It's a reference to Chinese Gu, yeah. Basic idea was that SI-Trent would slowly be filled up with various energies like Devil power, Dragon energy, stuff like that, essentially making him a metaphorical Gu.

One of the most insignificant ones is where the MC convinced Peter Parker that Mary Jane is actually his half sibling, and that the MC is their dad, and then returned later to convince Harry, who is dating her at the time, that actually MC is also his father, and that Peter has thousands of half siblings in NY.
