General chat thread

Been watching a bit of Tubi the last couple of days and it's a great place to find old school schlock movies.

The Sword and the Sorcerer, The Dunwich Horror (1970 and 2008), etc...

I'm once again reminded:

You know that bit from Labyrinth? And half a dozen other stories?

The riddle where you wind up at a fork in the road, with two people. You can ask each one question, and one always tells the truth while the other always lies.

The technically correct answer is "If you were the other, which path would you say is the correct one?" and the liar points to the wrong path because the honest one would point to the correct path, while the honest one points to the same path because he knows the liar would lie and say the wrong path is the right one. So you go the other way.

Seems simple enough.

Well yes, but actually no. In any practical situation, encountering two riddlers at a fork in the path is weird and suspicious. If you're indeed questing, they were likely both sent by your villain.

So the actual answer is that they're BOTH lying. Also entirely possible that both paths are wrong and there's a third path, either oblique or counter-intuitive, especially when dealing with things like Fae (again, Labyrinth,) where the shortest distance between two points may not in fact be a line.

I mean, you don't normally see puzzles and riddles in a straightforward 'slay the dragon' type of quest. Those are more commonly found when the quest is to prove you're worthy of something, like a magic item or sigil of authority. Proving you're clever helps prove you'll use the reward wisely.

On the other hand, given how ubiquitous the two guards puzzle is, that's still valid. The person who uses the tried-and-true solution isn't demonstrating actual cleverness, they're just relying on other peoples' wisdom. So they get found unworthy and are punished.

Personally, I've always found the best answer to fuck up the rote reply is 'I don't know.' The liar knows what the honest guard will say, so it's a lie; the honest guard doesn't know what lie the liar will tell, so it's the truth.

I accidentally unsubscribed from QQ on my Emails and now I don't get email notifs though I'm pretty sure my settings say I should, anyone know how to help?

Wasn't really sure where to post this...

Watching The Warrior and the Sorceress right now and in addition to the amazing four breasted stripper/assassin who really did look like she had four breasts, Maria Sorcas did not once wear shoes or have her breasts covered.

Amazing stuff.

Also, David Carradine was in it. Had some decent swordfight choreography at the end.

I've put my 1OkayBlock app to make it so I can't access a number of manga sites

I have already amassed a large number of download reaching almost 4TB

Now, my intention is only to read completed series. Mostly because I hate waiting for the next chapter, every week

Watching 1978 Dawn of the Dead and in the beginning, when the main characters are getting ready to leave in the helicopter, some other guy who's gonna be heading out by boat asks them if they have any cigarettes and everyone in the chopper shakes their head and tells 'em no.

He leaves and they take off and immediately light up some cigarettes. 🤣

Now, for an actual example of simple yet filling slavic cuisine, may I present upon thee the dish of Krajanki

Get a stick or two of sausage, slice them up into slices. The actual width of them doesn't matter.
Get like 3 large potatoes, or maybe 6 medium sized ones, or whatever. Slice them up into slices.
Get 2 large onions, or maybe 4 smaller ones, or whatever. The ratio doesn't actually matter, as long as you have these ingredients you are good. Just remember to slice them up.

Heat up a frying pan, put some oil, or lard, or beef tallow, or whatever, as long as the pan has some fat in it, just heat it up until it's nice and sizzling.

Dump all the sliced sausage, potatoes and onions into the pan. Stir it every now and again so it doesn't carbonize or something. Add some salt an pepper to taste if you want. Cook on low heat from now on.

If you are feeling really fancy, add some diced garlic, maybe marjoram, or whatever herbs and spices you've had hiding in the back of your cupboard.

After an hour of cooking, the dish is ready to serve. Cook longer if the potato isn't crumbling yet. It's a simple meal of potato, onion and sausage, but very filling and rich in fat that will see you through the cold winter nights.

I've been told it goes well with a tall glass of milk as well. Not to my taste, but try it out.

Oh I just love it when you go to get on a website and it is down. Fiction.live is the website in question.

I'm thinking of getting my testosterone levels checked, but I am afraid it will affirm some of my health issues

I workout, but I don't want to abandon food that actually tastes nice and I just get too gassy with vegetables

hey, at least your internet didn't go down due to unexpected solar flares. That's what happened to Africa about two days ago.
A flood once blocked of access to my town for several days. The power was also out for about a day and a half. I quickly learned way people used to go to bed when the sun went down. It is super boring not being able to see anything.

Reaction content is usually the equivalent of empty calories or worse, but watching a guy who's both a phd in Physics and a huge scifi/fantasy/horror enthusiast (including writing his own original works) watch 3 Body Problem is pretty entertaining.

Got new medication due to my allergies

I am not as acidic as before, but the parts around my throat swell up frequently

It makes breathing harder

I think my immune system went down

I'm thinking of moving the rewritten chapters of one of my fics to a new thread, since the Extras are cluttered with old and outdated stuff and I can't use it to make new omakes.

So I notice that Ao3 has "American Sign Language" as an option on the language filter.

Anyone ever seen a fanfic there written in American Sign Language?

That almost seems like the inverse of that one Family Guy bit where Peter was a "Braille Speaker".

Is it just each letter is individually replaced with a hand symbol, or is there more technical variation for things like whole words?
