With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Hehe, can't wait to see how Greek pantheon grows and updates with new leader at helm. Makes me wonder if Paul shouldn't be offering this service to other pantheons as well in general. We know Odin isn't against technological developments after all.

Now though Paul needs to help Cap fix powers and likely visit wizard himself at his house. That will be a neat convo since likely has lots of thoughts on changing world in general.

SHAZAM to SHAHAM to HAMSAH

Probably not the route that'll happen but it works elegantly.

"Sure. They're still trapped by the nature of Tartarus and the Hekatonkheires can keep an eye on things.
At least he isn't trying to argue that they don't need containing.

Wonder how annoyed Hekate is about not getting her fee?

Every significant figure in our mythos will have to maintain their domain and encourage proselytism or get replaced like a broken part.
Paul is due for another 'discussion' with his Christian collogues I see.

We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
-
"Bitch."
Another Zeus move from the new ruler of Olympus.

"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"
Suspected that might happen, but didn't expect Paul to become aware of it so soon.

As someone who grew with those myths i love your interpretation. My people still love their Old Gods (most of us don t worship them but we keep them close to heart). And though for us, the myths about zeus and most of them being dicks are considered more of a dirty past time of our ancestors than "canon" (not that a canon exist), you really did a good job. Love your Hephaestus. Funny thing , i leave near one of his old temples and i thing i might pass tonight to leave an offering

Look, if Aphrodite had gone and boinked some random bloke who didn't know, I'd agree Heph's punishment of the guy was way out of line (I mean, the he's not Hera).

But Ares knew exactly what he was doing, and what it would do to Heph. And the implication is that's part of why Ares did it. There wasn't even an attempt to be discreet about it.

I've been a situation where my ex kissed my brother. I found it amusing, as there was no intent on either side (twin brother, wasn't pretending to be me, just mistaken identity).

In the situation with Ares and Aphrodite, there was intent on *both* sides. Heph isn't punishing Ares for Aphrodite's perceived sins against Heph, he's punishing Ares for what Ares did, and knew he was doing, and did anyway.

"Diana, I'm a Lantern, not a miracle worker. He's still alive, but he's not in charge of Olympus any longer which means that you're out."
I'd argue the not being a miracle worker to a point, sure he has limits but he's accomplished some miraculous stuff.

And there's the door. Diana and I push through to see Hephaestaean completing his divine cybermancy on Akhlys, mechadendrites whirring and clicking as they replace weak flesh with elegant machinery. She… Her gold-tinted flesh glows as the implanted arcane circuitry twists her nature to reflect the technological improvements humanity has made to medicine and healthcare since the days of Ancient Greece. Her robotic eyes shift and focus, taking in her new body.

Hephaestaean points to her left hand.

"As you can see, I focused your aura of ill-health through your left hand. You'll need to discharge it once a month of so, but you can do that ritually rather than by personal contact."
The goddess of misery no longer needs to suffer, nice.

"Wise of you. In that case, continue your mission as Wonder Woman with my blessing. I'll put some new armour together for you once I have the free time; my capacities now are far in advance of what they used to be."

"If I may ask, what plans do you have now that you rule Olympus?"

"I intend to modernise. Every significant figure in our mythos will have to maintain their domain and encourage proselytism or get replaced like a broken part."
Offers real support to Diana, trying to get the Olympians to get caught up with the times and while I for one don't really like the idea of proselytism it does make sense that he's trying to restore the religion of the Olympian gods. Yeah, much better king than Zeus.

"Technically, yes. But you're doing a fine job, Uncle, and Thana is already trying to convert people at your instruction. I would appreciate you giving me a full briefing, but I fully expect to find that you are the most engaged of our people."
I should say so, Hades has just about always been one of the more responsible deities in Greek mythology.

"I declare us to be divorced. We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
She's in for a nasty surprise.

"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"
Oops. Paul had better start thinking of a possible solution to this problem. After all, you break it you buy it.

The petals are sucked in towards her, vanishing as she does.
And an old correction: I'm pretty sure the comma in there should be a period, but maybe it's something else.
Thank you, corrected.
Another Zeus move from the new ruler of Olympus.
No, Zeus was the one who did the adultery. Hephaestaean was the wronged party, as was his mother.

Zeus had aspects other than being an adulterer. Petty vengeance and eternal punishments are very much parts of his brand, and ones that Hephaestaean is embracing wholeheartedly.

ehe, can't wait to see how Greek pantheon grows and updates with new leader at helm.

