Amelia, Worm AU [Complete]

The endbringer that gave the marching orders removed herself from the situation. At this point, I believe the Endbringers are being governed by Eidolon's subconscious desires, with no Simurgh to direct them towards a good end.
if Ziz was still in play, then Behemoth would have have really messed up the world, when he was hit with the 3RD IMPACT ray....yeah that could turned ugly unless that was planed. i doubt it,considering Scion took another Endbringer off the board.

"I thought we went public with Avalon so we could hide Mashu," I replied.
... I'm remembering something, from way back when the group first pulled itself together...

"Uh... it doesn't have to be spikes or acid?" Clarice offered. looked at her. "It wouldn't be too difficult to set them to be microwave, laser, sonic, or even EM cannons. We'd still need to aim them manually, though I could help fix that a bit, but at that proportionate size, it could store and release enough power to cut through an aircraft carrier. Or any amount less we prefer. I'd recommend using only a fraction of maximum power at a time. With ways to delimit it for brutes or when we're willing to use lethal force."

I was still hesitant. That kind of damage potential would be absurd. Enough to take on an army. Or an Endbringer.

"We're doing it. The turrets are approved." Taylor said. She'd been thinking the same thing I was thinking. I simply nodded.
A world sized microwave, laser, sonic, and/or EM cannon perhaps?

That's actually something I thought about but never mentioned. Pantheon could find an even more inhospitable world, completely soaked in radiation and hot as an oven, and use a specialized Yggdrasil to web over the world and use all that free floating high energy as a power source. It would be too much work to terraform the planet to make it support life, but making one or even a dozen worlds into power plants for whatever they want would be easy.

As I'm sure you have heard by now, the UN has accepted Pantheon as a Sovereign nation in its own right, with Amelia Lavere and Taylor Hebert as it's Empresses. The news release can be found here.
I am making this thread to answer any questions you may have about this announcement. Gaea and Khepri will be watching this thread as well, so feel free to ask them questions.

One of Pantheon's biggest issues right now is attracting specialists to Avalon and have offered to fast track skilled immigrants. When I expressed an interest in an Avalon Citizenship they offered me land and infrastructure for a factory.

When's the wedding anyways? Are they waiting until all the Endbringers are dead or just the first three? (Only Leviathan's left)

Have you picked out what you're going to wear? How about the venue? Do you know who the Maid of Honor and Best Man are? Is there going to be a Best Man or just two Maids of Honor? Are you going to have a traditional wedding or something else?

You should check it out! We've got all this stuff on what you should do! Lasersmile had this great idea that you could use some of your creatures to serve drinks! What about my idea to work your costumes into your wedding dresses! Are you going to be wearing a wedding dress or are you going to be butch and wear a tux? We need to know!

Taylor logged off and rubbed her temples. After Actualize had hijacked the thread it had gone off topic for a couple of pages before the moderators had gotten it back on track, plus the wedding thread had exploded when she expressed an interest in it. Most of the ideas there was crap, insane things like suggesting they get married on a stage made from Leviathan's corpse. However a few were pretty good, she'd have to mention them to Amelia.

An inside out one in that the power is gathered from the outside surface rather than the inside but essentially yes, it's better described as a planet wide chemical/solar generator.

If they find a few completely dead and barren worlds without even an atmosphere, they could potentially cannibalize the planets themselves for the mass needed and have a network of portals to let an Yggdrasil grow into an actual dyson sphere if they REALLY wanted to.

That's one way to solve the Shard energy crisis, assuming they don't figure out how to harness the singularity machine.

And then Pantheon is an Entity.

the other countries military experts would literally shit a brick, besides being a super generator it could be used as a world destroying WMD,the U.N. would be pissed and they would loss a lot of pr and goodwill.it might get called the Jörmungandr by some media hack

couldn't a less invasive and slow approach be used instead, send out Dragon/ChariotTech massed produced solar satellites and sell it to trusted U.N. affiliated nations and colonies to created a Dyson's swarm over time, they won't see the threat and Avalon get money and power(in a literal and political sense of the word).

