Anne "Bunny" Tsukino is a normal 14 year old girl, maybe a little bit of a crybaby and a spacecase. Until the day she found she was a mutant and a talking cat called Moira, gave her a magic brooch, and told her she was Sailor Rogue, the Mutant Champion of Justice.

Sailor Rogue and the X-Senshi

Chapter 1: The birth of Sailor Rogue

With apologies to Deerdevil

New Tokyo, State of Fusan, USA

Anne "Bunny" Tsukino bolted out of her home, running as fast as her legs would carry her down streets crowded with the same mix of faces you'd find anywhere in New Tokyo, round eyes and almond eyes, her neighbors' grandparents having come from a dozen different corners of Asia to build these islands into Fusan, fiftieth state of the Union, after Hawaii. She didn't have time to think about any of that this morning. She was late.

She was late, and she hadn't had time to finish her breakfast.

"Ah can't believe mama let me sleep so late!" she said to herself, in the Southern drawl she'd inherited from her mother.

She stopped for a moment when she saw three little kids tormenting a cat in an alley. She stepped into the alley, and yelled at the kids.

"Hey! What the heck are ya doing?" The yell, combined with her unusual appearance, was enough to send the kids scrambling, though one of the kids tried to throw a stone at her, which she dodged easily.

"Such rascals! Tormentin' a cat!" she said.

She picked up the cat, a blue short haired female cat trying desperately to remove something from her head, which turned out to be two bandaids forming an X of all things.

"Poor dear, let me," she said, as she removed the bandaid, revealing a crescent moon shaped mark.

"Wow," Anne said, as she had never seen such a mark on a cat.

Suddenly, the cat jumped out from her hands until she landed on a nearby wall and fixed her with an unblinking stare.

"Creepy…" Anne said with more than a little wariness. Then she noticed the hour, "Oh, no. Ah'm late!"

Anne ran out at great speed, faster than any schoolgirl had business running, fast enough that a taxi driver did a double take, watching her overtake him on the sidewalk, though her speed kept anyone from getting a good look at her face.

The cat watched her go. She had seen that kind of speed before, on a world that didn't exist anymore. She filed the girl's face away to remember.

Later, on the break hour in New Tokyo Crossroads Middle School

"I can't believe you, Anne, an F in the test?" Anne's best friend, Wanda Lehnsherr, a redhead girl, said.

"Yeah, yeah, rub it in," Anne said, "Miss Sakurada didn't have to scream at me in the corridor."

"Hi, girls," Doug Umino, a kid with thick glasses and a bowl cut, said, cheery and awkward as ever, "Anne, how did you do in your test?"

Anne groaned and lowered her head in shame.

"Can't you tell by how depressed she is? Of course it was bad," Wanda said.

"Oh, did that hurt? I'm sorry," Doug replied, having the grace to appear contrite, only to ruin it by showing his own test just afterwards, "Look, I didn't study and I didn't get an A plus as usual, only an A."

Wanda buried her face in her hands and Anne covered her eyes.

"Tough room… But anyway, did you hear that Sailor M went up against the guy behind that jewel heist?" Doug said.

"Sailor M?" Anne asked.

"Yes, the superheroine that has been causing an uproar!" Wanda said, "Some people call her a mutant terrorist, but I think that she is fighting the good fight!"

"But I can understand why somebody would like to get the jewels, they're so beautiful!" Anne said.

"I know what you mean," Wanda said with a smile, then she snapped her fingers as if she remembered something, "Oh yeah, speaking of jewels, my family's store has been having a jewelry sale since yesterday. Want to come?"

"Jewelry sale? Really? I'll go!" Anne said, her eyes wide as saucers.

"Okay, then come over on your way home," Wanda replied.

Dark Brotherhood Fortress

In the dark Fortress of the Brotherhood, their white-haired queen, Magneberyl, Sovereign of the Dark Brotherhood, addressed the multitude of members of the Dark Brotherhood from her throne, her voice amplified by the vibration of every metal surface in the room. This created a low, teeth-setting hum that filled the silence between her words.

"Have you still not found the Legendary Silver M'Kraan Crystal?" she challenged the multitude, from her metal throne.

Nobody answered from the multitude hiding in the shadows, knowing not to raise the wrath of their sovereign.

"We need a vast amount of energy to break the seal of our great ruler," she declared. "If you cannot obtain the Silver M'Kraan Crystal, then let us first give our ruler human life energy."

"My queen, will you leave that duty to me?" one of the members of the Brotherhood, a redhead male dressed in a flame-red uniform, stepped into the light. "My minion is already gathering human energy."

"Don't fail me, Pyrocite. Our plans for humans go beyond them as a source of energy." Magneberyl said.

"I won't, my lady."

Lehnsherr Jewelry store

The store, a cozy place in a corner beside an electronic store, was very crowded with clients and when they entered they could see a black haired sales assistant dressed in red and yellow, standing in the middle of the shop and carrying a megaphone announcing huge sales.

"Ah, hello, Wanda, and you must be Anne?" the sales assistant said, when she noticed them.

"Yeah, Pat, where's mom? I can't see her with all the ruckus." Wanda asked. "Anne, this is Pat Morgan, my mother's sales assistant."

"She's travelling again. She left me in charge of the store," Pat said, "So, do you want some jewels? We are having a great sale right now, as you can see."

"Yeah!" said Anne, while Wanda frowned.

"Wait a minute while I look in the back for something," Pat said.

"There is something off about this…" Wanda muttered.

Meanwhile, Pat slipped into the back room, and for just a moment, her smile stretched slightly further than a smile should.

Then, she felt more than she heard, a voice from the shadows.

"Plastorga, report!"

Then a man stepped from the shadows he had used to travel. The same man in red who had been talking with Magneberyl not too long before.

"Yes, General Pyrocite, I'm using the jewels to gather human energy to free our Great Ruler," she said, as she was picking a necklace.

"Good, Plastorga, good. With this we are one step closer to fulfilling our destiny," Pyrocite replied, his eyes gleaming with ambition and fanaticism, before stepping back into the shadows and disappearing as if by magic.

