Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Chp-50: The Governor's Pitch

Moff Aren Hiral
Myto Sector, Dubrillion system, Dubrillion
New favorite chapter for this alone. No longer having to rummage through chapters looking for the Moff and Capital World name.
The Empire as a whole was in full alert, and the Grand Moff had insisted on upping production in every sector possible.

The old coot was surely looking to gain more political clout.
Ah yes, when a solid chunk of your military explodes, the first thing one should think when production orders go up is "political game". Not say, the whole chunk of the military exploding and further factories start exploding this year.

Moff Hiral might not be a lazy tub of lard the old Moff was, but that still doesn't mean he is competent. Just a schemer liable to get fired, out an airlock, when one of his schemes goes awry.
Hiral considered this. Mola was a name he remembered as being part of that whole pirate gang fiasco that had raised him to his current position. A fairly successful planetary governor.
Turns podunk system into a shining gem of the sector.

"Ah yes, slightly above mediocre in terms of ability."

Remember that Imperial success is measured by the prestige of your post and how scared everyone is of crossing you. Las fits neither of these categories at the moment.
"You said you had an opportunity, Governor?" He cut straight to the chase. It had been a long day, and frankly speaking he had no patience for fools or sycophants at the moment.
Las might be a fool, but at least he can back up his foolishness.
"In regards to staffing, we would be looking into hiring the core staff from Rothana itself. From there, as the shipyards are towed, they would train new staff in the smaller shipyards here on Minda as preparation.
Las might be underestimating the sheer amount of people from Rothana who will be begging to be taken along to Minda. Las will be taking the cornerstone of the planet's economy away.

Rothana is going to plummet into a deep recession when this deal hits. Shipping the factory output to the system shipyard is a world of difference compared to shipping your output to a shipyard a sector over.

I imagine a lot of money will be directed to Kuat. Probably citing "vital repairs" to the Kuat Shipyard after it gets bombed this year. Remember, if it involves Kuat's precious shipyards, everyone else can take a hike out an airlock.

The workers will be throwing themselves at the bureaucrats to try and fit in that "core staff" category. Stopping stowaways is going to be a full time job for the guards.
"Yes sir. It was calculated that we could hire 3 teams of 3 for around 5 months to tow the berths, and then only two teams would be needed for the remaining two berths. A total cost of around 55,000,000 credits in total. Of course, the MSDF can provide the escorts as well."
Getting that first ship out before the year is done would be one heck of a feather in both Las' and the Moff's hat. 55 mil is also a drop in the bucket given they were discussing billons of credits for the actual deal. Also those escorts are basically free cross galaxy advertising campaign for the Minda's new ships like the TIE variants.
Won't it still take years for it to produce ships? Wait, how long does Kuat need to pump out Star Destroyers anyways?
Ehhhh, depends on some factors. Negotiating the contract and specifications, waiting for an appropriate space to open up and laying down the berth, getting the materials shipped in on the timetable, allocating the workers and specialist hours as opposed to all the other projects, and adjusting for any changes in requirements or unforeseen circumstances.

Any one of these gets disrupted and that's months to a ships build time. I think a solid hundred Star Destroyers were just sitting around in Kuat unfinished due to the rawmat shortage in 1ABY.

Kuat's strength isn't in its absolute advantage in shipbuilding, although it does have that as well. It is in the fact that it has an orbital ring spanning the whole planet. With enough berths to pump out a thousand ships concurrently in the time it takes another shipyard to pump out five.

I appreciate that you went through so much research and lore to better make a coherent narrative. But low key, this is a fanfic. You could've most definitely made up a hyperspace tugship and I don't think anyone would've had a major issue with it. The galaxy is vast and there are far more varieties of ships than are displayed in canon and legends lore. But thanks for the hard work.

I'm sure Rothana Heavy Engineering will be praising the Myto Sector for giving them a chance at economic salvation. It's just too bad that Commodore Veers is still not yet ready or able to command an Imperial-class Star Destroyer since RHE was not part of Kuat's means of producing them. Just hold on Veers, you will get your chance.

