True, but even then he at least pretended to care about her opinion till it went against his interest.

Meanwhile Danny had managed to take her from BB all the way to Boston without listening to a single word she said. I mean she had to threaten* that depressed muppet, or he would've signed her up at ENE.
Well that just makes things even worse, because there is not noticing your child's bullying issue and then there is sending them back to their abusers on a silver platter. No wonder Taylor refuses to speak with him he actively tried to enable his own daughter's abuse and didn't even have the will to demand that those two be punished for trying to kill her.

Mentioning joining a gang (or saying something that could have him thinking that she might) was probably the wrong move, diplomatically speaking. Understandable, but it likely contributed further to her father's poor decision-making.

Considering Danny's attempt to get Taylor signed up in the ENE department despite the fact that her abusers where there what are the odds that Emma tries to reach out to Taylor through him not realizing that he is just as blocked as she is. Or someone else from the ENE department *cough* Piggot *cough* contacting Danny to get back at Taylor for her disruptions to the department.

And what would she do? Destabilize the docks more than they already are by getting the union disbanded or something? Not only it wouldn't work as a punishment because Taylor doesn't give a fuck, it would just make her even madder at Piggy. Not because she cares about Danny, but because it would only reinforce Taylor's view of her.
This is in fact not true at all. Cauldron thinks naturally triggered capes are untrostworthy and worthless against Scion. Their hope is to find some golden solution somewhere in Eden's corpse, like a better (or even just a second) Eidolon.
This is true, that being said....they also want more bodies to throw at Scion, soooooooo......

I was under the impression both of them were unaware her abusers were Wards, till they unmasked to Taylor in the Wards' Lounge. Taylor wanted nothing to do with the Wards, PRT, or Protectorate, but Piggot played up the fear card and "new solo parahumans only last six months" canard. Then offered Boston as a nearby alternative.

Piggot would never do that, not because of any concerns for Danny's welfare or remorse for Taylor's situation but because she is already on the very edge of what she can do to bury this scandal and Danny filling a complain or him getting a breakdown harsh enough to be declared mentally unfit and therefore giving more of an opening for Taylor to successfully request an Ad Litem guardian will collapse the very unstable legal house of cards she has been balancing between Phase and her own Wards unit.

And even discounting any legal consequences the YG is looking in her general direction for further infractions, considering the fact that the ENE Wards are already grounded for weeks she won't expose her regional command to new disruptions for something as mundane as petty revenge.

From the way the text is written makes me think that even after finding out about those two he still somewhat pushed for Taylor to stay in Brockton and work a compromise out there.
Dad initially wanted me to become a Ward in Brockton Bay, but I told him flat-out that I would rather take my chances with the gangs than spend another minute in the presence of those two sociopaths.
It seems that they had the conversation after Taylor ran out of the Wards room in Brockton.

As for the fear angle just how worse do you think it will be for Danny if he ever finds out that despite signing Taylor up for the Wards she is still running around as a vigilante. He may be depressed but canonically he is stated to have a temper, and finding out that the people he trusted to keep his daughter safe are doing the exact thing they warned him would happen if he didn't sign her up can very easily set it off.

True but she does need to do something because the longer the investigation goes on the more likely it is to come crashing down and she probably knows it at this point. Currently her options are rather limited since Phase is in a different department and Armstrong is only putting forward a token effort to help, so her only possible connection to Phase is through her father so she might not go for petty revenge but she might try to get Danny on her side to influence his daughter because she already convinced him to send her to Boston after all.

By this point she probable learned that Taylor triggered in Boston an abuse investigation against him in order to keep him away. If the child abuse protocols are similar to RL the moment she made her allegations Boston PRT was forced by law to open a proper investigation within 48hrs of they made aware of it. Despite all the flak he receives in the thread Amstrong is a competent and law abiding LEO so he probably send the required documentation to the BB office to investigate since CPS can't be called due to the problem of the secret identity.

That gives Piggot one hell of a carrot and stick, but also makes her aware that A) Danny's influence on Taylor is in negative numbers and B) his legal rights in regard to Taylor are likewise minimal until the allegations are disproved.

Sure, except for the fact that as soon as Danny signed his daughters Ward contract that made her a ward of the state she was legally not his daughter anymore. Effectively, Taylor is an orphan, and that was before she launched an abuse allegation against him. There is no gap in which director Piggot can place Danny to create leverage of any kind on Taylor. No carrot, no stick, nothing.

