Naruto Est Imperare Orbi Universo (Dio Quest)

[X] "Can we go to the park?" It's odd; you hadn't missed sunlight before, but now that it's a part of your life again you can't seem to get enough of it.

[X] Ima nara ieru darou, koko ga sou rakuen sa

Raccoon smiles brightly at you. "Of course we can. Let me just get your coat..."

The winters in Konoha are mild, and the sun is bright as the pair of you head out into the street. Owl is tailing you via the rooftops, and Bat is your forward escort.

It's a market day, and the streets are full of merchants touting the superiority of their products and customers eyeing each booth sceptically.

Their enthusiasm dims, however, as you approach. Passers-by take obviously unplanned detours through alleys; ladies at their morning grocery shopping huddle a little closer together; you even receive the occasional outright glare.

"That's him, isn't it?"

"Sullen little thing, isn't he?"

"The poor dear..."

"You don't mean to tell me you believe that garbage about him being human, do you? If he's really a normal little boy, why don't one of the shinobi families adopt him?"

Hm. This is troubling. You are gratified to hear that you are already spoken of with fear, as your abilities merit, but you know very well that one does not hold onto power by fear alone. And the lack of respect - if they believe you to be a monster, why speak so when you're clearly within earshot?

How will you manage your subjects?

[X] Give them something worth fearing. THE WORLD!
-> [X] Write in.
[X] All-out charm offensive. Say good morning to everyone you pass, and wave to them. The ones who're truly afraid will be more intimidated, the undecided will feel ridiculous for fearing a small child, and those who express sympathy will be heartened by your benign façade.
[X] Civilians are irrelevant. Konoha is a military dictatorship; above all you need the shinobi on your side.
-> [X] Ignore the gossip-mongers.
-> [X] Feign tears and ask Raccoon why everyone hates you. She has a maternal streak you've been working on for some time now.

I think that we can win ove th Shinobi in due time, since we are going to become one after all, but building our support among the civilians will be harder the longer we wait.

Hmm.

Honestly, none of the options really strike my fancy. We are such a dick deep down, and I am pretty sure nothing will change that, that if we go the nice human route our true self will be seen as an act so we'd need to carefully guard our secrets.

In a village of ninja.

We need to find a way to cultivate a personality that can be seen as natural. Not something stark like psychopath vs nice kid, that is far too obvious. Even aiming for Beware The Nice Ones won't work because, well, I'm currently doubting we'll be able to hide our nature when we really get into something.

If each path can already be distorted so that over time we end up with a image closer to our real personality, something that can justify our vices and excesses, that's one thing. As they are....just not feeling it. To some extent they all seem a bit short-sighted.

Hymn, just for a second, Imagine how Paranoid!Orochimaru will react to us being friendly and chipper and cheerful to everything.

And then we see him.

We look at him.

And we SMILE.

Yes, it would be very amusing. I just don't want to commit to a blatant facade that easily discredits us and all we've worked towards.

But if we do it right, we'd be Dio, as Naruto, pulling a Tanimoto!

It would be delicious.

-[X]React with tears when rebuffed. No one said you can't play multiple angles. It'll stroke the sympathy bone harder especially in raccoon.

What's the issue with "ignore the gossip-mongers"?

Doesn't sound like it accomplishes anything.

Do it wrong and...well, I'm sure you can imagine.

Plus if we're gonna play a Grade-A asshole, I'm not inclined to be a Grade-A asshole pretending to be a Grade-A Nice Guy. Even if no Becoming The Mask subplot occurs, I don't even want to pretend that much.

Especially if we have to be like that all the time. That would grate, on Dio too I suspect, if he has to be nice to people he hates. Plus, if it's a psychopath's imitation of a nice person, sooner or later I think we'd slip.

Not setting a bad precedent can be an accomplishment in itself.

So, what exactly are you looking for here? What kind of kid does react to negative gossip around him, but not with tears or attempted niceness? So far I've got sticking our tongue out at our detractors or pretending to put on a brave face and hold back our tears.

Eight years. That's how long Dio lasted playing the golden boy. He only got caught because Jonathan, by chance, found an old letter. Before that Jonathan was the only one who saw through him, and even then, Jonathan 'seeing through' him took the form of "Why do I hate my foster-brother? He was a jerk for like three weeks when we first met, sure, but ever since then he's been great. Am I going crazy?"

I think ten years old is a wonderful age to go missing-nin. ^_^

There's a reason I said none of these really strike my fancy. None of them incite a feeling of, "Yes, THIS is what we should do!"

Point, but the golden boy facade would drop at some point. At least slip. I mean come on, would you REALLY let us play a Quest where we were a total dick, acted like a saint, never got caught, and ultimately the deeds accomplished amounted to the same thing?

I'm betting purely meta at this point, but I think the act will be exposed sooner or later and when it does, I don't want it to fall in such a way that we burn every shred of credibility with everyone who believed the lie.

Something's gonna give, I'm betting on that.

I think ten years old is a wonderful age to go missing-nin. ^_^

That, however, is a different story entirely.

If you'll actually let us leave Konoha, fan-freaking-tastic, how soon can we do?

As soon as it makes sense from an IC perspective. At the moment you have the backing of the dictator-for-life of a super-power village; there's no reason to throw that away to go camping.

Always easier to have peoples first idea about our personality to be a good one.

That doesn't answer much of anything.

Fair enough. I suppose...

Less because I want to ignore civilians, more because I don't want to be out-and-out friendly to everyone when it doesn't really sound like we're like that with our captors. If we're gonna be concealing our nature, start with socially unaware and sheltered child.

EDIT: ....Wow I just described our caretakers as captors.

Freudian slip if I ever heard one.

Perhaps we can't mantain the acr forever, but we can create the act that our happiness is an act to hide our sadness, thus if they see through us at some point they might assume that we are growing resentful instead of thinking that we tricked them all along.

I dunno guys, being super friendly didn't really help Naruto for the first 13 years of his life.

Irrational hatred is irrational.

Naruto was more of a prankster who went through his life thinking that any kind of attention was alright with him. Dio, on the other hand, knows better than that thus he will be more successful with the civilians.