"Pat" returned to the store and looked for Wanda and Anne.

"Look at this necklace, I usually would sell it for a lot more, but you can have it for twenty-five dollars."

"TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS!" Anne screamed, attracting the attention of every shopper in the store.

There was a stampede of shoppers toward Pat pushing Wanda and Anne against the display cases. They fought their way to the door as best as they could.

"Ah can't buy it. Ah spent all my allowance this month," Anne said, slumped, "And Ah can't ask my dad or my mom because Ah failed the English test."

"Be strong, Anne," Wanda said.

"Are ya comin' with meh to the arcade?" Anne asked, as they stood at the door.

"Can't. There is something weird going on here," Wanda said, going back to the store.

Anne sighed, pulling out the test and looking at it.

'I should have studied more,' she thought, before crumpling it into a ball and throwing it behind her.

"Look what you're doing, boulette head!" she heard a male voice with a Cajun accent from behind.

"What? Oh, Ah'm sorry," Anne said, turning back, only to see a guy in sunglasses visibly flabbergasted, staring at the test.

"An F, mon dieu!" the guy said, "You should study harder, boulette head."

"It's none of your business!" Anne said, incensed, taking the test and storming off. "The nerve of that guy, calling me boulette head…"

The man shook his head and removed his sunglasses, revealing the black sclera and scarlet red pupils, fixed on Anne as she left the scene.

'There is something about that girl…'

He quickly slipped his glasses back on before anybody could see his eyes and guess what he was, and went back to look at the store.

Meanwhile, Anne checked the Arcade and saw that they were announcing the new Sailor M game.

"Awesome…but Ah'm still broke," she reminded herself, and said "Bettah to go home and face the music."

Tsukino residence

Anne tried to enter home inconspicuously through the back door, but her mom found her immediately.

"Oh, Ya're back. Ya're late," her mom said.

"Yeah, a bit," Anne said, trying to be nonchalant about the whole affair.

"Ah heard from Doug that ya got yar grades," her mom said, "And that he got an A."

"Yeah, amazing, isn't it?"

"What did ya get?" her mom said, a fixed smile on her face.

Seeing no escape from her situation, she handed over the test and cringed.
"An F!" her mom exploded. "Out of the house, out!"

Anne ran out of the house, the door almost slamming on her butt, and sat on the steps, knees pulled up, head resting on her arms. There she was still when she was found by her little brother Sammy.

"Got locked out of the house again, skunky Anne?"

"Ah'm gonna…" Anne went to kick her brother, but he ran inside the house, Anne barely stopping herself from kicking the door.

Anne sighed, wrapping her arms back around her knees. She didn't know how long she sat there before the door creaked open again.

"Anne, Ah've decided to let ya enter, but only if ya spend a couple hours in the library, studying!"

A bit more than two hours later

Anne left the library, and decided to check the Sailor M game at Crown Arcade. Besides, Cody Furuhata was quite easy on the eyes.

"Hi, Cody," she said, smiling broadly.

"Hi, Anne. Coming to play the Sailor M game?"

"Ah wish. Ah'm broke, and grounded," she said wistfully.

"Heya, Cody," a voice said.

"You!" Anne said, recognizing the voice and the Cajun accent.

"Bien, bien, bien, here it is mon ami the boulette head," the other man said.

"Have you met my friend Remy Chiba?" Cody said, surprised.

"Ya can say that!" Anne said, turning her back to the arrival so fast that she lost her balance and Cody caught her. What nobody noticed, except for a blue cat watching everything from a corner, was the glow of her hands when they made contact with Cody's bare skin.

Cody's knees immediately buckled and he started to fall. Remy immediately went to help him, while Anne let him go, looking at her hands.

'What the heck was that?' she thought. For a moment she knew everything about the Crown Arcade including how to run it.

"I feel so tired…" Cody said, as Remy and Anne helped him to sit in a chair.

While Remy cared for Cody, Anne looked at her hands confused.

"Ehm…Sorry, Ah have to go," Anne said, and disappeared through the door, Remy's suspicious eyes on her all the way, from his position beside Cody

Anne ran home. She didn't realize that the cat was effortlessly chasing her.

When she arrived home she went directly to her room, on the verge of tears. It was one thing to hear about mutants on the news, but to be one… She had absorbed Cody's memories when she had touched his bare skin, but later… when she had helped him in his chair…

Oh, of course, he had been protected by his sleeves. Gawd, she hoped that he was fine, and that she hadn't done anything permanent to him.

'What do Ah do now?' she thought.

She decided to sleep on it, perhaps everything would make sense later.

Meanwhile, on the Lehnsherr Jewelry Store

Wanda had made Pat promise to be more circumspect while she studied, but when she returned from her room in the apartment above, the shop was in the same chaos as before. And Wanda could swear that many of the same clients from the morning were still there.

Then the jewels began to glow ominously, and one by one the clients swooned and dropped unconscious to the floor as their life energy was drained.

She looked for Pat, who was still wearing those strange sunglasses. When she found her she was smiling widely, more widely than a human face should allow, and then turned her neck 180 degrees, while her entire body morphed into something inhumanly stretched.

"Pat…?" she said, already stepping back.

Her stretched face smirked as she reached for Wanda with one grotesquely distorted hand.

Meanwhile at the Tsukino's

Anne was ready for bed, but then she heard a news report.

"...Strange lights and sound seem to emanate from Lehnsherr Jewelry store…"

"Wanda! She is still in the store!" Anne said.

In her confusion she didn't notice that the cat had entered the room through the window.

"Anne," the cat called her.

But Anne was still focused on the news report.

"Anne," the cat called again, more forcefully.

Nothing.

"Are ye deaf, lass!?" the cat screamed in her Scottish accent.

Anne looked around and upon seeing the cat she did a double take.

"Ah must be hallucinating, a talkin' cat…"

"A talkin' cat just entered yer room, lass," the cat said, "My name is Moira."

"Ya really can talk!" Anne said.

"We have established that," Moira said, in a faintly aggravated tone, "I have something for ye."

