Once Upon a Time.

There was a world called Earth. On this planet, there lived a people who loved games. And one day, they made game called Elder Tale. It was an illusionary version of their own world, where a great catastrophe had caused the last civilization to wither and die. But life went on, and people rebuilt their lives. The people played as immortal adventurers, seeking fame and fortune across the globe.

And for many years, they played their beloved game. Until one day, something strange and impossible happened...

Once Upon a Time.

There was a world called Seldesha...

11:58 PM.

And the damn thing was still not done patching.

You take another sip of your soda, willing the bar to load faster. It stubbornly continues it's snail's pace across the screen.

You suppose that it's your fault for not updating earlier, but dinner came first. Then came that phone call from your mom, and then came dishes and then...

You honestly should've just cued this up hours ago. No sense crying over spilled milk, though.

Ah, the loading bar is nearly there.

Better think about the character you want to use.

[ ] Kaya, Fox-Tail Sorceress. LV 50. Subclass: Alchemist
Your primary character. You left her near the ruins of Duluth.

[ ] NanayaGin, Human Assassin. LV 28. Subclass: Undead Hunter
Your alt. Getting that Subclass was a pain at such a low level. Currently in Sacramento.

[ ] Ashuri, Half-Alv Summoner. LV 42. Subclass: Scholar
Yeah, this was kind of a joke character you made that turned out to be surprisingly fun to play as. You forgot where you left her.

[X] NanayaGin, Human Assassin. LV 28. Subclass: Undead Hunter

Looks fun.

[X] Kaya, Fox-Tail Sorceress. LV 50. Subclass: Alchemist

i have a feeling that potion making will be needed badly.

As the bar finally dings into completion, you make your decision.

New content, high level adventuring, and all the other fun that comes with an expansion demands you bring your A-game. Which is like other people's B or C game, to be perfectly honest. How the hell people manage to run multiple level 90 characters and keep them all in purples, you'll never understand.

Either way, your most powerful and pragmatically put together charcter is Kaya.

And with that, you click the Log In button.

... And then, the World changed.

What just happened?

No, seriously. What the fuck just happened?

You were at home, sitting at your computer, wrapped in a nice soft blanket.

And now you're standing in a snowbank, in what looks like it could be downtown, if downtown had been abandoned a few hundred years ago.

... Why does it all look so tall, though? And why are your legs so cold...

...

Why are you wearing thigh highs? You're not a gi-

...

...

You will not panic.

You refuse to panic.

Panicking is the last thing you want to do.

Slowly, oh so slowly, you raise your hands to where your ears were.

Nothing.

They slip higher, toward the top of your head, and you feel something soft and furry, even as something else on your head feels the gloves rubbing them.

Now's starting to really look like a good time to panic.

[ ] Find Shelter. You're in Duluth. In winter. In thigh highs and shorts. You really don't want to freeze to death.
[ ] That smell... Smoke?
[ ] If you're... like this, then maybe there are others? Is your friend's list still good?

[X] Smoke can be good or bad, but it's always important.
[X] Panic a little bit now.

[Q] Find and kill a Tauntaun. Wait the blizzard out inside it's warm, well insulated corpse.

First things first, you think to yourself as old survival training kicks in, locate shelter.

You might not have spent much time in the real Duluth, but you do know it's Elder Tale version a little better.

It's a minor city, really. A handful of quests. It's biggest thing was a unique raid where you protected a cargo ship crossing lake Superior from a small ice kraken. Lorewise, the city is supposed to be enduring a sort of famine thanks to said ice kraken not only fucking up the weather, but stopping shipments of food and other supplies from it's trading partners on the other side of the lake. Overland could work, but the weather and monsters made that a bit of a problem.

Now, the city itself is sort of at a slant. Which is to say, the entire city is basically a bowl, with the inhabited bits down at the bottom by the waterfront. This simplifies navigatio, as all you have to do is go downhill toward the lake, and then go towards the lit up bits.

Which is good, because you don't have your mini-map right now, and you're pretty sure you'd be completely lost otherwise.

You start on your trek at a fast walk. It helps keep you warm, and you're sure running would heat up your body which would mean you'd sweat. Which in this environment would start to freeze as soon as you stopped moving. Needless to say, that would be bad.

You really wish you could run though.

The streets are empty, and the storefronts decayed from rust and nature. Abandoned shops and signs faded with age do little to make the gray and white colors of the snow and shadows seem less eerie.

A cold wind howls between the buildings.

You keep moving.

The city is dead in this area. In the lore, no one has lived in this section for over a hundred years.

It doesn't stop the cold streets from making you feel like you're watched.

And then, you hear a moan that you're almost sure isn't the wind.

[ ] Investigate the sound. Carefully.
[ ] Head for the source of the noise. Every second counts in this environment.
[ ] NOPE! You are going, going, gone!

Medium-risk for combat and highest for exposure.

Lowest overall risk to us.

Hmm. I'm not familiar with this setting, are undead very common here?

I'm thinking that odds are good it's either a zombie of some kind or someone else like us, but I'm leaning towards paranoia/'It's a trap!' logic right now.

It's an MMO after a major expansion that overhauled huge swathes of content.

There aren't supposed to be undead in this area, though.

In that case, I suspect [although without real evidence] that this is another displaced player who's just shit outta luck. I'd prefer caution if we weren't losing heat rapidly, but as the situation stands...
