Video Games General

AOE1 is probably still the king of the series in this respect. Its history blurbs for each campaign scenario were extensive.
That they were. The instructions and defeat text would be given "in character" so to speak whilst the history blurb would be out of character and long. Helps that they weren't voiced so there wasn't much concern about word count. Now the exact missions wouldn't be historical or realistic (or for that matter easy *shudders in memories of Babylon campaign*) but they'd at least tell you what they were referring to and had a lot of detail about both the history of the campaign and of the technology behind the units as well in the manual.

Whatever seems decent, preferably with some game play to break up dialog or some decent lewding.
Sengoku Rance, Utawarerumono, & Kamidori Alchemy Meister are pretty much the gold standard for VN's with gameplay. Bunny Black 1+2 aren't bad either. As for personal favorites of mine: Saya no Uta Chaos;Head, Cross Channel, G-senjou no Maou, Kikokugai – The Cyber Slayer, Majikoi, Majikoi S, Sweetest Monster, School Days HQ, Shiny Days, Deus Machina Demonbane, Violated Heroine 1+2+3

Is muv luv any decent? I've never been to into VN but I heard it's pretty good so I figued I'll ask while it's on sale
Extremely good, but the first VN in the trilogy, Extra, can be a bit of a chore to get through depending on how you like the more standard type of VNs where you pick which girl you want to romance, and eventually do a route focused on a specific one depending on your choices. If you don't like it, you only really need to do one of the routes for the two main girls, which should only take a couple hours, and then you can move onto the much better Unlimited and Alternative.

Edit: ah yea, they will take awhile to finish. Unlimited is like a little over 20 hours i think?, and Alt's around 55.

I still think the Wii Port is the best port even after all these years. The pinpoint accuracy you can get with the Wiimote surpasses even PC, and the graphics while not touched up like it's later ports are still solid.

As others already mentioned it's a great series but it is long one when you want to get trough entire trilogy.

Extra plays out like a generic High School romance comedy VN. A little generic however I think it's necessary to experience if you want to get full experience of Takeru adventure in the sequels. There also lot of foreshadowing scattered allover the place that you can find out if you re read the Extra.

I highly recommend it. But please remember that it is a Visual Novel in more traditional sense of this term. It is a book/mamga with visuals and audio not a game like Fire Emblem were VN ascetic is used during conversations + lewds.

Any recs in that case?

In addition to ones that were already recommended I want to suggest you give a try to Katawa Shoujo.

It's a fanmade project by some mad lads and ladies from 4chan. It's completely free. It is a VN without gameplay but it is great slice of life story. If you

But I can also recommend you one with gameplay that just today gor and English release, Dohna Dohna

Very colorful, fun game by Alice-Soft.

Huh, that's an interesting premise. A city run by a Megacorp with street gangs that kidnap people off the streets and then pimp them out.

... This is different from any cyberpunk series?
Hmm, I know it's not the same thing at all, but your description gave me an idea. There was this flashgame on newgrounds where you founded a colony and had to grow it via trade and suchlike. The neat part was watching the town grow with houses, inns, mines, smeltings, and more. A similiar thing could be done with this Cyberpunk game of yours where you have a view of a pixel-art street and one of your prostitutes. As the game continues, you get more prostitutes and eventually houses, discos, clubs, and bars. Throw in some obstacles like inspectors and gangs looking to take over, and you have a solid foundation for a cyberpunk pimp simulator.

Stop being a dumbass. Yes, you can be anything you want in a Tabletop RPG provided the GM and other players are fine with it. I'm however clearly referring to a videogames or a VN with gameplay as it stands.

I mean... you never actually specified where you play as that type of thing in the original post.

Normally I'd be excited but I already had my fair share of gundam games and would just stick to that. Plus taking one look at the characters and I instantly want to laugh. Zeon waifu team. That takes me back to the time there was this manga of another MS team full of waifus that sortied in the 12 doms and got slaughtered by Amuro in the fleet Conscon was in.

Zeon propaganda with their Girl Unz Zaku.

I'd rather just play the game cube emulator or older consoles. The battle operation's controls are too clunky.

I've seen that. A tad too cute for something supposed to be set in the 1 year war but eh. Seems to be an addon to the existing battlefield operation multiplayer game, I suppose it was lacking a single player story and this does have the benefit of not having to come up with a new canon character or risk fucking up an existing one if the game or story turns out to be bad.

Honestly I'm not too keen on the gameplay of it with a controller. Feels too clunky when I tried it out and just stuck around a bit for the free lootboxes.

I wouldn't know, I don't really have a playstation so I just watched gameplay of it. While it was nice to see MS like the Zudah or the like pop up the gameplay did kinda strike me as not something I would enjoy.

Sooo, it's a game about a bunch of cute waifus on the wrong end of a Gundam? Surely, they'll be fine. :V

Oh damn, now I'm thinking of that PS2 game where you played as some Zeon guys. There was a fun (read painful) night mission where you had to sneak around outside White Base and gather intel on it and their mobile suits. If you got caught, Amuro would come out and kill all of you. Good times.

I can see this turning Thunderbolt levels of dark real fast.
