[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

Why Jaune Doesn't Use Hammers...
Nora was staring intently at Jaune. Usually this wasn't a huge issue: She often stared at others for a variety of reasons, ranging from figuring out what to get them for their birthdays to contemplating if she could make cutouts for pancakes in their silhouettes.

However, at the breakfast table in the cafeteria, Jaune had a sneaking suspicion that Nora had a different object in mind with her intense stare.

Jaune cleared his throat.

"Yes Nora?"

Nora beamed.

"I think your Semblance is cool, Jaune!"

Weiss blushed. Yang grinned. Blake sighed dreamily. Ruby stammered, her own cheeks burning bright red. Pyrrha's smile became rather saucy. Ren tensed.

"I uh... Thank you? It's pretty fun, sometimes," he admitted. Okay, he was still dealing with the issues of his existence but he had to admit, it was pretty neat.

Nora nodded.

"Think fast!"

She tossed Magnhild at him, and Jaune, out of reflex, reached up to catch it in both hands. Ren actually gaped at her as Nora beamed. Team RWBY and Pyrrha collectively gasped. Pyrrha in particular leaned in to Jaune as he bowed his head, the great hammer held in his hands above him.

"J-Jaune? Are you all right?" She asked worriedly.

Jaune threw his head back and laughed. It was loud, boisterous, and utterly unrestrained.

"Nope! Name's Ivan, Lass! Hey Nora!"

"Yes Ivan?" Nora asked eagerly, gripping the edge of the breakfast table in anticipation.

"Wanna see who can headbutt the most Grimm to death?" Ivan asked with a broad grin.

Nora gasped.

"I do!"

"Wait, hang on-!" Pyrrha shouted, but Jaune and Nora leaped up and ran for the doors, cackling with glee.

Ren's eyes narrowed as he went for Storm Flower.

"Ladies," Ren stated, cold as ice, "If you'll excuse me..."

- - -

The others all chased after him too, of course. They were too deeply infatuated with Jaune not to.

But Ren knew Nora. He knew she could be subtle and stealthy when she needed to be. When she wanted to be alone with...

His grip tightened on his weapons as he dashed through the Emerald Forest. Already, despite his intense focus and control, despite his Semblance... The self recriminations were flying through his head.

Did she... Did she finally get tired of waiting? Did I make her upset? Did I do something to make her think Jaune is a better choice...?

Ren didn't resent Jaune. On the contrary, he saw Jaune as close to a brother as he could. They'd only known eachother for around a year but after all they'd been through, they had become friends. A respite from the feminine chaos that dominated their lives. He was a capable leader and Ren trusted him with his life. He trusted him with Nora's life.

That wasn't an easy thing... Yet... If Nora truly wanted Jaune more than she wanted him...

His heart clenched hard at the thought.

Anger flared in his breast... Then shame.

I was a fool to think she'd wait forever, he thought to himself, dashing through the trees at breakneck speed, If she saw something in Jaune... If he was willing to reciprocate... What right do I have to stand in their way? As long as she's happy... That's what matters...

Right?

He heard the sounds of Nora's grenade launcher. He sped through the trees, hopping off tree trunks in his haste, before he broke out into a clearing dominated by a small creek.

An Ursa went down with a gurgle, its head crushed into pieces. Standing over it, holding up Magnhild and his forehead dripping with blood, Jaune (Ivan, he thought) grinned up at Ren. Nora, nearby, had crushed another Ursa's skull with her own, and was celebrating.

"Ren! Bro! Glad to see you!" Ivan winced and rubbed his forehead, as it was already healing, "Having some trouble with the technique! Gotta practice a lot!"

Ren's fists clenched around his weapons.

"I see," he whispered.

Ivan stared at his friend, as Nora whooped and celebrated behind him. He grinned toothily.

"You should just tell her, friend. I have no interest in my battle sister," he said firmly.

Ren started. He shook his head.

"Then why...?"

"Because she thought it would be fun," Ivan snorted, "You idiot. Do you really think she'd love anyone but you?"

Ren's lips thinned. He looked down in a burst of shame.

"I... I'm sorry-"

"Don't be sorry, damnit!" Ivan huffed. "Be a man, Ren."