She quickly jumped, did a quick spin and produced a golden brooch with a green gem and a series of smaller stones arranged to form an X.

"What is this? It's for meh?" Anne said, "But Ah don't have time for gifts, Wanda is in danger!"

"It's not a gift, Anne, it'll help ye to control yer mutant powers…"

"How do ya know mah name? And how do ya know that Ah'm a…" she lowered her voice and said, "...a mutant."

"I have been chasin' ye aw day," Moira said, "I saw what happened with Cody. Anyway, that brooch will be yer transformation trinket into the X-Senshi of the Moon."

"X-Senshi?"

"Look, do ye want to help yer friend or not?"

"Yeah!"

"Hold it up and repeat with me. Rogue Prism Power, Make Up!"

Anne did so, and after a strange sensation, as if her clothes dissolved and rewove themselves, under a lightshow that made her blink a few times, she stood there in a variant of a school uniform, only that it had a miniskirt, yellow gloves and boots and a tiara. The gloves attracted her attention, long opera gloves that reached beyond her elbow.

"Ye're Sailor Rogue, Mutant Champion of Justice," Moira said.

"Cool!" Sailor Rogue said, "Now, to the store. Ehm, can Ah fly or somethin'?"

"Aye, ye can fly, ye have super…" Moira started to say, but by that point, Sailor Rogue had already left through the window.

"Wait fer me!" Moira said, jumping behind her.

At the Lehnsherr Jewelry Store

Wanda had barely dodged Plastorga's attack, and now she was running for her life. She jumped over a comatose shopper, and ran between the jewelry stands, trying to avoid the grotesque arms of Plastorga.

Unfortunately, the monster was blocking the door, so she couldn't flee and soon enough Plastorga had her cornered.

"I can feel the power in you," Plastorga enigmatically said, reaching for Wanda, before the closed door of the shop opened violently, showering the inside of the shop with broken glass, and a figure stumbled inside, before rising, silhouetted against the full moon.

"Let her go, monster!" she said.

"Who are you?" Plastorga snarled.

"Ah'm the X-Senshi of Justice, Sailor Rogue. And in the name of the Moon Ah'll punish ya, Sugah!" she said, boldly, but inside she was about to freeze in fear.

"Sailor Rogue? I have never heard of you!" Plastorga said, "Attack her, my minions!"

The drained people rose up, their eyes glowing, and tried to attack Sailor Rogue. She swiftly dodged them by floating out of their reach, but that left her exposed, Plastorga snatched her out of the air, and threw her back into the fray.

Sailor Rogue kicked the ground accidentally, dropping some of the minions, she then started to stomp the ground, knocking everybody off their feet.

But that distracted her enough that she didn't see the punch that landed on her, sending her skidding across the floor. Plastorga had hit again.

"Ouch," she said, seriously winded.

Plastorga was almost over her when something appeared on the ground between them, a card. An Ace of spades with a rose on the back, soon followed by two more cards, the two of hearts and the three of clubs, all three charged with a glowing orange-ish energy. They exploded, sending Plastorga back, screeching in pain.

Sailor Rogue, Moira, and Plastorga looked in the direction those cards came from. They came from the large window of the store, near the ceiling. The large window was now open; on the ledge was a man. He was wearing a black tuxedo, top hat, boots, tie, and a black cape. A white mask covered his red eyes. The thumbs and two middle fingers were missing from the white gloves he was wearing. In his right hand was a bo staff.

"De name is Tuxedo Gambit...remember it!" he said.

Sailor Rogue pushed herself up, bracing herself on one knee.

"Don't let dis monster beat you, chere. Ya can win. Tuxedo Gambit believes in you, petit."

Sailor Rogue nodded and looked at Moira who finally had arrived at the store.

"The tiara…" Moira said.

'This is what you have to do…' a voice in her mind said, giving her instructions.

"Here goes nothin'," Sailor Rogue muttered to herself as she took her tiara and followed the instructions, holding out at eye level, charging it up with energy, and then throwing it toward the enemy, "MOON TIARA ACTION!"

Plastorga tried to flee, but the charged disc hit her fully.

"No..." were her last words, the sounds dissolving mid scream, before her body dissolved into grey dust, and then even the dust vanished.

Elsewhere, Pyrocite noticed that the energy flow had ceased.

"Plastorga, you screwed up, damn it!" he said.

Back in the shop

"Did Ah do that?" Sailor Rogue said as she put back on her tiara.

"Ya sure did, mon chere," Tuxedo Gambit said. "Remember: ya can do anythin' ya put yer mind to. See ya around, Petit!" With that, Tuxedo Gambit leaped out the window, and vanished into the night.

Sailor Rogue remained there, as if transfixed by what just had happened.

'He's just gorgeous,' she thought, while around her, the shoppers and Wanda regained their feet.

"Just who are you?" Wanda asked, which seemed to snap Sailor Rogue out of it.

"Ah'm Sailor Rogue, Mutant Champion of Justice. See ya around!" she said as she left the shop.

'Anne? Is that you?' Wanda thought.

Later, at the Tsukino's home

"What was that voice that spoke into mah mind?" Anne asked when everything had settled, and she was in her pajamas in her bed, having managed to sneak in before her mother checked on her.

"The most powerful telepath in the world. A colleague of mine, he is helping Sailor M," Moira explained.

"Really? The most powerful telepath in the world? That's a big claim, ya know," Anne said, arching an eyebrow.

"At least the most powerful telepath that I know," Moira conceded.

"Okay, and Sailor M? May I meet her some day?" Anne asked, hopefully.

"Probably not, but that's not for me to decide."

Chapter 2: Talk radio New
Chapter 2: Talk Radio

Dark Brotherhood Fortress

The throne room hummed louder than ever, while the rabble gave a wider berth than usual to the Queen, just in case.

"Pyrocite, what of the energy that we need?" Magneberyl said, looking extremely displeased with Pyrocite.

"Queen Magneberyl, please give us a little more time," Pyrocite said, apologetic, "Everything will go as planned."

"Is that so? It had better work this time," Magneberyl replied.

