Professor Black: "In my day, we just turned the students loose on the country side. There were entire Goblin Rebellions ruthlessly put down solely by unpaid school children! This Voldemort boy and his little friends would have been eaten alive if they tried their nonsense under my administration."

Professor Black: "And I'm not entirely being metaphorical."

Professor Black: "Look at what Dippet and Dumbledore made of it. Hmph! Spare the rod indeed!"

I definitely should get AI for that.

Professor Black in the portrait telling students how to chain cast spells to kill large groups

Medieval times must have been roving bands of murderhobos

the reason there are so few wizards is because of how often they mass genocide each other since killing muggles and goblins gets boring

It's stuff like this that makes the Triwizard Tournament even funnier in retrospect.

Chronologically, it was canceled something like a hundred years prior to Hogwarts Legacy because too many people died.

I can only assume this meant that the Tournament ended up killing all the competitors thus ending in a draw or at least two champions died leaving the third to win by default long before the Third Task.

Or possibly spill out into the crowds and kill a lot of people that way.

I think "Champions died too early too often" is more likely though. Nothing worse than a tournament having to get called off for lack of competitors multiple times in a row.

they probably had either 2 die in round 1 or all died during the same round

So is it like gladiator tournaments for wizards back in the day while other wizards watch pay per view as someone gets injured or killed?

Three of the judges were injured when a cockatrice went on a rampage.

https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Triwizard_Tournament

The Triwizard Tournament was held in 1792, and one of the tasks involved catching a cockatrice. However, the beast went on a rampage and injured three of the judges, the Heads of Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. The event was recorded in the book Hogwarts, A History, indicating that the 1792 Tournament was possibly held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Tournament was cancelled after this incident, but several unsuccessful attempts were made to resurrect it.

New gaming peripheral: Game Scent

First thought: "Why would anyone want that!?"

I mean, if we ever hit the tech for the kind of VR we dream about it'll be a useful sense, but this thing... not really. Especially considering it uses audio and AI to determine what it should smell like.

But even if it did work perfectly, thinking about the kind of smells most games would involve... Eugh.

As we are almost one week away from Unicorn Overlord release, I have a sudden growing concern as I remember one race in the game.

Without turning the discussion NSFW, how concerned should I be for a possible wave of furry porn in the near future?

Depends on how successful/popular the game turns out, I suppose. As the better known a property is, the higher the chance fanart is made, and thus furry art. But given you got not one, not two, but three races (assuming the axe lion and what looks like a she-wolf in front of him are separate races, not just extreme sexual dimorphism again) in that game that qualify as "furry", there might be more of a hook there.

It probably won't suddenly explode and swamp your feeds, but if you look for porn of the game chances are rather high you will run into furry stuff.

...then again, there's also furry art of Helldivers, despite the overlap being basically non-existent, so who knows?

I mean, its Vanillaware, the art is gorgeous enough to get porn pretty readily.

With a week before release I surprised that there isn't any furry porn already. Artists normally start churning out the smut shortly after game announcement if there's even one character that hints a kink.

I've checked, and there is some stuff, but it's in the lower single-digits, three or five images on R34, with only e621 edging things out with a whopping seven.

So, yeah, there's not much.

I can second that Unicorn Overlord demo being good. I mean, its Vanillaware so I was going to like it anyway, but hot damn is it good.
