, yet Danzō was calling for someone as if this were a normal family visit.

As they waited, Naruto racked his brain, digging through every memory of the canon story he had brought from his previous life as Aiden.

'Danzō having a family?' he thought. 'The manga never mentioned a wife, children, or a lineage. He was always just the shadow in the corner of the village.'

But as he looked at the traditional, well-kept state of the manor, the logic began to click. Hiruzen Sarutobi had a son and even a grandson in Konohamaru. The noble clans of Konoha were built on bloodlines and inheritance. It made perfect sense that Danzō, a man obsessed with legacy and the Shimura name, would have had children. They simply hadn't been relevant to the original Naruto's journey.

The sliding Japanese door was pulled open with a soft, practiced motion.

A girl walked in, flanked by two older maids. She looked to be around seven or eight years old, dressed in a high-quality pink kimono embroidered with white cranes. Her hair was a striking, Snow White color, falling in soft waves around a face that was undeniably beautiful.

"Good morning, grandfather," the girl said.

Naruto's breath hitched: He watched Danzō's face. For the first time, the stone-cold commander of Root looked... human. There was a glimmer of genuine affection in his eye, a softening of the harsh lines around his mouth that Naruto hadn't thought possible.

'Ah,' Naruto thought, a dark, predatory smile forming in the recesses of his mind. 'So you do have a heart, old man. Did you just show me your weakness?'

"Good morning, Yuki," Danzō replied. He gestured to the mat. "Come and have tea with this old grandfather of yours... We have a guest."

The girl stepped into the room, but Naruto noticed something immediately. Her eyes were closed. She didn't stumble, and she didn't feel her way around the furniture, but she walked with a strange, tilted grace, as if she were listening to the air itself.

She stopped and turned her head toward Naruto. "And who is that next to you?" she asked. "I've never seen a life force that looks like a swirling grey storm before."

'Is she not blind?' Naruto wondered. Her eyes remained shut, yet she was "looking" right at him.

"Ah, this is your future fiancé," Danzō said, casually sipping his tea.

Naruto, who had just taken another swallow of the hot liquid, almost choked. He managed to keep his composure, but his pulse spiked.

"Grandfather!" Yuki huffed, her face turning pink to match her kimono. "I'm not even eight yet and you're already trying to marry me off to some stranger?"

"Hahahaha," Danzō laughed.

The sound sent a literal shiver down Naruto's spine. Hearing Danzō laugh was more terrifying than hearing him threaten someone's life. It was completely out of character.

"I'm not trying to marry you off," Danzō said, his eye glinting with a strange pride. "He will be the one marrying into the Shimura clan."

'Is that what you think?' Naruto thought, but he kept his expression perfectly neutral.

Danzō looked at Naruto. "This is Yuki Shimura, my one and only granddaughter. Introduce yourself."

It was a command, backed by the weight of a man who expected total obedience.

Naruto realized that if Danzō was willing to hand him his "Achilles' heel" on a silver platter, he would be a fool not to take it. He stood up, his new, taller frame making him look far more mature than a four-year-old should. He moved with the elegance he had spent weeks perfecting in the archives.

He knelt on one knee before Yuki, took her small hand in his, and gave it a light, formal kiss on the knuckles.

"Lady Yuki, I am Uzumaki Naruto," he said, his voice smooth and respectful. "It is a rare pleasure to meet someone whose presence is even more striking than this garden."

Yuki's face flushed a deep crimson. She was clearly a spoiled noble girl, used to attention, but Naruto's refined, "Aiden-influenced" charm was something she clearly wasn't prepared for.

"You're... very formal for a little kid," she muttered, though she didn't pull her hand away immediately.

"The two of you should go for a walk," Danzō remarked. "The fresh air will do you both good."

The Shimura garden was immense, filled with ancient pines and perfectly manicured stone paths. Naruto walked beside Yuki, keeping a steady pace.

