We now have other magic users, some of whom would very much like to kill us (and in the escapees cases, actually competent at magic), to contend with.

We have also recently been made aware (in-character) that Gods and such have sway in this reality once more. So we have ample reason in-character to do this.

And even more than that, We now have a mage to help us... Actually, thinking on it, didn't we need the help of another mage before we could upgrade the Lodge anymore? We didn't max it out, just maxed it as far as we could go at the time.
