Okay, looking at stats, our best bet is probably one high, one decent and one low. We can't excel at everything, so better to be good at something than nothing at all. Our family background suggests we're lonely. That seems to hint at relatively low social contact, meaning charm would probably be our low stat. On the other hand, we have very intelligent parents, both of whom are successful. If we take after them at all, that would suggest either insight or tenacity.

Now, we need 14 points, 6 of which are already assigned, leaving us with 8. If we max one stat, that costs 5 points, leaving us with three to spend however. We could also go 6, 4, 4.

Charm lets us make relationships which will be important to staying human or humanish and will help a lot of magical abilities. Tenacity lets us endure shocking Madokaesque revelations, and insight is needed to figure out what the hell is going on in the first place.

Given our background insight 7 seems pretty appropriate. That leaves 3 points to set aside elsewhere.

Insight 7, tenacity 4, charm 3 says we're a genius that has some decent mental fortitude but is a little bit socially oblivious. Given the write-in I'm suggesting for the friend, this seems like an optimal set-up to maximize amusing shenanigans.... Also probably, given the rule system, this will end in tragedy.

So, votes:

Reminiscence/hope seems like an appropriate first name even if it's a rarer kanji for the name Natsuki.

It should be noted that I'll allow you to spend Relationship point later, and thus you can[/b] be reasonably popular and have a good relationship with your parents, if you wish. Even if you don't take this option, I strongly suggest having Charm-build character as part of your group.

But of course, that's for later.

So basically, low Charm doesn't necessarily color all your relationships, it just forces you to focus your attention on a smaller set of people?

Relationship rank as modifier for your interaction to said person, so you can act like mundane, non-socially stunted for them. And it goes both way!

Anyway. Point is, you don't have to play as socially-stunted awkward teenager if you want. If you do, though, go ahead!

Having a Charm-build ally allows us to mitigate that limitation though, a friend of a friend sort of thing.

Do you want us to revote or are prior votes still counted? Just in case

Anyway, looking at the actual differences between the two statwise, and assuming the 4.0 rules...

A 12-14 roll is a success for most tasks, a 15 is a big success. Dice will usually be 2d6.

So with 2 charm, we need a 10 or higher to increase the value of a relationship, with 3 we need a 9.

16.66% chance of success vs 27.77%

27.77-16.66=11.11

27.77/16.66=1.666

IE: Improving charm from 2 to 3 means we end up about 66% more likely to pass any given charm roll, the key stat to improve relationships in play.

What does dropping our second stat from 5 to 4 cost us?

With a 5, we need a 7 or higher on the dice, with a 4, an 8.

7+ will happen 58.33% of the time, while 8+ happens only 41.66%

58.33/41.66=1.400

IE: A 40% decrease for a 66% increase in probability of success. (IE: With a 33 we succeed 1.666* as succesful as with a 2. (Incidentally going by this math, 4, 4, 6 is a generally better build for being more viable, but, well, high numbers are cool!)

The bigger difference is that you get big bonuses on a 15+.... Which is impossible categorically with a 2. IE: We can't crit succeed at all if we dump a stat all the way to 2. (Assuming 4.0 rules and that I'm reading right.)

(There is also the fact that we'll probably be on a team rather than just an individual, which will let us divide the tasks between people.)

Regardless of mechanical benefit I'm of the opinion that Charm is the most fun of the three to suck at, and Tenacity is most painful to lack. The reason being that a Tenacity check is usually obvious and important in a pinch (mind control resistance, roll to keep standing, defeat inner demons manifested, ect.) Whereas the benefits of really high intelligence aren't so obvious and visceral because most people aren't geniuses, so it doesn't sting as much when you can't get high intelligence goodies.

Besides the obvious benefits, being good at delying gratification is an underappreciated skill that's very versatile in everyday life.

[X] Build rcnr

We still suck at charm with both, it's just a question of occasionally passing a charm check and sometimes doing surprisingly well, versus almost never doing so.

And neither build would have us sucking at tenacity, just being okayish at it versus great.

Also worth noting is that these aren't our magical (combat) traits. We'll have an entirely different stat for magical defense power to resist stuff in combat.

(Also the failure mode of insight is boring. With charm we get to be adorably awkward or dramatically isolated. With tenacity we get to struggle against problems, find ourself lacking, encounter inner demons and maybe let them win a bit or go dark/evil for a bit. With insight we... fail to notice the story. We don't find the monster we're looking for.

It's not a game design function I particularly care for, and good GMing can ameliorate it, but while failing tenacity and charm tests create stories, failing insight checks avoids them more or less.

Besides, Mercury is totally cooler than Jupiter.)

Revote, please. Prior vote won't be counted. Vote will be locked... hmm, two hours from now.

EDIT:
....
Margin is still way too close. I think I'll leave this open for six hours.

Tied. Also, vote locked.

Come to think about it, you can't remember the last time you talked with Sakuya. Oh, you do interact, but she seems kinda distant and jittery around you. You wonder what's the deal with her. Oh well. Maybe you can ask her about that?

Your thumb hovered briefly on the 'Send' icon, before you touch it. Here goes nothing.

[+Karma!]

You re-check everything again, before grabbing your bag and goes out of the door.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The walk to the Mercy Street itself is rather uneventful. You met some of your classmates, of course, and after initial greeting, the first thing they mention is why you take this route instead of your usual one. You answer...

[ ] No reason, really. You just want to go this route. Change of scenery and all. (No Relationship point spent)
[ ] Well, the App asks you to go this way, so why not? (1 Relationship point spent)
[ ] Though, you do want to meet with Sakuya. Really, you wonder what happens with her. (2 Relationship point spent)

Your conversation halted, however, when you spot Sakuya waiting at you at the Mercy Street. And then she...

[ ] Approaches you, greeting your classmates on the way before nudging you to the school. (Sakuya: Primary stat Charm)
[ ] Approaches you, before taking your arm then drag you to the school. (Sakuya: Primary stat Tenacity)

On your way to the school...

[ ] Your walk is silent, and both of you tried to broach the subject but she always stuttered, before blushing furiously, and you aren't exactly sure what to do. (2 Relationship point spent)
[ ] Your walk is lively, but both of you tried really, really, hard to avoid the subject... (3 Relationship points spent)
[ ] You know what she wants to talk about, she knows what you want to talk about, so you grab her hand and- this is too early for waifu-ing, dammit.

We get 12, 4 is really really big. I'd suggest keeping it to 3 now

[X] Approaches you, before taking your arm then drag you to the school. (Sakuya: Primary stat Tenacity)

High charm allows for less awkwardness in the long run with this relationship. Better to go high tenacity and grab someone else for higher charm stuff.