"RENNY!"

Nora cheered and leaped over Ivan's dissolving Ursa, and embraced him as tightly as ever. She beamed up at him.

"Ivan's almost got the technique! He's not as good as me yet, but I'm sure he will be! You wanna try?"

Ren blinked slowly. Red crawled up his neck.

"Ah... I um..."

He felt a strong hand on the back of his head. This hand shoved him forward. His lips met Nora's. Their teeth bumped together and their noses ground past eachother...

It was... Perfect.

"Oops!" Ivan chortled. "My bad!"

Ren and Nora's lips parted. They stared intensely at each other. Nora licked her lips, a gentle blush on her face.

"That... That's okay, Ivan," Nora managed.

"More than okay," Ren mumbled.

"Welp! You two get to making me some nieces and nephews!" Ivan boomed. "I'm gonna get some whiskey, then gonna pound whoever I run across in the forest! Grimm or girl! They all get the hammer!"

A pause. Ivan's grin widened

"The hammer is my-"

"We get it!" Ren said quickly, as Nora giggled.

-Neptune tries hitting on Jaune's sisters when they visit. How does that go for him?

Well, in Aqua Arc's case, I imagine she'd either mooch off Neptune as much as she can, so she can buy some bubbly. Then completely forget he exists the moment she sees her little brother or, maybe, Kazuma chatting with some girl.

Or, Neptune would run from her as if the Grimm Queen herself was after him once he learns Aqua's semblance and her nickname.

***

And for some reason the image of Kazuma talking to a girl turned into this idea of him giving dating tips to Pyrrha (which are, in essence, "don't be Darkness").

Pyrrha: So, I'm the one who's supposed to confess first?

Kazuma: Yeah. I know most romantic stories focus about the guy confessing and the girl being courted, but guys like Jaune …ahem...harem leads…ahem… are rather dumb in that regard. So, it's up to you. Tell him you like him and how you want to go about it.

Pyrrha (glazed eyes): So, should I tell Jaune that I want him to…

Kazuma (recognizing it immediately): HELL NO!!!

Pyrrha: But you said…

Kazuma: Don't tell the guy all your fetishes the moment you ask him out. Make some probing questions first, and for goodness' sake – be subtle.

-Isabel Arc can't help mothering her son or his friends at school when she visits. How do they react?
  • Nora would be enthusiastic and happy to let it happen, while Ren is pretty much the same, but just more Stoic about it.
  • Yang and Ruby might actually start crying (not necessarily in a bad way), as the experience of being mothered again reminds them a lot of Summer used to do it.
  • Weiss is reminded of Willow before Jacques abuse broke her, and how if not for that abuse, Willow would have been an amazing mother (Weiss might react by suddenly wanting to call her mom, or becoming incredibly sad and possibly crying like Yang and Ruby, probably in a bad way).
  • Pyrrha just kinda goes with it, as it's not all that different from her own mother, so she's kinda used to it.
  • No idea how Blake would react.
-Sun's monk foster father visits Beacon along with his Pig and Cicada brothers. Journey to the West level shenanigans ensue.
Some notes, because in Journey to the West, the group is a bit different

  • Pigsy is a pig-demon, but he was also married to a human woman before joining the pilgrimage, so he's likely a skirt-chasing pig faunus.
  • Sandy is a river demon, but he specifically lived in a sand river (the Liúshā-hé (流沙河, "flowing-sand river", or "quicksand-river"), but he excelled at swimming and submerged combat regardless if it was in water or sand (he might have got better than most because a quicksand-river would be so much harder to swim in).
  • Tripitaka is actually the reincarnation of golden cicada, so they would be Sun's monk foster father instead of his brother.

On a side note, I was always disappointed by Sun's design, as it misses so much opportunity, as he just has jeans and a plain white shirt (with the open shirt maybe giving some basic surfer dude vibes, but even that's weak), and he might be blond in reference to Goku's super Saiyan (which is when pretty much all JttW elements were already dropped from DB).

