The ANBU aren't always around-around. You're rather adverse to sleep (and Raccoon being around makes it worse because pumping her for information and being adorably solemn is your big shtick), so when it's time to wind down for the night the night shift takes position on the roofs surrounding the building and in the street below, with one guy inside the flat to coordinate the others or make a quick escape.

What I'm saying is, it's your word against Utako's, and one of you has never shown malice toward the other.

Why would it be our word against Utako's?

This is the village with the mind ninja. Wouldn't they be able to confirm these accusations and beliefs more directly? I should think finding nothing incriminating in Utako's mind is a point in our favor.

Although...they probably wouldn't immediately think, "The boy is lying and manipulating us." Of course I also don't think Utako would be allowed near us anymore, so I'm not sure even this failed investigation would be enough to push her over the edge or convince her to get her replacement over the edge.

I'm sorry, a point in her favor. Unless the ninja start speculating about conspiracies via Utako although frankly it begs the question of someone would go to such effort for such minimal gains.

Although the sad part is that Danzo is still a feasible answer. To us at least.

I swear, you can spin so many crazy conspiracy features that the line between reasonable and unreasonable paranoia is either arbitrary or decided after the fact. ._.

Or like... any of them? They had Mizuki for months and never figured out the Orochimaru connection.
 
Hymn, why do you think they would waste the time of mind reader with something like this situation? Not saying I want us to mention the fox, just that you think they would bring in a mind reader as a standard part of an investigation. And what you are saying is that the mind reader would have to be standard.

Mizuki didn't get mind read clearly so why would they do it now with a civilian compared to you know a chunin ninja who had been teaching their kids for a few years?

Well, either way it makes no difference - you haven't given it much thought in the past, because until recently you had no reason to think there's a flat-out death sentence on anyone who gets too chatty about the Kyuubi around you, but Utako has actually cursed 'the fox' in your presence before. It was before you could talk.

Mizuki wasn't connected to Orochimaru. That was a filler arc. In the manga I just assumed they killed him.

... That brings up the interesting question of why the boy who killed a chunin to graduate is treated like a complete incompetent, but then I remember Naruto's actual personality at that point of time.

...Oh man it would be beautiful if we fingered her, we were escorted back, revealed we knew, and then for whatever reason (childish innocence, Utako trying to convince us she likes us to save her own skin), the dead woman walking tries to kill us.

Don't think it could happen. I rather doubt we'd ever see Utako again fingering her.

I dunno. Looks like he just beat him unconscious. As for why they treated the boy who killed a chunin to graduate, was there any reason for people to not assume that Iruka did most of the work?

well, I was going to say something about how theres no way we could use utako, because a civvy could never get away with spilling a secret like that without our ANBU hearing it, but if they all leave us alone with her every night...

Because the Shuriken is out there with the blood. The Wound is obvious. Their skills levels aren't so seprate for one of them to get that off on the other in the open. And it's all probably in the debreifing.

What do you mean by people? 'Cause I think by people they mean investigators of the scene and those who would have reason to know, and that by people you mean fucking civilians and genin and desk-chuunin who don't know shit about dick, and the talking at cross purposes is really starting to annoy me.

Iruka clearly softened Mizuki up for him. Any talk about 'hundreds of shadow clones kicking Mizuki's ass' can be safely disregarded as Naruto's usual braggery.
 
Personally I think there's nothing for Konoha to gain and a reasonable amount for them to lose by letting it become common knowledge that the dead last in his Academy class beat up a chuunin. That doesn't say, "Ooh, this generation is tough" (even though they are), that says, "Holy shit, easy pickings!" XD

May appear like a combo of the two. But give them a little ammo and reason, and we may end up with a better excuse to go and 'connect' to the Shinobi families, under the hopes/assumptions of

"Hey, if we have Naruto befriend Ninja's, then at least he'd have some bonds and a reason to stay loyal to Konoha (as a Hokage), compared to being completely alienated by the Civilians, and a potential target for evil Kumo baby snatchers!" :p

Why would he already be considering as in the capacity as a future Hokage? Waaaaaaaaaay too early for that, especially given that we're a walking PR nightmare with the civilian portion.

Personally, if we do mention why we don't think we'd go the Academy, I'd rather wait to see everyone's reactions before we choose our next step. Furiko has been doing pretty short updates.

Plus, I want to see them pour their efforts into assuaging the 'people don't trust me' problem. Then it's the only problem they have to solve, and it's a hard one. Giving them the friends problem means they can go, "Hey, we solved this one, we've made his life better than before! Go us! We can wait on the other one, or at least see if solving the first one eliminates the need to address the other one. That one is much trickier."

Everyone who isn't briefed on the situation or the anbu who cleaned it up. Basically Kakashi, iruka, the hokage, and the anbu who sanatized the site and grabbed mizuki. This is a ninja village people.
