Yeah, there was some real Ending Fatigue that seemed to start pretty much right after that arc ended. The Weapons Division of YAMI and YOMI all got introduced all at once with no real build-up or display of their skills, most of them didn't even have names, and suddenly even though it had always treated Shigure and Freya with respect all the new weapon-users were treated like a bunch of cowards and weaklings who needed tools to compete and basically just get brushed aside after a few totally unsatisfying fights in favor of the unarmed fighters being front and center of all the important events again. And then there was the ending itself...

Probably the only good thing to come out of the Weapons Division as it was written in canon is that it finally introduced someone who the Elder couldn't just bitchslap out of the way with an errant thought if he felt like it, finally answering the question of why he wasn't just crushing YAMI all by himself overnight with how bullsh*t OP he was always portrayed as. And the guy who did it was even a Musashi expy!

It's just too bad he existed as nothing but a plot device so the Elder couldn't do exactly what I mentioned above and just flatten YAMI by himself in the final battle.

I suppose it might be giving away a bit, but this is actually going to be the biggest, most major change to canon that makes this Jump more than just "a retread but also Ensei is there." Once YOMI starts showing up, the weapon users will be getting their due. They'll be appearing at the same time and be just as much a threat, if not a little more, than the barehanded fighters. Which also gives the chance for Ensei to have fights of his own without just treading all over Ken'ichi's.
