• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Are you banned from IRC? Or Experiencing issues there? If so, please post in this thread.

There have been people who've gotten messages about being banned from IRC:

Your reported hostname [xxxxx] is banned: Spam is not allowed on freenode.

If you have experienced this, please try and use a IRC chat client such as Mirc or Pidgin.

Also, e-mail kline@freenode.net for help with freenode aka the web IRC thing.

Having issues, Irc on Firefox isn't loading in at all. Isn't connecting to the website.

The webclient is, unfortunately, completely beyond our control. It's made and maintained by Freenode themselves. You should be looking on freenode.org

I am using the Google chrome, and IRC's been down since, I dunno, around 4~5 hours ago. Can someone please find out wtf is going on before I snap and roasts someone for supper?

The server is up fine, it's just the webclient that is down.

actually i was unable to get mIRC to connect roughly 14 hours ago. may have been a problem with freenode servers.

Has anyone else been getting the error "Cannot connect to remote server"? It's been happening to me very frequently the past week.

clear cache/cookies? ie you might wanna look at your network stuff.... or get an IRC client ^^

Okay, any reason why, when trying to join channel, say it's on invite only and that I cannot join?

There was netsplit problems yesterday. They're still there I guess? 'cause I can't connect to QQ's IRC.

I would appreciate it if alethiophile could register qqbot. You can't get pm replies from it anymore after the anti-spam measure got implemented. I miss being able to pm it for rolls and choices.

But QQbot gets voiced and the anti-spam measures are offline?!?!
"Due to the persistent ongoing spam, all new connections are being set +R (block messages from unidentified users) and will be scanned for vulnerabilities. This will not harm your computer, and vulnerable hosts will be notified."

Free node says otherwise.

And odd, QQbot didn't reply properly the other night...

Working now though, the hell?!

QQbot has been working all this time... granted, sometimes it goes down... but that's not IRC and is more the bot's connection? ^_^;;;

I remember a large stretch of time where it couldn't reply to pm's Bii. Worked fine in QQ channel, but private replies were broke.

Is all of freenode down? I've just tried like three different web-based IRC programs and none connect >_>.

Going to necro this thread, as I've only stumbled upon a news article that affected/hit freenode. Of which QQ's current IRC channel is based on;

From a Roguelike discord channel I lurk; https://hackaday.com/2021/05/20/freenode-debacle-prompts-staff-exodus-new-network/

First DuckDuckGo impressions, search wise; https://www.theregister.com/2021/05/19/freenode_staff_resigns/

Suffice to say; in brief bullet point/s;
  • There's been a noted, hostile takeover on freenode, which at key notes is done by the founder of a VPN Firm "Private Internet Access". Which became apparent, after democratically elected heads being removed by force
    • In detail, this had been in the complex making, from over several years. And it's only now, hit in management.
  • Suffice to say. This led to most of the veterans volunteer staff resigning en masse, in protest.
    • In protest; they've made a new IRC branch/spinoff, called "Libera.Chat". Which might be important?!
In (abridged) counter point (to be "nameless respect".) The founder of the VPN Firm "Private Internet Access" (PIA), views the events as unfortunate. And bar having thrown/cited some disputes over the facts, is "undaunted" on the future prospects of Freenode.

Some other key things to note. From the "The Register" article;
The former Freenode staffer said that while the network managed to thrive over the years as other IRC communities lost users, it's no longer growing because recently chat services like Slack and Discord have hurt Freenode participation.

The Register understands that Libera Chat has had about 150 requests from projects to establish IRC channels on the network. These won't necessarily end the presence of these channels on Freenode — projects may be hedging their bets about Freenode's long-term survival.

Having said that, the Ubuntu IRC Council has voted to migrate away from Freenode.
TLDR: It's now owned, by someone else (would cite names, but it may veer too much towards Rule 8?) That in a medium/long term, may go through a different shift/pattern, for better or worse. So in light of the spirit of Open Source, IRC Channels/etc? I'd at least compel/request as we're still using IRC for the Questionable Questing channel, to assess and if need be; migrate to a different IRC Channel.

Well, since it seems they banned IRCCloud wholesale for seemingly no reason, is it time to fuck off to libera.chat, or whatever it was called?

Wat?

But... hmmm....

You're still logged in?

If there is a ban... why not try Pidgin?

It's a IRC and other chat system program.

According to rasengan, in his current incarnation as root, the irccloud thing wasn't accidental:
< root> what accidental irccloud blanket ban? < root> I keep hearing about this? < mst> I think all of irccloud got k-lined briefly - shit happens < root> It's intentional for sure. < root> I think someone accidentally removed it. < mst> is there a public statement about that anywhere? (and then nobody ever responded as to why, so I'm afraid that's all I know wrt that particular situation)
14:59 <@taw> IRCCloud was not klined by mistake. 14:59 <@taw> We don't allow IRCCloud on freenode. 14:59 <@taw> We offer our own free BNC, if you'd like to use that instead.
Also
<@root> irc cloud is banned cuz fck irc cloud <@root> this was not an accident <@root> not a mistake <@root> actually it was supposed to happen a logn time ago
IRCcloud is banned completely in order to push their own new Freenode "product".

Yeah, banned from Freenode too. I was already wary. Had to change applications once, not excited to do it again. Would rather stick with IrcCloud, and if they're doing it IRCCloud, there's no reason they won't do it to others.

EDIT: Switching to the Libera.Chat QQ Channel, personally.
