With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

She twist, clearly used to using her wings to fly, but her rage is propelling her towards me with little-
'twist' to 'twists'
but not that I don't have people to protect-.
'not' to 'now'
One of the larger Margavian ships moves closer, signalling 'receive evacuees' while the other cover it.
Should be either "while the others cover it" or "while the other covers it"
A red blur slams into Guan,
'Guan' to 'Guarn'
'Guarm' to 'Guarn'

now

This is some serious bullshit, how'd she know so quickly and get her hands on the Red Ring?
Remove the ring and replace her heart before it kills her?
This isn't a magic Red Ring made by Atrocitus or whatever his name is, it's a Guardian made Red Ring. Has less drawbacks and is more stable, but probably has less easily accessible heights.

A red blur slams into Guan, sending him flying through space until he slams into the hull of a Polaran ship, his construct armour falling apart around him! The Red Lantern-. Thanagarian-.

"A Red Lantern?"
Good to confirm Thanagar may be due an intervention by the GLC and OLC after this if they're going to do things like this.

She twist, clearly used to using her wings to fly, but her rage is propelling her towards me with little-

Shayera. Damn it.

"Guarm, catch!"

-enough, and my right leg and the docking construct are melted-

Urgggggghhh!
The classic version of Red Lantern. I can't wait to see Katar's reaction to his wife becoming like this.

"Don't draw her attention!" I fire energy pulses her to make sure that her attention is on me, accelerating away from her as she redoubles her efforts to chase me down. "I've got her! Focus on protecting the delegates and finding the sniper!"

Acknowledgment pings come in as Shayera bats the pulses away-. She's gaining on me. I think she's learning how to use it better despite her mental state.

So how do I take her down without killing her?

Nothing comes to mind.
I really want to see how Paul will try to neutralize Shayera and see if that sniper is Katar.

now

This is some serious bullshit, how'd she know so quickly and get her hands on the Red Ring?
Presumably enemy action. I don't think the Red Corps exists here (he had to get Orion to fix Earth), but that was like a year ago in-universe so somebody might have gotten their hands on a few Red rings. Shayera is a pretty good choice if you want to fuck over Paul, given she has anger issues, really doesn't like him, and he is unwilling to just kill her.

This isn't a magic Red Ring made by Atrocitus or whatever his name is, it's a Guardian made Red Ring. Has less drawbacks and is more stable, but probably has less easily accessible heights.
It's probably a Qwardian made Red Power Ring.

I'm wondering if the sniper is the High Mor, and Shayera is the volunteer he was talking about. That would be one hell of a betrayal though.
Chances are very good. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a consious betrayal, honestly.
"Do you want to get back at Orange Lantern?"
"Yes."
"Good, come with me and put this on-"

Now, if the High Mor is the sniper and has a Qwardian-made green ring, the Guardians are going to have some very pointed questions for our antimatter-universe friends. People making power rings in other colors is worrisome, but there is an entire Emotional Energy Spectrum, and that horse has long since bolted. But green? That's their province.

Thanagarian-.

I-

Armour.

-transition forwards, scanning and tethering as many people as I can as the atmosphere spills out of the wrecked hull!
This is going to be a race against time to rescue as many people as possible before they boil in their own fluids without any heat management. And most of them are probably going to be suffering vacuum exposure as well, because who would be in a spacesuit in a friendly base?

Analysis.

Damage consistent with high-powered projectile.
Admittedly, that 'projectile' could easily be someone moving at near-FTL speeds.

Lantern Guarn is-. Looking around-.

"Guarn, armour and movement! Now!"

A hardened exoskeleton appears around him as he moves closer to me. "I detected another Green Lantern. If-."
Good, he needs to work on that response to unexpected encounters if he plans to reach veteran service.

"I detected someone channelling willpower." Smaller vessels around us are accelerating away, most likely in an attempt to locate whatever just fired. One of the larger Margavian ships moves closer, signalling 'receive evacuees' while the other cover it. I form a docking construct attached to their airlock and start moving the tethered delegates to it. "Don't make ass-."
The bigger worry is the Rage outburst.

A red blur slams into Guan, sending him flying through space until he slams into the hull of a Polaran ship, his construct armour falling apart around him! The Red Lantern-. Thanagarian-.

Not Bleez.
I suspect if someone had given her a Red Ring, OL would flay them alive, without pain-dampening, for it.

