Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

That didn't happen during the Galactic Civil War, that was from a Legends continuity series from after the war, X-Wing: The Krytos Trap and X-Wing: The Bacta War. Also, the "war" was pretty small scale as it was the actions of "private citizens"; the New Republic couldn't politically afford to go after Thyferra themselves.
You're right in all but your first statement.
Because if I remember right then in Legends Galactic Civil War was waged all the way to the 18 ABY.

oh good to know, so just double checking does anyone know how much elements of Legends and Disney Canon is in this fic is it gonna be a 50/50 split(I hate Disney canon and the Disney New Republic their even worse than the pre-clone wars Republic)?

that reminds me during the galactic civil war there was a bio-weapon that got released which resulted in a very high demand of bacta so much so that a war was waged over it.

if MC starts manufacturing a sizeable amount of bacta sure it makes a ton of money but it marks him as a target, but the fact that he is so far north that the Minda system is where the Pentastar Alignment is, he will mostly have to deal with the Imperial remnants rather than the rebel alliance.
Yes, bacta is apparently the panacea of Star Wars. It would be nice if he could produce it. But he could also produce other medicines and such. If he were to produce bacta, it probably wouldn't be long before the Empire stationed an ISD in the system (if I understood Wikipedia correctly, there are only 3 planets that produce it).

Id prefer the mc not getting into the bacta trade or other specialized trades, besides the pda's/tablets and the (potential) Tie Defender factories (,and a part that is completely wish fulfillment for me, battle droids/lucrehulks).
Bacta would be way to much heat from to many different sources to be worth it (the rebels, pirates, hutts, empire and others would be all over the system).

I would honestly like seeing the mc try to create a local food surplus so that they can have a free basic foods (bread, rice, corn, beans, potatoes, etc) to make basic meals. And anything else they either have to buy or make themselves.

Construction timeframes can be handwaved very easily. Remember that this is a setting where the Death Star was constructed in less than 20 years. Instead of 1000 years. Clearly they have bullshitium technology to allow that.

Honestly his largest problem politics wise could be that he has set up trade unions for his planetary industries that are not actively run by an imperial, after all most existing unions and megacorps in the empire have at a minimum an assigned imperial officer within their board of directors with both a veto and a first-among-equals status to "control" them and "keep them loyal" to the empire.

The guild is basically a government organ, considering that he effectively controls how big or small they get (he put their limit as the edge of his system and expanded their duties too, probably runs some transport convoys directly as well) there is no need to appoint an imperial overseer when he (an imperial) already runs it.

Ahh, I guess it's must have misread or misremembered that part, for some reason I thought he just set up trade union to work with everyone in the mining industry and left them to get it running.

Ok then, that point is to be ignored. If that is the case, the next thing general imperials would hate on is probably the relative lack of heavy imperial propaganda for things like coreist(centrist?) human-supremicist ideology and palpatine/empire worship in general. Which is what i guess they expect from a planet with a human majority 🤔, either that or anger at the acceptance of clones and the use of old supplies like the cis droids and the repuic fighters, depends on what kind of imperial they are.

As a sidenote if their first call is picked up by our Las's lovely twilek assistant, then it may be the feeling of being personally insulted if they are the really human supremacist type like most of the ISB and compnor types are. Or just anger at the lack of internal espionage and constant surveillance of everyone if they are just the classic ISB fanatic.

Not even bacta but like what we do on Earth, just with super-technology of Star Wars would accelerate the process of research and elaboration exponentially ! And it make it more resilient to attacks and cheaper for specific cases.

Yes. That would have its market and would probably be safer than bacta. If he also buys a droid and weapons manufacturer and has them produced there, then he'll be well covered financially.

I read the title and my mind immediately went to Caesar IV.

Better fulfill CaesarEmperor's needs of you or you might find yourself in the Coliseum as the entertainment for the masses of RomeCoruscant

I mean most likely they will ignore and dismiss it as a frontier world using whatever it can get its hands on to do what it needs to so that it might prosper. It's not like it has easy access to shipping so that it might order more politically acceptable ships or other equipment. As for propaganda, that is more likely a COMPNOR thing and the entire Minda system is too far away from major hyper lanes and way to underpopulated to warrant an office being set up.

Yea, not that concerned about there not being a harem.

Though for romance, I can see that being particularly interesting as high level Imperial politics is very games of thrones style and I can see potential relationships being similar with th mc mother trying to arrange a relationship for her son with someone either tied to a high ranking Imperial offical or business leader, heck I can see Natasi Daala being a candidate....if you ignore her potential affair with Tarkin

Under both the republic, empire and new republic actual government was a bit of a joke, because none of them were really interested in resources extracting planets expanding.