"Yes. We had some interruptions before in the energy flow, but I am personally supervising my minion Iviflau this time," Pyrocite said.

"Very well, it is all on your shoulders," Magneberyl said, "Keep that in mind."

"Yes, my lady."

Tsukino's home. Later that day

Anne had just come home from buying a few items, leggings and gloves. Moira had patiently explained that the brooch would nullify her absorption powers, as long as she kept wearing it, so Anne figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

After she did her homework, she changed into her pajamas and started to listen to the radio. The girls in her class had talked about "Midnight Zero", a new music program with a smooth talking DJ, P-Cyte.

Some time later, well into the night

She had to admit that the format was good, reading love letters from the listeners, and then playing music. Right now they were reading a letter.

"...My old diary was full of you. And my diary now is full of the past. I want to see you. I want to see you one more time. I want to tell you my true feelings."

"This was sent to us from Dreamer Patricia from the Crossroads borough," the voice of the DJ crooned through the waves, "and like all those whose letters are read, she has won a pretty flower brooch that makes love come true."

"Patricia… That's the birth name of Miss Sakurada! Nah, it couldn't be her, no way she could write a romantic letter."

Meanwhile at Ms. Sakurada's home, Ms. Patricia Sakurada was jumping excitedly in her pajamas whooping like a teenager, after her letter had been read.

Back at Anne's bedroom, Anne lay listening to the soft music playing from the radio when Moira entered from the window.

"Ya know, ah have never written a love letter before," Anne muttered.

"Are ye daft, lass? Tomorrow ye have classes, and ye still aren't in bed," Moira said, "Ye'll oversleep again."

"Okay, okay, no need to fuss ovah meh, Ah'll go to bed."

Next morning

Anne ran down the stairs, picked her lunch and vanished at top speed, surprising her parents who were sharing a quiet moment over coffee.

"What Ah'm gonna do, Ms. Sakurada is gonna scream at me again!" Anne said as she ran at top speed toward the school.

New Tokyo Crossroads Middle School

"Wanda, where is Ms. Sakurada?" Anne asked, after arriving and seeing that the teacher wasn't there yet.

"She hasn't arrived yet," Wanda replied.

"Lucky me," Anne said, exhaling in relief.

"Listen, Anne, there is something…" Wanda started to say when Ms. Sakurada arrived.

Her appearance was all wrong, dishevelled, sleepy, yawning on her way to her desk. The only thing neat about her appearance was a flower-shaped brooch.

She sat at her desk, and yawned.

"Today will be self-study," she said, before yawning again and dropping on the desk, asleep.

Not too long afterwards, when Ms. Sakurada was being removed, still sleeping, by the paramedics, the kids gossiped.

"Anne, what could be wrong with Ms. Sakurada?" one of the girls asked.

"Don't ask me. How would Ah know?" Anne replied, while Doug forced his way to the front line.

"Actually, there had been something in the news about a sleeping sickness," he said.

"That's an illness that Ah wouldn't mind catching," Anne said.

"Huh," Wanda said.

"That way, Ah could stay in mah dreams, forever and ever," Anne said.

"Never change, Anne," Wanda said, while thinking, 'Could it really be Anne? I was going to ask her before, but I'm doubting it again.'

The Radio Station. Office of the Director of the Station.

"Director, we got more letters addressed to Midnight Zero," one of his subordinates said, hauling a sack of letters.

"Again? Why do we get so many responses for a show that doesn't even exist?" the director said.

"What should we do?" the subordinate asked.

"Never mind, just put it away somewhere," the director said, dismissively.

The subordinate hauled away the sack of letters, grumbling, until he almost collided with a pretty redhead wearing a smart dress and a familiar brooch. The redhead looked at the letters and said, "I'll take care of those."

"Oh, really? Thank you," the subordinate said, grateful.

"No problem," the woman said with a smile, hauling the sack away as if it weighed nothing at all. Anyone looking closely at her green eyes would have seen something inhuman shining behind them.

On the way toward the Tsukino's home

"Oh, Wanda, ya listen to Midnight Zero too?" Anne asked, while walking through the busy streets of the Crossroads borough.

"Of course. I've sent them many love letters," Wanda said.

"Really? Who are they for?" Anne said.

"It doesn't matter," Wanda said, after a small pause, "You can just write it to your future boyfriend."

"That's a good idea. Ah didn't think of that. Mah future boyfriend," Anne said, distracted, so she didn't notice the pole in front of her.

"Ouch!" she said, upon crashing into the pole.

"Ah'm sorry, Ah wasn't paying attention," she excused herself, thinking she had collided with somebody.

"Anne!" Wanda said, trying to contain her laughter.

"That's good. Apologizing to de telephone pole," a nearby Remy Chiba said, "But it may be a problem if the warm weather is affecting ya head."

"What did ya say?" Anne replied before storming off.

"Hey, do you know that guy?" Wanda said after catching up to Anne, "He's gorgeous."

"He is not gorgeous!" Anne said, "He just ticks me off."

Anne's bedroom. Some time later

Anne was sitting at her desk before a stack of blank sheets, pen in hand.

"Okay, to my future boyfriend, to my future boyfriend…"

"Lass, a love letter doesn't mean much if…" Moira said.

"Shh… Ah'm thinking," Anne said, tapping her lips with the pen.

"Okay, okay."

"Future boyfriend. Future boyfriend…" Anne muttered, before throwing away the pen in frustration, "It's no use, Ah can't think of anything to say."

"Maybe…"

"Ah know! Ah'll go to the radio station and ask P-Cyte myself what Ah should write," Anne said, snapping her fingers, and departing the room.

"Wait fer me!" Moira said, "Lass and her daft ideas…"

Sometime later, they had reached the gate of the radio station where they were stopped by a guard.

"I tell you girl, we don't have a program called Midnight Zero," the gate guard said, "Now, go away."

Dejectedly Anne returned home.

Soft music was playing on the radio, while Moira and Anne looked at it.

"See, it's Midnight Zero. That guard must have been lying," Anne said.

"Dinna think so," Moira said, looking at the newspaper, "It should have a cooking show right now, according to this."