"It's a change," Yuki said after a few minutes of silence. "Walking with someone who doesn't try to hold my hand every two seconds because they think I'm going to trip."

Naruto didn't reply immediately. He was focused on the sensation in his bones. Ever since the first hokage cells had merged with his DNA, he could feel the plants around him. It was like having extra limbs that reached deep into the soil.

They stopped in a section of the garden where the ground had been recently turned for new flowers. Naruto crouched down, looking at the tiny, unsprouted seeds buried in the dark earth.

He closed his eyes. He could feel the new elemental balance inside him. The water and earth natures, strengthened by the First Hokage's cells, were swirling together, catalyzed by his own silver soul energy. He reached out a finger, barely touching the surface of the soil.

He infused a microscopic drop of that energy into the earth.

Instantly, green shoots erupted from the dirt. In a heartbeat, they grew, unfurling into a cluster of vibrant, beautiful lilies that bloomed right before their eyes.

"H... how did you do that?" Yuki asked, her voice trembling with surprise.

Naruto stood up, a small, knowing smile on his face. "As expected, you can see much more clearly than those with normal eyes."

Yuki quickly put her hand over her mouth, looking as if she had just revealed a secret she was supposed to keep hidden.

Naruto watched her. He knew the backstory now. Yuki was the child of Danzō's eldest son, who had died in the war. She had been born blind, but she possessed a sensory ability that bypassed physical sight entirely. She perceived the life force and chakra of everything around her with a clarity that rivaled the Byakugan.

"How can you transfer energy to plants like that?" Yuki asked, trying to regain her spoiled, noble composure. "You didn't even use a jutsu. I didn't see any hand signs."

"Ah, so you can even tell when someone uses a jutsu," Naruto said. "How interesting."

"Stop ignoring my questions!" Yuki snapped. "How can a kid like you have such a huge, strange life force? Most people look like flickering candles. You look like a solid block of grey stone with a silver core."

"So you see life force as colors?" Naruto said, stepping closer. Despite Yuki being three years older, Naruto's recent growth spurt made him slightly taller than her. "Your face is turning red again. It seems your way of perceiving the world is even more developed than I assumed."

"You're weird," she huffed.

Naruto decided to test the limits of her vision. He activated his Silent Shell, a technique designed to mask his presence entirely. "Can you still see me now?"

Yuki's brow furrowed. "Your life energy just changed color. It's... darker now. Like you're trying to disappear, but I can still see you."

"I see. My technique still has room for improvement," Naruto murmured.

"You! Why do you keep ignoring me?" Yuki yelled, her frustration finally boiling over. "Do you want me to tell my grandfather that you're being mean? Everyone is scared of him!"

She had a smug look on her face, expecting Naruto to flinch. She had learned early on that fear manifested as a dark, murky smoke in people's energy. She saw it in the servants and the guards every day.

"Why not?" Naruto said, his tone completely flat.

"W-w-why aren't you scared?" she stammered.

"Oh, so you can even tell when people are scared?" Naruto said. "Now that is truly fascinating."

"ARRRGGH!" Yuki exploded. She lunged forward, her small fist infused with a surprising amount of chakra, and tried to punch him.

Naruto moved his head an inch to the left, the fist whistling past his ear. He stepped back, watching her with a clinical interest.

"You would make a great shinobi," Naruto said. He wasn't lying; her ability to see energy made her a natural predator.

Yuki froze. Her anger vanished instantly. "Y-y-you really mean that?"

Being a blind girl in a noble house, she had likely been told her whole life that she was a delicate flower to be protected. Hearing a genuine compliment about her potential as a warrior caught her completely off guard.

'How troublesome,' Naruto thought as he watched her blush again. 'She's a living lie detector. She can sense the truth in my energy.'

He looked back toward the tea room where Danzō was waiting. A cold, calculating thought settled in his chest.

'A blind sensor who can see through any mask, tucked away in the Shimura house,' Naruto thought. 'If I can tie her to me, I don't just get a fiancé. I get a way to monitor Danzō's every move from the inside. This was a better opportunity than I ever imagined.'

