Elder Tale: American Server {Quest}

[X] Head for the source of the noise. Every second counts in this environment.

[X] Head for the source of the noise. Every second counts in this environment.

You surge forward.

And the first step nearly has you slipping on an icy patch.

It feels like your feet are striking the ground sooner than they should. You didn't notice it while you were walking but now that you're moving faster-

The next patch nearly throws you, but you're a Minnesotan. You might not be a hockey nut like your brother and sister, but you can skate. And you've had more than a few games of tag on top of frozen ponds. It'll take more than that to knock you on your ass.

Which is when you turn the corner and get knocked on your ass.

By a giant Ice Phantom.

A hovering tag with an HP bar attached helpfully declare it to be Frozen Sentry. Rather than having sane thoughts like 'Oh God, it's a giant ice monster' or 'Dear Fucking Lord, is that blood dripping out of it's mouth', your first reaction is 'I have a HUD, that's weird' combined with a sort of disappointment that this is just a reskin and resizing of an older enemy type.

Then it roars at you like the T-Rex out of Jurassic Park, and those sane thoughts nearly have you paralyzed.

Behind it, the original moaning sound that drew you into the alley comes again from an old looking man in a brown coat.

[ ] NOPE! Execute plan VAMOOSE!
[ ] Shit, you can't just leave the old guy there to die! Maybe you can get past this thing somehow?
[ ] Wait. If you're "Kaya", then maybe... (Dice Will Be Rolled)

I just rolled these. Hope they help.

Well, the first roll was to determine whether or not you'd be able to intuit magic.

Since you failed that, the Sentry gets an attack of opportunity. Which got a 98.

Your dodge/defensive roll was... not that great.

Sooo...

Did my rolls just end the quest before it even begin, or what?

If my dice rolls really did cause this quest to die, may I respectfully request said dice rolls be ignored, and story just moves on? The idea behind this quest is awesome, and if my rolls killed this quest that would suck.

You should probably roll your own dice from now on, though, Shaderic. To prevent my fatal dice, or anyone else's, from causing such a thing again.

Please don't let this awesome quest die due to my bad roll!

Maybe you can retoractively apply some Bonuses to the character?

Like this Char has like a plus 30 to magic related to learning? OR plus twenty to dodg?E

Guys we are a level 50. Even a enemy level 50 that got a crit will NOT kill us. Expect nasty status effects since its Ice and all.

Not to mention that even if we die the only think that will happen is that we'll respawn at the last Cathedral.

Sorry it took so long.

The new episode came out, gave me stuff to think about, and then I learned some more interesting things about Elder Tale's world.

_____________________________________________________

Somehow, with a giant monster screaming in your face, you somehow have an idea. Somehow, some way, you are Kaya. However that works. You lost your height. You lost a couple of other important things.

But there's got to be some sort of trade off, right? You didn't just get a funny set of ears out of this, right?

Kaya was a level 50 Sorceress.

Hopefully, you've got at least a little bit of that.

The thought brings up what looks like a control menu, but you can't quite figure out-

And then the Sentry punches you in the face with a giant frozen fist, knocking you head over tail (and holy shit, you have one of those) into wall. Which you promptly crash through.

Your first thought, is best expressed as a very long chain of expletives as your body now feels like a gigantic bruise. Your second one, is confusion. That hurt like a son of a bitch, but…

You have to struggle a bit to stand up.

But you can stand back up.

A not insignificant portion of your brain says you should be in a lot more pain then you really are right now, and that you should probably have broken bones, internal bleeding, cuts, and several other unpleasant things that are generally indicative of the wounds normal people take when getting tossed through walls.

You though?

Apart from feeling sore all over, you're still relatively capable.

A little screen with your name on it floats unobtrusively in your vision.

Huh.

That took out about a third of your hit points.

But your MP is still full.

The Frozen Sentry has apparently either reached the end of it's tether, or just decided you're no longer worth it, because it's turning around to face the guy back in the alley.

[ ] What do you do?

Also, pick a favored element, and one to drop.

[ ] Fire (Focused on DoT and AoE, low DPS, low cost)
[ ] Ice (High DPS, primarily single Single Target, medium cost)
[ ] Lightning (Medium DPS, but has Target and Chain spells, chance to cause paralysis, high cost)

[X] Keep at it, you aren't down yet. Pepper it with spells while Kiting!

Favoured
[X] Ice

Drop

Really questioning why you'd choose a caster if all you want to do is ranged DPS.
Seems kind of pointless to me.

[X] Plan Bii
[X] Move about and see if you can get into a position where you can snipe at it safely. You DID just lose a third of your HP.

Watch as the next area is a Volcanic Plasma zone.

It takes a few button pushes, and a little scrolling, but you manage to find your PvE macros.

Lightning Crash, then Lightning Chamber alternating with Flare Arrow.

In simpler terms, paralyze, then murder.

You hesitate for a second before triggering it. These are just buttons in a menu. There's no targeting, no Tab key, and you're not quite sure how this is all going to work.

The Sentry drifts towards the poor guy still in the alley, and you run out of time to think.

You hit the button.

And then your body goes on full autopilot.

The sky cracks, and your hand surges straight up, just in time to catch something. It dances around and through your hand, pouring crackling energy into your entire body. The Sentry turns, but your arm has already fallen into a locked and ready position pointing straight at it.

And a single glorious bolt of lightning turns everything white. Then the thunder almost renders you deaf, before your other hand shoves an open palm forward, sending a flaming missile forward that practically sears your fingertips.

The Sentry has just enough time to start screaming from the Lightning Chamber, before it's disintegrated by the Flare arrow.

A cheerful little popup announces how much EXP you got from the encounter, as the adrenaline starts to leave you.

Your hands tingle a bit, as the leftover bits of the paralysis buff you got from the Crash wear off, with tiny sparks jumping off your finger tips.

At this point, the old man moans again, letting you know you're not alone.

You rush over to check on him, and almost immediately wish you hadn't. One entire side of his coat is stained red with blood, and his face has a few bruises. But your eyes go back to crimson darkening his coat. He can't have much more time.