They lunge again, Nth metal mace smashing into the hull as Guarn drops down, his armour reappearing.

"A Red Lantern?"

"
Powerful berserkers. Avoid direct-"
Good luck evading given Lantern speeds and Thanagarian aggressiveness.

Something smashes into my docking construct and punches through, punching through two delegates and out of the other side! Ah, shit, restore construct, layer the edge, dump kinetic barriers out of subspace to shield the surrounding area, force the airlock to open both doors because we're in a hurry and… Ah, okay, I…
Could be the Will-powered threat, could be more Red Lanterns... Could be something else.

Patch that one up, and… The other is brain dead, but if I plug the holes and apply a neural-

"Hrrraaagh!"
If this was a plan to bust up the conference, it's sadly working.

-stimu-.

Claw construct!

I try battering the Red Lantern away as-. She dives at the docking construct, but her Nth metal mace smacks the first construct claw to nothing and the second… Her aura burns through it. Two rapidly-fired railgun rounds meet the same fate-.
That's terrifying. Fast enough to bat railgun shots in flight away with a mace...

Ah-. Disconnect, block the door I jammed open and warp-.

Unable to-
Damn, someone's got interdiction up? I would assume it's whoever was sniping.

Fly up and twist and hope she isn't used to flying in space-!

-comply, jamming in progress.
Could work, given that while Thanagarians have good 3-d spacial awareness, it applies to normal-gravity environments.

She twist, clearly used to using her wings to fly, but her rage is propelling her towards me with little-

Shayera. Damn it.
Well, he's definitely going to be killing someone for this. Hopefully in time to make up for her getting into this before Katar finds him.

-conscious thought. I can see the burning tears and saliva I remember from the comics-. She's not in any more. And she's going to hit-.

A energy pulse from Lantern Guarn hits her in the back, knocking her away a little-.
I suppose it makes sense to give her a Red Ring or someone to channel it and then set her on OL, given how she felt about all this.

She opens her mouth and vomits construct acid as she recovers-.

Assimilate.

Strands shoot into the magical super-acid, burning up as they convert tiny amounts of it into orange light, the desire for destruction swamps by desire more broadly. It doesn't do-
A logical move, given the napalm-vomit is intensely laden with Red Light.

"Guarm, catch!"

-enough, and my right leg and the docking construct are melted-

Urgggggghhh!
And of course it causes massive pain regardless of extent of contact or the state of his nerve endings.

-through as I transition the delegates towards Lantern Guarn. His spiracles twitch in surprise and-. Between not wearing spacesuits and being more fragile than humans, I don't think they're all going to survive, but he creates escape pod constructs around all of them before heading towards-.
Good plan, but he's forgetting the apparent sniper.

One of the ships further away is a carrier, and it's opening its fighter bay, good decision. He flies-.

One of his escape pods shatters, the delegate inside getting completely obliterated. The brain's… Pulp, there's nothing-
And said Sniper is damn skilled. And using something with no visible traces. FTL or exotic energy?

"Hrrraaagh!"

-I can do for them. Shayera's flying at me again, but not that I don't have people to protect-.
At least OL can quick-fabricate spacesuits for them. Ones with thrusters to haul them out of the fight.

Another pod gets obliterated, but I can see the direction the shot came from. Transmit instruction to.. that ship to move around and shield Guarn.

"Acknowledged."
Sloppy sniping, then, if they're staying in one place long enough to get spotted.

I transition down, Shayera flying past me and into the side of a ship-.

Smashing through its shields and armour and making it shudder as the hull is breached-.
Ooof. That's gonna take more than a patch, I bet.

I fire a grapple construct, focusing on it to force it to maintain integrity through her acid flame aura as I yank her back! Can I get to the ring-?

"Yeeeeeeeh!"
If it's anything like the standard, it's taking the place of her heart. So if he rips it out, she's gonna need immediate medical aid.

No, that's not happening. Her flame aura thing flares and my construct is gone. And the burning in my leg-.

It's still.. burning, and it's coming up-. Uh.
Napalm wishes it could be this aggressive.

Cut off my own leg with x-ionised blades again, regenerate and evade, dodging around ships in the hope that she'll follow me rather than try smashing through them because her training should still-. Yep, yes, that worked.

And she smashed my severed leg with her mace on the way. Heh.
That was just out of spite, wasn't it? At least it's clear he's her primary target.