JttW Sun Wukong wears a Tigerpelt around his waist (because after his war with haven and 500 years under the mountain, all his clothes are completely gone), had a golden cursed ring (Jin Gu Zhou), or Phoenix Feather Cap on his head, and generally bright yellow clothes with red/orange accents (both before and during the pilgrimage).
Sun is also (somewhat) tall, while Sun Wukong was very short (literally the size of a regular monkey).
Sun's design is very boring to me, he never gets another outfit, and they had a large mount of increasable iconic design parts to chose from and pretty much none of it is used in his design.

JttwSun wukong was also never interested in anything romantic or sexual, and while he sometimes flirts to trick someone, he always stops before going all the way through (though as an Intelligent Stone Monkey, he's a Single-Specimen Species, so it may simply be a matter of there not being another Stone Monkey to catch his interest).

@AndrewJTalon, are you hinting that we'll we be gettting some Jaune×Grimm-Girls soon?

"Who the Hell is Pyrrha?"
One idea I have seen a few times, but rarely done well, is Pyrrha coming back as an antagonist. I mean you've got your Grimm!Pyrrhas and so on but let's think about a slightly more plausible and interesting scenario. All it requires is a little world building, and one crucial change to the battle with Cinder.

Originally, Pyrrha wasn't going to be vaporized. There was a model of her dead body and everything, though ultimately this was seen as too dark. So instead, let's have it that Cinder doesn't vaporize Pyrrha. Ruby still shows up, still uses her Silver Eyes Blast, and Cinder has to retreat.

An Atlas Specialist team in a gunship that's been rigged to not pick up the virus flies in. Originally it was tasked with retrieving Penny, but they spot the battle on the top of Beacon Tower and investigate after gathering up Penny. They just miss Cinder escaping and Qrow carrying Ruby away, but they find Pyrrha. Who, despite Cinder's best efforts, is only mostly dead. Her soul is just barely hanging on.

The team leader and medic jury rig some of the tech used to preserve Penny's soul on Pyrrha, and they get her to Atlas ASAP. It takes a long time and a lot of work from their best medical and cybernetic specialists, but they do restore Pyrrha to life.

Unfortunately her memories are pretty fragmented. It'll take time for her to truly be who she used to be... And unfortunately, agents of Jacques Schnee get wind of this and target Pyrrha. Jacques wants his own enforcer, and if he can't get Penny? He can get a girl who nearly beat a Maiden all by herself.

Eventually Pyrrha "dies", the project is deemed a failure and Ironwood buries it... But in reality, Jacques Schnee has the Invincible Girl as his personal assassin and enforcer.

So at some point when our heroes get to Atlas, they encounter a redheaded girl thwarting Cinder's schemes but also thwarting Ironwood and their efforts to stop Cinder. It's a game of cat and mouse until Jaune manages to knock her mask off... And..

"Pyrrha?!"

"Who the hell is Pyrrha?"

Thus, instead of Ironwood being a disappointing and nonsensical final boss, you get a cyborg mind controlled Pyrrha as a threat all her friends have to fight and hopefully wake her up out of her mind control.

There is no Jaune... ONLY DOOM
Okay idea that can definitely go dark
Jaune is a isikai... but the who he was in his previous life he tried not to be after after Beacon... he decides
if being the hero didn't work
time to go back to what did
time to be a King, a Wizard and a Scientist.
IF he could not be the hero to his friends

Well....

Ruby walked towards the work shop Jaune had hold up in for nearly a week. Since the fall he had changed. His temper was shorter his time for his friends shorter still. She opened the door and found him standing before a forge banging away.

"Jaune!"

He was facing away form her clad in a green tunic covering full armor showing no hints of young knight she knew.

"Jaune?"

He answered but his tone of voice was different then his usual. Deeper it seemed calm on the surface but hiding the rage Ruby knew he had been fighting to contain.
"No. He is dead. Jaune Arc is dead." he continued hammering away at what was before him.

"What?"

"He died when his partner shoved him into the locker for beaing WEAK. I can tolrate that weakness NO LONGER. He was a fool. Perhaps a well meaning one but a fool non the less. This world is no place for a fool.

Ruby came closer seeing what he was hammering at as he put down the hammer. A metal mask glowing from the heat.