Speaking of Veers, whatever happened with Commander Grant? Haven't yet found out what her reaction to Alderaan's destruction was. Well, considering that Las hasn't heard of any gruesome deaths among the Imperial personnel, we can take that as a good thing, but I would rather there be confirmation before the troops and citizens can let their guard down.

I would definitely love to see Las start turning out Acclamators from his shipyards but I don't think that's going to happen.
Don't count out the Acclamators yet. While I do agree that large-scale production of Acclamators is unlikely, there is potential in the ship itself, even in limited quantities.

Remember the Acclamator-II? That was done after stripping out the excess cargo and troop bays for more guns, power generation, shielding and armor, and that resulted in turning a transport into an armed Heavy Frigate. Building off from this, there is also evidence that Accalamators were modified by using the excess cargo space to make carrier variants.

With these examples in mind, maybe making them as mobile command centers or even hospital ships are possible too! The variant possibilities are endless, and that is just for the Acclamator alone, and the Empire does make extensive use of multi-role ships, right? Shame Las is only getting the Rothana shipyards and not any ground-based production. RHE made the AT walker line for the Clone Wars and even the LAAT, but ships are still good and are arguably more important at this point in time.

Why bother bringing the shipyards to Minda? Send the tugs to Coruscant and ram them into the planet...for the Empire!

huh..... been reading this for a couple months just to discover today I had wandered into the SFW section. :V

I literally had to scroll up to double check, and you're right. What does it say about QQ that I only read the SFW section by accident? What does that say about me?

It actually explains a lot though. Like how the interactions and POV sections between Las and his sisters have been oddly wholesome compared to what I'm used to on QQ. Huh... weird.

To be fair, this fic DID originally start out in tbe NSFW section before the Author moved it here. Not sure why be started it out in NSFW beyond feeling he was expected to.

According to the star wars wiki / fandom page for RHE, RHE did produce larger destroyers / battleships as the Clone Wars went on. So it's possible that the RHE shipyards might have copies of the Venator/Venator 2 and/or Victory/Victory 2 blueprints along with most Republic Clone Wars era ships produced by KDY and ships built by KDY for the Empire. Getting a license to produce copies of those ships would be useful. Heck, updated Pelta-class frigates and/or Raider-class corvettes would be useful ships to get into mass production because they would be useful as anti-fighter/anti-pirate ships. Possibly getting a production license for Marauder-class corvettes might be useful as well.

TftC!

"Oioro's going to be heading negotiations with KDY"

Does anyone else think they are going to get the shipyards, component factories, and personnel extremely cheaply (credit wise) for his spy secretary calling in various markers or licenses that Thrawn had?

It started out here in the SFW section then got moved to the NSFW section under advisement from the readers so the fic could get more traffic, of course in typical QQ fashion the moment Las did not immediately bang every woman in the vicinity some readers got pissed and the author moved it back here.

Damn this is honestly a pretty likeable boss.
The Moff? He's just smart enough to realize he gets better results by giving competent subordinates a longer leash and trusting them to know how to do their job well.

.......Shit, by Imperial standards he just might be material for boss of the year.

Exactly. Truly by imperial standards this guy is the GOAT. So reasonable, so cool.

Regardless, this deal was quite good. Mola seemed a competent Governor, and Aren knows full well the foolishness of alienating competent subordinates.

"Hmmm…fine. Those terms are agreeable. I approve of this endeavor." He leaned forward, resting his chin on the platform of his interlaced fingers, propped up by his elbows.
All according to cake, cake means plan :D

Incorrect. I started in NSFW because there will be gore in the future, and because everyone posts in the NSFW thread regardless. However, in an authors note, I mentioned there would be no smut. A mod then moved it here because there will be no smut. I haven't bothered trying to correct them.

