Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Las is gonna have his R&D team devise more software and programs to make paperwork go by faster, programs that would have other people in high up positions demanding he "share" to lessen their own workloads.
Las could patent his Excel Program and rake in the credits, though I imagine other companies would be quick to create their own ripoff versions to benefit in the mad rush

Edin is currently a pirate system, similar to Tortuga in real life, we need to lean into what's already there, so a merc/night city maybe, or we could turn it into the galaxies Hollywood, I don't think we ever see any big Holo films, so make it focused on entertainment creation with films, music, games, theme parks, etc.

Huh, so does Las get a promotion to go with his new responsibilities? As I understand it, the Imperial administrative grouping for multiple star systems is called a Sub-Sector, which is supposed to be governed by a Sub-Sector Moff, not a Planetary Governor. Admittedly, sub-sectors usually include quite a bit more than just two systems, but I don't know of any other administrative designation between the Planetary level and the Sector level. And while a Sub-Sector governor is the lowest possible rank for a Moff, it should still entitle him to the Moff title. So is he officially Moff Mola now?

So, moving away from the discussion of cowardly admirals and what they deserve, I've been storming up ideas for ways Las can "waste" money and I believe I've come up with some ideas that, whilst not Navally focused, could have potential worthwhile benefits for Minda and Edin's PDFs.

1.) Weapons development: So, weapons in Star Wars are kinda funky. They've got tons of greebles and kibble on them and, whilst they are all (mostly all) based upon real weapons, they're kind of fucked up, if you know what I'm getting at.

The idea I'm having is to make weapons more in the style of our contemporary modern firearms (no, I'm not saying that Las should switch to using Slugthrowers, that'd be a bad decision). It's not even like they need to be 100% accurate, it's just that the Blasters in Star Wars could be made so much more ergonomic and adaptable.

Take the A280 blaster rifle, for instance. It's obviously made from the real world AR15 (or whatever other variant they used, given that this was in the 80s, so it could be an M16 as well), and the AR platform is known to be among the most modular rifle platforms in the world.

Las could (hopefully) get R&D to create a Blaster version of the AR and have a rifle that is accepting of various attachments and modifications, that could then be upscaled to a full-sized rifle like the M16 is to the M4, similar to the Clone Wars and the DC-15A blaster rifle and the DC-15A blaster carbine; With the exception that the M16 blaster rifle and the M4 blaster carbine(?) would be more modular and accepting of attachments and modifications.

I'm hoping what I'm getting at is coming through: More ergonomic guns that are more modular and accurate (purely because the E11 doesn't have a stock, and I know that the folded thing it has is the actual real guns stock, but I've never seen it used as a stock before and it has a fucking scope, as well).

Anyway, onto the second idea I had:

2.) Armor development: Now, I know that Las has already started researching a Stormtrooper armor system, but, frankly, he has far more regular Imperial Army troopers than he does Stormtroopers, as shown by this (outdated) military strength list:
Military Strength Overview ( as of Jan 29, 2025, 1:04pm, PST)

  • 1 StormTrooper Company: 200 Troopers, 50 personal guard, 100 Support Personnel
  • 195 Imperial Army Line Companies: 152 troopers per company, 180 personnel total
Las has (at the time this list was updated and if my math (152 x 195) is correct, I will be so embarrassed if I'm wrong) then Las has, at a minimum, 29,640 Imperial Army troopers, not including the "180 personnel total" bit, which I'm taking to mean that is 180 support personnel per company like with the Stormtrooper Company having 100 Support Personnel for that one company, which means that there is also an additional (180 x 195) 29,700, totaling to: 59,340 Imperial Army troopers in the Minda system alone, not including Edin.

So, Las may have an easier time focusing on the Stormtroopers (or, at least his personal guards), but if Las wants to throw money at something? He should start dumping any other available cash not taken up by infrastructure, or reforms or other R&D projects to researching new armor systems for the Army troopers he has.

My ideas for that are as follows:
1.) Halo styled marine armor, specifically, Halo Reach.

isaac-hannaford-ih-marine08-variants.jpg
Link to image in case the image breaks: Here.

You see, when you look at the Imperial Army troopers' standard armor and uniform configuration, you'll see that they're not too dissimilar from the Halo: Reach armor designs. Well, they look vastly different, but I'm talking about the look, right. Helmet, chest armor, pauldrons. The differences, are, however, fairly clear. The configurations could be as light, or as heavy as you need.

If you've seen the in-game Marines (or, well, in Reach the soldiers you see are actually Army Troopers, not Marines, the marines are only in the very last mission of the game, so it is quite fortuitous that I picked this for the Army Troopers, eh?) you'll know that they have a wide breadth of options when it comes to both armor configurations and pouch configurations as well.

(I also should mention that the guy on the far right of the second image is an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), and not a Marine/Army Trooper. So, know that the average GI in Halo probably doesn't have that armor configuration.)