Chapter 84: Mokuton (4) New
Yuki stood frozen for a moment, her face still a bright shade of red. She shifted her weight, clearly trying to find the right words to regain her dignity.

"You're a very strange person, Naruto Uzumaki," she said finally. Her voice was quiet, stripped of its earlier arrogance. "Grandfather says everything has a purpose. I wonder what he thinks yours is."

Naruto adjusted the sleeves of his new black kimono. "His thoughts are his own. I'm just here to ensure the Shimura name remains as heavy as it is today."

Yuki turned toward him. Her eyes were still closed, but she seemed to be tracing the outline of his face with her senses. "I think you're lying. Not with your words, but with your heart. Your energy doesn't match your face."

"Most people in this village wear a face that doesn't belong to them," Naruto replied. Before she could respond, the sound of footsteps on the gravel path announced the arrival of the maids. It was time to leave.

He gave her a polite, distant nod. "It was an interesting afternoon, Lady Yuki. I suspect we will see each other again."

He followed the maids back toward the tea room, leaving her standing among the unnaturally vibrant flowers. He didn't look back. He had already gathered enough data on her. She was a valuable sensor, a living radar that could be groomed into a perfect internal spy. More importantly, she was the only person who made Danzō look vulnerable

The transition back to the Foundation headquarters was like being swallowed by a cold, stone throat. The sun and the scent of pine were replaced by the smell of damp concrete and recycled air. Naruto followed Danzō into the deeper levels, their footsteps echoing in the sterile hallways.

Once they were back in the private office, Danzō sat behind his desk. The doting grandfather was gone. The man in front of Naruto was once again the architect of Konoha's shadows.

"I have a mission for you," Danzō said, his voice flat. "It is an S-rank escort mission. A high-ranking official from the Land of Hot Water is traveling back to the Fire Country border. He is carrying sensitive documents regarding a cult uprising in the north that threatens our trade routes. It is a high-risk operation. There are rumors of mercenaries already on his trail."

Naruto waited, his expression calm.

"I was only going to send a full squad of six operatives to ensure the asset's safety," Danzō continued. "However, the Third Hokage has finally agreed to a condition I set for another prodigy. Itachi Uchiha is to take the next Chūnin exam alone...Hiruzen is hesitant; he believes Itachi is too young, that the boy is being rushed into the meat grinder. He is wasting a talent that could be used to secure our future. This mission is the final test. If Itachi succeeds, the Hokage will no longer block his promotion."

Naruto's mind went to his canon memories. Itachi had indeed passed the exam alone, a feat that had solidified his status as a legend. But here, Danzō was weaving Naruto into the narrative earlier than expected.

"I want you to join this mission," Danzō said. "I want you to be there to witness the Uchiha's capabilities, but more importantly, I want leverage. If my personal student completes an S rank mission alongside the Uchiha's crown jewel, Hiruzen will find it impossible to limit your own progress later on. I will not have my successor held back by the Hokage's sentimentality."

Naruto looked at the map on the desk. "I have a request, Master. I do not want a full party. It will only slow us down and increase our visibility. If this is a test of genius, then let it be one. I will go with only one other operative from Root."

Danzō's eye narrowed. "Only one? The mission profile calls for at least eight shinobi to guarantee success against the mercenaries we expect."

"Kinoe," Naruto said. "He is the most capable for this terrain. His style is perfect for containment and stealth. With Itachi Uchiha and the two of us, we will have more than enough power. A larger group is just more targets."

Danzō stayed silent for a long time. In his mind, he was weighing the risk. Naruto and Itachi were the two greatest geniuses Konoha had ever produced. Putting them both on a high risk mission with only one protector was a gamble that could cost him everything. But the reward was immense. If these three could handle a task meant for a dozen men, it would prove that the new generation of Root was superior to anything the regular shinobi forces could offer. It would be the ultimate slap in the face to Hiruzen's philosophy.

