Dark Heavens | Space Ship Girls Quest [Original Setting]

I mentioned before I'd like to take the carrier special for ChiChi, I put off actually voting for it though since I figured we would get a list of what we could choose after that if taking a subsystem won. Just to check, but what drawbacks would taking the carrier special for ChiChi have? Voting for that unless they are pretty bad.

[X] Carrier Special for ChiChi

Right, I guess I should put an X by it, huh?

[X] Carrier Special for ChiChi

Yeah, that is why I asked about the drawbacks. My next choice after that would be taking the Heavy Broadsides for anyone (well by anyone I mean choose whoever gets the least drawbacks from taking them of course. No point putting them on a sub if that wrecks their maneuverability).

If it's ChiChi....

Carrier Special means she can't do self repairs while she's manufacturing new parasite crafts.
Broadside Special means her armor rating drops to Heavy on the turn she fires, and then back up to Very Heavy when she closes the ports for the Broadsides.

Given that either of those only happen out of combat I think we can live with that drawback. Especially since it is only manufacturing new parasite crafts to replace the ones that get destroyed that she has to choose between, not rearming/refueling the old ones that survive. Going to stay with getting ChiChi the new special.

definitely Carrier Special (parasite craft) for ChiChi.
If we win our bluff check then Medium proton missile turrets: 4 turrets with 8 missiles for one of the subs, and Very Heavy Armor from Carrier for ourselves, unless there's a serious drawback for us.

Unfortunately, the current action vote (7 to 4) is to settle for just one - no Bluff or Intimidate checks being made at all.

Current Tally~

4 - pepperjack, redaeth, Jiven, Raron
[-] Accept the coward's surrender.
-[-] Demand a subsystem each from both cruisers and Shoryuu. They have been harassing your sisters for months and they deserve recommencement for repairs made, and having to flee again and again.
-[-] If they refuse make a show of powering up your broadsides and tracing their fresh wounds with your PD.

7 - wayne82444, Least Devotee, EternitynChaos, theweepingman, evillevi, Minion #Q, joe6168
[-] Accept the coward's surrender. [May pick 1 subsystem from losers and stored in Big Sister's cargo hold]

I notice there are people voting for which system to take that haven't voted on the action, though...

Very heavy armor on Ciara would reduce her speed to Low.

Yeah, I kind of agree dropping our speed to low wouldn't be worth it. That's why I said the broadside as my second vote, since I expected the Very Heavy armor to drop our speed. While speed isn't Ciara's strength, it isn't a weakness either. If we get some good engines to upgrade it at some point I'd be all for that, but otherwise I'd rather not lower it anymore.

Also are all upgrades going to come with some kind of negative, or just the high level ones like heavy weapons and armor? I can actually see that being done either way really.

Its all give and take... minor and moderate systems don't have a huge penalty.

Chi chi speed isn't going to drop like Ciara would with more stuff.... she has more resources to throw.

Its why dreadnaught, cargo and carrier classes are good long term. Bigger frame work and more support systems.

This would have been great to know at the start. I'd have probably voted Battleship after all if I had known it got less penalties from upgrades. Hindsight can be annoying like that. Still, as long as we can gain all around increases by basically upgrading everything one piece at a time it works. If we can't ever gain all around improvements it will eventually get to where we will only upgrade our allies, since upgrading Ciara won't really help anything, it will just change her focus.

if we were a battleship in this battle we couldn't have hidden behind ChiChi, and gone "Surprise! bitches"
Eh, I'm still happy with the Cruiser chassis. it's like the Mad Cat (or Timber wolf) of ships. Packs a helluva punch for its size and is quite versitile so no one knows what they'll be up against. Not to mention Dat Regen. mmmmm

Oh, I wasn't trying to say the cruiser is a bad choice at all, it still would have come down to battleship vs cruiser for me. Just knowing that we had upgrades at less cost likely would have tipped me towards voting battleship with the thought that we could get that regen as a battleship easier than we could get the big guns and armor as a cruiser. That's actually why I made the comment about hindsight too.