The Ward contract more than likely was a modified guardianship In Loco Parentis for educational and living purposes, to authorize medical procedures in emergency situations, the management of parahuman training and law enforcement deployment, as well as other purposes related to her welfare, one characteristic of those guardianships is that the authority of the Protectorate ends as soon as the parent wishes. In practice is probably not different from sending a kid to a summer camp outside the law enforcement specific details so without the child abuse allegations he could have a ton of influence over her.

Honestly all Piggot really has to do is promise Danny visitation rights to Taylor and she has him on her side when it comes to bringing Taylor to heel. Of course that agreement ends when Taylor decides to fuck off if they try and send her back to Brockton which again is a win for Piggot either way.

Nope. Directly from the Legalese interlude:
"To answer your question," Jim said, far too pleased by this turn of events, "when you signed Taylor up for the Wards here in Massachusetts, you also relinquished your guardianship of her and made her a ward of the state."

"I… what?" Danny asked, and Kamil couldn't help but feel bad about the sudden pain and confusion in his voice. He had given those forms to Danny, specifically. But Taylor's well-being came first, no matter how upsetting it was to her father.

"You signed the forms, didn't you?" Jim asked. "You wanted Taylor to live here on base and be afforded the maximum protection of the PRT, and that meant making them her legal guardians."

"Right, right, I remember now," Danny said weakly. "But you said everything would be the same, like boarding school. That Taylor could come home on the weekends."

"And normally everything would be the same," Gauss interjected. "You wouldn't even have noticed the difference, except on your tax forms. We still call you immediately in an emergency, she can go home as often as is feasible, she'll be home for holidays, and so on. The Protectorate is good at a lot of things, but we're not and do not want to be replacement parents."

"Sometimes, however, we have to step in and forcibly separate parahuman children from abusive or neglectful parents," Kamil started, but was cut off by Danny's shout.

"I'm not abusing her!" Danny yelled.

Jim made a soothing gesture. "Please, Mr. Hebert, no one is claiming that you are. But in those cases where there is acrimonious separation, there are regulations that can be invoked to protect the child from their parents. Unfortunately," he said in a voice that suggested otherwise, "those regulations are poorly worded; Taylor can claim ex post facto that your relationship was personally damaging and that she requires the PRT to keep the two of you separated for her own well-being."
Danny straight up didn't realize that giving up guardianship meant exactly that. Danny Hebert is no longer legally responsible for caring for his biological offspring and henceforth has nothing to do with her at all. Taylor then drove it home by after the fact declaring that the relationship between her and her father what detrimental to her health and wellbeing, and that the government should keep the two of them apart.

Honestly all Piggot really has to do is promise Danny visitation rights to Taylor and she has him on her side when it comes to bringing Taylor to heel. Piggot can promise Danny the moon for all the good that'll do to get Taylor to listen to the PRT. Piggot has all the leverage she could ever want on Danny. But she can't use Danny in any way to leverage Taylor at all. Both legally and in Taylor's mind, she is an orphan, Danny Hebert is dead to her.

I wonder, how much time Danny spends alone in his silent tomb of an empty house, staring at the surface of his kitchen table, knowing the final blow was his own fucking fault?
I wonder how much time Taylor'll spend looking for a particularly shit retirement home to put Danny in on the off chance he doesn't work himself to death.

>implying that Danny is still alive

Bros, I'm gonna be honest, losing Taylor like this may just have broken him the rest of the way from how he broke when he lost Annette.

If this were a darker story, I'd be curious just how grim shit gets, given there is definitely a possibility there for if someone wanted to write an Omake using that idea.

Alternatively, his ol' pal Alan is the one to drag him back out of his funk, leading him to get even closer with the Barneses, and Taylor inevitably finds out that Danny is closer to Emma than he is to her, and the misunderstandings that leads to.

Also, jesus, I can;t believe this thread is *still* going. At this rate, it's still going to be alive when the 1 year anniversary of the last post comes out. :V

Whilst I do generally think very little of Danny, I don't think he'd take his own life.
Suicide by inaction is a thing. Get him a serious enough depression and is possible he walks into traffic or work's himself into exhaustion or get alcohol poisoning, or simply stays in bed and forgets to eat until he can't get up.

