With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

If he has dabbled in necromancy but not become a master, then he could be a solid ally in the future. Someone other than Dr. Mist and Giovanni Zatara to counter the weirded messes. I think he might become something similar to Dr. Doom, after he pisses off enough white-and-black morality superheroes. Not a super close comparison, but the intelligence, country of resources, magical and material knowledge... Yeah, let's just hope the eventual courting from Sinestro works out in Paul's favor.
Pissing off the white-and-black morality crowd with realistic moral greyness is always good reading and good thinking. In addition, I LOVE Dr. Doom and there not being a lot of, or any that I could find, fanfictions about him, either as an SI being him or as Doom himself, is a criminal matter. I suppose he's simply too complicated a character for anyone to write properly.

I also agree strongly with the Sinestro part. Becoming enemies of Sinestro and his Corps would just be such a waste of potential, especially when Paul and the Orange Lanterns don't even have any reasons to do so. Can't wait for the first in person meeting between the two First Lanterns.

Hey, does anyone know how to change a story to a nsfw story? Or where I can go to ask some can tell me how?

This is unintentionally hilarious given the Paul that's allied with the Tau.
Not really.

Now if Paul allied himself with the Imperium, the guys that regularly commit religious brainwashing and genocide on massive scales, then it may be darkly humorous.

Yeah, the Tau are manipulative and use propaganda, but at worst their mind control comes from pheromones of the leadership and only affect other Tau, with everyone else doing stuff voluntarily (and if Farsight is to be believed, just being away from an ethereal for a while is enough to undo the pheramone control, and thus 90% of the Tau population are doing their jobs voluntarily).

Sure, if you ignore the Vespid mind control helmets and the Nagi worms.

Oh, tau aren't manipulative. They genuinely believe everything they're saying. And if they come across a bit paternalistic at times, look at who they're paternalising.

I liked Minion.

I shift position on the settee slightly, wrapping my arms more tightly around Anne-Marie's waist as she leans back into me.

"…kept living here, but if we're having children then I think it might be a good idea to consider buying a house."

"That a plural I heard there, darlin'? Abowt how many were ya'll plannin' on us havin'?"

"I didn't have a specific number in mind. I… Suppose that.. factoring in the recovery time-." I frown to myself. She was worried about the vitality draining, but honestly her super strength might be a bigger problem. "Two seems like a good number? Once we've… Got a better idea how parenthood and being superheroes mix and we actually.. know what we're doing, we could give it more serious thought." … "Ah, did you have a specific number in mind?"

"Kinda assumed I couldn't have none. If ya'll mean back when ah wuz a little girl… Fahv."

I blink. "U-ah. We can… Do five? Was there a… Particular reason for it being that number?"

"Happiest fam'ly ah knew growin' up had fahv kids. Figured it wuz a lucky numbuh. Ain't… Real sure I wanna put mahself through all that though."

"Maybe we can see how we feel after the first is on solids. So, house, or not?"

"Guess we c'n go take a look. Ya'll got anywhere picked out?"

"Not really. Given how fast I can build, I… I was sort of thinking about buying this Earth's version of the home I grew up in, flying it here and plumbing it in."

She snort, quietly. "That raht?"

"It's a very nice house. I mean I.. could just build a copy here, but it's just not the same."

"How's about we just see wut's-." Scott and Jean walk down the stairs. "Oh, hey, ya'll."

Jean smiles at us while Scott nods. "Hey. Good news?"

I feel Anne-Marie take a deep breath. "We're.. gunna try havin' kids." She shrugs, her shoulders rubbing against my chest. "Best we c'n tell, mah powers won't hurt mah own flesh and blood. Not if they're a mutant too."

Scott sort of… Tenses, and Jean's eyes sort of flick back and forth between us and her husband.

I lift my right hand off Anne-Marie and wave it back and forth. "Don't worry: if we're still living in the mansion I'll put sound insulation in."

"That, ah…" The two of them walk into the living area and take the settee opposite us, Scott looking decidedly pensive. "That wasn't why… Have you..? Though about how safe it is-. And I don't just mean Rogue's power, but there are still plenty of people who support the Friends of Humanity, and then there's-. It took a while for me to find out that-" He touches his glasses. "-ruby quartz could block my eye beam. I was.. effectively blind for years before the Professor figured it out."

