Rika Quest: Exercises in Infinity (WTC: Higurashi)

[X] Rika Furude the resistance fighter- protest the dam construction with Shmion.

[X] Hang out with Akasaka. Be pampered.

Akasaka comes to town right on time. You show him around as soon as he arrives before he gets busy with the kidnapping investigation. You like him the most out of any of the adults. He always spoils you rotten. You make him buy you some candy, but the vendors refuse his money- it's free for the Furude Shrine Maiden. Huhuhu.

"Rika sure is loved, huh?" Akasaka comments.

"Mii- thank you very much." You bow to the old lady and leave. You pop a piece of candy into your mouth as you walk away.

Akasaka is also one of the only people who will keep it to himself if you act strange around him- allowing you to relax a little, and not have to put up the cute facade quite so much. Most of that is simply due to him being an outsider to a village, and a stranger to you on top of that. He also seems to have some kind of built-in paternal instinct regarding you. You can flat out tell him all sorts of creepy shit and he'll still stand by you. He's pretty awesome.

You give him the tour of Hinamizawa, finishing off with your usual dire warning about him regretting coming to Hinamizawa. You stopped doing that a couple times, but that invariably ended with Akasaka being killed in the investigation- apparently, his chances of surviving go up if you put him on edge with your cryptic warnings. So you do it. It's fun, anyway. With your bangs falling over your face and the moonlight silhouetting your figure, you look incredibly demonic wearing your slasher smile. You are possibly a little bit sadistic.

[X] Rika Furude the resistance fighter- protest the dam construction with Shmion.

You track down Mion and tag along uninvited to her latest escapade. When she calls you out on it, you go with your planned excuse. It usually works. This is definitely Mion by the way. Yeah, you know they were switched as kids by mistake, but you doubt they even fucking remember it. It doesn't count. Thus, Mion equals game-playing Sonozaki head, and Shion equals occasionally bat-shit insane yandere murderess. Anyway..

"Mion will protect me, right? So there isn't a problem." you say.

Mion gives you a hard stare before sighing."..haa. Fine. I don't really get it, but sure, tag along. But you better not slow me down."

You don't really do anything- you're sabotaging construction equipment today, and you don't really have the muscles to help out, and the tools of the trade are limited to those who know how to use them. (Basically, Mion gets the crowbar.) You know Mion gets arrested here because Ooishi pulls one over on her, so you help her escape with an alternate route. It took some convincing- a lot of the people participating in this operation are younger, meaning they don't listen to you as much as the old folks- but Mion eventually decides to trust in you.

Your escape is flawless. You can see Ooishi in the distance looking confused. You laugh your fucking head off in your mind. That jackass is responsible for, like.. 90% of the timelines breaking. One of your friends goes insane because he unwittingly feeds them information to fuel their paranoid delusions. Fuck that guy. Any time you can make his life difficult is a win. After you make it to safety, Mion corners you.

"How did you know?" she asks.

Your innocent act is fraying along the edges here. "Mii.. I had a bad feeling."

"Hmm.." Mion hums noncommittally. She seems to accept your answer at face value for now.

"Well, thanks. That would have been bad. The police wouldn't have charged me with anything, but Grandma would've yelled at me for getting caught.." she trails off, looking out into the town.

Shion greets you as you enter the Sonozaki household, looking worried. "How'd it go? I heard there might be trouble."

Mion glances at you before saying, "We're all fine, thanks to Rika."

You flash a victory sign. "Nipah✰"

"Huh." Shion says as you walk past the entrance threshold with Mion. You split up as Mion goes to talk with her grandmother, leaving you with Shion. She doesn't really know what to do with you. There's a semi-awkward silence.

You're hanging out at the Sonozaki's, and you're bored. What now?

You leave Shion to her own devices. You have an Akasaka to stalk.

You head over to the forest next to where the kid is being held. The chase should come in right around here. You'll be hiding in the bushes nearby. You won't be found- who on Earth would expect you to be here in the first place?

It's really boring- your timing is bad, so you have to wait for a few hours. You might be shielded from the sun under the canopy of trees, but it's still humid as hell. You're sweating buckets.. this isn't sanitary at all. At least you've had worse. Haha, it's optimistic, get it? All you have to do is remember that time you impaled yourself on a kitchen knife and everything seems like motherfucking rainbows and sunshine in comparison.

Finally, you hear leaves rustling and turn your attention to the source of the noise. You make sure to keep your head down- you won't get careless and be discovered here.

