Also the with rapier calcs:
Balanced build energy bolt lvl1: 63
100 int build energy bolt lvl1: 80
100 int build energy bolt lvl2: 110

Not as bad but not quite worth putting all points in int in my opinion.
There is also the bonus from the int 50 (and possibly a int 100) perk. Also the damage will continue to grow very fast as we increase our skill level (which is easy until level ~10).

While it's true that energy bolt will get stronger it's no longer quite as cut and dry as to which will do more damage. Melee has kept up with it even without taking into consideration weapon damage or piercing proficiency. And that's just our standard attack, if we use power attack we'd spend as much mana as if we'd used energy bolt but do even more damage. And power attack levels as well and benefits from us getting into more combat since that'd increase our weapon proficiency thus increasing damage.

No melee damage do not keep up, especially not when perks are taken into account (the int 50 perk among other things gave +30% to the effect of mana using skills and +5% to magic attacks).

Also energy bolt has the huge advantage of being a ranged attack. The mana cost will also stop being much of an issue soon due to how much mana you get from just leveling up.

Do you honestly believe that we aren't going to get perks for our other stats? We'd likely get perks for all our stats anyway and at last check power attack was a mana using skill so that'd have gotten boosted as well.

While yes there are benefits to having a ranged attack said ranged attack is going to be less useful when things close in, at which point going melee would be more useful as we do more damage there.

You do need high stats to get those perks. The leading plan does not reach 50 in any stat.

As far as we know there is nothing preventing us from using mana bolt at short range. Also we can research spells suitable for close combat if necessary.

Winning votes:
[X] +8 Strength
[X] +12 Dexterity
[X] +8 Vitality
[X] +21 Intelligence
[X] +19 Wisdom
[X] +12 Luck

[X]Image Selias.

And for destination, there's a tie between woods and sewers.

Sewers or woods huh...
[blockquote]Rolled 1d100 : 90, total 90[/blockquote] For sewer encounter if it wins...
Woods mob is decided.
Sewer may have this or that...

My point was that melee damage would be able to keep up with energy bolt in terms of perks as well. And while we won't be getting a perk yet it puts us in a position to be able to unlock quite a few at once. Not to mention we can level up stats via hard work which should make that easier as well.
While there likely isn't anything stopping us using mana bolt at short range, why would we? Our damage is higher if we use power attack and it costs as much mana as mana bolt meaning that using it in melee would be a waste of mana, at least if our goal is to kill our opponent as opposed to grinding skill off it.

Actually, as far as I can tell it was 4 to 3 for sewers.

It's a dumb, suboptimal vote disturbtion. No stat at 50, adding points to str when we are a magic character, and so forth.

Considering that you were one of the people who forced the rest to either consolidate behind a suboptimal distribution or risk a suicidally retarded one winning, I'm not sure you have a right to complain.

Strength should help things like Jumping away from dangerous things.

[X] You are The Sorcerer, with all that comes with it. Wielding the formidable powers of White, Black, Blue and other forms of magicks with your weapon, you can unleash mighty devastation upon your foes. You are no slouch in close combat, either, as your channeling medium is an enchanted rapier, its glyphs allowing you to fight far better than a stereotypical magician could do.
We use magic and melee.

Niiiice. Giant rats, here we come! Or shit monsters slimes. I suppose it could be a witch or lich, too, but that would be pretty boring.

As per word of GM initial enemies are not hard. As such, the build was not suicide, it is simply maximizing skill gain. SB hyper paranoia where everything is treated as Dark Souls and people are cowardly idiots afraid to take any risks even when there can be excellent rewards is one of the worst parts of quests.

Ah, thanks. That makes sense.

IIRC it also does it if you preview. Which made checking to see if you'd done everything right less then fun.

You accessed the status window and distributed your stat points accordingly, raising your base stats. As you pressed the [Accept] button, you could feel some change within yourself. Even if your physical appearance didn't change, you could feel that you could run faster, jump higher, hit harder and cast more spells without tiring out yourself.

After closing the status window, you headed for

, where a series of mysterious kidnappings of children and pregnant women were committed over a decade ago, before the kidnapper was caught by the police. It was revealed later that his victims were...used to express various forms of art with the help of his accomplice, though said accomplice was never caught. The details of the art was never officially confirmed, but various rumors still circulated throughout the community, its details already morbid from the start, which gossips and hearsay only made it worse. Thankfully, such topics were discussed behind closed doors and out of hearing of children.

Even if the other three locations were more likely for you to meet up with a Witch or Lich, you felt that the amount of despair and grief in the Sewer would probably spontaneously give birth to one, albeit weaker compared to the others...or stronger. Which to you meant that you had to finish it off first before it could harm others. Even if there weren't any, you could get rid of some of the vermin living there before hunting the existing ones.

As you went to the sewer entrance located near the river, or more specifically, the very entrance the serial killer was caught. You looked into the darkness, and shivered, before steeling your nerves and took another step forward-

Ping!

You are now entering a Dungeon World.
Would you like to save beforehand?
[Yes] [No]

After confirming that, yes, you wanted to save, you entered the Dungeon World, and were immediately attacked!

Hostile Encounter: Dire Rat x2

[X] What do?

OOC: Changed the character sheet a little. And also, please specify what would you bring for this dungeon raid. Maximum of 5 items, as long as they're reasonable and obtainable for a richer than average teenage Japanese male.

You know, I wish that I had thought of this earlier, but we really should have practiced a bit, before going out to hunt monsters. I'm sure we could have gotten a level or two in using our rapier and magic from shooting/stabbing trees, or something.

Actually, you did, but you were more on discovering new abilities than actually actively grinding them. Of course, there are 20 levels in total to master the skills, so your progress is well for someone who just Contracted.
