Cosmos Quest (Naruto/Lupin III)

[X] "Hm. Not sure yet. I'd have to see everyone in action before I decide."

I'm looking forward to fighting Gaara because of the music battle, but fighting him first just means he doesn't get to take out any other opponents and telling him ahead of time spoils some of the fun.

Thinking back on the thread's discussions, Kibi seems to be the most anticipated opponent because we're pretty sure she's a genjustu prodigy. Unless we're more excited about sabotaging Temari's fan or Kankuro's puppets?

Guns aren't new, but worthwhile ones definitely are.
Agreed.

Kabuto was like a quadruple agent at one point. I'd be more surprised if he didn't know every genin's stats.
But he'd been gone form Konoha and Root employment by this time.
Know the genin?
Sure.
Maybe even the stats of the older genin.
But to have up to date mission stats for all of them?
When most would have been doing missions up to maybe a month or so before the exams, just like Team 7?

That's something no one spy can pull of in that time frame, and at this point he was only working for Orochimaru and Sasori.
That would have given him access to Sound files, and he would then need to steal everything else.

As for random selection being a crapshoot... fucking duh. Life is unfair, suck it up. Stacking the deck is just going to make you look desperate in the eyes of your peers, which is the opposite of what the chuunin exams are about. Strength and cunning speak for themselves.
That's what they tell the genin; real life is generally a little more complicated than that.
And there are always political considerations if you're dealing with foreigners, and even sometimes your own people.

FurikoMaru said:
Besides, they don't usually have a prelim anyway. The Rookie 9 and Team Gai just fucked up the curve with their unexpected awesomeness in canon. There's no reason for there to be behind-the-scenes schmoozing when there's normally nothing to schmooze about.
I seriously doubt this is the first time that's happened.
Anko certainly shrugged it off.

Do note, I'm just arguing for argument's sake.

Tempted to answer,

[ ] "Anyone who isn't your little brother, more or less. No offence, Kankuro, but you're a scary bastard."

Or say we want to fight Gaara. Less because we relish the idea of a fight and more because we would not wish our friends on him, but we personally are probably better equipped to with him. Possibly something on fighting fears (Gaara, you are the scariest thing I've felt since the Kyuubi, yes I was a baby when the Kyuubi came, trust me when I say there is not enough repression in the world to forget that).

Truth is though, Lee might have a chance at a good showdown with Dante!Gaara here with senjutsu, and why the hell wouldn't we wish for Gaara to kick some non-Konoha ass?

So....

[X] "Anyone who isn't your little brother, more or less. No offense, Kankuro, but you're a scary bastard."

[X] More seriously, Kibi
-[X] You heavily suspect she's genjutsu oriented and really good at it too. You can handle that, but a lot of your friends wouldn't do so well. Not to mention some of them are just too nice and would feel real bad about beating the tar out of a little girl. For you, it'd be a good match for the audience and would leave you in pretty solid shape for my next fight, assuming you can pull it off. Plus you just don't encounter many people who specialize in genjutsu. You're pretty interested in seeing what illusions Sound teaches its students!
-[X] Although you certainly wouldn't mind watching Kibi kick some ass only to duel her later in the finals. Whet the appetite, you now? Guess it could be....not a breather round, but if you end up having to go all out in an earlier round you'd probably have the luxury of sticking with finesse against Kibi and give your chakra a chance to recover more for later. You'd just like the chance to fight her at some point in the finals. It should be interesting to see if her performance in the prelims lines up with your expectations.

[X] How about you Temari?

How's that?

EDIT: Actually...balls. I'm not sure I want to spill Kibi's secrets, assuming we have any, before she even fights in case Temari or Kankuro fight her. I'd actually feel kinda bad ruining Kibi's surprise, or if Kibi lost because Temari decide "No fucking around," and blasted the shit outta Kibi at the start of the match.

Son of EDIT: Honestly, if Kibi ends up being the winning vote, just taking whatever works and is IC from what we suggest is fine with me.

It's certainly briefer and gives a decent explanation. I dunno, I think the motive of, "I want to test a genjutsu opponent and see what others do with it," a bit like a craftsman examining the work of others, would resonate more.

And come to think of it, if Kibi isn't able to overcome an opponent who has her number, maybe she just isn't ready. I don't THINK Temari is up there with Lee, Ino, and Gaara in fuck-you-up-before-you-know-what's-happened. And at very least come finals people are likely to know her main trick unless for a six year old she is surprisingly competent at taijutsu and ninjutsu relative to everyone else. But I suspect genjutsu is her main method, raised to an absurd degree.

Plus, what we get from Temari and her sibs is probably equivalent to what we give.

Either outcome is now fine with me. And I think I will add the Kankuro bit to mine.

Um, guys.
Why is KANKURO a scary bastard?

[X] "Hm. Not sure yet. I'd have to see everyone in action before I decide."

This is an ice-breaker from Temari, we need something more substantial than just, "I don't know yet," if we want the chatter to flow more freely. If nothing else showing we do think things tactically would likely raise us a few notches in her esteem, especially if we've proven correct.