"The body you see before you is now reborn." His gauntleted hand took the mask and while the other pulled back the hood of his tunc revealing his helmted head all but sealed from teh world but the front she could not see and before she could stop him he placed it upon seemingly his own face sealing himself in.

Suddenly it he began to glow with unknown to her power.

"Cinder and her mistress will now know the folly of thier actions. For they have drawn the emnity of... "

I have the feeling that most fans (me included) don't seem to be aware just how abusive Jacques must have been in canon.
He's a literally a merciless, controlling, sociopath treated his wife and children as accessories that only exist to serve him, and his four victims each display one threat response:
  1. Freeze (Willow sank into alcoholism and depression)
  2. Flight (Winter fled the family to join the military)
  3. Fight (Weiss wants to become an honourable Huntress to take back the family name from him)
  4. Fawn (Whitley lacks the ability to escape, so became his father's "mini-me" to fend off abuse)
The scale of the abuse is never really revealed, and he might have never done anything physical, but Willow did place secret cameras throughout the house in case evidence was ever needed, which says a lot.
Imagine feeling so unsafe for yourself and your children in your own home that you prefer to be recorded 24/7 just in case something MIGHT happen (which could be considered paranoia, but I'm not an expert).
That shit is not the product of just some basic neglect.

DOOM!

That's a fun one. 😁

Alternavely, what if Doctor Doom was Jaune's father (or mother), or maybe even grandparent?
Doctor Doom is pretty much a king, and it would make Jaune something of a prince.
Imagine the reactions and interactions that could happen when they find out that Jaune is related to the world's biggest benevolent dictator of an incredibly prosperous, completely self-sufficient and technologically advanced country (it might be pretty small in size compared to the others, but that doesn't change the odds when you have Dr. Victor Von Motherfucking DOOM on our side).

Honestly if Doom was on remnant... unelss you have Reed and the FF there wwith him.. he's taking over all of remnant the only variable is how long it takes him.

Another thing, and I'm a little mad canon glossed over this.

Because of Ironwood none of them get closure.

Jacque was removed before they really had a chance to get over their issues with him in any meaningful way. Sure he is removed from the company (and mortal coil) but his shadow is still very much hanging over his family.

I never made the connection between the Schnees and the four survival responses. That's… well not neat …interesting. Also an example of the little things that kept me coming back to Rwby despite compounding issues with the story, they do great details like that but have trouble stringing them all into cohesive plots.

so for Jaune as Doom. I figure he'd take control of all the kingdoms then get rid of Salem and Ozma. Thinking banshing via his combo of science and magic to the end of time and the end of the universe. figure that would get around that pesky immortaltiy.

Cinder however.... She dared take what was Doom's. Though I'm thinking he might just made a new time machine to steal Pyrrha from her death and offer to make her his Queen. (wiether she accepts or not can be another story)

Cinder I think he'd get creative with. Death would be an escape.

How would y'all think he'd do to her to make her wish for death?

Which ties into even more heartbreaking things and to a lot more heartwarming thing. When Ruby screamed at Weiss during her (Ruby) breakdown, Weiss actually shrank back....

Fsp5aKUXwAI1UJI

....yet in the same episode, after Jaune was done screaming at Ruby, Weiss did not even hesitate to call him out (to be fair, Jaune himself instantly acknowledged that he was in the wrong and that he was not fine) without fear of his angered state. Hell, even back then when Jaune was screaming at Oscar; Weiss was the only one who moved to try to stop him (Jaune) from harming Oscar.

In other words, even with all the abuse-derived trauma caused by Jacques; Weiss still trusts Jaune/feels safe around him to the point his anger and outbursts don't trigger a flinch from her.

-Write some adventures of the Huntsman and Wonder-Zwei! And the numerous nefarious supervillainesses they run into!

Alternative Idea - Velvet and Cardin become superheroes to track down and capture the cat burglar that's been terrorizing Vale, and giving Faunus an increasingly bad rap in town. The cat burglar is Blake, of course. Whether she's looking for White Fang information, or stealing stuff like her chibi counterpart, is up for grabs.

I'm pretty sure I saw this on of the daily jumpchain threads on SB, possibly DisposableFace, either way they basically si'd into Ren.

