• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Security of TikTok embeds

Also, I kinda doubt that China or Russia or the 5E would waste something like a zero day exploit bad enough to install malware via browser as part of a way to track a few randos on a site like this.

My last 2-3 messages were targeted at you.
Correct, and as I said, you've been confusing me with someone else.

Ok, can you be a bit less pushy and sanctimonious about it?

That's how I'd be if I were engaging in conversation with someone who participated in good faith, and could understand and acknowledge the validity of my points (even if they valued things differently).

But here I am, stuck with you instead. You started out both rude and wrong. So I felt no particular obligation to be gentle with your brittle, ugly feelings.

You're offering negative insight, and mocking you is feeble sport. Again: please just go away.

Same to you, bye.

Bye.

Anyway, back to actual on-topic content.

Another XF2 site with media embeds shows why they're often zero value:

If you're logged in, I guess you can see it, and someone on SB might not mind Google watching them read a story? But I'd prefer to not have anyone looking over my shoulder even on SB, and definitely not on QQ.

Age restricted videos do not play off-site regardless of if you're signed in to YouTube or not. It's not tracking you to do that, it's just not allowing the video to be embedded.

It's interesting that the age-restricted content will never play even if you've got an account and are signed in -- that means the embed is just a larger URL which you click to open the content in a new tab? (Except with tracking and fingerprinting and whatever other social-media sleaze they can push in.)

The tracking is presumably separate, just part of the iframe that happens whenever the embedded element is displayed. Not that the age-requirement is limited by tracking.

Have people thought about, I don't know NOT browsing sites with NSFW content at the office or other public places?

Just a silly little idea I have.

I mean, if the itch is that massive, you can just duck into the bathroom and check it on your phone, just tell em you ate the extra hot chilly or you have a weak bladder if they ask.

Although there was one set of assholes pre-COV that had made sure the toilet had awful reception on purpose.

Also, most browsers have toggles telling them not to not auroplay stuff.

Why are we talking about YouTube and Twitter when this thread is specifically about TikTok, again?