The fact he seems to have his own industry as well as resource extracting is quite rare. Pretty sure he's fallen through the cracks.

An expansion to the Guild, turning into the Imperial Guild of Industry, Commerce and Protection, which now allows mercenaries to sign up, post their services so that miners, cargo haulers and the like can more easily hire them. It also comes with a rating system and review board, so mercenaries have an easier time cultivating a reputation and people can find reliable protection. It even comes with a selection of courses that can be attended for a small fee, offering insight into how mercenary work within the guild and the Mindan system functions.
An "academy". Not a real Imperial Academy that trains StormTroopers and the like, but a militia academy that allowed people to volunteer to join the MPDF or MSDF(Mindan System Defense Fleet). It offered training, classes, with both retired clone officers and the occasional active duty officer teaching classes, giving seminars, and more. It was a way to increase the amount of active duty Navy/Army personnel, without actually having to requisition more personnel from the Navy proper.
Minda is going to have a much larger pool of military manpower than what the local Moff thinks. I imagine most Moffs only look at the number of people funneled from the Imperial Academy pipeline of Stormtroopers and Navy personnel as that is what affects their bottom line. Dismissing any other "irregular forces" as insignificant compared to the Empire's Might.

This may also lead to Minda becoming a bit of a honey trap for pirates and more reckless dissident groups. Imagine reading a spliced report from a Moff about how Minda has a "small Imperial Garrison" with lots of taxes coming from it. Only to show up and all the mercenaries and Planetary Defense Forces jump you.
  • Cities were being expanded with new apartment complexes and the like, specifically to handle the more steady influx of colonists that were being ported in.
  • The Acclamator, which had finally been named to the Beacon of Minda, finished it's retrofits and was now a pure passenger ship, with the sole purpose of picking up new colonists from various planets who wanted a new life. It could carry up to 30,000 passengers, but I had ordered the number restricted to only 5,000 per trip, the rest of the space used for cargo. While I need more people, if the population grows faster than I can manage I'll end up with substantial problems.
  • Contracts with the major farming companies and unions across Ugea were signed, for the express purpose of helping develop more land for farming. Much of it was going to be farmed by some of the incoming colonists, who I was paying the companies/unions to train in farming. This would increase food supply, allowing population growth to increase.
Between the new cities, the subsidized homesteads, and the increase in immigration accessibility, Minda is on track for a population boom. That's not even taking into account all the independent ships that are going to be ferrying immigrants once word of all the support for new arrivals gets out.

I can imagine people fleeing their planet from poor government rule, but not wanting to join the Rebellion looking at Minda as a very attractive option. Not only is there not much human supremacy, but the Governor is twisting the arm of the locals companies to actually give you some favorable loans and training when you get there.

They are gonna fucking riot if the New Republic try to use the stupid mind wiping device on him they seem to use on imperials who were in leadership positions.
They what!? Disney New Republic is impressive. /s
When I thought they couldn't be worse ... they get new ways of surprising me...

The empire doesn't like democracy, but it does like its governors having absolute power, which Las still has... he is simply using a representative format for local political organisation to select people to act as his weekly informants for the areas they represent as well as for delegating purely local paperwork/local-political-interactions to them so he doesn't have to handle as much work on a rapidly growing colony.
The Empire's local doctrine was mostly that local governors had 99% of the authority to do whatever the hell they wanted. And this is just the heyday of the Tarkin Doctrine, which gave them "carte blanche" to do whatever they wanted.

Unless he is openly disloyal, or stops paying taxes they wont give a damn. At all...

Yeah Star Wars does appear to be too reliant on bacta to heal any major injury.

At some point the governor could construct a medical hospital/institute for advancing other medical practices to aid the people of Minda (and himself).

Bacta can't replace missing organs or lost limbs so two big things that the medical institute could research could be cloned organs and cybernetics.
Another thing to research could be medical nanomachines for fighting diseases caused as in the event of a disease outbreak there wouldn't be enough Bacta for everyone infected.

1: cybernetics

For Cybernetics research there is the arkanian scientist Dr cratala a separatist doctor and genius in cybernetics was stranded on Cholganna after the clone wars.
The governor could somehow learn of her location and try and have her join such a medical institute after rescuing her to advance cybernetic research intended to help people.

2: Cloned organ replacement

For cloned organ replacement there is Dr Pershing from the mandalorian, who was an imperial cloning engineer.

The governor could try and bring him to Minda after the empire begins to collapse as his dream was cloning replacement organs for anyone that suffered from organ failures like his mother and would fit in with such a medical facility.
The-Mandalorian-Dr-Pershing.jpg

3: Medical nanomachines

another thing could be taking the Nanotechnology in Star Wars and researching ways to creating medical nanites for combating diseases caused by viruses or bacteria by eliminating them from the body and helping repair the damage caused to the body from the disease.

