Safe For Work Worm Ideas thread

I'm not blaming anything on Simurgh. I'm just pointing out that a entity that bases it's entire strategy and behavior patterns on complex multistep plans aided by precog may actually be capable of basic subterfuge. Going dormant gave her access to Taylor, Lisa, and lots of tinkers who weren't trying to kill her at the time. There are all kinds of goals those things could be useful for (like say cloning Eidolon). Hell even if (which I still consider very likely but not proven) Eidolon created and controlled them it is likely the decision to suddenly change their behavior in such an obvious manner was part of a scheme to bring him back because suddenly showing themselves in public doesn't really match "going dormant" staying where they are and not doing anything would make more sense. They were clearly drawing attention to the fact something had changed to get access to parahumans to manipulate.
It's very possible this is what happened and it was all a Simurgh plan. But there is no evidence for that, while there is a reasonable bit of evidence (albeit inconclusive) for Eidolon being responsible. Given the lack of a conclusive in-story answer, either interpretation is valid for fanfic; however, it's not wrong to point to the theory with the most in-universe evidence and say "this is what we think happened".

WoG also says that the EBs wouldn't have existed if Cauldron hadn't mucked about with Eden's corpse.

Given all the other info we know... it's asinine to say that Eidolon wasn't the catalyst for the Endbringers. Whether the motivations were subconscious desire for a foe to fight... or simply accidentally pushing the "Activate Superweapon" button while toying about with all of Eden's powers (which we know she had control over because of her interlude and she's a manipulative bitch like that)... is an unknown. Although it is quite telling that when one was destroyed, three more were born.

Not exactly a crossover idea, but knowing the Dresden Files books would help:

Taylor triggers as a projection type Master (maybe she triggered elsewhere, and Crusader was nearby, probably out of costume, or maybe it's just a different trigger without a ping). Her numerous projections behave like traditional fairies, or at least Winterfae as interpreted by Jim Butcher, as she read a few Dresden Files books covering them, shortly before her Trigger Event. Her projection obey her, and call her Queen Mab.

She may have a Trump power with a Queen of Winter theme, but if so, she has to act like Mab when using it, and she probably doesn't want to do that too often. She can summon her Court either way, but can probably summon more while behaving like the Queen of Air and Darkness. As with her canon power, Unintentionally Creepy Taylor is going to happen, the question is how fast.

So, thoughts?

EDIT: Disturbing thought: if she projects Mother Winter, that Fae wears Annette's form and voice, and seems to have her memories.

Why not the disturbingly sexual teen Queen?

It'd be kinda neat if you used the Dresden cosmology, and Entities are Outsiders... perhaps Taylor is the first reborn Queen, and the others will follow, or she will progress to eventually become Mother Winter (end-game).

After I left to look at other sites, it did occur to me that Taylor would make more sense as the Winter Lady, with the projection that looks and sounds like (a very idealized version of) her mother being Queen Mab. Taylor doesn't like to call her, both because she has so little control over the elder Queens, and because Mab doesn't act like Annette, she acts like Mab.

I should also state that one of my inspirations was a character from TaraNari's Amelia, though Taylor's projections are from a more mature perspective.

Didn't want to use the actual DF cosmology, but that's up to the author, really. Wanted to have DF be fiction in-universe, and have people noticing the similarities.

Either way, if Taylor has Winter Lady/Winter Queen themed Trump powers, she's going to be able to empower someone with the Winter Knight's Mantle, so the question is, who?

In terms of the Rules that the Fae Courts operate under, parahumans might automatically count as 'involved', and thus fair game (just ask Glaistig Uaine), whereas non-parahumans are probably only fair game if they're specifically involved with parahumans, such as the PRT or unpowered members of the gangs. If Taylor is aware of the Unwritten Rules, her Court will treat unempowered families, friends, and acquaintances of parahumans as uninvolved unless they choose to involve themselves.

In a brick room Shadow Stalker laid with her crossbow no where in sight. The last thing she remembered was a giant pink cat with massive green eyes and a labcoat flying at her then nothing. Sitting up Shadow Stalker observed her surroundings. All around her were tables filled with guns ranging from pistols to a mini-gun, all of which were painted pink and had strange cartoony animal faces all over them. A spot light showcased every gun on the tables. The only feature other than the massive cashe of pink guns was a door with the words Professor Tay...

"Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Professor Taynki's Super Ethical Reality Climax!" A voice from... somewhere shouted interrupting Shadow Stalkers analysis of the room. "Tonight for our first ever show we will be featuring a special guest! Please welcome Shadow Stalker!" The door before Shadow Stalker opened and what she saw was a death arena. Hallways were lined with flaming nozzels and open electrical wiring that sparked periodically. Cameras lined the walls and roof while people wearing animal suits and carrying guns started to take cover hiding many from her view.

"Now since this is our first ever showing I will explain the rules." A different voice shouts. "In this show we choose one outstanding individual to compete for wondrous prizes. The contestant will have to shoot their way through the Professor's Mascots. Kill enough of them and the exit opens to the next area. Get through five areas and you win the prize!"

A third voice joined in sounding extremely high pitched but still seemed somewhat male. "Oh and no super powers since those are Un-Ethical!"

"All righty now lets get to Professor Taynki's Murder Time Fun Time!" The first voice started with the other two voices joining in as soon as he started the word 'Professor'. The costumed people sprung from cover and started pointing their guns at Shadow Stalker.

"Fuck!"

It's Only Necrophilia

It was a dark and mildly humid but otherwise generally not quite unpleasant night. Well, actually it wasn't quite that dark either, the clouds were fairly sparse and the moon was out. Plus, y'know the whole middle of the city thing so it being dark would be the least of anyone's problems at the time. So okay, it was an otherwise unremarkable night, unless you're somewhere hot then it'd be fairly unpleasant.

This suuuuucks...

If you still had the motor function to do so you'd properly voice your complaints, but seeing as you're neck is currently broken and lungs filled with some manor of fluid you really hoped was your own blood you had to settle for mental ranting. Honestly being unable to at least vocalize was probably the most aggravating thing about your current situation, well that and the monotony.

Soooo bored...

You actually kinda missed the terror you'd felt at the beginning, the absolute disgust that came with knowledge of where you were and the soul crushing claustrophobia when you'd realized you couldn't even scream. But it's kinda hard to maintain shock for more than a few hours, really anything other than annoyance had faded around the second day. Honestly you viewed as a bit of learning experience, people really could get used to anything with enough constant exposure. Or you at least anyway.

Stupid useless super powers.

Yeah, seriously fuck whoever came up with such bullshit as giving the giving the paralyzed girl immortality. Healing? Ha, who needs that. Made you wanna choke a bitch. God, you just wanted to die already, oblivion can't be any worse than this. Fuck, this is why Purgatory is considered one of the circles of hell! Oh christ, what if you really were dead and this is what the afterlife is? Just reliving you're death over and over again! That'd just be terrible, what kind of god would allow such a mockery of justice? Probably one who'd let you become immortal while trapped in a garbage filled locker... Fuck that guy.

Ugh, you really wanted to know what the hell the faculty were up to to miss discovering your body after a whole week. You're pretty sure that you smell something terrible what with all the rotting garbage around you. You're not actually rotting yourself though, a small plus. 'Oh sorry we've left you in one of the rings of hell Ms. Hebert, but look on the brightside, at least you can have an open coffin funeral!' The people at this school suck, you wouldn't be surprised if the janitor actually knew you were in here and was pretending he didn't just so he wouldn't have to actually do his job for once. Yeah that was just the kind of school this was.

Wait, you're pretty sure the janitor was Hispanic, so did that make you racist for thinking he was lazy? Nah, you already had a low opinion of everyone of the staff regardless of race, it was just a coincidence. Though it was probably racist that you actually remembered his ethnicity enough to question your own thoughts. Well that's some damn circular reasoning there doc.

So caught up in your thoughts you were taken by complete surprise when the door to your makeshift prison opened. Well it wasn't like you could react any different if you did know in advance, as it was you fell forward, only able to glimpse three very familiar and equally shocked faces before plummeting towards the ground face first.

Ow, If you could still feel pain that would really suck, thankfully you don't and having your face no doubt caved in under your own weight was only mildly annoying in that all you could see was the floor and a pair of sneakers.

There was some panic, a lot of shouting, the illumination going crazy form the flailing flashlights, and one of those bitches even puked right on you! Hey, fuck you too! It lasted an embarassingly long time, before a couple smacks could be heard and saved your eardrums as it seemed to snap the dipshits out of their hysteria. Seriously you came out here to hide the body and then immediately blow your cover by panicking over my dead body, you are officially the worst murderers I've ever met, you should be ashamed. I demand a refund, or should at least get a chance to trade you in for someone decent.

