Your alarm clock blared, and soon your hand came down upon it like a hammer. Another day, another eight hours of soul crushing work. Better than being homeless, but you wouldn't mind having a large mansion in the rural areas. It would definitely beat the suburban one story house you've got, but time for another job.

Waking up, you shed your PJ's before stepping into the shower. To your shock and subsequent cursing spree, it's fucking cold and you nearly fall flat on your ass.

What the hell happened to the hot water? You had it set on hot, shouldn't it be warm and relaxing instead of tit-freezing cold? Relenting, you take a cold shower to just wake up. A shitty way to start a shitty day, and you've still got work in two hours.

...

After getting dressed and having breakfast consisting of bacon, wheat bread, and eggs, you were seeing the morning news to see if anything interesting has happened.

"In recent news, casualties from the Evergreen Mall are still coming in." You didn't hear anything about that, so you kept listening as the newscaster spoke. "Twenty-three year old Frederick Johnson was found after being missing for three days, devouring a cat behind the mall." A picture of the man in question was up on the screen, showing a bald man wearing a Jersey Saints T-Shirt.

"Bo~oring!" You say as you turn the TV off, before turning to get ready for work. But a scream from outside caught your attention, and curiosity had you by the reigns. Looking through the peep hole, you noticed someone was fighting a group of people off with a shovel.

What do you do?

-[x] Go out there and help him.
-[x] Name: James Croft
-[x] Appearance: A bit chubby, brown haired man with green eyes.
-[x] Age: 30
-[x] Occupation: High School History Teacher
-[x] History: James likes his free time and hobbies, and is a bit lacking in ambition. He decided to be a high school teacher so he can enjoy summer break every year and get a stable job that is never going away and won't require constant swtiches. He acts as a DM/GM for a group of table top roleplayers

M'kay, thanks.

Might've jumped the gun a bit since this is my first quest here.
No problem. Glad to have helped.

Are we voting by plan or by line?

[X] Plan Mechanical Engineer

[X] Name: Alexander Gray
[X] Appearance: You are relatively thin, dark-haired man with glasses (this is, in fact, your main vulnerability, as the rest of your health is decent) and you often dress in business casual style (suits without ties, etc), even during your free time.
[X] Age: 27
[X] Occupation: Mechanical engineer, you specialize mainly in electric power generation and maintenance, and in fact, you are employed by the electric utility company.
[X] History: While your current work is well-paid, you come from poor family and struggle with enormous debts that were needed for your education, early life, and your house. You can feel depressed about this, but well, at least you managed to archive a very decent education... Sadly, these are far from all your issues - your social skills are far less developed than your formal education, and you often feel rather lonely. Books, fantasy, s-f and various computer games are your main hobbies in your spare time. You also like weapons and military history.

[X] Fuck that, grab your shit and get out.

This is far from Mary Sue character, there are important flaws, and his engineering knowledge may be too theoretical (blue-collar mechanic could fix your car much faster), but he is more useful than a history teacher, and less cliche than a doctor. I wanted to create someone with interesting skills, but balanced.

Pretty interesting, and seems alright from my view.

Welcome to the road!

Bug Out Engineer
Mechanical Engineer won the coin flip, now let's get started.

...

Deciding 'fuck that', you decided to close the blinds and make sure none of them were going for your house. The first thing you're doing is grabbing your Revolver from the dresser, some ammunition, your toolbox, and the emergency med kit in the pantry. There was something nagging at the back of your mind, like you were forgetting something important for your escape.

Snapping your fingers, you realized your car keys were still hanging next to the front door. Grabbing them quickly, you ran to the garage before shutting the doors and loading your stuff into the car. Toolbox was in the backseat, med kit was in the back along with some clothes and dry foods you were able to grab. It wasn't much, but it should keep you alive in the days that come.

Opening the garage door, you got into the car and turned the key. Once the engine was started, you hit the pedal to the metal. The road to your left led to the town's exit, all you needed was a clear path and no problems.

...

After a few hours of driving, you were just about a mile away from the town's exit. But there was one problem, one that was keeping you from leaving the town of Evergreen Hills and screwing you over.

The bridge out of town was blocked up by a bunch of cars that had the same idea you had, and it looked like you couldn't fit even a bike through it. You came too far to give up now, besides you could make it out of town within a few hours of walking...

Or you could find an alternate route, perhaps that'll do the trick.

What do you do?

Okay, from some perspective and objectively speaking, our reaction was slightly weird, even though I voted for that. People rarely react to public disorder/riots (unless we know what a zombie is, but even then we should have some goal in mind) with immediately escaping the town.

Excuse me, but how big that town is? A few hours, seriously? I could probably walk 30 km after a few hours.

Well with traffic being a bit chaotic and some accidents, it was a bit of a setback.

That, and for some reason most of it wouldn't save in the document.

The dirt roads would certainly seem to be the smarter choice here.
We apparently have no clue how deep the river is, thus we could easily lose the car if we go that route.
Ditching the car would severely limit our ability to traverse longer distances and a potential shelter for the night.

The highway exits will probably be a death trap beacuse we don't know where the zombies are coming from and their may be some desperate people that may be problems. As for crossing the river in our car, do we really want to get ourself soaked by the river this early in the outbreak?