"Very well," Danzō said. "I will handle the Hokage. He will likely object, but I will frame it as a necessary challenge for Itachi's solo promotion. You have seventy-two hours to prepare. You are dismissed."

"I would like permission to spend those seventy-two hours training with Kinoe in the forest outside the base," Naruto added. "I need to ensure our teamwork is seamless before we meet the Uchiha. My new physical growth has changed my center of gravity, and I need to recalibrate."

Danzō waved a hand. "Go. Do not waste the time."

-

Naruto left the office and moved quickly through the tunnels until he reached the lower barracks. He found Kinoe in his usual spot, though the boy was already standing before Naruto even reached the door.

When Kinoe saw him, he froze. His eyes traveled from Naruto's taller, leaner frame up to the long, braided hair. But it wasn't the physical change that shocked him. It was the energy. Through the silver link that bound them, Kinoe could feel a resonance he had never felt from another human being. It was the same earthy, powerful vibration that existed within his own cells, but it was purer, more ancient.

Kinoe opened his mouth to speak, his face pale. Naruto immediately put a finger to his lips, signaling for silence. He didn't want any curious ears in the barracks hearing what Kinoe was about to ask.

"Pack your gear," Naruto said quietly. "We have a mission. And we have three days to prepare."

***

An hour later, they were deep in the dense forest that bordered the village hidden in the leaves. The air was fresh, smelling of pine and damp earth. Naruto stopped in a clearing where the trees were so thick they blocked out most of the afternoon sun. He turned to face Kinoe, who was still staring at him with a mix of awe and confusion.

"You feel it, don't you?" Naruto asked.

Kinoe nodded slowly. "It's like... I'm standing next to the forest itself. How is this possible? Those cells, that power... it was meant to be a curse. For me, it was a graft. But in you, it feels like it always belonged there."

Naruto didn't answer immediately. He then said with a calm voice. "There will be time for explanations later. Right now, I need to know everything you were taught."

Naruto looked at Kinoe, his blue eyes sharp and demanding in the forest light. "The scroll Danzō gave you when you were first assigned to the Wood Style project. The one containing the original notes on the First Hokage's techniques. I want to know exactly what it says."

Kinoe hesitated, his loyalty to the Foundation flickering against the overwhelming pull of the silver link. He looked at Naruto, and for a moment, he didn't see a four year old boy. He saw something that felt older than the village itself.

"The scroll of the First," Kinoe whispered. "You want to learn the secret techniques?"

"Yes," Naruto said. The single word hung in the quiet air of the forest.

Kinoe reached into his tactical vest. His fingers brushed against the thick parchment of a sealed scroll. The rough texture immediately brought a buried memory to the surface of his mind.

He remembered the sterile, white lights of the Foundation laboratory flickering overhead. A much younger Kinoe had stood shivering in a thin hospital gown. Danzō stood in front of him, holding out this exact heavy, green-bound scroll.

"Sixty children died in those tanks," Danzō had said, his single visible eye cold and demanding. "You lived. You carry the blood of the First Hokage in your veins. This scroll contains his legacy. Learn it. Become the weapon Konoha requires."

Kinoe had taken the scroll with trembling hands that day. It had felt heavier than a boulder.

Pulling himself back to the present, Kinoe pulled the scroll free and handed it to the boy standing in front of him. Naruto took it and unrolled the heavy parchment across his lap. His blue eyes immediately began scanning the complex ink. The document was a masterpiece of shinobi theory. It contained detailed diagrams of chakra pathways, precise hand seal sequences, and the fundamental theories behind fusing earth and water to create life.

"I have only mastered a fraction of what is written there," Kinoe admitted. "The chakra demands for these techniques are extreme."

"Show me," Naruto ordered. He kept the scroll resting on his knees. "Execute every technique you know. Do not hold back."

Kinoe nodded. He stepped back into the center of the clearing and took a deep breath. He focused on his chakra coils, gathering his energy. He brought his hands together, his fingers forming the Snake, Rat, and Dog seals in rapid succession.