I nod. "So you're asking if we talked about how we'd cope if our child got an ability with a steep downside?"

"Given… R-. Anne-Marie's… Ah…"

"Ah know wut mah power does, Scott. But mah power didn't kick in 'til ah wuz fifteen. So the way ah figure it, they'll be old enough to talk it through with us. And… If anyone can help 'em cope with it, it's the Professor."

Jean… Takes a moment to build up her courage. "Not all.. powers activate in adolescence. Some powers… Some visible… Changes, are there at birth."

I nod. "Yes. Getting a very specialist obstetrician is one of the many things on the list. We might end up having to get someone who isn't a qualified obstetrician but does have familiarity with superhuman physiology."

Scott shrugs. "I'm.. not sure that Hank or the Professor-."

I shake my head. "I was thinking of talking to Doctor Reed Richards. He and his wife both have superpowers, and I'm sure that he's thought about the potential difficulties. Failing that, there's Doctor Connors, and… Probably other specialists. Obviously we couldn't just turn up at a hospital and hope that the on-duty obstetrician could cope with it, that would -heh- be ridiculous. And… Dangerous, if their powers were active from birth."

"Ah think we all gaht powers that could go real bad, an' we all worked through it. An' ah think our chald's gaht the best chance a chald could have, even if that ain't a certainty."

Oh. Oh. Um.

"Had..? You two talked about..?"

Jean takes Scott's hand, and she nods. "It was when the Friends of Humanity were first making themselves known. A lot of hu-." She sees me raise my eyebrows. "People hate mutants. We didn't want to bring a child up in a world where they could get chased through the streets by a mob if they found out what they are."

"Oh."

Because… I mean, what can I say to that? I don't think there's really any chance-.

And then the alarm goes off!

"Huh-?"

Scott's on his feet first, closing his eyes as he replaces his glasses with the visor he keeps tucked in his jacket. Jean's a moment behind, darting over to the nearest computer console to call up the Mansion's security system. Anne-Marie doesn't move for a moment, then carefully disentangles herself from me and stands up. I float up and don my armour-.

Anne-Marie pulls me down to her and whispers in my ear.

"We need t'talk to them. That ain't-."

"I agree completely. You take Jean and I'll take Scott?"

She nods, smiling at me and-. And I think she's crying a little. And I'm on the ground because I'm emotionally compromised again and she takes a moment to wipe her face before heading over to Jean.

Scott and I follow a moment later, and Jean's-.

"One intruder. The security system's dropped them in the Danger Room."

Scott frowns. "How did they get in?"

An animation plays of a group of mechanical arms grabbing a normal-shaped humanoid. "They were on the roof."

I wince. I thought that was a dodgy one. "And… Were they breaking in, or just psyching themselves up to ask to if they could study here?"

She looks in the general direction of the Danger Room, raising her right hand to her forehead. "I feel… Confusion. Anger, fear… His body's changing, and he-. He's used to hostility."

I wince harder. "So… Probably a mutant looking for help?"

Scott's already halfway across the room, moving at a run. "Jean, let him know we're coming, then tell whoever's-" Anne-Marie and I fly past him down the corridor. "-on the console to shut it down."

Because our computers aren't fully networked, because letting a hacker access the combat robots used in the Danger Room would be a stupid idea but that also means that we can't turn them off anywhere else. And using it as part of our security system made sense last time Cain Marko visited but I think it's just really blown up in our faces.

I just hope they're alright.

Yeah, the baby potentially being crushed by superhuman vaginal muscles.

Mutant bodies really are weird and disturbing.

If you can brand or assimilate Sinister then you can have the expertise of someone with a century worth of knowledge.

I think there are two or three Marvel Pauls going around, so is this the same one who had that chat with Magneto about the pseudo-telepathic microbes?

The Xavier Mansion probably isn't the safest place on Earth to raise kids, given how many times it gets attacked. Probably a good thing it never became the sort of boarding school it did later in the comics, given that.

"I didn't have a specific number in mind. I… Suppose that.. factoring in the recovery time-." I frown to myself. Always good to be on the same page on a major thing like children. Especially if the first child is particularly gifted.

"Kinda assumed I couldn't have none. If ya'll mean back when ah wuz a little girl… Fahv."

I blink. "U-ah. We can… Do five? Was there a… Particular reason for it being that number?"
She's got goals, certainly.

