Nameless [ZnT/?] Quest.

I figure the greatest risk of waiting outside is Sylphid either getting bored and leaving or being called back by Tabitha, leaving us to work out transportation back to the academy on our own.

Unless she does leave, there's not a lot of other negative things that can happen to us that I can think of. Louise isn't likely to have any personal political rivals hanging around what appears to be a town dedicated to prostitutes and prostitute accessories, and more direct harm is unlikely to befall us while we're accompanied by a dragon. The probability of assault and mugging does rise slightly if she leaves, but still remains low, since we'll be waiting in the company of a royal courier's guard.

If the timetable for the messenger finishing is "some time next morning", we'll obviously have a different situation.

{x] Drop down to the guard. Ask about courier and stuffs.
[X]Promise dragon more meat.

[X] Rule of Steel, Louise! Perhaps the dragon wasn't needed. But who could have guessed it wasn't...
- - [X] Go into the diner to retrieve the message, make sure you have Old Osmand's letter for the messenger.
- - - - [X] Be polite, be firm, and be diplomatically nice. Your VERY scholastic fate DEPENDS on this.
---------[X] After you're done there, thank the dragon for helping you and get more meat for it has a thank

=>> Stiff upper lip.

You are not going into that building. Not unless you have absolutely no other choice.

You go into the diner instead, and quietly question the guard.

"Hm.... Oh, no, won't be done for some hours yet I'd guess. Lord Mott takes his time." the guard mumbles. "Won't be leaving yet, mind. Doesn't care to drive through the night."

Outside, you catch a glimpse of the dragon yawning. Then with a flap, it rises up and away. The townsfolk seem relieved to no longer have the massive predator sitting right there, admittedly, but there goes your ride back... no matter.

Where is your letter... you pat yourself down quickly, becoming a trifle worried when you don't initially find it, you can't have left it behind, but on a second pass your fingers touch it just a little deeper in a pocket. You didn't think it was that deep, before, but it's been a trying day.

"Ah, sorry t'say miss, but the post's all in lock-up." The guard says apologetically, even as he nods at the authenticity of the note. "Can't do a thing to get it myself, only the lord has the key. On his person even now, I'd s'pect."

Grand. Marvelous.

And your stomach is reminding you now that it's a fair bit past luncheon hours.

Inventory do we have any cash or ability to right notes with which we can get meals at the diner while waiting for Lord Mott and with which to bribe the guard to remember us and inform Lord Mott.

You've got a few gold coins.

More than enough to cover a meal or two, probably shouldn't wander into shady back alleys or anything.

I guess you could try to bribe the guard to stay or something if you plan to wander off, but it's really Mott's call all the way. He says 'we're staying here for a bit', guard gets no say. Mott picks the route as he pleases. Mott says 'Well if it was that important to her she would be here now, wouldn't she? Doesn't matter if you paid off the guard, he's obligated to do what the guy says.

Would handing the letter off to the guard work, and if not, is sleeping in the carriage negotiable?

So go buy food for self and guard then plant self near carriage.

[X] Wait on the carriage if possible. If not? Wait under it's wheels! That letter will arrive at the palace over our dead bodies!

[X] Disregard hunger, wait at carriage.

[X] Wait at the carriage
- [X] Send the guard for food. Tell him we will cover his post while he's gone. Give him enough for a decent meal for both of us with a bit left over, and let him keep the change.

The guard is IN the tavern, why would we need to buy him food?

Oh, oops. Misread it - thought he (and we) were still standing next to the carriage he's supposed to be guarding.

Vote change:
[X] Order some food, then wait for Mott to get back.
- [X] Stay near the guard, as long as he doesn't go into one of Those Places. The carriage isn't going to leave without him, and we're less likely to be accosted by someone unsavory.