"It's a pirate radio station! Either that, or…" Anne said.

"Or what?"

"Ah don't know. Maybe they have hijacked the show or something."

At the radio station

All the night personnel were unconscious. In the radio room was Pyrocite; at the sound board, Iviflau.

"The first love letter we will read is from Wanda who lives in the Crossroads borough…"

Next morning, at middle school

Wanda arrived with a package delivered to her at home.

"Wow! That's the flower brooch?" one of the schoolgirls asked.

"Yeah, it arrived this morning," Wanda replied, beaming.

"Wanda, hurry up and open it!" Anne said.

"Okay!" Wanda said, opening it and revealing a familiar flower brooch.

"Wow. It's so pretty," the same schoolgirl as before said.

"Hey, that's the same as Ms. Sakurada's," Anne observed.

"Really?" Wanda said.

"So the letter that was from Dreaming Patricia was…" another of the schoolgirls, who was one of the regular listeners, said.

"The teacher's," the first schoolgirl completed.

"That's kind of strange," Anne said, but was immediately distracted by Wanda putting on the brooch, "Wow! How cute."

Suddenly Wanda started to feel tired.

"I'm… awfully… sleepy," she managed to say before falling asleep in place.

Elsewhere, Pyrocite felt an enormous rush of energy coming.

"All of this from one girl? We should have used this method before," he said, chuckling.

Meanwhile, back at class, while the other girls tried to awaken Wanda, Anne tried to remove the brooch from Wanda's blouse, but the only thing she managed by touching it while still glowing was to fall asleep on her own.

She was having a wonderful dream. She was flying through the night sky, and saw a figure in the distance.

"Oh, my Gawd, it's Tuxedo Gambit," she said.

Suddenly she got closer to Tuxedo Gambit.

"Could it be that ya're… my future boyfriend?" she said. 'I can't believe I said that,' she thought.

"It seems dat way, ma chere," Dream Tuxedo Gambit said.

'Oh my Gawd! Yay! Ah'm so happy!' she thought.

"Oh, Tuxedo Gambit, if ya're my boyfriend, show me ya face," she said.

"With pleasure, petit," Dream Tuxedo Gambit said, removing the mask to reveal…

Moira screaming in her face?!

"Wake up, ye daft lass!" she was saying, "Oh, good, ye're awake."

Anne found herself in the infirmary of the school and Wanda was on the other bed, asleep.

"I think this is connected to that radio station," Moira said.

"Ah think the same," Anne agreed.

Night, the radio station gate

The same gate from before, a different guard. It was curious how different things looked under the light of the day and under the light of the street lamps.

"Hey, Moira. How are we going to sneak in?" Anne said, eyeing the night guard from the corner, "The guard is going to stop us again."

"Dinna worry," Moira said, before making a quick spin in the air and dropping a pen.

"Huh? What's this pretty pen?" Anne asked, taking the pen.

"This is your new item," Moira explained, "If ye use that, ye can disguise yerself as different people."

"Really? How does it work?" Anne asked, looking at the pen.

"Just yell, 'Rogue Power!' and then whatever you want to transform to" Moira said.

"'Rogue Power.' Right, okay," Anne said, and holding the pen up high she said, "Rogue Power, make me into a beautiful newscaster!"

She felt the power go through her and her clothes, similar to her Sailor Rogue transformation, but different. For once the lightshow was less intense and the end result was different.

She found herself looking like an adult her, mid-neck length, frizzy hair, lipstick, a smart dress and high heels.

"Yay, Ah've transformed!" Anne said upon seeing herself in this guise.

"Did ye have to add the 'beautiful' part?" Moira plaintively asked.

"What's the point otherwise? Okay, Moira, we're going," she said, putting on sunglasses, and walking toward the gate.

"Got the attitude…" Moira started to say, when Anne tripped over her own feet, "...down."

Just outside Radio room

"That's P-Cyte? He looks so cool…" Anne said.

"What are ye saying? He's the enemy!" Moira said.

"Are ya sure?" Anne said, and Moira pointed to the sound board room where the technicians and people who should be working had fallen asleep.

"Oh! He's been taking over the program," Anne said, "Ya're right! Alright!"

She opened the door and strode purposefully into the recording room, confusing Iviflau.

"Hey, wait a minute!"

Anne ignored her and pushed Pyrocite from the mike, who reacted with surprise at being manhandled by a girl.

"Sorry to interrupt yar program, but this is an emergency news flash," Anne said on the mike, "We have learned that the flower brooches that have been sent from this show are very dangerous."

"Do not touch them if they are sent to ya!" Anne managed to say before Pyrocite tried to catch her.

"Now, Iviflau!" Pyrocite said.

"Yes, General Pyrocite," she replied before transforming into her monster form, a green-skinned red-haired creature dressed like a dryad.

"Now!" Moira said.

And Anne produced her brooch.

"Rogue Prism Power, Make Up!" she said, and she transformed into Sailor Rogue.

"X-Senshi of Justice, Sailor Rogue!" she said, "Trying to ruin girls' dreams of love is
abominable! In the name of the moon, I will punish you!"

"You're the one who keeps interfering with us," Pyrocite retorted.

"Then you must be their boss," Sailor Rogue said.

"My name is Pyrocite," he said before turning to Iviflau, "Get rid of her!"

"With pleasure!" Iviflau said before shooting a big beam of energy from her mouth at Sailor Rogue, who dodged the blast, but the hallway wasn't so lucky.

Sailor Rogue jumped through the newly made hole in the ceiling, but Iviflau promptly followed with more beams. Getting close to her was useless, as soon as she tried to do that, a new beam was coming.

"Use the Moon Tiara Action!" Moira screamed from the roof of the radio building.

"Okay!" She removed her Tiara, lined up with her eyes and started to aim. "Moon Tiara… Action!"

The tiara, transformed into a bolt of energy, went towards Iviflau who dodged it easily.

"Where are ye aiming?" Moira said, exasperated.

Sailor Rogue narrowed her eyes, and focused. The bolt changed direction, hitting Iviflau in the back, and she dissolved into plant matter that was dispersed by the wind.