Well either way our cruiser is awesome. It probably fits with our fleet better than a battleship would for that matter, since we can hide easier and are faster. Our regen is still a major benefit too, since we can likely get back up to full health after most fights, whereas a battleship could be worn down easy. Actually that makes me wonder, can we use our Autonomous Repair Drones to fix up our allies? If so it is an even better special, since we can be support as well as a heavy hitter.

if they can, and we find an improved fire control module, would be be able to coordinate fire from the entire fleet so that all shots hit at the same time... we'd be the ultimate support cruiser and a goddam terror in our own right

True, but we could have done something equally ridiculous to hide!

Namely...

Five Minute Omake: What Coulda Been

Sohryuu lounged on her command throne, smirking as she watched her parasite craft and escorts close in on the massive shipform of ChiChi as it wallowed in a close orbit to the system's burning sun. Putting a hand to her mouth, she laughed with elegance and grace.

"OH-hohohohohoho! There's no escape for you this time, /Big Sis/! It looks like someone's stupid fancy slip space drive finally had a critical failure, ohohohoho!~ Thetis, Medusa! Try not to do too much damage to Chi-Chi's hull when you take control of her!~ Our glorious leader will want her intact! And keep your sensors out, those annoying little brats of hers are probably hiding around here somewhere."

Sighing happily at the confirmations from her darling subordinates, Sohryuu gestured idly, her attack craft swinging high to keep an eye out for the rest of the Freelancers. Yes, she could see it now. K'un-sama would praise her for this, for finally bringing the elusive ChiChi into her clutches! She'd be praised! Showered with upgrades! K'un-sama might even /pat her on the head/. Eeeeeee~

Yes, things were definitely looking up no-"SOHRYUU-SAMAAAAAAA-*CRACKLE*" "WHAT THE FU-"

Shocked out of her pleasant musings, Sohryuu stared in horror at the sight her tactical plot showed her. Thetis and Medusa both were drifting in space, massive gouges ripped along their hulls, still sparking and smoking as they vented atmosphere and a few of their pets.

The dimly shining star swirled, wakes of plasma kicked up as a massive form started to rise from underneath the roiling plasma.

Sohryuu felt her larger self's reactor clench in terror as one of her interceptors got a good view of the newest enemy. There was no mistaking it: Those massive turrets, that heavy armor, the magnificent missile tubes...

Licking suddenly dry lips, Sohryuu shuddered. Where the hell did ChiChi's Freelancers get a BATTLESHIP?!

Her commline buzzed, Sohryuu not daring to reject the Freelancer IFF, the Battleship not even bothering to swat her parasites from the void as it pulled itself out of the sun (Although she saw far, far too many point defense batteries swinging into line with them), spinal mounted main gun swinging into line with her hull, heavy turrets moving to bear on her as she felt herself shuddering under the sheer number of weapon locks the Freelancers and their new ally had slammed onto her.
"This is Ciara. You mess with the Freelancers, you mess with /me/. You have one chance to surrender."

"S--hr---am--" Thetis...
"Ow...o- t hu-" Medusa...

Sohryuu frantically responded to the demand. "We surrender! We surrender! Thetis, Medusa, power down all weapons and engines and shift to recovery mode! I'm slaving all my strike craft to ChiChi's control! Don't sink us!"

Slumping back in her command throne as a pair of Freelancer Cruisers dropped out of hyperspace next to her, Sohryuu sniffled, her eye closing as she watched her bright future slip away. "Ohhhh, K'un-sama is gonna be so mad about this..."

Hee, I'm happy with the Cruiser model (Edit: And, of course, adorably hiding behind Big Sis and then SURPRISE CANNONS), but hey, if Spaceship Girls can hide in the sun, or close enough as to not matter, why couldn't a Battleship pull the same trick to get the drop on overconfident light cruisers moving in to take control of a 'damaged' ChiChi? Who certainly wasn't faking with some quickly dumped spare supplies to simulate an engine rupture.~ Which would then lead to SURPRISE CANNONS (Which are the BEST SURPRISE).

You know, this seems a tad... intimate given the ship girls probably regard their systems as part of their larger bodies. You are in essence putting a part of yourself in another shipgirl and making all the aches and pains go away.
