Ascetic's ted to train their spirits through their bodies. Mikihisa was apparently one of the few Ascetic's to have climbed Mt. Everest. Hence why he's the only Asakura adult with over 50,000 Furyoku.

Going to need a lot of Furyoku if what we have heard so far is anything to go by, and I really want to get the mirror done with after all this. Bad roll on that one last time. As for the last slot, Asceticism sounds like it won't be available for us to train in every year, so I'd rather get it done when we can. Even if we can train it reguarly it sounds like it can increase our health and or furyoku levels with the training as well, so it is still good to try.

I also just read in Mikihisa page that his training allowed him to summon god and buddha spirit. Since Tamamo is basically a fragment of a goddess, it might help reduce the furyoku cost.

The adventures of Monk Yoh: K2: Meeting John

On the savage mountain, one in four die on the way to the sumit. The nearest village is more then sixty five miles away so help is scarce between the camps. It took fifty two years since the first expedition to K2 for anyone to even reach the top. Only the most hardcore climbers even attempt to scale the deathtrap that is K2. John is one of those climbers.

John has been climbing for the past week, and is already exhausted, but he doesn't regret it. He never feels more alive then when he is climbing the peaks. But, this trip seems different from all the rest. It isn't the climb itself (although that is certainly unique) it is who he sees on his way up. Ahead of him seems to be some kind of monk.

The monk isn't even wearing a parka, just some kind of robes. He seems really short and is carrying a huge pack, bigger then his own body. John hurries up to catch up with the monk. In his clothes, he should be dead by now. When John reaches the monk, he puts his hand the monks shoulder and says "You need help, you will freeze to death in those cloths!"

The monk turns around, and John steps back in surprise. It is a asisn kid, wearing headphones no less, and his music is loud enough that John can hear it. He reconizes it from somewhere, Soul Fred or something? The kids lips are blue, and he is shiveting. John scrambles to grab his extra parka from his own pack and give it two the kid. He shouts to be heard over the kids music "Here, put this on! You will die from hypothermia if you don't get warm!"

The kid monk accepts the parka and puts it on without a word, while John's brain goes into shock. How did this kid get past customs? Why is he wearing monk robes? Most importantly, why isn't he dead yet?! John managed to calm himself, it doesn't matter now. All that matters is getting this kid to safety.

The previous camp is too far back, John's only hope is to escort this kid to the next camp and get help there. Maybe he can get a helicopter to come rescue this kid? Regardless, John can't let him climb up this mountain alone. "Kid, I am going to get you help, okay? Stick with me. Anyways, what's your name and what are you doing here?"

In heavily accented English, the kid says "Yoh, my name is Yoh Asakura. I am an Ascetic Monk, and this is my training."

Omake: On Mountains I Awaken: Yoh Asakura's Bizarre Adventure

Yoh Asakura couldn't be considered a normal kid by any possibile standard: he was a strange kid, lonely and with a passion for soul music, aloof, the type of person who loves to watch clouds, but for one thing he wasn't lazy, that's for sure.

So when he decided to start his Shungeja training, he thought he was ready for anything and anybody, if necessary to become stronger to bring back his brother.

Even so, when his father took him on the Alps, more precisely on the Mont Blanc, he kinda lost it since he thought he would start more simply, instead of hiking the highest European mountain.

The hike was difficult and harsh, especially since he was pretty much a novice, other than being a 6 years old who could see freakin' ghosts. His teeth were chattering, his skin was extremely cold on touch, his hand were torn apart from the edges of the mountain, and he was even more ragged than when he was in the Iron Maiden: and yet, he couldn't and wouldn't give up; even if his body was destroyed, his will and spirit would never quench before the difficulties on the road, and the fire of his determination burned in his eyes, small but more deep than those that a six years old should have.

When he arrived on the peak, his just as good as dead body didn't feel cold anymore: instead, his concentration was on the incredible sensation of victory and satisfaction he felt surge in himself, as he watched the Europe and his beautiful sunset from his highest point; he shouted at the top of his lungs, falling flat on the ground.

With his headphones, Soul Bob, his monk attire and his mask, he was ready to face any trial: this was just the start of Yoh Asakura's Bizarre Adventure.

I think we can lock, it's pretty obvious that almost everyone wants to train furyoku and ascetism.

I leave it open till update day for this, I'm running three quests and rotate between them. This way no one can complain they didn't get a chance to vote before I lock.

Ok, thanks. So the next update will be Monday?
Yep. This not only gives time for voting but also debating options and you guys time to think of ways to cheat the system. It'll just make things sweeter for my inner sadist when you guys fail a roll spectacularly.

Well, does anyone else want to write some more omakes?

I want to stack bonuses on Ascetic training because we need above 80 for the prodigy trait. I might do something for Furyoku if motivation strikes, though.

Well. Let's see where it takes us.

This happens when you have nothing to do.

Omake: The Art of Meditation: Yoh Asakura's Bizarre Adventure

Shugendo, or in other words the japanese ascetism, is a syncretic religion born around the Heian era: it's primary beliefs are that one can attain enlightment by attuning oneself with the Kami, in other words the nature spirit and gods of the japanese tradition, borrowing elements from Buddhism and Taoism. So, a Shugenja can attain the awakening of his true self, similar yet inferior to the Buddha's one, if he can understand the relationship between mankind and the nature, and to them the best way to do so is experiencing harsh environments and doing rituals, usually in the mountains.

This art was the path chosen by Mikihisa Asakura and his son, Asakura Yoh: hiking the highest mountains in the world, wearing nothing but their Shugenja cloths their mask, and taking with them only little food. While it's believed that this is simply a spiritual way without material gains, in the Shaman World it's a incredible art, difficult but rewarding: a full fledged Shugenja can become one with the God/Buddha Class and summon them to his aid; it'a also a good way to travel the world.

Thanks to the traveling, Yoh Asakura could say that he was growing closer with his deadbeat father, often absent in his early childhood. He still hadn't the best relationship, but at least they were both making an effort to truly get to know each other.

Yoh Asakura enjoyed meditating in the mountains: thanks to his Iron Maiden training he never felt any pain, and only the cold could give his problems, but he could deal with it easily enough; when one meditates on the peak of the mountains he has to face the harsh winds, the hunger and the lack of oxygen while mantaining an absolute concentration, in order to obtain an intimate link with the mountains spirits, in order to slowly grow his understanding about the Kamis in general.

Yoh Asakura looked up to what Mikihisa had obtained: a strong body, mind and spirit; in fact, after his brother he was probably the one with the highest furyoku in the family, at least that was what his grandfather said to him once. Also, his guardian spirits were pretty strong: his father told him that they are a fox and racoon dog mountain spirits, strong spirits, better than most of the "normal" spirit used by the typical Shaman; their status as Seirei-type spirits attested that: he could only hope to found a spirit like that, in order to fight Hao, who probably had some obscenely powerful spirit.

As for now, he could only hope that his training would be awarded with some sweet fruits that would make him a stronger shaman, good enough to face Hao without backing down.

[END]

I went with the logic that if Hao escaped from home, he must not want to come home, and so that Yoh must fight him in some way

Well, I won't be surprised if this fails, but hopefully we can convince him to come home without fighting. Maybe if we get a Nat 100 on diplomacy?