When the tiara came back, Sailor Rogue turned and saw Pyrocite preparing a beam of fire at her.

"What? You want to fight me now?" she said, incredulously.

Pyrocite didn't answer, instead firing the blast of fire that she barely dodged, before she could aim the tiara again.

"Moon Tiara… Action!" she said, launching the tiara as best as she could, but Pyrocite managed to reflect that contemptuously with his flame shield, "No! You're kidding me!"

"Take that!" Pyrocite said as he launched another fire beam at Sailor Rogue.

"Watch out!" Moira said.

But it was no use, and despite her attempts to dodge it, she received it in full. Only her limited invulnerability saved her, despite feeling the heat in full.

"That hurts!" she said, her costume singed.

Pyrocite advanced toward her menacingly, but stopped himself when a glowing card with a rose on the reverse embedded itself in the roof.

"Need a hand?" Tuxedo Gambit said from a nearby roof.

Seeing himself outnumbered, Pyrocite opened a hole in space and vanished into it. Sailor Rogue turned to talk to Tuxedo Gambit, but he was already disappearing across the rooftops.

"Adieu, Sailor Rogue. We'll meet again."

"He's so dreamy," Sailor Rogue said.

All over New Tokyo

The people affected by the sleeping sickness: Ms. Sakurada, Wanda, and others started to wake up.

Meanwhile, some of the plant matter left behind by Iviflau had fallen in a truck that was leaving New Tokyo, which was briefly stopped by the police.

"Hmm…all correct. What are you carrying?"

"Gardening supplies to Kyotham City, why?"

"Just curious, you can go, come on."

Next day at New Tokyo Crossroads Middle School

Anne was scribbling furiously at her notebook, when Wanda came up behind her.

"What are you writing?"

"Ahm, nothing," Anne said, blushing and trying to hide it.

"Let me see…" Wanda said, taking the notebook, "It's a love letter! But Midnight Zero is no more."

"Ah don't care, Ah'll deliver it to him personally," Anne said, snatching her notebook back.

"Ms. Tsukino, come here, we still have to discuss your recovery test," Ms. Sakurada said from her desk.

"Yes, ma'am," Anne said, walking toward the teacher desk with a miserable expression.

Meanwhile at the Dark Brotherhood Fortress, Pyrocite section of the Fortress

"Well, for my next scheme we'll follow your plan, Emplatobe," Pyrocite said, "We'll drain the brain power of the smarter humans."

"Yes, my general," said Emplatobe, a tall female humanoid creature with spiky hair, red skin and black eyes, a respirator apparatus hung on her belt ready for when she had to leave the Fortress.

Chapter 3: Hard Lessons

Lehnsherr Jewelry Store

Mrs. Lehnsherr was in the store, open for the first time since the incident. And so far, it seemed that people were avoiding the store.

She sighed, before going to catalog the losses, surprisingly light for that kind of incident. But she hoped that the business would resume soon. She hated to dip into her other business to sustain her store.

She was distracted from the cataloguing by the sound of the bell. Somebody had entered the shop, she looked up to find a man, an older gentleman with salt and pepper hair and a thin moustache.

"Welcome to the Lehnsherr Jewelry Store. What can I do for you?" Mrs. Lehnsherr said.

"Mrs. Beryl Lehnsherr, I assume?" he asked.

"Yes? And you are?" Beryl said, now more guarded.

"Doctor Trask. I represent a number of people that are worried about incidents like the one that happened in your store."

"Oh? What do you mean, exactly?" Beryl said.

"We are worried about the destruction brought by mutants and their powers," Trask said, "If you let me…"

"Out." she said, incensed, pointing to the door.

"What? Why?"

"Because my father spent all his life with a number tattooed on his arm because of that kind of rhetoric!" Beryl said, barely keeping herself from screaming in Trask's face.

"We are not Nazis! People don't see the threat brought about by the mutants!" Trask screamed, before recovering his composure, "You'll see we are right, Mrs. Lehnsherr."

Beryl watched him go, her hands trembling, as she glanced at a family picture of a much younger Beryl with her parents.

Crystal Academy. New Tokyo

The professor, a tall, dark-skinned woman, was walking around the classroom checking on the students. She stopped behind a dark-haired, blue-eyed girl.

"You're doing very well," she said, smiling perhaps a bit too widely, "You sure put a lot of energy into your work!"

"Thank you, Ms. StCroix," answered the girl with a smile.

As Ms. StCroix, the teacher, returned to her desk, the girl's fingers moved rapidly over the keyboard.

Suddenly, the girl's hands started to glow. The sound of fireworks filled the air as the energy transferred from her hands to the computer. The girl fell to the floor with a scream as her monitor and CPU exploded.

The teacher and some of the other students rushed over to help her.

"Are you all right, Amy?" asked Ms. StCroix.

Amy Lee slowly rose to her feet. "Like, I think so," she said.

"She's a jinx!" cried another student. Soon, others joined in.

"That's enough, class!" exclaimed Ms. StCroix. Everyone returned to their seats.

"Are you sure you're all right?" asked the teacher.

"May I, like, be excused?" asked Amy. Just then the bell rang.

"Sure, in fact, you are all excused for the day!"

Amy Lee ran out of the classroom, down the hall and out the door. Tears streaked down her cheeks as she thought about what had just happened.

'What's happening to me?' she thought. 'First the VCR at home, now this! Like, I don't wanna be like this! What's my mom going to say, when she learns her daughter is a mutant… a freak?'

Anne's bedroom

Anne was studying when Moira entered through the window.

"Good girl. It's about time ye started studying," Moira said, walking behind her, "Ye have yer recovery tests tomorrow, with the mock tests."

"It must be nice to be a cat," Anne grumbled.

"What are ye talking about?" Moira said.

"Oh, Ah wish Ah could be a cat. Lazing around all day," Anne said, "What do you do all day, anyway?"

"Maybe ye don't know, but I've got lots to do, like finding the princess," Moira said, jumping onto the table, where she looked at what Anne was really reading, "Ye're reading a comic book."