"Wood Release: Great Forest Technique!" Kinoe shouted.

He thrust his right arm forward. The flesh of his forearm shifted and expanded, erupting into a barrage of thick, sharpened wooden stakes. He aimed at a massive oak tree twenty yards away.

The result shocked him instantly. The wood burst from his arm with a violent, explosive force he had never experienced before. His wooden constructs were usually a dull, pale brown. Today, the wood was darker, tinted with a faint, metallic silver sheen. The stakes crossed the clearing in a fraction of a second and slammed into the oak tree. The massive trunk exploded into splinters on impact. The stakes kept going, tearing completely through three more trees before finally stopping.

Kinoe stumbled backward. He looked at his own hand in absolute shock. The destructive power of the jutsu was at least twice his normal output.

He turned to look at Naruto. "What was that?" Kinoe asked, his voice breathless. "My jutsu power just doubled. This strange silver chakra inside me is reacting to the wood. What exactly did you give me?"

Naruto watched him with calm, unblinking eyes. He did not fully understand the upper limits of his own Soul Energy yet. He certainly had no intention of explaining his theories to a subordinate.

"Focus on the training," Naruto said simply. "Continue."

Kinoe swallowed hard. He felt the silver link humming in his chest, silently compelling him to obey the order. He formed another set of hand seals.

"Wood Release: Wood Locking Wall!"

Thick wooden pillars erupted from the dirt. They curved inward, locking together to form a solid, ribbed dome around him. The structure was incredibly dense, the wood humming with that same silver vitality. Kinoe dropped the defensive dome and immediately moved to the next technique. He created three Wood Clones. He followed that by forming the Four-Pillar Prison, erecting a massive wooden cage straight out of the forest floor.

Naruto watched every movement intently. Inside his mind, the System's Observation Deck was fully active. The transparent blue interface recorded Kinoe's hand movements, measuring his chakra output and his elemental fusion ratio. Naruto looked down at the open scroll on his lap. He cross-referenced the original instructions with Kinoe's practical application. He analyzed the data stream, isolating the exact inefficiencies in Kinoe's chakra molding.

By the time Kinoe finished his display, he was completely exhausted. The silver chakra amplified his power significantly. However, the physical toll of channeling that much concentrated energy left his body drained. He collapsed onto one knee, panting heavily. Sweat dripped from his chin onto the grass below.

Naruto closed the scroll.

"Impressive," Naruto said. He stood up and walked toward the center of the clearing. "You have a solid foundation. However, your execution of the Great Forest Technique is highly wasteful."

Kinoe looked up, wiping sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. "Wasteful?"

"You are converting your earth and water chakra as they leave your arm," Naruto explained. He stopped a few feet away. "That timing causes a bottleneck in your chakra network. You need to blend the two elements completely at your core before pushing them outward. Watch carefully."

Naruto did not widen his stance. He brought his small hands together. His fingers blurred as he formed the Snake, Rat, and Dog seals. He did not shout the name of the technique.

He simply extended his right arm.

A massive, solid pillar of dark, ancient wood erupted from his sleeve. It formed a dense, unified battering ram of pure kinetic force. The wood tore through the forest, obliterating everything in its path for fifty straight yards. It carved a deep, jagged trench into the earth. It finally slammed into a solid rock face at the edge of the clearing, shattering the stone completely. The air vibrated with the sheer pressure of the impact.

Naruto lowered his arm. The massive wooden construct detached smoothly from his skin and crashed to the ground. He hadn't broken a single drop of sweat. His chakra reserves barely registered the cost of the jutsu.

Kinoe stared at the long trail of absolute destruction. His mouth was completely dry. He slowly turned his head to look at the four-year-old boy standing casually beside him. The boy's golden hair blew gently in the wind settling over the ruined trees.

A deep, primal fear took root in Kinoe's chest. He found himself staring at the child, seriously wondering if the creature wearing Naruto Uzumaki's face was truly a human being at all.

