General chat thread

Been awhile since I read Three Body Problem. Got the audio book. I had forgotten that the novel opens with a physicist being beaten to death with belts wielded by junior high school girls.

Consider replacing your favorite recliner with a hammock stand. Yes it takes up a bit more real estate but it's easy to clean under and it's so comfortable to just lie in and watch TV on. I have reclined in several positions and it's always beaten the comfort of even the softest recliners. Plus on hot summer days there is plenty of air flow so you keep cool and don't get all sweaty.

Hammocks are for outside.

So glad it's getting warmer, I can sleep out there again.

I also feel they serve a different purpose compared to a recliner. I feel it would be pretty hard to have dinner and watch the game from a hammock.

Not as much as you might think. I have a hammock stand that came with a Colombian hammock and there's plenty of room if I sit in the middle, lean back and keep my legs in a comfortable v-shape.

Listening to The Dark Forest before bed, and man, The Wallfacer Project is some flat out crazy shit. "Let's give these four guys the power, enforced by law, to do whatever they think is right without explaining themselves, ever. Hopefully, they'll save the world."

I had forgotten how far into the Uncanny Valley the various world leaders and other assorted minions got when dealing with Luo Ji when he was made a Wallfacer.

I've never really used hammocks, ever since I got a surplus MSS, I just sleep on the ground like damn grunt. Hope it holds up 'cause I'm hitching west come summertime. This community I live in has gotten too crazy this year, can't take it anymore.

and aka Egyptian Hieroglyph D052 and Egyptian Hieroglyph D053.

Reached the part in The Dark Forest audiobook where the Fleet International sets out from the Jupiter base to confront the Trisolaran probe, the triumphant narration, the people reveling in the streets and hyping themselves up about how invulnerable humanity is and how the invaders have no choice but to negotiate.

And bros for centuries Luo Ji and Da Shi, just kinda... hanging out.

Like they knew on some level what was coming...

Listening to the Death's End audiobook is hilarious, especially with a buzz. Listening to the narration try to describe something indescribable (four macroscopic physical dimensions) and fail completely just makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.

...It just came to me that Powerpuff Girls is a giant shitpost.

You know, I used to hate the new Lola bunny. But she grew on me before I stopped watching the show all together.

Her clips also make for the perfect Daisy.

A neat trick with printers:

The situation: my employer printed out a bunch of flyers with a schedule for upcoming events. Certain important events were highlighted in yellow. However, someone made a mistake with printing, and many of the flyers were printed without the highlighting.

So I was assigned to go through and manually highlight the events. Rather than manaully highlighting several dozen papers, I used a printer to put ink on the papers en masse. I took a blank piece of paper and traced over a flyer, marking boxes where I needed to highlight. Then I colored yellow on the spaces where needed. I put the mostly-blank piece of paper in to be copied, and the flyers that needed highlighting in the feeder. Then, the printer put yellow ink on all the papers for me.

Weird that Atelier doesn't have a thread here.
Atelier is in this weird place of being really influential but having barely any fanworks. If you go to a booru or nhentai you'll find barely anything, especially stuff made pre-Ryza.

There's plenty of video games and LNs that have aspects that are clearly inspired by Atelier though.

Did the owner have really aggressive lawyers or something?

I know that something similar happened with a lack of fanworks for the hugely influential Interview with a Vampire series because of the owner's litigation fetish.
