This is a near-future Exalted quest, but it isn't the Exalted Modern in Shards. This is Exalted in Deus Ex.

It used to be that anyone you saw walking down the street was exactly what they looked like. A man was a man, a woman a woman, and everyone had a time and a place to die. Everyone had the same human limits that everyone else did.

Oh, some people were smarter, or stronger, or faster, but that was a byproduct of genetics and how they were raised, and the great browning of nations was sorting that out too.

The twenty-first century changed everything.

When you walked down the street now there are humans that barely were humans in amongst the rest, more machine than man, but they're only the most obvious cases of divergence. Through the efforts of UNATCO, the United Nations Anti-Terrorism Coalition, a world-spanning combination of old defense treaties, national security agencies, and civilian agencies, you were selected. You were enlightened.

The stories you heard about people gifted with vast power by mysterious benefactors, changed to be somehow more than they were that are whispered in the subway, derided on television, that are everywhere online?

All of them are true.

After all, you're one of them.

Nano-augmentations are mutually exclusive. The Terrestrial Exalation would burn them out.

More raw power, and reliable to boot? Even if at the expense of versatility, it sounds like we'll be part of an organization. We can just take jobs fitting our skill selection.

I will note that Deus Ex is famous for lovely little things like kill switches and broadcast disables. Bioware means someone's going to have to hit us with a retrovirus or something to really fuck us up (which is totally in setting too) but at least we can't get shut off with a fucking one-liner.

As to your job, you work for UNATCO at the moment, and you hunt terrorists. That can change, though.