Chapter 85: Preparation New
Naruto did not pause after shattering the solid rock face at the edge of the clearing. He brought his hands together again, his small fingers forming the snake seal, followed quickly by the ram seal.

"Watch the ground," Naruto instructed.

He channeled his chakra downward. A massive wooden dome erupted from the soil, curving inward to form the Wood Locking Wall. It was twice the thickness of the structure Kinoe had created minutes earlier. The surface of the wood was perfectly smooth, reinforced with a density that resembled iron rather than timber. The wood hummed with a quiet, heavy vitality.

Naruto let the dome sink back into the earth, the heavy logs dissolving seamlessly into the dirt. He immediately shifted his stance and flowed into the sequence for the Wood Clones. Three perfect copies of himself sprouted from the trunk of a nearby oak tree. They detached from the bark smoothly. They lacked the rigid, puppet-like joint movements that Kinoe's clones always displayed.

"The flaw in your clones stems from your focus on the water element," Naruto said. He walked around one of his own copies, tapping its solid wooden shoulder with his knuckles. "You use water to give them flexibility, watering down the structure. You must use the earth element to build the bones and joints, using water strictly to simulate the chakra network inside. The wood must be alive and self-sustaining from the moment it detaches."

He dispelled the clones with a simple thought. He then raised both of his hands upward. Four massive pillars of dark, ancient wood shot out of the ground, forming the Four-Pillar Prison technique. The thick wooden bars locked together at the top with a loud, resounding crack that echoed through the trees.

"This particular jutsu requires territorial control," Naruto explained. He stepped up to the massive wooden bars, running a hand over the rough bark. "You try to push your own chakra into the ground to build the cage from scratch. That approach is entirely inefficient. You need to pull the natural earth upward, using your water chakra as the binding agent to shape it. Let the environment do the heavy lifting for you."

He cut the chakra flow to the technique. The prison crumbled instantly, collapsing into a pile of lifeless, ordinary logs on the forest floor.

Naruto turned around to face the Root operative. The air in the clearing was heavy with the smell of freshly cut timber, sap, and overturned soil.

"Do you have a question?" Naruto asked.

Kinoe remained completely frozen on the ground. His breathing was shallow and uneven. He stared at the ruined landscape around them, then looked back at the small boy standing perfectly relaxed in the center of the destruction. His mind struggled violently to process the sequence of events he had just witnessed.

He had spent four years in the Anbu and Root factions under Danzo's direct orders. He had bled, fractured his own chakra coils, and nearly died multiple times in the underground laboratories just to master the Great Forest Technique. He had spent six grueling months learning to balance the earth and water natures well enough to form a simple wooden defensive dome.

Naruto had just replicated his entire, hard-earned arsenal in less than five minutes. The boy had read a scroll, observed the hand signs exactly once, and executed the techniques with a level of terrifying mastery Kinoe had never encountered before.

"How is that possible?" Kinoe whispered. His voice was hoarse, stripping away all of his usual emotional suppression. "Those techniques took me months, some even years, to master. You just looked at the scroll."

Naruto sighed quietly. He walked over to where the heavy green scroll rested on the grass and picked it up, brushing a stray leaf off the thick parchment.

"Instead of being stunned with only this much, ask a useful question," Naruto said. His tone was perfectly flat, devoid of any arrogance or mocking. It was a simple, pragmatic statement of fact. "We have limited time before this mission begins. Staring at me in disbelief will not improve your survival chances in the Land of Hot Water. Tell me what techniques you are still struggling to learn from this scroll. I will help you with them."

Kinoe blinked several times, the shock slowly receding from his eyes. He slowly pushed himself up from the ground, his knees trembling slightly from the severe chakra exhaustion. He looked at the four-year-old boy, fully realizing that the hierarchy between them had completely dissolved. Danzo might be the commander of Root, but Naruto was the undisputed master of this clearing.