Some prompts:

-Juniper jumps through a portal and ends up in the past of Remnant. She finds Jaune... On his way to Beacon for the first time. Shenanigans ensue.
-Cue the scene where Jaune is running from his mom while she chases him with a slipper this plays in the background
latest

ok, but how is she holding the slipper without hands and why is she chasseing him?

Well on this note because of how much we're focusing on his mom's/the arc side of things. How about some focus on his dad's side of the family. And here's some ideas, which probably wont be used by anyone else.If past times I do this is any example of things going.

Nick's Father - An old knight named Orion Pax who adopted Nick when his birth parents passed away at a very young age, an old man at this point who never stopped swinging his axe in the name of others. Has the title of prime and rank of Grand Master of the Order of the Guiding Spark. Would try and be around his grandchildren more if not for still taking quests/missions, and seeing them through to the end. Jaune has seen him very little, but the old knight has left a heavy impression on Jaune and his idea of being a hero. Refused to sponsor any of his children in getting into the order, if they wish to do so then they must do so on their own merits.

Nick's siblings -
-Bee Pax, Jaune's oldest uncle on his dad's side. Energetic and cheerful, especially around any of his nieces of his one nephew. Acts as a scout for the Order of the Guiding Spark, constantly refuses his fathers occasional nudges to move into other positions in the order.
-Rod Pax, Jaune's second oldest uncle on his dad's side. Occasionally as playful as Bee, tries to keep it up around Jaune and his various nieces, but also suffers from a great deal of imposter syndrome after shooting up the ranks after lucking his way through being the one victorious survivor against a tide of Grimm amongst his squad.
-Adam, son of Orion's blood brother Randor and considered as good as part of the family. A blonde man who often seems rather weak when not using his semblence, which turns him into a much stronger and daring form alongside his pet tiger. Was able to be around more than Nick's older brothers for Jaune and his sisters, never really used his semblence around them as there wasn't much need.
-Zachary Foxx, an orphan adopted around the same time as Nick. A Valean Ranger who lost his arm protecting a town and had it replaced with an experimental cybernetic arm.
-John Blackstar, an orphan adopted around the same time as Nick. An astronomer that disappeared for a few years and came back with a pair of strange looking swords that can connect to each other.
-Nick's youngest sibling, an orphan adopted around the same time as Jaune was born at roughly 8 years old. Refuses to take a given name. The least muscular of the family, not involved with directly fighting whatsoever. Spent perhaps the most time around Jaune and his sisters of the various uncles. For the past year was brought in by a mysterious academy city, one which Ozpin refuses to acknowledge talking about.
-Shiho Nishizumi, Nick's older sister. Has not been around Nick's family much, of the two times they have interacted with her she brought her two daughters Maho and Miho along. Very involved in training and managing tank regiments alongside a tank based sport. Her husband has perhaps interacted with Nick's family more, solely through bothering with sending post cards and calling them occasionally to check on things.
-Motoko "Kusanagi", Nick's sister. A special operations police woman, has had large amounts of her body replaced by cybernetics. Jaune has no memories of meeting her, the same with all but his oldest sister. Motoko has at least met with Nick and Isabel not long after each of their children were born, but has never had the ability to do so at a good time or all too freely thanks to her job. Does a very bad job of keeping in touch, her boss has talked to Nick more than her in the last twenty years.

Someone else wants to do something with this, feel free. I'd also considered adding in some other folks who were basically family thanks to who close things were. But I feel this is enough for now.
I'm proud to say that I recognize all but the last three, even if it took me a second to remember that He-Man was named Adam. I think the last one is from that anime evangelion, but I've only seen two maybe three episodes back in the early 2000s, so i don't remember if she had cybernetics or not.

and what about Orion Pax's brother-in-arms Megatron? you can't have one without the other, it's just not done.