If they ask why Kankuro scares us, we have to mention something about a childhood trauma leading to a doll phobia.

I don't mind you guys messin' around, but d'ya hafta lift jokes from other stories? Kankuro being the scary one because he makes puppets was already done in It's For A Good Cause, I Swear!

... not very well admittedly, but...

I thought of exactly that, actually. But I didn't make it explicit cause....stealing jokes. Also, if you wanted to use it, hey, free shout out for me. :p

But I made originally made it more for the reversal of expectations on who the scary little brother is, since you handed us such an easily modified line. It was just too easy. Also, you did kinda have Gaara refer to Kankuro as the creepy doll maker, so playing further on that isn't exactly stretching it too far.

Suppose we could make a joke out of the girl known as Ino the Shapeshifter saying she has a fear of someone stealing her face and replacing her? Maybe play it out as overly dramatic, only an axe murder checks behind the door, that kind of stuff? Eh.

Yeah, fair cop. I just intended that as a minor shout-out, is all; I'd think building off of it would make it less funny.

....Wait, does that count as another part of a Z-Slash?

In any case, I can agree to that. Don't make it define the relationship, perhaps more of how the sibs and their friends occasionally give each other shit? One of the ways at least.

Cramming the wood up Kankuro's ass/taking it out, as a reference to the wooden stock of a gun stored relatively close to the ass region?

The obvious ones are the puppets and the facepaint, not a lot of ways to spin those that haven't already been done before.

Cite a fictional fear of clowns perhaps? Or some other kind of circus?

Something to avoid Kankuro's running theme being the evil soulless puppets.

well building puppets is his entire thing, saying a joke about it would be stealing is silly.

theres probably hundreds of fics that mention that, though the same could be said about anything you choose to do.

anyway, if not a childhood doll phobia, what excuse could we give to fear him then?

phobia of men wearing makeup? (though that's been done before too)

Make it a "where I got these scars" thing.

Growing up, we never had any interest in dolls. We didn't hate them, they just never showed up on our radar. That is, until one of the genin teams assigned to babysit us had the bright idea of trying to distract us with dolls. We, of course, took exception to this, as we wanted to play with some fireworks we'd stolen from a recent festival. When we managed to slip away from them, we decided to tie a doll to one of the fireworks out of spite. Unfortunately we hadn't considered the aerodynamic implications of this. The last thing we saw before the missile flew through our bedroom window and exploded was a smiling porcelain face.

We once caught a guy in makeup spying on the women's side of the baths. Turned out he was trying to get inspiration for his porn series. Ever since then the sight of a guy in makeup has made us feel violated.

Kankuro reminds us of a pretty awesome (ly lame) old guy who is also a kickass Kage-level ninja.

Ino instinctively becomes neighborly around him.

Kankuro isn't wearing any makeup.

Huh. Gun-toting puppeteer was such a logical connection between disciplines I didn't dig further.

That said, everyone has these mental images of these guys in their heads Furiko. And we're left with ours, not yours, unless told otherwise.

Edit: I hope SOMEONE from Sand has a walking tank puppet bristling with guns, or I shall be disappointed.

Kankuro is a puppeteer. But apparently his description has changed without us noticing.

Are you sure?

Was he described carrying his Karasu? I can't remember.

Last edited by a moderator:
He had Karasu with him for the first exam, remember? It was the false proctor.

But yeah, it's kind of hard to indicate that someone's noticed that a guy isn't wearing makeup in a way that sounds natural. If Kankuro had been done up in his canon kabuki paint, Ino would have added something about overuse of eyeliner running in the family when she dissed Gaara's birthmarks.

So Kankuro has brown hair, no make up, all that stuff?

You know come to think of it how is it that the Sand Sibs all have starkly different shades of hair? Meh.

Well if Furiko counts the Kibi votes as two each with their own subsections, that ties up the voting. Any chance Kibi can get more votes? Ignoring Kankuro or our rationale, I think it's safe to say she's our most anticipated match.

Well, what colour is the Kazekage's hair? If it's red, Temari dyes her hair; if it's blond, then Gaara's a redhead because tanuki.

I can always blend the arguments in favour of Kibi. You aren't really obligated to cover her ass, being from an unallied village, after all.

Lacking inspiration, so I'll go with the joke.
No outing the eight year old though.
Besides, given that she's an apprentice of Deidara, anyone assuming genjutsu alone may be in for a nasty surprise.

Uh....wikia looks like brownish-red, auburn? Maybe? Oh Temari you punk.

Blending arguments sounds good to me. Long as she gets some more votes, nearly anything is better than wait and see IMO. That's just status quo, which we want to change.

Less obligation and more the potential to spoil our fun. We are talking to two people who have the chance to fight her in the preliminaries, and since she's our most anticipated opponent it would be nice for her ass to stay covered until we get a chance to kick it.

Still, we don't have anything more specific than which of the three major areas she specializes in, so it's not like we could reveal anything terribly damaging even if we wanted to.

[X] Kibi

[X] Oh yeah, I'm totally aiming for the eight year old. Epic Rivals.