I'm kinda imagining Heph turning the other gods into cyborgs to better help them adapt to the modern world.

I can see Aphrodite somehow running several dating apps that better help people find their true love.

At least he isn't trying to argue that they don't need containing.

Wonder how annoyed Hekate is about not getting her fee?

She may not be since the possibility of them getting paroled still exists with the new leader.

Paul is due for another 'discussion' with his Christian collogues I see.

No, I don't think hat's going to happen since most of his colleagues aren't Christian, or at least aren't that into their faith.

Another Zeus move from the new ruler of Olympus.

Not really.

Zeus would have probably raped and beaten her.

I'm a bit surprised that she isn't enlightened in Love.

Aphrodite always seemed to be more about desire than love.

Zeus had aspects other than being an adulterer

Yes, he was also a rapist and a tyrant.

Petty vengeance and eternal punishments are very much parts of his brand, and ones that Hephaestaean is embracing wholeheartedly.

I'd say that his methods and his reasons for doing them are far removed from Zeus since he didn't condemn a guy to eternal torment for helping humanity and he actually gave his father a chance to potentially return to the fold.

And the only eternal punishment given could be the one that Ares got, and even then it may not be fully permanent seeing as he's a god, so he may potentially be able to regenerate.

Is this a DC character, because Achlys, who's possibly a Thessalian witch, seems to represent the... Sorrow over death, is probably a description.

Frankly, there isn't much of a consistent description for who or what she is, besides very much not a happy fun time person. Well, her backstory is more consistent than Donna Troy's at least.

Thought those were different powers than Greek mythology.

NO! Not another thing to immediately distract OL from searching for Constantine! I'm starting to thing John's in real danger with how crazy powerful these "coincidences" are.

Also, how do you guys think his transformation will look like when one of the other gods gives Billy their initial. Will he glitch out if he has Hepheastean fix it and he says "SHAHAM"? Maybe get swarmed by owls if Athena offers her help and he says "SHAAAM"?

Should probably give what's his name, Teth Adom? A heads up to not try a transformation until they figure it out. I know he doesn't transform if he can help it, but I know he uses it to shoot lightning in fights sometimes.

"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"

Tech-Priest Khornelius 3:16: Ohhhh NOooooo.

(Concerning R2-D2 noises)
Tech-Priest Khornelius 3:16: I did not foresee this eventuality. With out Zeus to empower him the Exalted champion known as SHAZAM is now just SHA AM. You will need to find an appropriate Divine Entity with an adequate power level. Hmm maybe Zagreus could be a temporary replacement?

(Internet download noises)
Tech-Priest Khornelius 3:16: I shall first begin compiling a list of Divine Entities who's names begin with Z. Secondly, I'll compile a list of sufficiently powerful Divine Entities who maybe willing to add a silent Z to the beginning of their names. Perhaps Hades, Zhades?

Adom isn't connected to Zeus and he doesn't shoot lightning in this story.

"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"
Replace the Z with an H
SHAHAM!

Uh Paul why did billy turn into a cyborg?

"ah yes well this is going to be a long story."

Did anyone remember to call Black Adam?

"his power works a bit differently so he should probably be fine"

"I declare us to be divorced. We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
Oh She's going to be pissed when she finds out he took Aries junk as part of the divorce settlement.

...A thought: Will Zeus have any kind of legal identity in modern culture? Or will he seek out a suitable ally to handle that sort of fiddly details. Ploutos, perhaps.
Better question, how long till his last old flame decides to sue for child support for his latest demigoddess?
"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"
Should try saying SHAAM! or SHAHAM! now. Though the first us embarrassing in the second just doesn't have that cool sound SHAZAM! did. Wonder how The Wizard is getting along?
"I declare us to be divorced. We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
Please tell me there are cameras waiting, watching, and recording for their meet and greet!

"I declare us to be divorced. We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
APHRODITE: (after finding out about Ares' recent mutilation) Oh for F@$#'s sake, can't I have ANYTHING nice?! This is petty even by OLYMPIAN standards! He's taken too much after that mother of his!

"I declare us to be divorced. We both know that you prefer Ares; go to him now with my blessing. He was on Olympus when last I saw him."
Well it looks like a missed a row yesterday!