"Goddamit, shut up you dumbasses before someone calls the cops!" You heard a few more smacks and whimpers follow Soph's loud whispers and immediately felt relief. Thank goodness, you were murdered by the competent one, "Shit, this bitch is dead, we gotta dump her somewhere. Emma, help me drag her to your dads van."

"Um, h-how can you be sure she's dead?" Asked Madison something or other.

You could here the silence following that question as even the insects and birds seemed to quiet as if to wonder if the girl was being serious.

"Well," Began Sophia after a moment, sarcasm oozing from her, "It could be the fact that she's been confined in a small locker filled with shit for a week without eating or drinking."

You felt your hand being lifted up as the girl knelt beside you, "Or maybe the fact that she doesn't have a pulse and bugs have started to dig into her."

Your arm flopped to your side and soon you felt your hair being lifted from your neck, "Or perhaps it was the GIANT FUCKING NAIL STICKING OUT OF HER NECK.

"Whatever it is I'm pretty sure the bitch is just a pile of spoiled meat that will get us in a lot of shit if you dumbasses don't start moving!" Hess, ripped the nail from your neck and threw it at her companion who squeezed and fell on her ass. It was then that you realized something quite wondrous had just occured.

"Holy shit she just moved!" Emma screamed, "Her hand closed!"

"It's just a death rattle, now shut up and help me while Maddy cleans the locker."

"I didn't sign up for this!"

There was a slam as Hess shoved her compatriot into the adjacent lockers, moving up against her till their faces where almost touching.

"Listen here you little shit, I'm not going to jail, not for you, not for no one, now grow up and help. Because if I think for even a second you aren't 100% on board there will be another body that needs to be buried tonight. Are we clear?"

Madison whimpered, not seeming to trust her voice in the face of such a threat. Sophia released her with a hard shove into the locker, "Good."

"Ah- um guys?"

Sophia whipped arround at her friend studdering, "Dammit Emma you better not be puss-" Her words died in her throat however as her eyes widened.

You don't really blame her for her reaction.

After all it's not often you see a dead body stand up and dust itself off.

[X] You should probably try and kill them. And eat their brains. Seems like the kinda thing that you do in this sort of situation.
[X] Yeah, fuck this you're out, let the idiots sort this out themselves, you're late for a date with you're dad, and shit that sounded a lot lest incesty in your head.
[X] Seriously, Worst. Cover up. Ever.
[X] Something else.

If your having a vote perhaps it should be in it's own thread?

Maybe Squirrel is trying to see whether enough people are interested in it to start a Quest?
Then why not post in the interest and idea check thread? We have got a SFW one after all, this is in the creative writing section rather than the questing section so either an oversight, mistake, or deliberate.

Or because Worm's the current big thing, Squirrel wants to make sure his idea isn't missed. I rarely check that thread, so I would have missed it if it was there.

So, deliberate, probably. Can't blame him.

Have some thought relating to alternate trigger events, and wondered about the effect, if any, of a quite small change in Taylor's canon trigger event:

In the morning before Taylor goes to school that day, or perhaps the night before, she watches a rerun or video tape with her father, of the Muppet Show episode with Crystal Gayle, and the last song sticks in her mind:

She's perhaps even humming or singing it to herself before she reaches her locker, and later tries to focus on that song to distract herself from her horrible situation, while she pounds on the door and waits for rescue. She still realizes that no-one is coming to help her, and triggers, but the song is part of the information that QA takes from her mind when designing her powers.

So, thoughts?

Updated the story time thread with the redone version of Oh, Joy. The SI story where I reincarnated as Emma and nearly blew up the moon with in the first couple minutes of having a power.

Here is a link for those who might be interested.

Okay, so I've been watching way too much YouTube the past few days and with the recent release of Five Nights at Freddy's 4, I had an idea a few hours ago. It's likely terrible, but I want to share just to see if it gets some thought.