I don't think you really grasp the implications of secret access to hundreds of dead worlds.

TanaNari, won't you make a chapter from CUI's perspective. I want to see their reaction and how evil or pragmatic they actually is.

Grammar aside? I don't know... maybe? That's a big ask for something I don't see contributing much to the story.

Aaand it's canon now.

This, too, but you need to name these things.

I used the term 'cannibalize' for a reason, do you have any idea how much mass a Dyson Sphere takes to make? Completely devouring 10 earths completely, crust, mantel, and core, might not supply enough mass to do the job.

I'm sure someone could do the calcs but suffice to say a Dyson Sphere is a good idea but without entire planets worth of mass or energy-to-mass conversion tech it's not feasible to do. Not to mention the time it would take, the distance we're taking is absolutely ridiculous.

The only reason they would have to contemplate this is if they feel like branching into a galactic scale and have centuries to spend on it. I was only saying it was technically possible, not that it would be worth their time or effort anywhere in the near future.

One could theoretically rip the mass out of the sun itself in order to build said dyson sphere. Or go a step further and disassemble the sun entirely to power fusion reactors for a VERY long time.

Lots of fun stuff involved in setting up a government, but I've got a question.

Who are they buying planets from? Nobody really has prior claim to those worlds, so who's the banker?

I think they're pretty much buying legitimacy from the international community. Since they clearly don't need permission, I'm pretty sure they're just acting like they do to distract from the fact that they're claiming uninhabited worlds left, right, and center on the low-down.

If they could make an Yggdrasil variant that could survive those temperatures/pressures then yes, I was talking about using just what they already have and have tested to do the job. Once Dragon goes Singularity all bets are off but this theory-crafting was about how just Amelia and Taylor, or possibly just Amelia, could do the job without outside beyond being given time and portal access to the planets needed.

That's what they're buying, but who are they paying? Did the UN set up a "planet bank" that was given default ownership over all of the worlds, for everyone to purchase them from? Or did they just make donations to specific countries for them to turn a blind eye?

These are wild, unclaimed planets. There's absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop someone from planting a flag on Earth # 232528107435, especially since everyone else is busy doing the same thing.

Doesn't Pantheon control the information flow and half of the mechanism for making the portals?

I thought they were paying to use Labyrinth? Faultline doesn't charge them for Lily, since Pantheon charges whoever is getting the portal, but Pantheon's getting a lot of personal use out of Labyrinth, so they have to pay for it, don't they?

There are a limited number of worlds. Avalon currently has about a dozen people, but has one planet to themselves. Some of the national governments haven't gotten a world. Some people might argue that that's unfair.
Google said:
Conspicuous consumption is the spending of money on and the acquiring of luxury goods and services to publicly display economic power—either the buyer's income or the buyer's accumulated wealth.
I still don't see how it fits, especially as they freely admit they have no current economic power.
"You would make an impressive form of Big Brother. Or sister, in this case."
:DAnd my name for Taylor now has canon references!:D
In the Konshu battle, they made a comment about how since Zach is still aging, he is in danger of dying in a time bubble, which doesn't make a lot lot of sense, since "dying of old age" is not really a thing, it's just a series of possible illnesses that's frequency increases after a certain peak condition.
Point-in-fact, death of old age IS a thing; and forgive the explanation for not being the most specific, I don't know the technical terms for a lot of the stuff I'm describing, been a while since I learned this stuff.

When cells in your body split in the creation of new cells (cellular mitosis), there is actually genetic drift over time, due to the cells in your body being copies, of copies, of copies, of copies, ect.. Take a printout to a copying machine, and copy it, then copy the copy, then copy that copy, and you'll see what I'm taking about.

The ONLY cells in your body that avoid this fate are your bone marrow cells, since they use a different form of cellular mitosis that preserves the original DNA in it's entirety, rather than splitting it. (if all the cells in your body acted like your bone marrow cells, you'd literally NEVER age past your prime.)