About the the whole castration thing, it feels to me personally that Ares didn't get the special treatment compared to Zeus and Aphrodite because he slept with Heph's wife; he got it because he was a bully. The worst sort of bully. Like imagine Zeus a the sort of bully who'd casually bully anyone who crossed his path as he went about his day, without thinking a thing of it. He's a bully yes, but mainly as a side effect if being a self absorbed, self centered asshole.

And Ares as the kind who would get bored, and specifically go out looking for vulnerable kids to pick on. His bullying isn't ancillary to anything. It is his character class, and he goes above and beyond to get that roleplaying XP when everyone else would like to move things along and continue with whatever they were doing. Like if he did it in Heph's bed with is wife, it wouldn't ne because it was the only bed in the house, or the closest comfortable surface. Heph and Aph could have had their own separate chambers with separate beds and Ares would do it in Heph's bed specifically because for the humiliation factor in the hopes it would hurt more.

If red is Wroth, I remember some recent scenes there Heph was talking about both Zeus and Ares. Zeus was in white, and Ares was very very red. Where Area found Heph to be a vulnerable target, and has has millennia to get his bully on. Bad blood borne of a mountain of grief and grievance. The issue that got him unmanned was just the cherry on the top of the sundae.

And related, Heph didn't even hunt him down to do this in cold blood, this happened after he had just interfered in a 1-on-1 challenge for the throne of Olympus, trying to turn it into a 2-on-1. In which Heph won the crown. Ares ended up picking the wrong pony, and as a consequence ended up in a 'you take a swing at the king, you better not miss' situation.

Assuming that Heph gets rid off Herakles.

And I doubt that Zagreus can provide the Power and Strength aspect of the powerset.

Heph could provide power and Billy may not lose the magic lighting since Heph is a god of machines and electricity is a part of machines.

When the Lord of Magic Atlas died, Freddy replaced the Stamina of Atlas with the Healing of Apollo, so there's wiggle room.

Or he could just get new powers, as when the post flashpoint Billy got new patrons who gave him- S'IVAA's strength, H'RONMEER's fire, ANAPEL's compassion, ZONUZ's source manipulation, ATE's boldness, and MAMARAGAN's lightning.

While Zoat is typically loath to add post flashpoint stuff, he did just add Fauxbo.

Edit: For those who don't do links, that's a Shadow Elemental tied to the New Gods, the Martian god of fire and death who may or may not be an aspect of Death of the Endless, a Siberian stone on a string that Siberians used to determine who their baby was a reincarnation of, Darkseid's abusive dad, the Greek goddess of folly and rash action, and an Australian lightning god that is the Wizard post flashpoint.

Why is Heph going full robot? Technology isn't just about robots. It's about the creation of tools through the scientific observation and manipulation of our environment. That can be literally anything. He doesn't have to constrain himself to just metal and electricity. Organic materials follow natural laws just the same as any more industrial material would. They are just incredibly more complex. And, additionally, incredibly more versatile and efficient. Is this just Heph's early phase of tech use? Or does Mr. Zoat just like the robotic aesthetic? Or is this just a reflection of humanity's perception of technology?

Also, converting Simpson into a technology elemental or demigod as a reward for good service, and to deprive the forces of hell?

I'm guessing Heph is going full robot because he just may like it.

He also may not be able to create biotechnology like say the Martians due to humanity not really associating tech like that.

Because of course you write Diana just shrugging off the broken promise.

Hold up this seems like it should be more... concerning...
That's because it is, for a number of reasons.

Not the least because there are a lot of Greek god's you just straight up don't want pushing their domain on mortals.

Like Limos, the god of Hunger, Starvation, and Famine.

Or well... Most of Eris's children in general...
And hateful Eris bore painful Ponos ("Hardship"), Lethe ("Forgetfulness") and Limos ("Starvation") and the tearful Algea ("Pains"), Hysminai ("Battles"), Makhai ("Wars"), Phonoi ("Murders"), and Androktasiai ("Manslaughters"); Neikea ("Quarrels"), Pseudea ("Lies"), Logoi ("Stories"), Amphillogiai ("Disputes") Dysnomia ("Misrule") and Ate ("Ruin"), near one another, and Horkos ("Oath"), who most afflicts men on earth, Then willing swears a false oath.[5]

Really, the Greek God's taking a more active hand is just bad for humanity in general... Because outside of a few exceptions they're just generally horrible...

He needed things that would let him fight.

I'm more likely to have him use Ribalvei as a temporary thing.