Thanks to the materials science of the Star Wars universe, you could actually make the marine armor (outside of that thigh armor as that is NxRA: Non-explosive Reactive Armor, and I have no idea how that works, so just replace it with a normal thigh plating) fairly easily. It'd certainly be better than that damn bucket helmet they have, both stylistically and tactically.

Though, the Trooper helmets would need to be specially modified if you've got, say, a Togruta that decides to join the Army, but I think you need to do that regardless of whether or not you use the standard Imperial Army armor or the UNSC Army armor.

I was thinking of adding in the other Halo marine armors in, but I personally really like the look of the Reach/Infinite Marine armor, so I think I'll just leave it at that. I think I said all that I could say, anyway, as the points I made for the Reach armor would have most certainly been made with the other Halo Marine armors.

Anyway, I'm gonna stop ranting and raving like a loon and finish this damn thing.

One of the things people forget about star wars is is that not everyone has a hand with five fingers and not everyone is fully humanoid
Yeah, this is true, but most of the races are, to my knowledge, human-enough that it doesn't really matter. The armor and uniforms can just be made in larger or smaller sizes to accommodate aliens of all sizes.

Besides, we are talking about the Imperials here: Their whole deal is a sort-of xenophobic, Human-centric empire, even if Las has aliens in his Army, they are probably the more humanoid ones than non-humanoid ones, like Twi-Lek or Togruta.

But, we don't really have an in-depth population breakdown of Minda (and now Edin), so I'm just working with the assumption that aliens like the Togruta, Twi-lek, Chiss, and any other assorted Human-like aliens, are able to move around the Empire far easier due to their more Human-like features, and are thus the most likely (I feel) to move to Minda.

And also, if I'm being honest, it's more efficient to accept aliens that closely resemble Humans into the Army as that doesn't add stress or extra expenses to the manufacturing or outfitting process, besides special modifications to account for biology like with the Togruta or Twi-lek, as examples.

A question she had ignored when the action was happening, because she was a professional, and professionals have standards.
So, Ife Veers understands that she must be polite, be efficient, and have a plan to kill any enemy she meets. I respect that. That will have her always be a step above the average Imperial officer with more connections than common sense.

So, for my contribution to the discussion of what to do in the aftermath of crushing the Crowns, I'll take this one step at a time:
  1. First, the Lucrehulk. There are multiple uses for a Lucrehulk that will definitely never see dedicated combat use again.
    • Depending on if it is allowed to travel between systems, it could be a massive addition to Minda's trade fleet.
    • It could be converted into a station for the Edin System. It can complete the set with Minda having a refit/repair/scrapyard, Clok having a refueling station, and Edin with the stationary Lucrehulk.
    • As suggested by other readers, an orbital factory for any number of products.
    • Some fourth idea I haven't discovered yet.
  2. For the Edin System, as stated by Governor Las:
Edin was a fairly sized system with four planets and a half-dozen moons between them, along with a small asteroid belt. Only one planet was habitable, but it was a hive of piracy. The Empire had little control save for a few cities, with the rest being independent farmers and criminal holdouts. There was also an old asteroid base that was now a pirate holdout by the name of Belt Haven, massive thrusters that had been attached to the thing allowed it to move around the system and escape detection, not that anyone ever bothered to root them out.
So, with the Edin System so infested with pirates, cleaning it up will take time, like a sort of local planetary campaign to bolster the local Imperial presence. Depending on how long Edin's status quo has lasted, maybe the system can serve a certain military/anti-pirate role:
  • In one way, Edin could become a sort of military-centric system for the local... I guess it's a Sub-Sector since Las now officially rules it. Having to live with pirates and criminals on the same planet and star system can make the local Imperials have a more martial mindset out of necessity.
  • On the other hand, Edin can host a much larger Guild presence to allow for a larger concentration of (non-criminal) mercenaries to be hired for the purpose of being paid to clean out the planet and space full of pirates and criminals while also, maybe, being hired as combat instructors for Edin's own Planetary Defense Force. The Guild-sponsored mercenaries can then advertise for further contracts within the new "Sub-Sector" or potentially even the Myto Sector as a whole.
  • If possible, maybe a mix of the previous two ideas.
  • Again, some other idea someone else can come up with.

3. For every other asset under Las's influence:
  • See if this victory is enough to get Commodore Veers a potential promotion or not, as well as a bigger flagship, as well as prepare her for Edin's Cleansing Campaign. Also keep Minda secure, of course.
  • Get Commander Grant an opportunity to train up, and lead, combat divisions for the cleansing of the Edin System. Also keep Minda's garrison alert and prepared, of course.
  • Start dumping new surplus funds and resources into various projects that could see limited test runs on Edin's criminal elements on the ground, in atmosphere, and in space.
That's all I have at this time. If some of these ideas were already mentioned in previous posts, then I apologize for not quoting or crediting the idea to their respective authors.

could be a good patrol and assault ship for the same cost as a fighter

A veritable swarm of vulture droids dragged themselves from the Lucrehulk's rusting hangars. Most didn't have fully working thrusters, many lacked functioning weapons, but they still had mass.