I think that was what her was in the process of doing when Annette died only for Alan to snap him out of it, unfortunately I don't think Alan is gonna step in this time. But what do I know perhaps Kurt or Lacy will talk some sense into him.

Subject: Taylor, Hubert being informed about the passing of her father

taylor was brought into a meeting with director Armstrong
Armstrong : have a seat Ph.. taylor
Taylor Sits down at a side table Armstrong proceeds to walk away from a small cabinet located in the corner of the room after closing the door ( records show this was a cabinet containing numerous alcoholic beverages in the trashcan under the desk, set an empty bottle of Tennessee whiskey)
Armstrong seems to struggle to speak for a while ( not due to intoxication but trying to find the correct word to say) " Taylor I'm so sorry, however, is my duty to inform you that your father has passed we shall with your help begin planning a funeral and arraignments for travel "
Taylor proceeds to sit there for several seconds "is that it?"
Armstrong seems slightly confused for a few moments
Taylor proceeds to say the following " I do not see how this has anything to do with me"
Armstrong seems to be slightly struck, and says " Taylor…"
He's got interrupted by Taylor " can you stop being my father when he sold me off to you unless you plan to drag me down there I am not going"
Armstrong looks stunned and simply stares at Taylor who walked out of the room"

Several attempts were made by numerous members of protectorate staff, the wards, and even Jim to convince Taylor to go to the funeral eventually the funeral occurred without Taylor.

Psychological Analysis
Taylor seems to have completely dissociated from human contact entirely the amount of trauma that this represents has only been seen in the most severe cases of abuse however, since we do not have any records of Taylor, being abused by Danny Hubert we believe that Taylor has internalize deep-seated distrust of humanity itself, it is unknown if there's any possible way to restore any semblance of trust in someone who has been so utterly betrayed by the world.
Final note
is my personal opinion as head of the psychological department the damage done to phase is likely irreversible. It should be noted that previous cases like this usually end in mass slaughter of those who have caused damage up to and including the creation of ash beast - dr bright

You've got a few examples of this (misspelling 'Hebert' as 'Hubert'), and it's consistent enough that I'm wondering if it's intentional, to show how little the psychologist actually cares about her.

Okay, so I'm assuming dr bright sucking at his job is intentional? Cause no therapist worth the paycheck would ever say that.

Any therapist worth a damm would refuse to get with said program as it defeats the object. Alternatively the Dr might be sending up as many road flares as possible in the vain hope somebody does something.
phase is a powerful parahuman.
she has subscriptions with the PRT and Authorities

PRT therapists are rotated around iirc. So it's easy to assume that they hire for numbers and willingness to cooperate with the rotation scheme.
This goes beyond that. This is actively giving up on a patient and therapists that are worth what they get paied don't do that. Cause once you get a reputation of giving up, and you will, NOBODY will hire you. Like I siD I assume it's intentional and that's fine, just thought I should point out how I saw it.

Yep that was intentional
and so is the name being wrong
the psychological department is filled to the gills with dropouts, incompetents, and mental instability

I imagine Taylor will say she wants to visit his grave at somepoint so the PRT takes her down to Brockton she even stops to buy flowers on the way. Once at the graveyard she places the flowers on her mother's grave and spits on her father's before leaving, cue the shocked looks on whoever the PRT sent to escort her.

But realistically speaking I do believe that Taylor will be emotionally destroyed by her father's death, she might not go to the funeral but that doesn't mean she will not care at all about her dad. Most likely I expect her to pretend like nothing is wrong only to break down in private and not tell anyone about it because she was open to one person about her mother's death and look how that turned out for her. Of course hiding such a break down would be difficult and if the PRT/Protectorate were smart or more likely have some kind of social Thinker on standby they will try and catch her when she falls.

She's immune to that stuff, though, no?
She is immune to targeted Thinker powers not ones that operate on enhanced cognition like Lisa or Accord's. At least that is how I understand it and I think there was a comment or mention by First saying that Lisa could still use her power to read Taylor's body language.

If they try she will explode worse because she will latch on damn quick they are trying to get at her while she is vulnerable. The prt best move is to do literally nothing and leave her be or let the youth guard handle everything for now.