It's Okonogi, the leader of the Yamainu. He has the kidnapped grandchild in a fireman's carry, and he's dashing deeper into the forest. Akasaka must be close on his trail, as he stops abruptly and tosses the kid against a tree. He flexes his arms and turns to deal with the rapidly closing Akasaka. He takes a fighting stance as Akasaka does the same.

You watch the two incredibly manly men duke it out. You have to supply the hammy dialogue in your head, as these two are all business- no witty banter here. Akasaka is outmatched in this duel. You know that with a few years of training, he'll be able to wipe the floor with him, but as it stands now Okonogi is the superior combatant. He doesn't even have to draw his gun, laying him out with a vicious series of punches and leaving him bleeding on the forest floor. Okonogi grabs the kid again and sprints away.

If events play out as they do normally- Akasaka will get a second wind here and chase after him. Okonogi will be forced to draw his weapon, and that's where things get dicey. Akasaka may end up getting lethally shot, or he may end up being saved by Ooishi. The combat is very even on both sides, which is why the outcome is so hard to predict.

Looking down at Akasaka, he still hasn't moved from his spot on the ground. What the hell.. why isn't he getting up?.. Is he hurt worse than you thought? Should you just wait..?

What should you do?

[ ] Rush out to him. Get up, damnit.
[ ] Just wait.
[ ] Chase after Okonogi yourself.

[X] Chase after Okonogi yourself.

[X] Chase after Okonogi yourself.

Eh, he's fine. Probably. If he's not there's nothing you can do about it. You're going to stick where the action is happening, and that's off wherever the fuck Okonogi ran to.

You head off at a run. You're no expert tracker, but anyone could follow the trail of disturbed foliage he's blazing through the forest. He's still way faster than you, even carrying the kid. Unless he stops you aren't going to catch up.

Luckily for you, he does stop. You guess he just wanted to build enough distance. His plan has already gone up in smoke anyway- any minute now he'll get the order to withdraw because pressure elsewhere will force the dam project to be canceled, making this whole kidnapping completely fucking pointless.

He's talking into a walkie-talkie while keeping an eye on his surroundings. You're still hiding in a crouching position in the brush. You start to consider what you should do from here, but Akasaka interrupts your thought train. Oh good, he's alright. Well, that was quite a beating he took. It's impressive that he can keep going at all. He comes rampaging into the clearing, totally catching Okonogi by surprise.

"You won't escape..!!" Akasaka roars, smashing into Okonogi full force and tackling him to the ground. They scuffle a bit, fighting for position- Okonogi manages to disengage and wipes a trail of blood from his face, looking grimly at his opponent.

"Goddamn, how are you still even alive? I don't have time for this.." He pulls out a gun from his belt, and Akasaka recoils in shock.

"Damn..!" he curses. He looks frantically for any avenue of escape- the kid is tied up to a tree, and he goes for him, ripping the bindings as a shot rings out, missing him by inches.

"Run!" he screams at the kid. He takes cover behind the tree as Okonogi slowly and deliberately advances, his gun raised. His gaze occasionally drifts to the young boy running away, but his main focus is on the tree Akasaka is hiding behind.

Akasaka suddenly steps calmly out from his place of safety, his hands in the air. He stares calmly at Okonogi, daring him to make a move.

"Wh- do you want to die?!" He points his gun straight at Akasaka's head. "You goddamned idiot. You're dead."

"Ah.. I don't think he is. Eheh." Ooishi steps out from behind another tree, with his own gun pointed at Okonogi. He's smiling jovially, like he doesn't have a lethal weapon pointed at someone.

"You-?!" Okonogi whips his head around, but keeps his gun pointed at Akasaka. "Damn..!"

"Even Akasaka isn't that reckless." He nods toward Akasaka. "Well done, rookie."

Okonogi breaks the stalemate with a loud gunshot- Akasaka dives for cover, but the shot wasn't even aimed at him. Ooishi pulls his own trigger without hesitation in response, but Okonogi is fast- he took off the moment he fired as a distraction. Without anyone encumbering him, the injured Ooishi and Akasaka have no chance at catching up to him.

You notice he dropped his gun though. Ooishi and Akasaka have rounded up the kid and are putting a lid on this case. They're wrapped in their own conversation.

What now?

Obviously scythes aren't Rika's thing. Bazookas are. But we all have to start somewhere..

I'm mildly curious about what would happen if we told her the ultimate fate of the town even if she does escape the timeloop.

You edge closer to the gun and swipe it, then beat a hasty retreat. Wouldn't want to get spotted in THIS kind of position. That would be all kinds of awkward.

