Extended Business Trip (Arknights/Youjo Senki [Manga])

Not to take away from your point that it's mostly not even Tanja's fault this time, I'd argue that Tanya never really comes to crazy conclusions. She applies paradigms that she's learnt without nuance or flexibility, and the result is that the otherwise logical modelling is completely off.
Yeah, no. She applies "good office worker = promoted to more important office worker" to "good soldier = promoted to ... oh, wait "more important soldier" is on entirely different promotion track to "rearline officer"". That's like expecting to be a good plumber and get office job in result, no you will be just sent to clean more important toilets. Basic logic failure.

Yes, there are "if everybody was rational actor" mistakes, but basic analysis failures are just as often.

Yeah, no. You don't expect a good sergeant to be writing essays on logistics nor do you bring them in to hear their thoughts on grand strategy lol.

She shows off this kind of knowledge in all sorts of places, from Vol 3 all the way through to Vol 16. You're being disingenuous. They keep her on the frontlines because whenever some hesitant and sympathetic mid-level officer thinks of speaking on her behalf, she ultra-jingos them so hard that they feel inspired and ashamed by her patriotism and dedication and forget about treating her like a child.

Thing is - it's not only about skill, it's about attitude. And "GUNG HO GET 'EM ALL" that she shows is exactly soldier attitude, not officer one. Unless officer is very green... but she came through combat and doubled down on attitude.

They pegged her as "frontline commander" type and she did everything fit that hole.

First of all, supposing you're actually correct and this is some universal rule in all military cultures across all of time, Tanya has no way of knowing that. She was a Japanese salaryman. They don't tend to have a lot of contact with the military.

It's perfectly reasonable to expect your company to assign you to do what you're good at. Tanya was showing off good skills for an officer in the rear all the time at the start of her career with that expectation in mind. Unfortunately for her, in companies with good work culture, they'll respect your wishes on what you prefer to work on to a degree. The Imperial Military just had unexpectedly good work culture, and she wasn't a slouch on the frontlines either.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. It's not really the place for this conversation, and I think we've established our respective arguments pretty thoroughly.

Here's an idea for in game Operator Tanja.

6* Supporter, a decel binder maybe?

Her talent grants a good bonus to defense and arts resistance to all allies in her range.

Skill2 boosts her talent and expands her range, slowing enemies and giving allies a second health shield on cast. She stops attacking while the skill is active. Staple skill, press button and operators basically receive no damage at M3 - defensive unga bunga.

Skill3 is called Relapse. Tanja becomes a long range very high DPS sniper that deals both physical and arts damage for 30 seconds before being removed from the field. Because Tanja suddenly snaps and decides that the best defense is killing all the attackers. Her voice lines become crazy while skill is active (Aoi Yuki pls). Melts Bosses at M3 but requires set up ahead of time. Fan favorite meme skill.

At E2, gains Talent2 - if SP bar is full Attacks deal 130% damage and slow is increased by 10%.

Question - did you thought about place in timeline for Acquisition and Cultivation Procedures for Non-Infected Personnel aka Holy Knight Light? Because I really want to see Tanya's reaction to "my life sucks now so I stopped give a fuck about things like what I supposed to do... or at all" Stealthy Bear Chibi.

welp, this fic just made me download a gatcha game, I hope you're happy, (I can't wait for more, should I get acquantied with the characters or were going to be seeing OC's?)
Since this is a story focused on one person, it's hard to get the coverage that you might want. There's a huge cast, after all.

That said, I wouldn't be writing this if I wasn't going to include my personal favourite operators lol.

Also yes, I am happy. When I first quit Fire Emblem Heroes I was adamant that I wouldn't touch another gacha game, but then my long-time friend and colleague wheedled me into playing Arknights since it'd just come out.

She's not playing anymore. I still am. I don't even regret it lol, it's so good.

Yeah, they just peaced out. It does mean a less bloodied Reunion is on the way to Lungmen though.
Wouldn't they still have a lot of casualties from the Catastrophe? My impression from the game was that the overwhelming majority of Reunion deaths came from getting crushed by the Originium rain instead of Rhodes Island.
Is it because Rhodes killed trained Reunion forces rather than the mostly civilian mob that assaulted the city?

I don't think the Catastrophe actually killed all that many people, Reunion or otherwise. Mostly it was just a means of infecting all the cocky Chernobogians with Oripathy, and was definitely part of Reunion's plan. The game mentions some of the survivors in a different side story iirc.

