Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Watching as Las accidentally creates the Schola Progenium.

At the the mention of laxing loyalty courses and the ISB, I too said "Let them in". It would be the perfect combination of getting troops up to muster quickly, and the ISB gets to play spy and rat catcher, and possibly points of recruitment and spy insertion.

This might actually add an extra smokescreen for Las' protection. His governance model that contradicted the Tarkin doctrine at the start turned heads, but once they saw the credits rolling and the tithes arrive on time and in full, he was given a pass. His aggressive yet smooth expansion on industrial and spaceship construction through his Guild, let him pass when it was clear that the economic and political apparatus was merely there for money, not some laundering scheme.

And now the snakes in the ISB will set up nests to root out rats, and as Las' sector churns out excess troops and sailors everyone needs, people from other sectors will flock to fill the population gap, feeding the ISB with more paths to follow if they catch suspicious people and trace back their path.
Sasuga Las-Sama, truly he is a genius that surpasses all others, who else would be worthy of claiming the thrown once the Emperor slips off his chair and into the bottomless vent shaft that is in his room for some reason... they really need some OSHA in the Empire, so many health and safely violations.

I must admit, I don't know how high a position the Moff rank is, and I can't tell how many systems Las is in charge of. Does anyone have a clue, or at least can give me a short, detailed description?
I think it's fairly high since there only are the grand moffs above him
However with the size of the galaxy, there are many like him and with more important systems too
Like kuat and corellia

There are approximately 1000-1500 people who officially are on level if not outright outrank him in the galaxy (from what I can recall so feel free to fact check me)....since well Palpatine did just disband the senate in a New Hope and all.... Realistically there are far more due to tycoons and the networking/politics of the Empire but basically 10k-20k people with the pull in a galaxy with trillions of sapients is pretty damn good.

Before Palpy took over and allowed new sectors to be formed, there were 1024. I cant find a hard number in the Imperial era, but even if we assume a ten fold increase, that's still tens if millions of star systems he controls, though most are unpopulated. In disney canon, there's still 1024.

Plus there's only two ranks (nominally at least) higher than him. Grand Moff and Emperor. Unofficially, high ranking military people and certain individuals who report directly to the emperor could boss him around, but that list is very small.

Basically, less than two thousand people in the galaxy are his peers, and at most there are a few dozen people he can't tell to fuck off. Of the characters we see in the actual movies, the later consist of Palpy, Vader, and Tarkin. And Tarkin is dead at this point in the story.

So las is Cutting down on indoctrination to slot in Mandalorian trainers on top of clone veteran teachers already at the academy's?

What else can we pile onto the academy's to make the troops absurdly good? 🤣

How far is the Guild to spread into the Outer Rim before things go tits up? Las could probably get the old CIS factory's up and running again to produce weapons for him if he tries.

If I remember correctly Las's sister complained about MI being cut out, so he could try to get them to run checks on the academy's he is making, to get in good with them for when thing's kick off.
You want the organization run by a psycho imperial cultists who will also release a plague on the galaxy for failing her god Palpatine in the future to have anything to do with Las's plans on cutting down imperial indoctrination to speed up trooper training times and cram in more useful skills?
No, absolutely not!

Target practice? Eye exams? "How to adjust your blaster sights" as mandatory reading?

To be fair all stormtroopers shown in the OG trilogy performed better than the kids sent off to Vietnam by a considerable margin. If anything they aren't missing enough and are conserving ammo far too heavily. Surpassing fire seems to be entirely absent as far as concepts are concerned.

Obi Wan even mentions that the massacre at the farm was done too precisely/efficiently by the troopers.

Think of it in the same measure as WH40K, every world has a planetary governor like how Las started, then he got promoted to a Moff that controls a subsector or multiple systems worth of planets with many governors under him. Then you got Kaine who controls the Oversector, like a Segmentum in terms of territory to control, that represents a large chunk of the Empire.