Lethal weapon get! You raise it above your head and do a pirouette while a vaguely familiar melody plays to commemorate your success.

It's a semi-automatic, and it still has.. eight, nine, ten shots (ha ha ha!), by your count. You don't have any clips to reload it, so you'll have to make them count or somehow acquire more ammo. You are at least minimally proficient with it- as in, you can use it, even if your aim past a couple meters is awful. This will be so handy for getting rid of people who just need to fucking die.

You head back to your house and stash it in your backpack. There isn't anywhere on your person you can hide the gun- you ARE really fucking tiny. You would kill for some hammerspace.

Now what? Canon is still a bunch of years away, Keiichi isn't here, Satoko still lives with her parents- hell, that construction site manager is still alive. If you follow events as they are supposed to play out, you should cut the phone lines Akasaka will be using in order to be able to warn him of the upcoming murders and your own demise before he learns of his wife's death and leaves Hinamizawa.

Well, not going insane would help avoid derailing your own plans. Hopefully they such things wouldn't stop Rika from hearing the voices that really are there, though.

An update..? What is this.

[X] Visit Irie's clinic, obtain anti-psychotic injections.

You scedaddle on over to Irie's clinic in the dead of night and steal some Extra Strength Anti-Psychotic Injections like a ninja. A ninja that walks through the front door with the key. You gain +1 hiding in plain sight skill (not really).

Now you can stab people with this in the hopes that they'll get off their murderous high horse. Or not. There was the one time Shion stole the goddamned thing and injected you with it. Bitch. If you use this on yourself or someone unaffected by advanced Hinamizawa Syndrome it will fuck them up pretty badly. You would know.

You head over to Satoko's after stashing your loot back at your place. You're glad this town is so fucking small, or you'd never be able to get anywhere on your tiny little legs.

Her parents are disturbingly light drinkers. The only booze you can pillage is some very classy wine that you're sure they'll be super pissed to find gone in the morning. Oh well, not your problem. You bet it's tasty.

You decide to lure Satoko out of the house first. "Heeheehee.."

"Saaatooookkoooo.... oooooo..." you call out in an eerie voice.

"Hyah...?!" You spot her from the around the corner jumping up in her bed, pulling the sheets closer to her and looking nervously around. She squints in the darkness, trying to make out what startled her from slumber.

"Heeelllp meeee..."

She starts to look around worriedly. You hear footsteps from behind and beat feet up into the attic to hide. Shit, Satoshi has a sixth sense alarm for detecting when his sister is in trouble. No, seriously. It probably counts as a goddamned superpower. You aren't stealing Satoko unless you remove Satoshi from the equation first.

"Are you alright, sis?" he says gently.

He comforts her back to sleep in a nauseatingly sweet scene of sibling love. You take your booze and go home to regain your good mood by snuggling with Hanyuu.

[X] The gun is speaking to you. "Kiiiillllll theeeeeemmmmm Aaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll"....

The voices in your head are starting to become cliched, but you'll roll with it. You make sure the gun is loaded and ready to fire with the safety off and creep into your parent's bedroom. They're sound asleep.

You point the trigger next to your father's temple and pull. The bullet blows through his brain and he's slammed off the bed from the residual force in a mess of grey matter. Your mother wakes up and starts screaming bloody murder. You smile up at her, the gun pointed straight at her chest and a falsely sweet smile on your face. "Nipa~"

She's frozen like a deer in headlights, falling silent as you step closer and she edges backward. She hits the wall and presses up against it. You cock your head sideways curiously, contemplating how she should die. You settle for a bullet to the heart. No need to draw it out. She falls to the floor, dead, blood trails oozing down the wall behind her slumping body.

You toss the weapon aside and wait for the police to arrive and act like the shell-shocked kid. No one suspects you- why would they? Inside, you're laughing. Laughing at everything. Did you change anything? No. No, they'll just pick two new targets to perpetuate Oyashiro-sama's curse. Why the fuck did you think this would make some kind of difference. Your broken laughter worries the nurses looking after you, but they nod in understanding at your loss. What fucking dipshits. Fuck. Fuck everything.

You're alone in a hospital room. Hanyuu appears before you, looking both solemn and stern.

"Rika." Her voice has more presence than usual. Rather than being a barely actualized spirit, she now feels like she engulfs the entire room. Your eyes are pinned under her gaze.

"I've been content to observe your recent changes, but you've crossed a line here." She frowns slightly.

"You are going to tell me what is going on with you." Her gaze sharpens, as does her tone.

"Now."