Taylor triggers as a Tinker, though with a lack of resources she can't really do anything with it. One day when she runs into the Trio out of school and runs off to try to keep away from them, ending up hiding in an abandoned building nearby. A building that happens to be a pizza parlor that closed down a decade ago, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Seeing the run down and totally disabled animatronics, Taylor's powers kick in overtime due to her having a robotics specialization (her trigger is based more on her sense of isolation, so her powers triggered in a way to provide her with the ability to essentially make her own friends) and she starts coming by every day after school and doing her best to repair them. Meanwhile, the spirits trapped inside start to take a liking to the extremely lonely teenager that's been fixing their bodies when she starts talking to them, since she really has no friends and starts to vent to the animatronics to keep herself sane. Earth Bet's weirdest, and possibly scariest, crime fighting team is about to be born.

In summary, a Worm/FNaF crossover where Taylor turns a group of possessed animatronics into her crime fighting partners. The criminal element is going to have no idea what hit them.

My idea for a Five Nights crossover was Taylor getting a summer job during 2010, and consequently giving no fucks about the bullies when she quits and returns to school. Having killer animatronics out to get you for weeks on end tends to put things in perspective.

But I like yours, too.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if at least one of the guards had a stress induced trigger from the Fazbear Gang.

Why do you think the place closed down? It wasn't due to the business being in good condition after all, a shaker with an anti-tech effect triggered in there, I mean it was already too late for them so they died but there's a reason why there haven't been killer robots running or the building being reused, anything much more complex than a light bulb just failed to work. Then of course Taylor comes along and takes the animatronics out to another location after fixing them up allowing them to move for the first time in years and plot ensues.

I love the idea of parahuman privateers.

Faultline's Crew would fit right in to such a setting.

The Undersiders could be made to work, too, with some effort.

But what would the rest of the world look like? How could this possibly be justified?

Make them actual pirates. Abandon the 21st century countdown-to-apocalypse entirely and rewrite Brockton Bay as a port city in the Age of Sail.

E88/Gesundheit, PRT/Protectorate/Guild, ABB, Adepts, Elite, etc. map well to a wide spectrum of competing national navies.
Coil and Accord are local port governors with grand ambitions.
Merchants are legitimate merchants trading opium and porcelain from 'Asia' and weapons and mechanics from 'Europe'.
Teeth and S9 are roving Evil Pirates to Faultline/Undersiders/New Wave Good Privateers... not that the national navies are very concerned about the distinction whenever it's their own ships and ports getting seized and assaulted.
Alternately, take a page from Shana the Short and export the whole thing to space instead.

Leviathan isn't a single creature. It's actually an entire ecosystem of giant sea monsters that do target ships. The enormous archipelago that Brockton is part of is closer to a mostly-sunken continent. It has a continental shelf and pre-settler ruins (above and below the surface) and everything, and that relatively shallow water is what keeps the monsters out. The absence of the monsters within the archipelago is also what makes it the safest trade route between 'Asia' to the west and 'Europe' to the east. Explorer ships found the route, merchant ships solidified it, colonial nations from both continents began staking claims with warships, bases, and towns, pirates began raiding, and the nations began hiring privateers to protect their own ships and harm others'. There, worldbuilding done.

Fuck the Age of Sail*.

Worm: Black Lagoon.

The Undersiders cut through the waves on the backs of giant amphibious lizard-dogs (who do the mutant-lizard-doggie-paddle, of course). They also have a house-boat, or, actually, a doghouse-boat.

Faultline always travels by catamaran (even if the journey started on a regular boat).

Lung's steamboat casino is powered by his pyrokinetic rage. Oni Ski rides a jetski, as should be obvious. Recently, though, Lung has acquired a new Tinker, and he's putting together a fleet of Orion-class speedboats. Yes, that Orion. So far only Lung himself can survive the acceleration curve.

*) It's old enough.

You wanted letters of marque. I gave you letters of marque.

More seriously, I went with wooden ships because of the historical context and simple fact that they're much more romanticized. Steel ships are possible, if you don't want the sea monsters to always curbstomp any ships they encounter, and of course space is possible too. I wouldn't allow with any naval technology more recent than WWII though.

The best bet may be a transitional setting, where the presence of 'Artisans' (Tinkers) has a visible effect on global development. The Entities, if they even exist in this elseworld, didn't think to install any restrictions on mass production because this version of Earth hadn't even developed interchangeable parts yet. That was a mistake. Internal engines (they very nearly skipped right over steam and internal combustion) and steel hulls are very new developments, and if the main characters are not in a navy then they have/stole one of the first ships of the new paradigm.