Wasti watched in horror as the metal wave smashed into one of the Victory-I's, ripping it to shreds in suicide attack that tore the bridge to shreds. The attack didn't end there, as the swarm split, ramming into every ship in range.
Clever, but wasteful. Did the saboteurs do this or the pirate couple? The former would do so to reduce the number of opposition for the next battle, but I can see the latter do this going by their previous appearance.

So, there he drifted, amongst the graveyard of his failures. Watching as the Lucrehulk powered its hyperdrive and shot off into space, the remaining droids deactivated without the center brain there to keep them alive.

All the while cursing the universe.
A shame he had to survive.

"Cease fire" she stated, looking over the Lucrehulk. "Get the Commander on the line. She has a ship to clear of pirate scum."
—---------------------------------------------

A day later, and the whole of Minda was celebrating.
"And then we won."

I get it, no life support means only the pirates with rebreathers or whatever can still fight back, but still somewhat of an anti-climax. I wonder what happened to the pirate couple. Did they escape? I liked them, they seemed funny.

What was different, and likely what caused the governor's strained look, was the passing of governance of the Edin system from the soon to be executed governor to Governor Mola.
The reward for good work is more work. Good grief, leaving aside the piracy infestation in that system, there's also the corruption to consider. He'd need to train up a sector's worth of bureacrats, ship them to the other system, and then ensure none of them get infected by the local customs or worse the Defilers.

I think that the obvious thing to do with the Lucrehulk, is somebody needs a personal craft, to get around in safety and style.

Just needs a little bling and TLC!

Everyone's talking about ships and military hardware and such, but what Minda really needs more than anything else is people. Economies are built on people, and militaries are built by economies. Having such a small population really puts a hard cap on what Minda - and by extension, Las himself - can accomplish. He needs to focus on expansion, and fast expansion at that. Minda itself is borderline uninhabited, with a total planetary population less than that of pretty much any major metro area irl, and whole continents that are basically empty, as well as an entire other planet that is habitable, but basically unsurveyed and unsettled. If he wants to dump money into something, dump it into the one activity that will bring the greatest returns to literally every other project and idea people have: bringing more people to the system.

Turn that Lucrehulk into a massive armed colony ship, send it to the Core to recruit people sick of living on those overly urbanized nanny-state worlds, where they have no real prospects beyond a shitty apartment and an overbearing government that sticks its nose into everything they do, and start hauling them back to Minda by the millions. Pour your extra money into building up the infrastructure needed to support the influx, then start bringing them in as fast as possible. Cast a wide net with a focus on people with useful skills, but even unskilled laborers add value to the economy. So long as it's managed properly, more people = more trade, more trade = more economic growth, more economic growth = more prosperity, and more prosperity = more people moving to the system, creating a positive feedback loop. And all of that results in more options and opportunities for Las.

Probably not a good idea to send a CIS ship to the core, better to go to one of the many outer rim worlds with similar conditions.

Bro, IFF transponders are a thing. Also, tons of other groups used - and still use - the Lucrehulk besides the CIS. It is still one of the most commonly used heavy freighters in the galaxy, especially in the Corporate Sector. Hell, even the Imperial Navy has a few of them in service, both as supply ships and captured CIS battleship variants as warships. Now, if Las painted it up in CIS colors and jumped it into low Coruscant orbit with no active transponder and without filing any flight plan first, then you might have a point. But otherwise? Even under Imperial rule, seeing a Lucrehulk flying the galaxy's busiest space-lanes is just another Taungsday.

EDIT: Ffs, at the end of the Clone Wars, the Empire nationalized the Trade Federation. Do you know what that means? All Trade Federation assets, including their fleets of Lucrehulks, just became property of the state-run corporation the Empire set up to replace the Federation. Lucrehulks are not a rare sight on the Empire's richer worlds. Ironically, your idea of sending it around to Rim worlds instead is much worse. Because out on the Rim is where the few surviving CIS remnants operate, meaning that's where people see a Lucrehulk and are slightly more likely to think "enemy warship", rather than "big freighter".

I'd like to see his mom come over now and try to kick him off to die in the infantry. The people would probably riot, the grand moff might get himself involved in this blatant overreach of authority, and thrawn himself would show up to vouch for las.

How much time do we have before mommy dearest comes to visit anyway?

Right? His sister was thinking the same thing after her visit, and noted that Las hasn't realized it yet, but he's already been so successful that their mother simply doesn't have the ability to enforce her threat anymore, even if she wanted to.

How much time do we have before mommy dearest comes to visit anyway?

Iirc, he has about another year or so before he reaches his mother's deadline.

Las could pack the Lucrehulk with fighters, bombers and manufacturing to resupply and repair them along with a interdiction system and have it just sit on his systems hyperlane to control the whole thing with it acting as Border Control or an Advanced Protol forward base. It gives him and the Navy more control over the system and would help keep the rebels out or at least stop more turning up that's if you want to keep them out.

yay promotion for the mc more paperwork for him
time to create a droid to do's all the paperwork