"There are several jutsus I could never balance properly," Kinoe admitted, stepping closer to Naruto. He pointed a dirt-stained finger at a specific section of the open scroll. "The Wood Dragon Technique. And the Hotei Technique... the giant wooden hands. The chakra drain always snapped my control before the constructs could fully form."

Naruto looked down at the scroll. He scanned the dense rows of text and the complex diagrams illustrating the flow of energy required to sustain massive, autonomous wooden constructs. His eyes flickered over the theoretical framework written by the First Hokage. These jutsu were originally designed to overwhelm tailed beasts. The foundational structure required an immense initial burst of vitality and a perfect elemental ratio.

"The Wood Dragon," Naruto muttered, analyzing the seal sequence. "Your chakra capacity is sufficient. The failure stems from your lack of a continuous feedback loop. When you create the dragon, you treat it like a fireball or an earth wall. You push chakra out and leave it out."

Naruto crouched down. He picked up a small, dry twig from the dirt. He infused it with a microscopic amount of his silver-tinted chakra. The dead twig immediately sprouted a small, vibrant green leaf.

"The Wood Dragon is a parasite," Naruto explained, looking up to meet Kinoe's eyes. "It is designed to absorb chakra from whatever it binds. If you fail to establish a reciprocal link between your core and the dragon, the jutsu will drain you dry trying to stay alive. You have to let the dragon feed you back the energy it takes from the environment."

Kinoe frowned deeply. He crouched down beside the boy, staring intently at the green leaf. "A feedback loop? How do I establish that connection?"

Naruto stood up and pointed at a large, empty clearing to their left.

"You will spend the next forty-eight hours figuring that out," Naruto said. "Go over there. Start by forming the head of the dragon alone. Avoid forming the body entirely. Focus strictly on the connection between your chest and the construct. I will watch your chakra network and correct your flow."

The next two days became a grueling, relentless gauntlet of trial and error. The forest echoed constantly with the sound of splintering wood, crashing trees, and Kinoe's exhausted gasping.

The entire first day was dedicated to theory and small-scale application. Kinoe sat cross-legged in the dirt, sweat pouring down his face, his hands locked in the snake seal. He focused entirely on a thick wooden stump he had pulled from the ground. He attempted to mimic Naruto's explanation, trying to build a continuous loop of energy between his core and the dead wood.

Every single time the connection frayed, Naruto was there. The young boy stood perfectly still nearby, his blue eyes sharp, observing the invisible flow of energy.

"Your earth chakra is lagging," Naruto called out, his voice cutting through the quiet forest. "Increase the density on the left side of your pathway. The structure is crumbling before it can anchor."

Or he would correct the hand seals themselves.

"You hold the rat seal too long," Naruto instructed several hours later. "The transition to the dog seal must be absolutely instantaneous. You give the water chakra time to pool in your wrists. That causes your constructs to become brittle."

Kinoe pushed his body and mind to the absolute limit. The strange silver chakra Naruto had imparted to him the day before continued to burn hot in his veins. It provided him with an unnatural stamina. It accelerated his physical healing and allowed him to mold his energy far faster than he ever had in his entire life. He realized Naruto was doing more than just teaching him. The boy had physically altered his capacity to learn and endure.

By the morning of the second day, a major breakthrough occurred.

Kinoe stood in the center of a ruined patch of trees, his chest heaving. He slammed his hands together, forming the necessary sequence perfectly. He roared as he pushed his chakra outward, perfectly balancing the earth and water natures at his core, exactly as Naruto had instructed him a hundred times before.

The ground exploded violently. A massive, serpentine head made of dark, gnarled wood erupted from the soil. It did not crumble. It did not drain Kinoe into sudden unconsciousness. The Wood Dragon lunged forward, locking its heavy wooden jaws around a massive boulder, crushing the solid stone into dust.

Kinoe felt a sudden, sharp surge of energy rush back up the invisible tether connecting him to the construct. The feedback loop was stable.