"Happiest fam'ly ah knew growin' up had fahv kids. Figured it wuz a lucky numbuh. Ain't… Real sure I wanna put mahself through all that though."

"Maybe we can see how we feel after the first is on solids. So, house, or not?"
Well, parents plus kids would be seven in total. That is a lucky number. Just a matter of her tolerating the process that many times, unless they go the exo-womb route.

"Guess we c'n go take a look. Ya'll got anywhere picked out?"

"Not really. Given how fast I can build, I… I was sort of thinking about buying this Earth's version of the home I grew up in, flying in here and plumbing it in."
Even if it isn't the same place you grew up in? Also, better make sure it's extra-reinforced, given how X-men attract trouble.

She snort, quietly. "That raht?"

"It's a very nice house. I mean I.. could just build a copy here, but it's just not the same."
I get that feeling. I have fond memories of my paternal grandparents' house, a two-storey, five bedroom place they built in the seventies after retiring from a farm, right next to a beach. Absolutely my idea of 'homey' if someone asks me about it. Sadly, it's no longer in the family, after they passed...

"How's about we just see wut's-." Scott and Jean walk down the stairs. "Oh, hey, ya'll."

Jean smiles at us while Scott nods. "Hey. Good news?"
Ah, the other married couple. Well, if not for Mister Sinister's interference. Though they might have tried again afterwards...

Ah, being reminded of Alex? I suspect Jean has worries on that front too. Her sister isn't x-gene positive, but her kids do/will have potential. In the comics, anyway, at least as best I remember it.

Given they live with two of the world's foremost experts on X-gene mutations and expressions, plus can probably reach out to other super-geniuses, I think they're fine.

I nod. "So you're asking if we talked about how we'd cope if our child got an ability with a steep downside?"

"Given… R-. Anne-Marie's… Ah…"
Heh. I wonder if that 'Mutant Name' rubbish from certain runs of the comics applies here. The idea that an active mutant should abandon their human name in favour of something inspired by their power, or some rubbish. Sounds more like an excuse to not have to think up civilian names for throwaway background characters. 😏

Nightcrawler, for instance, who the X-men should have met after Paul's earlier round-up of Rogue's 'family'.

I nod. "Yes. Getting a very specialist obstetrician is one of the many things on the list. We might end up having to get someone who isn't a qualified obstetrician but does have familiarity with superhuman physiology."

Scott shrugs. "I'm.. not sure that Hank or the Professor-."
Ah, the early days when the Fox show was reluctant to acknowledge the wider parts of the Marvel Universe.

Also in the same loose universe, of course. No Franklin yet, of course... That promises to be quite the future plotline because a mutant that powerful would get a lot of eyes on them...

"Ah think we all gaht powers that could go real bad, an' we all worked through it. An' ah think our chald's gaht the best chance a chald could have, even if that ain't a certainty."

And since they have to ensure the child inherits Rogue's x-gene, they can also be fairly sure they're going to have powers.

Oh. Oh. Um.

"Had..? You two talked about..?"
Ah, yes, the many potential children of Scott Summers and Jean Grey... Who rarely hit anywhere below Omega-level, thanks to their genetic jackpot.

Yeah, even the heroes tend to forget they are still human, despite their powers. As for being chased through the streets... That wouldn't last too long, I think...

"Oh."

Because… I mean, what can I say to that? I don't think there's really any chance-.
Can't live your whole life in fear, though.

And then the alarm goes off!

"Huh-?"
Damn, always at the most inconvenient moments!

Well, there aren't any explosions going off, yet. So it might be a somewhat covert intrusion...

Anne-Marie pulls me down to her and whispers in my ear.

"We need t'talk to them. That ain't-."

"I agree completely. You take Jean and I'll take Scott?"
Heh. Persuade them not to give up on kids, even with at least one known supervillain very interested in their DNA pairing?

She nods, smiling at me and-. And I think she's crying a little. And I'm on the ground because I'm emotionally compromised again and she takes a moment to wipe her face before heading over to Jean.

Scott and I follow a moment later, and Jean's-.
He really needs to get something a little more powered. I'm not saying copyright infringement of Stark Industries designs, but...

"One intruder. The security system's dropped them in the Danger Room."

