Has anyone played or followed the development of Scorn? This recent release hasn't been especially smooth, particularly if the official steam descriptions are as dishonest as I've heard. I've seen people on its subreddit mention eight years of development. It is an M-rated horror/walking-sim/puzzle game with explicit sexual imagery. H. R. Giger was a major influence. Apparently the Scorn art book contains a great deal of debatably essential info. I'm no judge on whether the amount of backtracking was problematic or not.

It looks to me like the final act suffered the most. The visuals are still top notch, but an extremely promising mechanic is only utilized for a few minutes of gameplay. I'd say the surprise at the end is completely unsurprising for such a thoroughly bleak setting.

I heard it was really, really short as in it only takes two hours to beat. Given the game costs $35 that makes it not really worth buying to me even if it does appeal to me. That you need the artbook to understand the understand a lot of the actual setting also sucks. I'd say that from an outside perspective having not played the game yet that they really dropped the ball. Yes, it looks nice but the gameplay seems to be severely lacking.
 
So, looks like there's a contender... "RPG Developer Bakin" is challenging RPGMaker's uncontested throne, from the looks of it.

It does have 3d maps, which I don't think even the latest RPGMaker does, and the UI looks cleaner than I recall. The map maker looks better from the video, at least.

But they made a weird choice, IMO, by going with 2d sprites despite the 3d maps. I know they're easier to custom-make for amateurs (though I use 'easier' lightly) but with all the 3d character creators out there in various games, you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to go full 3d?

It'd at least fully divorce them from RPGMaker if they had. Maybe they're planning on the same 'every few years' release though, and decided to save that for the next one. Dunno.
 
Watched a review for Gotham Knights and it seems to be... Okay. Kind of a 7/10ish wait for a sale type of game that coulda been better with some more focused gameplay and less grind. Also it needs a performance mode because always on ray tracing and shiz means they capped it at 30fps.

Yea, SkillUp's review said pretty much the same thing.
 
For Persona 5 Royal, is there anything I should know before the game unlocks tomorrow?

I sorta know how to access the third semester, but aside from that.

I'm planning to mainly grinding my social stats for my first playthrough as well as two or three Confidants before going all in on confidants in NG+.

Royal makes it significantly easier to grind stats, especially early game, so do so when you can. You can dual grind guts and knowledge by studying in the school library until after the first boss. It is always in your best interest to finish a palace ASAP so you don't have the risk of failing due to deadlines, especially if you want to focus on grinding stats and confidants. The Party Members are all important confidants to level but not necessarily finish on your first playthrough. They give good combat bonuses but the Temperance, Moon, Sun, and Hierophant grant really good bonuses. Temperance especially lets you go out at night after you've done a day in the dungeon. Moon gives EXP bonuses all the way through. Maxed Sun lets you use Persona higher than your level. Hierophant lets you make your own HP and SP restoration items. Max out Justice, Faith, and Councilor as much as you can ASAP.
 
so a question, with Persona 5 royal out, should I wait until I finally beat p4 golden or just jump right in? really new to the series so I got no real feelings either way.
 
Persona 4 & 5 are separate stories, so don't worry about missing plot elements from the last game.
 
P5R is better than P4G in almost every relevant metric. Better dungeons, better QoL stuff, better graphics. I'd recommend finishing P4G first since after P5R going back to P4G would feel like a huge downgrade.

P5 gameplay feels a lot better than P4 in pretty much ever way, but that's to be expected with nearly a decade between them. For one the main story levels are no longer randomly generated. There's still a randomly generated dungeon you need to go through though. Shuffle time is gone and negotiations are back (Which was a plus for me cause I hated Shuffle Time), and talking to demons is child's play compared to mainline since the game tells you the demons disposition to help you pick the best answers. Royal even has more customization of weapons and Personae than vanilla did. P4G will feel like a slog when you go back to it, but you definitely can.
 
For the final boss of the second palace in Persona 5 Royal, what level should I be before fighting him? I've found three different answers in as many places, so I figured I best check here as well.
 
Madarame? Uh, check whatever level the network says the average is and that should be good. Should be around 19-20? Not sure if it even matters, the free DLC personas can trivialize everything if you use them.

I don't want to trivialize it yet, that's for a special 'feel good' run.

As for the level, I could grind up a level or two.
 
Are you done with everything except for the calling card? If you still have to go through the palace, then that should easily bump you up a few levels.

Yeah, by the time you get to the boss you should be around level 20, give or take about 3 levels. 17-23 is the comfortable range of challenge. The gimmick of that fight is annoying at any level, but it's not a huge problem if you're not under leveled.

I found the first part of the fight to be the hard part, the eyes kept reviving everything, but the second part was a joke because my Kaguya.

Edit: Does the Sun Confidant, Tora, automatically level up each time you go to him? I swear I read that somewhere but I can't find it.

I know it did in vanilla, but it's been long enough since I played Royal that I don't remember if they changed that or not. Considering he's only available once a week, and not on rainy days, they might not have.

Not seeing any difference between Royal and vanilla on this.