He dropped to his knees, panting heavily. A wide, disbelieving smile broke across his sweat-streaked face. He had done it. He had finally cracked the technique that had eluded him for his entire Root/Anbu career.

He looked over his shoulder. Naruto was sitting casually on a fallen log thirty feet away, calmly reading another section of the green scroll.

"Your execution remains sloppy," Naruto noted, never looking up from the parchment. "The jaw strength was inconsistent on impact. The foundation, however, is solid. You have the loop."

"Thank you Lord Zero" Kinoe whispered. The two words carried a weight of genuine gratitude that went far beyond their usual mandated dynamic.

"Do not thank me," Naruto replied, closing the scroll and setting it aside. "Your incompetence on this upcoming mission would be a severe liability. I am merely ensuring you survive long enough to serve your new purpose."

They moved immediately to the Hotei Technique. Naruto broke down the mechanics of summoning the giant wooden hands, explaining how to route the chakra through the ground like massive tree roots before forcing them to breach the surface. With the feedback loop already established from the dragon training, Kinoe grasped the concept much faster. By the late afternoon, he could summon two massive wooden hands capable of pinning down a target the size of a small house.

The sun began to set on the second day, casting long, deep shadows across the torn forest floor. They had less than twenty-four hours before they had to report back to Danzo and meet Itachi Uchiha for the high-risk escort mission.

Kinoe sat against a tree trunk, drinking water from a metal canteen. His muscles ached terribly, and his chakra reserves were sitting dangerously low, but his eyes were bright with a new, profound confidence. He had mastered two S-rank techniques under Naruto's ruthless, precise instruction.

Naruto walked over to him, carrying the green scroll under his arm.

"You need to consolidate your progress immediately," Naruto said, stopping a few feet away. "Understanding the theory and executing it once in a controlled environment is entirely different from using it in a live combat scenario. Your body requires muscle memory."

Kinoe nodded slowly. He screwed the cap back onto his canteen and wiped his mouth. "What do you want me to do?"

Naruto raised his hand and pointed toward the dense, unbroken tree line on the far eastern side of the clearing.

"Go to the eastern sector of this forest," Naruto ordered. "Spend the rest of the night there. I want you to summon the Wood Dragon fifty times consecutively. Do not return here until you can execute the jutsu without breaking a single drop of sweat, or until the sun comes up. Whichever happens first."

Kinoe looked at the dark, imposing trees in the distance. Fifty times would push him right back to the absolute edge of his newly expanded limits. He stood up, stretching his sore arms and rolling his shoulders. He gave Naruto a sharp, highly respectful nod. He turned and sprinted into the eastern woods, eager to solidify his newly acquired power.

Naruto watched the Root operative disappear into the deep shadows. The sound of Kinoe's rapid footsteps faded quickly, leaving the western clearing completely silent except for the gentle rustle of the evening wind through the remaining leaves.

Naruto stood entirely alone in the center of the ruined landscape. He slowly looked down at his own hands. He flexed his small fingers, feeling the immense, humming pressure of the First Hokage's cells fully integrated with his own silver soul energy. He had spent the last forty-eight hours analyzing Kinoe's flaws, breaking down the intricate mechanics of the Mokuton, and perfecting his own theoretical understanding of elemental fusion.

He had the wood release completely under his control now. The foundation was built to perfection. He no longer needed to focus his attention on the basics of earth and water.

Naruto turned his head, looking deep into a patch of the forest completely untouched by their training. His blue eyes sharpened with a cold, highly calculated focus. The upcoming mission alongside Itachi Uchiha was going to be a severe test of his physical and tactical capabilities. He needed something far more destructive, something purely offensive to properly complement his new territorial control.

He raised his right hand, his palm facing the darkening sky. He closed his eyes and began to mold pure, unshaped chakra into the center of his palm. The air around him immediately began to distort, humming with the sound of violent, erratic rotation.

"It is time to improve the Rasengan," Naruto said quietly to the empty forest.