Scott frowns. "How did they get in?"
And since this is a shared universe, It's likely to be Spider-man. Even in the comics, he did have some interactions with the X-men at various times. In this case, he's in the middle of a worrying mutation of his own...

An animation plays of a group of mechanical arms grabbing a normal-shaped humanoid. "They were on the roof."

I wince. I thought that was a dodgy one. "And… Were they breaking in, or just psyching themselves up to ask to if they could study here?"
I mean, prospective X-men have had stranger introductions to the team.

Hopefully Paul's presence will ensure things are a little calmer during the first meeting.

Eh, it's that or have the entire Mansion wired with all of the restraint systems. And that just begs abuse by some supervillain.

An interesting situation. I wonder if Scott and Jean are nervous about children because of the public's threat, or because of Mister Sinister? Hopefully the newlyweds can talk some sense into their friends, and that their little arachnid guest doesn't raise too much of a ruckus in the process. Certainly, Paul might be able to help solve his problem quite easily with enough motivation.

...flying in here and plumbing it in."
...flying it here and plumbing it in."

I think there are two or three Marvel Pauls going around, so is this the same one who had that chat with Magneto about the pseudo-telepathic microbes?
Wasn't that one in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated universe? I only recall 2 Marvel Pauls, this one with the X-Men and the aforementioned A:EMH one.

And is this the Spider-Man crossover where he's transforming in a big spider? I remember thinking that the X-Men seemed real dickish about not even trying to help, but maybe they just didn't know how and I got the wrong impression.

Fortunately, Spidey gets deposited right in front of the X-Men, so they should be able to clear the mistake right up. Also free Peter from the restraints they somehow put on him.

I thought that, but no. He doesn't start mutating into a spider until after this.

At first he is just growing extra arms. Pretty sure the lady that made kraven the hunter had a half finished treatment that he took before it was ready and that was what caused him to fully transform into man spider.

And since this is a shared universe, It's likely to be Spider-man. Even in the comics, he did have some interactions with the X-men at various times. In this case, he's in the middle of a worrying mutation of his own...
I remember that episode but not well. I don't remember him actually mutating? Just wanted his powers gone. Was it that spider monster thing he tricked Vulture into taking?

What do you--?
Yeah, the baby potentially being crushed by superhuman vaginal muscles.
...wait a minute....!
@Mr Zoat
Is this true?
How do does Paul intend to make the babies? How have they been making the sex?!!

Also did Paul work out a deal with that bayou power broker X-ternal?
Also thank you for training the X-Men out of that racist mindset of calling muggles human and fundamentally divided, how is he on them calling themselves mutants?
That's a big if though given it took the Phoenix to take Sinister down, and even it had to work at it.
Well they both have shared interest in powers and genetic improvements to help. Failing that could just jettison him off planet. Preferably to a young white hot star. Though given the universe I'd be somewhat worried about him subsuming it.

By ejaculating into her uterus.
How have they been making the sex?!!
That's a fairly personal question.

If you mean 'why isn't his penis pâté' then it's a combination of his environmental shield and the vaginal canal not really being designed to crush things.
Also did Paul work out a deal with that bayou power broker X-ternal?
No, she was too pissed off about the assassins stealing tribute to stick around.

Since he hasn't been able to prove that the x-gene is artificial, they still mostly use it because everyone else does. They just accept that it's not really accurate or helpful.

I remember that episode but not well. I don't remember him actually mutating? Just wanted his powers gone. Was it that spider monster thing he tricked Vulture into taking?
What happened was that Peter started getting these mysterious pain attacks where he'd get hit with crippling pain out of nowhere before fading back to normal. I can't remember if he did some tests himself or if he went to Conners, but he found out that his body was undergoing another mutation, into what nobody knew. Which is why he went to Xavier, an expert on mutation, to see if he had a cure.

And well, the X-Men didn't exactly make the best first impression, and when Xavier replied to Peter that he didn't have any "cures", things got a little heated before Peter left, Beast went after him with a suggestion of where to look for help(the Brand Corporation), and then things went comic booky with the potential "help" turning out to be a bad guy who actually captured Beast after Peter went home, which bringsthe rest of the X-Men back into things as they are searching for Beast(and ends with the bad guy temporarily being turned into a kaiju before getting stopped and reversed back to a humanish body(with a Two-Face looking mutation as well. He would later go on to work for the Kingpin)).