The Minda system will end up as the unofficial capital of the Outer Rim lmao, with how it's building up. Capable of anything and ever-growing population and profit !

With the migrant crisis approaching (from those that flee from the Core), will he put them planetside or take the opportunity to build habitable space stations ?

Thank you for writing !

so if las is taking the shipyard and all the industry connected? or even if its just he shipyards will all the people who work in the connected industry's move to minda?

so all the suppliers /buyers/ merchant guilds/ restaurant chains/glass works / furniture stores/electricians/metal factories etc move with the yards?

sooo how quickly can las build like 50 million homes?

oh and https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Carrion_Spike is this ship built yet?

Oioro is a rare case. An outsider who isn't impressed by Kuat's lustrous history, and realizes they are self-centered and self serving jerks. So just like back the Ascendancy.

Minda and Edin have way more room to grow than the current capital of Myto, Dubrillion. Dubrillion gets its money from tourism, and you can only build so many casinos and hotels before the profit margins start falling off.

M&E on the other hand are focused on industry, which can scale much better. Especially once those wartime contracts hit and all of the jobs start pouring in.
With the migrant crisis approaching (from those that flee from the Core), will he put them planetside or take the opportunity to build habitable space stations ?
Las: "I have tightened migration to ensure internal security."

*Clink*

Las: "However there are these special visas for those affected by the ongoing war."

You know it's funny, I don't think anyone has tried to bribe Las yet. I can see him rejecting things like pirates or slavers setting up shop, but what about corporate gift giving? Guess Las hasn't hit the big time yet.
I believe this got built already and that one Rebel already took it for his murder joyride. It gets "recovered" around 3BBY and should be in RHE's hanger currently damaged as its owner Tarkin just went kablooie.

Of course, he's building a ringworld. (In Minda, he has two habitable planets if necessary.)

I'm not sure why, in an scenario where the empire is increasing their contracts for military hardware, KDY would even consideer selling some shipyards. Even if they are a subsidiary in the ass end of nowhere, wouldn't they need everything they can to increase production?

Rothana is not in the ass end of nowhere, it's in THE ass end of nowhere (by design since it was supposed to be a secret blacksite far from politics be they internal ot external), it's beyond the galactic disk and has a complicated security network (that the disney canon ignored completly in favour of making a silly short story about tarkin's personal corvette getting hijacked) i bet it would cost Kuat more to ship the resources there (while simultaneously compromising the integrity of it's defense meaning the only reason they bothered to maintain it is now gone) and whatever they might be capable of making from contracts would be insufficient to justify taking them, to Kuat it's a loss and since they have a massive ring around their planet dedicated to making ships (these fuckers managed to (almost) build the Eclipse 1 there, in SECRET, you know the 17,5km ship with a superlaser that only got discovered because Tyber-Gary Zann-Stuu needed it's navicomputer data, btw why the hell would the eclipse 1 have any of the data regarding palp's secret safehouses, that's the stuff you add after it's finished) the 20 berths described in the chapter are laughably inconsequential to them even if we assume they can build something bigger than an Acclamator and weren't left behind due to the cost of transporting them and adding them to the Kuat ring being far too big compared to whatever it was that the Kuati took from Rothana

Hire from where? OHNOES, the educated and motivated ppl flock from squeezing core to some no-name system in the rim...

He didnt catch the slip. And he never will.

Too bad, the dude didnt know, the Empire was already on deathbed.

Thats the fun part. If you cant produce ships of the current leading corp, just produce one from the enemy. And they do have schematics for cr90 and other, pre-Empire ships.
Are they good? So-so.
And Moff forgot, Minda has its own, in-house R&D kitchen which will produce new schematics.
Just a point of fact. Do you have any idea how many component parts are inside something the size of a star destroyer (compare it to one of those American AirCraft Carriers and multiply it by a lot)? Add to the fact that nearly every part would have been part of a Patent by a corporation. That is a lot of liscenses you need to get access to.