Depending on continuity midichlorians are kinda bio nanomachines so this might bring the wrong kind of attention

He could also try to revive Kolto. Not as good as Bacta, but will raise fewer eyebrows.
This is a nice alternative without trying a massive divergence from the established lore and technology.. i also remember a fanfiction at least mentioning bacta being so prominent down go the thin strips of band-aid like bacta bits being used because it was so universal. I.e. medical technology has issues catering to the wildly diverse sentient lifeforms and bacta being a Universal plug in made it worthwhile doubly so when you invest way more for non bacta or kolto for a fraction off thee results. Which kinda acts as a technology trap of sorts. I consider this fanon theory until someone points out legends content to support it, but the logic has some sense. Which also coincidentally aids human healthcare as the largest customer base due to being the largest population.

Also does the MC get a stipend for bodyguards and does he get a good salary? He may be able to skip imperial redtape on self equipment if he buys some gear on his personal wallet or bodyguard fund. To work around equipment logistics refusals. Like he may not be able go order the super duper tie interceptors and defenders for a back water but he has enough autonomy no one should cry foul if he pays for some starvipers (or insert other over the counter x wing/tie interceptor competition that isn't considered obsolete this is just what i remember from empire at war etc .)that are open for purchase and can match up to x wings and tie interceptors that he may not be able to buy? Availability is an issue, can he order/ ask for it? And if not can he pay for something Similar enough to get by without begging a grand Moff.

Kind of want once actual Palpatine Imperial authority collapses and everyone's on their own the SI gets into a relationship and eventually marries Darna.

She seems to want home and a stability while he wants someone who could be trusted.

I forgot, does twilek/human relationships produce children in legends? It's going to be a big potential deal breaker in a settle down relationship if not. They're viable in disney but they had the few kids look a little strange from the mixed traits like they couldn't make up their minds how to portray the kids. Which considering how many people like twileks these kids should be half the galaxy by now 😂, makes more sense to me if the precursor empires/super tech powers(unknown for sure which but likely Rakatans which enslaved humans, less likely celestials, lesser likely the stargate makers whose name i forget) engineered the humans and near humans to be able to crossbreed while children inherit the essential race traits from the same sex parent. I.e. a daughter looks like a member of the mother's race, a son looks like the father's species. This would go a long way to explaining twilek women everywhere but almost never seeing the men. Also elder scrolls universe most know from skyrim dumbs it down to just the children being the mother's species primarily with facial traits and mental characteristics passing through. So this fits without breaking anything and isn't too far fetched from story settings or force shenanigans that love to spread life since it needs life to spread etc ....

@Freefaller

This has probably been asked and answered already but how come the MC has been given such a free hand? Surely there's a Moff or something over him who would have noted all changes he's been making, and they would have especially noticed that he's rebuffed a pirate raid that should have crushed him.

Will greater attention be paid to Minda now?

Someone in Disney really hates New Republic, and simps for mandos.

And even there they aren't that good.
Now I know what really happened! They gave Karen Traviss complete freedom to write whatever she wanted! :p

So she wiped the Jedis again ( poor Luke ), simped badly for the Mandalorians ( but as its her, it sucked anyway! ).

And all the "good" guys are idiots or hypocrites.

Uh, new headcanon adopted! ;)

Minda City List

Ugea
  • Shubeon
    • Accordia - Capital
    • Rolling Green's - Nexus City - Farming
    • Augir - Nexus City - Mining
    • Roxatory - Nexus City - Production
  • Alhea
    • Vrectin - Nexus City - Production
  • Mukrix
    • No Nexus Cities

Just a little organizational tool to have a place to put all the cities names and such. I don't want to keep jumping around my 60 page google doc just to find a name.

Also, any future city name suggestions are always welcome. FantasyNameGenerators is great but it can only do so much.

Thanks for reading!

There's like 5 million settled worlds(or systems ? My brain is confusing itself) that were a part of the Republic by the time of the clone wars. As much as the empire loves to centralize and control everything with a microscope. The scale of the empire is just too big, which is partially why moffs(which in turn served under a grand moff in pseudo feudal fiefdoms like emperor having his grand moff kings/dukes and them having moffs as military counts/barons and MC is the governor baron/village chief) and governors get blanket authority and the big wigs just do occasions of audits and trying to notice big issues they need to address, which they get real dramatic about to show off their power when they do show up in force. His place is so tiny on the grand scale its a glorified village in the grand scheme off things. Albeit a rapidly growing one.