Also didn't AndrewJTalon say that Nick's foster father was a monk? how would that fit in with this?

huh...me thinks Winter might find him to be quite the gentlemen lol!
personally thought Goodwitch would have been a better pick for Miguel

Well, they are mostly a lot younger than Isabel. Isabel is late thirties/early forties. Alexander is next oldest, around the same age, and he went into the church. Nanami and Irina are late twenties or early thirties and Sanji is early twenties. He was practically a baby when their parents died. So they have some time but Arturia is still gonna pester them.
wasn't Irina marry to Tadaomi Karasuma in assassin classroom?

Nope, Ghost in the Shell.

Also kinda surprised you recognized not only the Galaxy Rangers reference and Blue Archive but also Blackstar. I would've included Thundarr...but he deserves better. Just in general. And Herculoids...eh, I just don't see them being a better fit over some of the other potential options.
and what about Orion Pax's brother-in-arms Megatron? you can't have one without the other, it's just not done.
That'd go alongside other people who are basically like family. King Randor for example, Megatron for another, even Conrad Hauser and General Hawk(the latter being Nick's godfather), and can't forget good old uncle Hector Delgado who was surprisingly good with children even if he was a sailor through and through. Maybe we could talk about Jake Rockwell and the experimental armor team he's on. Leoric, knight of the order of the vision and his band might be able to show up. Sandra Shore and her oddly well armed team of "archealogists" who often come back with rather damaged armor and low on ammo might be able to make an appearance. Or The Bennet family who had an accident not long ago that have been acting as hunters as one big family team.
Also didn't AndrewJTalon say that Nick's foster father was a monk? how would that fit in with this?
Doesn't matter until he actually does something with the character or fills things out beyond a random mention here and there. So he can either do something or others can do something else, not like he hasn't shifted around things on the Arc side of the family before. Heck, an argument could be made that Orion Pax here is basically a warrior monk. I've never said a thing about a wife, and most of the so called "children"/aunts/uncles are mentioned as either being adopted or raised practically like siblings. Not far of a stretch to make them all adopted. And there were numerous knights in the past who were monks. Like the Templars as well as Hospitaller.

What can I say, I'm a man of culture.
Well it's nice to see some of the kinda obscure references got noticed. But will people recognize...Bionic Six, Inhumanoids or Visionaries. Maybe. Doesn't matter either way. At least Centurions should be obvious. Man and machine power extreme I guess. Better than referencing the Lazer Tag show.

Some morning prompts:

-Aqua Arc and her little family of adventurers come to visit Jaune at Beacon.

-Cardin desperately asks Jaune for advice on romance. Jaune is like WTF?

-Jaune asks Yang to train him, and Yang agrees so she can learn more about Pyrrha to hopefully beat her one day. Jaune wants Yang to train him because he feels that Pyrrha is holding back on him and he wants to learn how to take hits from someone who WON'T hold back. They bond.

-Ruby and Jaune try a joint gaming stream together now that they know eachother's identities.

-Weiss has a few unusual relatives of her own. Including Cousin Dante and Cousin Virgil...

-Ozpin is bored and so has the teams swap leaders around. Now Jaune is leading Weiss, Yang, and Blake while Ruby is leading Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora. Shenanigans ensue.

-Lines of Succession: Blake and Pyrrha finally have a chat.

-Cowboys of Remnant: RWBY and JNPR are assigned a job to protect some cattle ranchers as they bring their herds into market. Jaune shows a very different side of himself on this job...

-Ironwood doesn't know what to make of the Arc Clan: How the hell are so many crazy badasses from one family? He decides to assign Winter to investigate.

-Ren is seen as a rival by Dove for "Stoic Cool Guy". Ren was unaware he even had a rival and isn't sure what to do.

That'd go alongside other people who are basically like family. King Randor for example, Megatron for another, even Conrad Hauser and General Hawk(the latter being Nick's godfather), and can't forget good old uncle Hector Delgado who was surprisingly good with children even if he was a sailor through and through. I'll be working on Nick's backstory soon. Stay tuned!

Jaune is an effective team leader, it's just that having to lead team WBY is rapidly turning him homicidal.

Meanwhile, Ruby has a massive, massive inferiority complex over how well-oiled NPR are and how they credit Jaune for it. Alternating cooking days, each team member taking turns with their hobbies, friendship weapons (like bracelets, but lethal), "let's make fun of Pyrrha's commercials" nights, etc.