This genetic drift causes your organs and tissues to slowly break down faster than new cells can be created. Eventually you reach a point where your organs just can't stand up to the effort of keeping you alive.
Thomas Calvert is The DEVIL
Emma is the Scrappy Engineer(still needs something better)
Coil's not the Devil anymore, why the very thought of betraying Pantheon simply hasn't crossed his mind, he's happy where he is, helping people. For Calvert, I'd say a better name would be something like:
-Schrodinger
-Tommy Two-Face (since you seem to be going with the Italian mafia theme for the most of the names)
-Coin Toss (because it's either heads or tails, one or the other)

Emma... Definitely tougher... How about 'The Multi-Faced Atoner.'
I'm kind of waiting for Dragon, Pantheon and Rapture to come up with a continuous brain state copying device/implant.
They seem to be pretty against invasive procedures (at least where Riley's concerned).

Besides, that would be Crainial's shtick.
This is the kind of thing the Endbringers usually put a stop to, if the story of Sphere is anything to do by.
Simurgh's not a factor anymore.
Grammar aside? I don't know... maybe? That's a big ask for something I don't see contributing much to the story.
Honestly, I don't see much point in a CUI chapter either. At most I could see them getting a few paragraphs from one of their leader's PoV, maybe in a scene during an international meeting where we get reactions from several of the present ambassadors and/or leaders. Other than something as unlikely as that, I don't see the point.
I used the term 'cannibalize' for a reason, do you have any idea how much mass a Dyson Sphere takes to make? Completely devouring 10 earths completely, crust, mantel, and core, might not supply enough mass to do the job.
Fallacy, though not one I can really blame you for. The StarTrek episode that made Dyson Sphere's well-known was actually SEVERELY off about what they actually are.

An actually Dyson Sphere is actually just a series of interconnected Satellites surrounding the sun in 3-dimensions, all harvesting solar power and transmitting it back to earth. Only later conceived proposals based on the concept included things like habitation or industrial components.

The mass of all the needed satellites to complete a Dyson Sphere would be less than that of the Moon.

Also, the aspect of Avalon citizenship no one's talked about yet, PERFECT healthcare.

After all, it's been shown that Amelia can heal a person touching Yggdrasil, without having direct contact herself. And EVERYTHING is touching Yggdrasil in Avalon. She's in Avalon!Brockton Bay, someone in Avalon!Austrailia slips and shatters a vertebrae, just touch some skin to the closest tendril, or object constructed from Yggdrasil (so in your house....any of your walls would work), and Amelia can heal you instantly.

Hell, she could even go so far as to have a fruit grow out of the ground/wall next to them for them to eat to provide all of the exact nutrients/fats/etc. they need to fully recover what she used in the healing to start with, along with an hour-long metabolism boost to properly use it, rather than her week-long boosts and advice to eat a lot she currently does. Or eat it, then touch the wall again, and she metabolizes everything perfectly for you. Instant perfect health.

That said....Is Amelia still making trips to hospitals and such to heal people? And if so, how does her being a foreign leader affect her ability to do this?

Regarding mass requirements for a Dyson Swarm (since "Sphere" implies a single structure which isn't even close to accurate): depends heavily on how close together those satellites are, how far away from the sun they are, and how massive the satellites need to be. As such, saying "this is enough mass" is a difficult proposition as there are too many variables. Orbiting at 1 AU will get you VERY different results from orbiting at .001 AU, for example.

I said and meant sphere, a solid continuous structure that harvests 100% of the output from a star and coincidentally makes that star system effectively invisible from the outside because the output has dropped to nothing. THAT is where I came up with my pseudo-numbers. I actually didn't know anything about a Star Trek episode, my idea came from Schlock Mercenary but even moreso because that used a very thin layer like a balloon and here I'm talking a fairly thick specialized plant that lives off solar wind and solar radiation.

Again, unless they went with one several dozen miles thick this is nothing but a galactic scale power source rather than something they could live on.