"Media studies," Anne said lamely.

"Suuuure," Moira replied, "I wish ye would put more effort into finding the princess too."

"But…"

"Find the princess and fight against the enemy," Moira said, "That is yer mission as Sailor Rogue."

"What princess and who is the enemy anyway?"

"Evil mutants…and monsters, I think," Moira said. "And about the Princess… I'm not so sure myself, lass."

"Ya aren't the all-knowing cat guide you style yourself as?" Anne said, "And 'evil mutants'? What do you mean by that?"

"I'll tell ye a secret, kid. Adults most of the time make it as they go along," Moira said, "Evil mutants, well, ye saw Pyrocite. There are others like him."

Anne shivered nervously, remembering the battle with Pyrocite. If there were others like him…

That night. After Anne has fallen asleep

Moira entered the Crown Arcade through an open window in the locker room. From there she walked unerringly toward the Sailor M game, and after climbing to the cabinet, she pushed a combo of buttons that no regular gamer would have pushed accidentally, activating one of the hidden functions of the game cabinets.

She jumped onto the stool, waiting for the machine to activate.

"X Central Command…" she said to the arcade machine, "this is Moira… come in, X Central Command…"

The screen of the arcade machine came to life and said, ++This is X Central Command… please confirm identification with password and correct responses.++

"The password is: 'The cat who walks by herself at night.'"

++"Does kitty want chicken?"++

"'Kitty wants her tuna now!'"

++Voice print and identification confirm… Good evening, Moira.++

"Good evening. Why have ye contacted me?"

++Have you found the princess?++

"Not yet. I still have no clue where she is."

++I see.++

"Sailor Rogue is not as dependable as I thought she would be."

++I understand; do not grumble so.++

"Yes. By the way, I sensed a new and strange energy," Moira said, producing a picture from the same space where she had hidden the brooch and the pen, "This is her. I took the picture with an instant camera when she was leaving the school."

++It could be another monster sent by our enemy.++

"That's what I thought."

++Investigate her quickly.++

"Yes, I will."

The Next day, at school

Anne was, for once, on time.

"YEAH! Ah aced the recovery test!" Anne said upon seeing her grades, before going to see her mock test grades on a corridor. Unsurprisingly, they were still middling, but good enough.

What was a surprise was the name at the top of the grades, the new transfer student. Amy Lee.

"As expected, Amy Lee is at the top of the class," Doug said from behind her, "I hear that after class she goes to an academy for geniuses."

"And she gets straight A's on all her tests, and that she is a bit of a stuck-up…" another girl, Lucy, one of the former listeners of Midnight Zero, said.

"Sounds like a real brainiac to me," Anne commented a bit too loud, realizing too late that Amy was close enough to hear, and was looking at them with sad eyes. Amy sighed and walked away.

"Ah think she heard us," Anne said, guilt twisting her stomach.

Her immediate impulse was to run after her to ask for forgiveness, but the bell rang calling them to class.

Later, as she was walking home

"It must be nice being so smart," Anne said to herself, as she thought about Amy Lee.

As she turned a corner, she found Amy waiting at the bus stop where she usually took the bus.

"Amy Lee, right?"

"Yes?" she said warily.

"Look, Ah'm sorry for having called ya a brainiac in school, Ah was thoughtless and insulting," Anne said, not noticing Moira observing Amy from a nearby tree.

"Okay…" Amy started to say, when Moira dropped onto Amy's shoulders.

"Oh, a cat," Amy said, reaching out to rub Moira's chin, and she began to purr.

"Moira!" Anne said, while thinking, 'What the heck is she doin'?'

"It's your cat?" Amy said, "I wish I could have a cat, but living in a high-rise apartment is impossible."

"Yeah, Moira, come here!" Anne said, and Moira jumped from Amy's shoulders onto the sidewalk, "Say, do you want to come to the Arcade?"

"There is an arcade? Cool, there, like, used to be one in the mall close to my old school," Amy said excitedly.

Crown arcade

"Gawddamnit," Anne said as she lost her last life in the Sailor M game, "Ah'm off mah game today."

"Can I try? The game looks fun," Amy said.

"Be my guest," Anne said, vacating the seat for Amy.

Amy sat down, slid a quarter in the machine and started to play. Soon, she was in the zone, playing the game passing stage after stage without losing a single life.

Soon, a gaggle of onlookers had gathered around them.

"She's mah friend," Anne said.

Suddenly Amy stopped, looking at her wristwatch and said, "Oh, no, look at the time, I'm late for Crystal Academy!"

She managed to go through the gaggle of disappointed onlookers, but dropped several things. Anne helped her to recover what she could.

"Oh, thanks," Amy said, "But I have to go, see you later?"

"Sure, yeah, love to," Anne said, as Amy left.

After Amy left, Cody was waiting nearby.

"Hello, Anne," Cody said, giving her a CD with a printed label, "Listen, your friend dropped a disc. It fell all the way to my booth."

Crystal Academy

Amy was sitting at her new computer, looking through her things.

"I must, like, have lost the disc at the arcade," she muttered, as she sifted through her things, "Well, I didn't use it much anyway, it gave me a headache."

She turned on the computer and was waiting for it to boot when Ms. StCroix chose that moment to look over Amy's shoulder.

"Miss Lee, use the Crystal Disc and study hard," she said, "You're on a scholarship, so you mustn't be lazy."

"Yes, Ma'am," Amy said, while hiding that she had lost it.

"I have high expectations of you," Ms. StCroix said before leaving.

Amy let out a sigh of relief that her little charade hadn't been discovered.

At the door of the Crystal Academy

Anne was waiting at the door of the Academy for Amy to get out to give back the disc. But she couldn't avoid reading the label.

"'If you use our newly developed Crystal Discs, even you can be a genius!'" Anne read. "So, is this the famous Crystal Disc from Crystal Academy?"

"Anne, be careful," Moira said.

"Ah'm just going to return this disc. Ya worry too much," Anne replied.

Their discussion was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Are ya finally in the mood to study a little, boulette head?"