Regrow leg, replace armour. I suppose that I'm seeing a red ring being used in the way that it's meant to be used right now, instead of trying to turn it into a ring for people who aren't crazy.

My kinetic barrier ripples as the sniper takes another shot, the energy significant but not enough to wreck it in the way that getting punched by a kryptonian would.
And the sight is impressive, abhorrent as it is. No wonder the comics Red Lanterns were so fearsome.

Okay, I can probably batter Sheyara down, but that risks killing her or causing her ring to kill her. I could try dragging this out until she runs out of power… I suspect that she's burning through it at an accelerated rate like that-.

A point defence turret turns to take a shot at her, and she smashes it off its mount for its temerity. A smaller ship snips and points its primary weapon array at her-.
That hard part is going to be keeping her alive and safe from the efforts of the ships around them to take her down.

Or the Ring AI is calibrating to her psyche. Or both.

So how do I take her down without killing her?

Nothing comes to mind.
Because if you don't let her get a hit or two in, she's going to decide to try and bait you into chasing her by going after friendlies.

Yeah, it definitely feels like the former High Mor is behind this somehow. Qwardian-made rings? A good chance of that. This is going to be setting many cats amongst the pigeons amongst those with an interest in Spectrum technology for sure. We can only hope these aren't the first shots fired in the War of Light. That's... Bad.

I think that was the "environmental shield" eating them.

Sloppy sniping, then, if they're staying in one place long enough to get spotted.
I mean, to be fair, if we assume the willpower wielder is the sniper, the only possible threats to them on the field are Guarn and Paul. The former is fully occupied with rescue, and the latter is even more occupied with trying not to get napalm-maced. Given that, setting up a sniper nest and picking off targets at lesiure is entirely reasonable.

or
'swamps my'?

'Shayera'

'spins'?

Extraneous 'her'

I guess the aura is why he can't trivialise this with crumbler shells. Though once the sniper is located he might be able to teleport over there and crumble them, depending on how well-trained they are.

They've made anti-green rings before. Could be more of the same.

If the rings are from Qwardians - which seems fairly likely - this does make me think there is an alliance of some sort between evil space organisations. The detail of the High Mor not finding it unusual for them to learn a Thanagarian language is strange if it was the Qwardians, with how disdainful they are of aliens. They also don't seem so patient as to wait for decades without being called. So more likely there is some intermediary between the High Mor and Qward. The Sinestro Corps is an obvious candidate, but they aren't old enough to have a decades-old contact with Thanagar, so there must be a broader alliance going on.

It's probably a Qwardian made Red Power Ring.

Anti green is also a possibility

This makes absolutely no sense unless its a Brother Eye assassination attempt or something.
It makes perfect sense.

Shayera was angry at Paul for what he did, so she'd have motivation to do this.

Paul is also hesitant to kill her, so that's another reason she'd be chosen.

The qwardians can make red rings, so Thanagar probably bought the ring from them.

Important to remember that the former High Mor made a point of making this his personal action, not that of "Thanagar". The rest of the government can honestly say all they knew is that he said he was doing "something" and then left.

I like how part of the reason this fight is giving Paul such trouble is all the bystanders he's having to watch out for and try to rescue. That's key to a lot of superhero fights; a lot of the time Superman could win his fights much more easily if he weren't trying to save people at the same time.

Can't see a non-lethal solution huh...

Is it about time for the League to be a seat short again? I think I'd like that, everything I've seen of her so far has been pointing to this.
Besides maybe willingly donning a sketchy rage artifact from her head of state that she consciously knows isn't on the up and up, she hasn't done anything deserving of death, sure.
I'd still want her kicked out, and if this is how we get that then sure.

not that of "Thanagar"

That works with neighboring powers that are willing to accept such a farce or need to accept it if they can't do anything significant about it beyond wagging their fingers.

OL might let it slide to be done with this, but I'd be happy to see him take 'em to task for believing that they could let shit hit the fan without facing any consequences.

If things end in Hawk Woman's possible death, later resurrection as well, then Paul will have another League death under his belt than most villains can claim to have. Another reason why Paul and the League will never be on good terms in general unless there's a world wide problem to deal with, individual relations being a mixed bag.

I can only image what the possible future must look like for known time travelers like Impulse and the Legion, both the canon version and AU affected by Paul's actions, different planetary alliances against other civilizations.