Great fic, looking forward to the future of this fic despite a few issues regarding timelines and what people could be reasonably publicly known about Rhodes Island.
Only sparing a moment to lock the door behind me, I left my hotel room and made for the stairs. In the emergency stairwell, I came across others who had left their hotel rooMiss I didn't know if they had made the same calculations, but I was in no mood to care.
Think half a sentence was eaten here.
I was already in a foul mood from the pain. When I spotted some white-haired brat looking like he was having much too much fun at my expense, I curved the truck around magic attacks and aimed for him. I had only just knocked the little hoodlum into a street light when I sensed a projectile shatter my shell.
While my initial thought was that Mephisto was killed and what butterflies could be set in motion by that, Mephisto's healing arts and Terra's general durability means he'll survive.
They had thousands of staff, a mobile headquarters, and an impressive security team that boasted veteran fighters who fought with zeal and fervour. None of that came easily, nor cheaply. It was obvious that a lot of capital had gone into starting this company.
I'd assume that some connection to Theresa would be known to the public, if in a 'Theresa was working on an Oripathy Research and Treatment organisation, which fled at the conclusion of the Kazdel Civil War and some desperate mergers led to it transforming into Rhodes Island', which explains why a few people like Kal'sit is working there, while people don't know that its more or less Theresa's inner circle under a new name.
EDIT: Also, it seems that Amiya was the only person who knew that she'd inherited the mantle of the Lord of Fiends, since even Kal'sit is shocked when its revealed by Patriot.
The company had ridden the Victorian expansion to prosperity, and then declined along with it. When Kazdel occupied Londinium, the true head office fell out of prominence, while the branches, actually subsidiaries for tax purposes, began to compete.
Kazdel only occupied Londonium a month before Chapter 10, a few months after Chapter 9, which I understood took place after the capture of Tabulah at the end of Shatter of A Vision (plus the occupation is only implied to have just started in Spark in the Darkness in November 1097, since the local duke is only just moving his forces to help the siege). So Kazdel shouldn't have occupied Londinium for a better part of 6ish month.
{After looking for a timeline I found that this is apparently wrong, and the occupation doesn't start until November or December 1097 (with Chapters 9 and 10 starting in January and July 1098 respectively) while Chapter Two starts in early January of the same year (1097). Though Timeline stuff in Arknights is really dodgy with intentional ambiguity mixed with poor translation, this Timeline is apparently the most 'official' community timeline (it's in text form, though broken up into chapters, plus beware apparent spoilers for CN)}.

Year 1094: The Duke Stamford starts a rebellion in Londinium with his army. He assails Parliament Square with his cannons, fighting the Londinium Garrison. The Duke Cavendish's army arrives outside the walls of Londinium in response to Stamford's plot. Heidi leaves the city with critical information as the battle between the two ducal armies rages for one day. The sounds of cannon fire end with the citizenry of Londinium finding their city was now occupied by the mercenary army of the Kazdel Military Commission. The Sarkaz were invited to the city at the behest of the Duke Cavendish. Both he and the Duke Stamford were killed in their battle for the city, leaving it vulnerable.
They haven't cited anything, but the opening of 11-2 says,

This is the conflict that culminates in one of the dukes inviting Kazdel in.

That's what I'm going with, so if you have evidence to the contrary, please link. To be frank though, if my timelines do turn out to be wrong, I am in all likelihood just going to drop this story and try writing something else.

Apologies, Not up to date on Chapter 11 and only read the Shadow of a Dying Sun section on the timeline; that it's apparently contradictory to other stuff is annoying (though I suppose it could be squared that the forces in Chapter 10 were the official occupation by the Kazdel Military Commission, while it was only an army of secretly controlled mercs earlier, maybe they switched sides to the Duke of Londonium after Duke Cavendish died).

That Oren says (in 1098) during Guiding Ahead (which should be well after the end of Part 2, considering how fast it seems to moving) that things are heating up in Londonium would imply the occupation was being prepared, not that tensions are still high if the occupation has ended or still ongoing. Which really pisses me off.

Also, don't bother trying to keep the timeline 100% accurate, especially in Arknights. I just mentioned those references because they seemed wrong and could be replaced easily with general civil strife in Londonium/Victoria.

Plus, did I misread or didn't Tanya say that she was going to take the Mining Exec with her from the alley? I couldn't see any more references to him afterwards. EDIT: I did, she was too injured and couldn't take him with her (I think), though it isn't entirely clear.

Mmn, I don't think it could be that simply replaced. At some point justifications just stop making sense.

And yeah, while I love the way Arknights presents its stories to us out of chronological order, it does make writing fanfic for it a pain.

Half the time you don't even know if operators available on launch are even part of Rhodes Island as of the latest Main Theme chapter lol.

All I can tell that the role the occupation currently serves in the plot is that Londonium's instability means that Tanya's company's main office is losing influence and causing the branch offices to compete to gain pre-eminence within the company, and thus willing to reach for more risky investments like Rhodes Island. Victoria/Londonium just needs to be somewhat unstable for the branch offices to want to compete to gain prestige within the company.

Of course, I don't know your plans for the future; Londonium being occupied by Kazdel might be critically to the near-future plots you have planned.

Saying that, I don't believe that following a canon timeline is that important for a Gacha Game fanfic, so long as it makes sense within the confines of your story, so massaging plots to get characters in the right place for what you want to do. I only mentioned Kazdel occupying Londonium so early in the timeline because it seemed to contradict my understanding of canon completely. That you have quotes backing up your interpation, combined with the intentional ambiguity and mistranslations of canon, leads me to concede the argument to you.
