Video Games General

Checking out Dissidia 012 for lack of anything better to do. So far, three comments:

- Who the fuck translated the difficulty options? They are Normal, Strong, and Moderate, placed in the menu in that order. Had to google it, but Normal is Normal, Moderate is Easy, and Strong is Hard. Why? Just.. why?

- I start the game, tell the game I played the first Dissidia before, so I get dropped directly on a tutorial of one of the new features. After the tutorial the dialogue with the Moggle goes something like this:
"Kump? You didn't need me to tell you that? ...Have you already mastered Dissidia, kupo?"
- "I wouldn't say that..." <-- I assumed this would mean more tutorial hell
- ["I am a master!"] --> Got dropped immediately into a battle with the max-leveled final boss that oneshots me.
"Overconfidence is dangerous, kupo!"

- Why does this and the previous game lack a practice mode to try out shit?

Funny enough, there are people who beat that battle I believe.

Technically possible... If you do not miss a single dodge and have several hours to dedicate to it, because that 6 digit HP boss isn't going to fall anytime soon while doing at best a few hundred damage per finisher you manage to land.
There's probably a speedrunner out there who glitched it down to 5 minutes.

Yeah, I saw it on youtube. The moogle doesn't change the dialogue however. Enix thought no one would be able to do it.

Just wanted to share this.

The next Horizon game is called Forbidden West. There are references to the Forbidden West in the first Horizon game

I don't see a recommended games thread, so I'll put in a couple recs here.

If you're at all a fan of the OG C&C and Red Alert, pick up the remastered version on Steam. It's faithful to the playstyle of the original, the only change that's not cosmetic is the sidebar, which is more in line with C&C3. Instead of a building column and training column, you have a building tab, infantry tab, and vehicle tab. Other than that they've added 4k support and online play has support for the modern internet. Graphically the unit sprites look like they might have if this level of tech was available to Westwood back in '95, and you can switch to retro mode by hitting the spacebar. While the FMV clips will never look as good as if they were shot in 4k, they've been improved a lot in comparison to the original.

Oh, and one of the best new features is a mission select on the main menu, allowing you to play or replay any mission you have had access to. If you beat a mission and got two choices for the next mission, you can pick either and the mission select screen will log both as available. So you won't need to make a save to keep your progress.

My second rec is Project Warlock. It would fit in alongside early shooters like Doom and Duke in graphics, but it adds permanent weapon customization, castable spells, character upgrades, and character traits. Gun upgrades are game changing, the double barrel shotgun becomes either a quad barrel shotgun or fires one barrel at a time but lights enemies on fire.

The main challenge in PW is that it's very fast paced. You're fast, enemies are fast, attacks are fast. It's not hard to clear an early level in 5-10 minutes, with searching for the secrets. It's also PW's strength, you can start a mission and be done quickly and go on with your day, or continue on for more.

The biggest flaw is the first boss. He's beatable, but he's fast, tough, and has a lot of minions. Later bosses are harder but you're higher level, so they're easier to kill. If you feel stuck on him just keep at it with different strats, you'll kill him eventually.

----

Third is Mark of the Ninja. It's a 2d stealth game, with a highly agile but frail ninja. You are capable of combat, but if you're fighting alerted enemies you're doing it wrong. You periodically find new gear, items, and weapons that have different effects on the traps and guards. Stealth is advised, but usually not strictly required. Different outfits will change how you can interact with guards and traps, some prevent traps and sword use, some prevent distraction item use. Most levels have one or two bonus puzzle challenge rooms.

by the by, since persona 4 is on pc now, people are modding it a bit. Already got persona 3 character models put in, and depending on how much people care to try, putting new personas in could be done too. People are already modding themselves harder difficulties.

This is QQ. Will there be mods for porn scenes? Will the harem-route be included? Will the judgemental Buddha-statue be removed?

Larian is making baldur gate 3 and it looks amazing and it's in EA in August and I can't wait.

The new DLC fighter for Smash is getting revealed soon. Personally I hope the ARMs character they pick ends up being Min-min, but I can't say I care too much (seeing as I've played neither of those games). As long as it isn't Spring-man.

Still hoping to see Dante for Smash, but I'm not too hopeful.

Desperately tries to ignore Captain Falcon's horrible eating. Smash character revealz time. Never played ARMS so, kinda gets a shrug from me. Looks like she'd be hard as fuck to get close to one on one tho.

So there's two arms fighters now?

I wonder if the next one is also going to be arms.

My reaction is about the same as far as the actual character goes. What I'm more excited about is that Spirits are no longer deconfirmed as potential fighters, since Min Min was already in the game previously as a spirit. That means Shantae and Rex/Pyra/Mythra are potentially back in the running.

In non-Smash related news, I found a curious little game on Steam called Hero Must Die Again. It's a JRPG whose premise is that the hero slew the demon lord but now has only five days to live and has to set his affairs in order and clean up as many left over problems as he can before his time is up. It bills itself as an anti-RPG because your level is constantly going down instead of up. It sounds really unique and interesting and I figured I'd bring it to peoples' attention since the Steam Summer Sale is only a few days away.

That'd be cool but, I don't know what her moveset would even be. If she had to dance to use her transformations that'd leave some pretty big openings.

I guess if she doesn't have to dance then up-b for harpy flight, side for monkey dash, down for elephant smash, and neutral for fireball magic or something might work?

Her latest outing in Seven Sirens has her not needing to dance for her most basic transformations anymore, she just does them automatically as part of her moveset, like her airdash and such.

She is growing stronger then.

-edit-

It's all in the hips.
No, it's in the magic coin thingies she uses for the specific transformations in Seven Sirens. :V

I suppose they could mix and match abilities from the different games. Pretty sure they'd go with monkey over newt since they do the same thing and monkey's been around longer. Maybe they could throw in cannon jumping instead of using harpy transformation?

speaking of steam you can Injustice 1 Ultimate Edition for free on all available platforms.

I'm playing through Persona 4 Golden atm and I was wondering if anyone knows if I could start up a thread for it. As a sorta After-Action Report/me talking about my experiences kind of deal, though I might branch out and do various games once I'm done with P4G.

Just post in the persona thread in the index

I'm hoping the PC release might mean we will get a console port at some point.

Same, though I'm bias for PC. I also really like that they seem to be moving Light and Dark Spells away from Instant-Kill Effect to Damage. It actually makes me want to get them to use/keep them, instead of getting rid of them for useful spells/abilities.

So I just finished Far Cry 3 and whether the hate for him is justifiable or not, I haven't seen a lot of people give Jason credit for the fact that after everything he went through he was able to walk away from the Rook Islands unlike a lot of people before him (including Vaas).

I know the decision is actually decided by the player. but it is still impressive in universe.
