With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Darko, it isn't a calming effect that shuts the rings down, it's that the Blue Light of hope hard counters Red.

That's why it can even shut down machines that run on the Red Light

Yet a Red Lantern with sufficient rage can overcome a blue ring, like Razer did, even though he was on a planet with the Blue Central Power Battery at the time he did that.

Of course you forgot that detail and even if I show you the relevant clip, you'llignore it.

Given the number of times they have called Bullshit on Earth, this just straight up isn't true

That means they also know that the place has thwarted the plans of Darskied and is now a big fat target for him, in addition to all the other Earth bullshit they would have to deal with
They also know that Earth isn't invincible, and they previously didn't have anything against Earth and its people, but now they do have something against them since Paul killed several of them and is now seemingly helping their enemies, so even if they think Earth is bullshit, they're still going to do these things.

Which occurred after the radiative effect of the Blue Central Power Battery was suppressed by being eaten by a giant worm.

Everyone saying Qward for the source of these two rings, and while I bet Qward would make anything in order to trade for some Nth metal, I think there's a more obvious supplier. The Seven Devils Cult.

I think the (now former) High Mor had a contact and he got on the phone like Zorg in the Fifth Element talking to an dark entity who was able to grant him a red ring (probably the most mystically connected rings) and maybe empower a green ring that Thanagar had captured / depleted long ago.

I don't think the Seven Devils cults would be able to make a red power ring. Maybe one of the Seven Devils themselves, but even so, that doesn't seem in their usual wheelhouse.

Now, a cult having contacts with Qward, that might be reasonable.

Emotional disruption might work, except that the red ring is clearly clouding out everything else. It would need to be exceptionally strong, and Katar isn't here. I can't bring him here because I don't have a way to bring him into the Honden without causing irreparable spiritual damage. I can't fly back to Earth and pick him up because even without the interdiction field if I'm not here Shayera and the sniper would probably kill Guarn and then attack the fleet. A fleet which isn't set up to fight Lanterns.

I viff viciously as Shayera actually works out how to throw fireballs. I look around in concern, but the ships have moved far enough apart that they don't hit them when I dodge.

A long way to my left I see small explosions as… Something destroys one of the frigates hunting for the sniper. Probably the sniper. A railgun powerful enough to shatter one of my constructs would make a mess of a small ship.

Other emotions… Hope and compassion aren't really her things. She's too practical for hope, used to not having things go her way when left to their own devices. And while she's not… Cruel, really, she protects people more out of a sense of societal obligation and for self-actualisation rather than actual affection for those she's protecting. And after she challenged me to a fight I'm perfectly happy to accept that there isn't much that she's fearful of. Even Katar dying; it would hurt, but she's been hurt by people dying before. Will is out without some higher good that she holds to appeal to, and the only one of those she's got is the good of the Thanagarian Empire.

Avarice?

I am supposed to be the expert. And I've looked at her deep enough to know everything that she desires. Reminded me a lot of Jade, actually.

Right. I fire energy pulses, not really trying to push through her flame aura but just to keep her… Focused. I'm not sure that that's how it works, but I don't have a massive amount of experience fighting rabid Red Lanterns. The one version of me I met with a red ring seemed pretty rational, and Orion… Managed to remain coherent-.

"Orange Lantern to Lantern Thal, can we talk about this?"

There's a momentary pause, then her face appears over my ring.

"Ngyaah!"

Warning! Ring structure experiencing-

Cuttheconnectioncuttheconnection!

-damage. Connection severed.

Right, fine.

Three more fireballs from her-. I deploy a steel plate from subspace and drop it in front of the first. It burns through and keeps coming, but it's slower and looks a little dimmer. And it's off course now, anyway. Second-. I form railgun constructs, load crumbler rounds and open fire. The first… Ugh, seven are incinerated without effect and I'm forced to evade, two and three flying off into space.

Avarice infusion next.

I see the structures I remember, and the flames eating at them, keeping them away from her consciousness and threatening to consume them entirely. I apply a little of Our power, fanning her need to act within the bounds of accepted processes for her own protection and her desire to avoid the mind altering drugs that are all too common in downside. Her use of a red ring-.

The flames are heading for-.

Cutthe-!

"Ah-haaah!"

That-! Bitch! I'll-!

"Guh-!"

Consume!

Shayera-!

I parry her mace-swing with an x-ionised sword, and I'm pleased to see that the nonsense that renders it super sharp and super resilient mostly holds out against her flame aura and the discharge of the Nth metal mace even if it does get knocked out of my hand, a molten mess.

She flies past me-. She wasn't expecting me to stop like that, and-. Aagh, regenerate, pick a new direction and fly! Booster constructs, because she's turning pretty darn fast.

"Guarn, update."

"The delegates are on the ship and leaving the system. I will find the other attacker."

"Remember, armour and constant movement."

"Yes, Illustres."

Alright, Shayera's on my tail again. Next option… Direct crumbler attack. I know enough about thanagarian physiology that as long as I don't hit Shayera's brain I should be able to fix her up. And getting a hit on her right hand would make this a lot easier.

Reform the railguns and fire. Ring, monitor.

Compliance.

She doesn't bother dodging, madly staring eyes utterly fixated on me as she continues to fly after me.

Negative impact, negative impact, negative impact…

They're burning up before they hit, so the crumbler effect isn't even triggering. Okay, twitch from impact trigger to remote trigger, load and fire.

Compliance.

Okay, that's-. Having a negligible impact, but it is having some. Load x-ionised round and wait until there's a faint dimming-.

There.

Fire.

She could block it, but she's 'learned' that she doesn't need to.

The first shot-. She twitchedfuck! It passes through her flame aura and cuts into her abdomen, slicing through skin, intestines and flying out of her back.

Her blood is liquid fire, and sprays freely from both sides of the wound. She

appears in front of me, swinging her ma-!

Guh!

Crumber gauntlets! Sword!

My armour's melting and the right side of my chest is paste, but the gauntlet is disrupting the aura-.

There! Cut!

My x-ionised sword cuts through her wrist, her aura vanishing at once.

"Shayera Thal." The ring flies back from her severed hand as she chokes on vacuum. "Rage."

Oh no you fucking don't!

I smash the ring with my right crumbler gauntlet while projecting my desire for the horrid thing to stop existing! The fist hits, and the ring's gone.

Take a breath.

Scan Shayera. Thanagarians don't do much better with vacuum exposure than humans do, but if she's got some sort of hold out weapon-. No, she's out of it. Environmental shield, grab her… Severed hand, and head for the carrier.

I'll go after the sniper once she's safe and secure.

I really don't understand the overall plan here. Piss Paul off enough to erase the rest of the leadership? Ensure everyone in the vicinity joins this coalition?
Unless this isn't the only attack, and they have multiple rings...

I hope that at some point OL calls Dox to check that Orion's ring is still safe.