Anne turned, and here he was, the bane of her existence, Remy Chiba.

"Ya again! Why do ya always show up at the weirdest times?!" Anne said, incensed.

"Dat's not my problem, ma chere," Remy said, "By the way, why were you talking with dat cat?"

"Are you kiddin'? Cats can't talk," Anne said, trying to laugh as if the whole notion was absurd, "Ya're so silly!"

And then she retreated hastily, feeling Remy's sunglasses-covered eyes on her the whole way.

They didn't stop running until they were well out of his sight.

"That was so close. It'd be a big problem if he found out," Moira said.

"Ya think?" Anne said, and then noticed that she still had the CD in her hands, "Oh, Ah was in a hurry and forgot to return this. It's all his fault!"

"Anne, let's go to the computer lab at school," Moira said.

"Why?"

"I want to check out that disc."

"Ya think this is suspicious?" Anne said, "Ah'll just warn ya now. Ah don't know how to use a computer."

New Tokyo Crossroads Middle School

"Moira, ya are something!" Anne said admiringly when Moira started to use the computer as if nothing was wrong.

"Knowing how to use a computer is normal these days, Anne," Moira said.

"Oh, really?" Anne said, skeptically.

"Look! I thought so," Moira said, triumphantly.

At first sight the program that had loaded on screen looked like the usual database program, but there was a screeching noise in the background…

"Oh, no! What is this sound?!" Anne said as Moira worked to find the source of the noise. Finally the cat found it, and after some processing…

"Offer the energy of your brain and knowledge to our great ruler, and become our loyal followers."

"This is a brainwashing program!" Moira said.

"And become our loyal followers." The message looped.

"It can't be!" Anne said.

"So, that girl is a monster!" Moira concluded.

"Amy? Are ya sure of that?" Anne said.

Crystal Academy Door

"Ah still can't believe that Amy is the monster," Anne said.

"She had the disc. There is no other explanation," Moira replied.

"And Ah still think ya're jumping to conclusions," Anne replied, "Anyway something seriously hinky is going on at that Academy."

"Transform into something, so we can infiltrate it," Moira said.

"Rogue Power, turn me into a cool doctor that works in the University Hospital."

She turned into a woman in her mid-20s, with short hair, a bland beige outfit, and a white lab coat over it.

She quickly ran into the classroom, and saw that it was full of people in front of the computers.

"Everyone, get away from the computers right now!" she said.

Everybody turned to look at her slowly, looking like zombies, except for Amy.

"Who are you?! Don't interrupt our studies!" Amy said.

"It's true, then? Amy, do you work for…?"

Suddenly Amy gasped as she was grabbed from behind by Ms. StCroix.

"Who the heck are you?" Anne asked.

Ms. StCroix smiled sinisterly before transforming into a tall female humanoid creature with spiky hair, red skin and black eyes, a respirator mask covering her face.

"What are you?" Amy asked.

"I am Emplatobe!" she finally said, "And this genius girl will sacrifice her brain power for our Great Ruler."

"Which means Amy isn't a monster at all," Anne said, "Rogue Prism Power, Make Up!"

"Sailor Rogue, X-Senshi of Justice!" she said, after the transformation.

"Pyrocite will give me a great reward for your death!" Emplatobe said, throwing exams like ninja stars toward Sailor Rogue.

Sailor Rogue dodged on reflex. She was glad she had — the papers had punched into the wall behind her and stuck fast, as if they weren't made of paper at all.

Meanwhile, Emplatobe shoved Amy's face against the computer.

"Why is there no draining?" she said, "You aren't using the disc, are you?"

"You should study on your own without using machines!" Amy said, putting her hands on the computer and calling on her powers voluntarily for the first time.

And they responded.

The computer exploded, launching Amy and Emplatobe in two different directions.

Sailor Rogue used the opportunity to get up and try to approach them but Emplatobe was quick on her feet.

"Attack!" she said, and the zombified students rose up from their computers and surrounded Sailor Rogue.

The ceiling was too low to fly out of their reach, so she was limited to manhandling them one by one with her super strength. It wouldn't distract her long, but enough.

"Like I always say, if you want something well done, you have to do it yourself," Emplatobe said, approaching Amy, who was trying to get up, her extended hand opening into a mouth full of teeth, a long tongue lolling free.

Amy, barely on her feet, gasped in fright, but then closed her mouth in resolve. She then launched a fireworks attack on Emplatobe and a strange sign glowed on her forehead.

"I'll be damned," said Moira, who had been watching everything, hidden in a nook of the classroom, "She is an X-Senshi! Lucky me, I came prepared."

She produced a transformation pen from wherever she kept her things and appeared in front of Amy while Emplatobe was distracted with Sailor Rogue, who had managed to get rid of the zombies quickly.

"Take this if ye want to live!" Moira said.

"You can, like, talk?" Amy asked.

"Yeah, but that's not important right now. Hold it up high, and say 'Jubilee Power!' The rest will come from yer heart,"

"Jubilee Power! Make Up!" she said.

She transformed on the spot. She was wearing a uniform similar to Sailor Rogue, just with a lighter blue skirt, blue boots and gloves, and sky blue ribbons.

"Sailor Jubilee! X-Senshi of Wisdom!" she said.

"Hold it right there, monster!" Sailor Jubilee said. "In the name of the planet Mercury… I will punish you!"

"Too bad it's going to be a short career for you!" said Emplatobe as she threw a flurry of exams at her.

Sailor Jubilee dodged them and said, "No way! I'm not afraid of you, or my powers any more!"

The sound of fireworks filled the air as sparks flew from Sailor Jubilee's fingertips, striking Emplatobe, holding her for a moment.

The moment that Sailor Rogue needed.

"Moon Tiara… Action!" she shouted, launching the tiara toward the monster and disintegrating her.

With this the zombified students started to return to their normal state.

"Everyone is okay now!" Sailor Rogue said.

"I…" Sailor Jubilee trailed off.

"Yes, ye're the second X-Senshi, Sailor Jubilee," Moira said.

"Sailor Jubilee! Welcome to the team!" Sailor Rogue said.
