And the next group of destroyer escorts/frigates, including some more cancelled ships who would be adopted by New Zealand and Korea this time.
The adopted natives of Aotearoa get their names from the following locations:
Carla Vogelgesang-Fergusson (HMNZS Saint Mary's Bay): The Auckland suburb where the former home base of HMNZS Ngapona, the RNZN reserve unit for the Northland Region, was located; currently, Ngapona is based out of the Devonport Naval Base in downtown Auckland itself.
Wynne Weeks-Myers (HMNZS Dùn Èideann): Named after the Scottish base term for the city of Dunedin, where HMNZS Toroa, the RNZN reserve unit for the Otago Region, is located; BTW, the term Dùn Èideann is the Scots Gaelic term for Edinburgh.
Shelley Sutton-Bathurst (HMNZS Ōhinehou): Named from the Māori term for Lyttleton outside Christchurch, where an RNZN base, HMNZS Tasman, was once located.
Madeleine Wood-Monckton-Arundel (HMNZS Te Whanganui): Shortened from the Māori term Te Whanganui-a-Tara, the indignenous name of Wellington, the capital of the Realm; this one also pays honour to HMNZS Olphert, the reserve unit for the capital area.
Reagan Rush-Newall (HMNZS Motuihe): Paying tribute to Motuihe Island just off the coast of Auckland; this was where the old training base HMNZS Tamaki had been located in World War Two before operations were shifted to the Realm's largest city in the 1960s.
Wanda Williams-Freyburg (HMNZS Ōtautahi): Named from the Māori term for Christchurch itself; this one pays honour to HMNZS Pegasus, the reserve unit for the Canterbury Region.
As for the adopted Korean shipgirls, I used author's fiat to make all the adopted DEs heading to the Land of the Morning Calm become namesakes of the several cities in the Republic. Since said names have been used elsewhere (three other times for TMK Ch'ŏn'an, twice for TMK Andong), this will require the use of more classical terms for older ships such as landing craft.
BTW, I make use of the McCune-Reischauer form of Romanization for Korean; it's the system that I learned when I lived in Korea and it makes much more sense to me than the "revised Romanization" introduced in 2002.

Wynne Weeks-Myers (HMNZS Dùn Èideann): Named after the Scottish base term for the city of Dunedin, where HMNZS Toroa, the RNZN reserve unit for the Otago Region, is located; BTW, the term Dùn Èideann is the Scots Gaelic term for Edinburgh.
Shelley Sutton-Bathurst (HMNZS Ōhinehou): Named from the Māori term for Lyttleton outside Christchurch, where an RNZN base, HMNZS Tasman, was once located.
Madeleine Wood-Monckton-Arundel (HMNZS Te Whanganui): Shortened from the Māori term Te Whanganui-a-Tara, the indignenous name of Wellington, the capital of the Realm; this one also pays honour to HMNZS Olphert, the reserve unit for the capital area.

As for the adopted Korean shipgirls, I used author's fiat to make all the adopted DEs heading to the Land of the Morning Calm become namesakes of the several cities in the Republic. Since said names have been used elsewhere (three other times for TMK Ch'ŏn'an, twice for TMK Andong), this will require the use of more classical terms for older ships such as landing craft.
BTW, I make use of the McCune-Reischauer form of Romanization for Korean; it's the system that I learned when I lived in Korea and it makes much more sense to me than the "revised Romanization" introduced in 2002.