Las in terms of power is really up there, not only did he purge most of the offices and governors and replace them with, what are essentially his polity in the Oversector, but he is highly favored by Hiral and Kaine, while being the main shipwright of the Oversector.

Well, that probably because Storm Troopers were allowed to actually attack the enemy and return fire, which is more than what our boys in Vietnam were allowed. And I do mean allowed. The Fat Man has a brief explanation that touches on some of it, but not nearly all of it. Some got really fucking stupid.

I was referencing more along the lines of accuracy and why we went from round targets to silhouettes on the shooting range.

Oh yeah and that is because Politicians got involved you will notice that since the advent of the radio absolutely every war managed by civilian politicians has turned to shit...this is not a coincidence. Generals for instance in the US have to be approved by congress critters to obtain their rank because in theory they are supposed to be able to sign ceasefires and even lesser treaties/agreements independently and dictate terms...that power has fallen by the wayside in modern times since the advent of the radio with civilian command superceding strategic/tactical considerations on the battlefield.

So for this fic, a Moff is a little tyrant, controlling one (sometimes more though its rare) sector and having jurisdiction over all star systems within said sector. The Myto sector, being in the outer rim, has 200 inhabited systems. Sure, it has far more uninhabited systems, but those are either unreachable by hyperlane or simply not worth colonizing.

Description

"Sure, it's a light freighter, if you count body bags for bounties as freight"

"By the motive force! This is surely a miracle from the omnissiah, a sign of his favor of the Mard, the Moff, and the Myto Sector. Oh, uh, anyways, I think we should buy a lot of these. These could help meet demand. And cut that first part out of the record." - Guild sourcing specialist suspected to be a former member of a mod gan
g

The discovery of the legal status of the SS-54 assault ship as that of a Light Freighter was met with extreme enthusiasm by many guild members, especially newer ones who are not yet licensed to purchase ships which are legally gunships.

Design

"It's definitely a gunship. I know it, you know it, Bill knows it, Mola knows it. Let's call it a light freighter anyways. After all, who are we to go against imperial law?" - Lead analyst for the SS-54 "light freighter"

It's important to note that, due to the modularity of the design, it actually can work as a light freighter, albeit a well armed one. Given these trying times, better armed light freighters would likely boon to the security and prosperity of the sector

The SS-54 light freighter has been tried and tested by mercenaries and bounty hunters, who hold it in high regard due to its perceived simplicity, reliability, and versatility.

The primary weapons of an SS-54 are its two twin ZX7 laser cannons, mounted below the prow of the ship on one turret each, which can be independently aimed and fired. This may not seem like much, but a relatively high rate of fire and level of power can be sustained for a long period without issue, one of the reasons for its reputation for reliability.

Conclusion

"I love it. I love it so much, I wish we had another shipyard just to make more of these" - Guild worker sharing a common view on the SS-54

The SS-54 is not only a good and reliable ship, but its modularity, versatility, and legal status take make it a superb choice for many guild-registered mercenaries.

Recommendation

Comments about acquiring more shipyards to construct SS-54 "light freighters" quickly went from idle speculation to serious evaluation when it was discovered that Botajef Shipyards, the designer and manufacturer of the SS-54, have a currently abandoned auxiliary facility in the Mako-Ta system called the Mako-Ta Space Docks. Further investigation into the Mako-Ta Space Docks is suggested, along with the viability of acquiring them in a similar manner to how Moff Mola acquired the Rothana Heavy Engineering assets which now comprise the Mard. In addition, it is plausible that pirates have taken up residence there to make their Ambuscader Class Corvettes. Thus, the securing and acquisition of the Mako-Ta Space Docks would accomplish a number of goals.
Well, it's not such an absurd piece of overengineered bullshit like the Helix that Arakyyd managed to, somehow, make into a functional ship and convince the authorities that it was just a "light freighter/courier" while having enough firepower that even most CapShips think twice about engaging there
