With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Guess I'm changing it, then.

Unless I've made a mistake it's been about five days.

Except this continuity runs on pre-War of Light rules. There is no Larfleeze, Parallax is what happens when a crazy Lantern uses multiple rings in parallel and has nothing to do with a giant yellow stick insect, things like that.
is there any more earth 12 or warhammer chapters before these recent ones? anymore in the pipeline?

Just imagine the tabloid rumours that would start.:D

That they're gay you mean?

Well those cheerleaders did assume that Kon and Paul were an item, so it isn't that difficult to imagine.

Plus when have tabloids ever cared about the truth or facts?

In which case, you'd expect him to check his intel better. Wasn't this John Stewart a Marine?

That's assuming the Guardians would put such intel in the ring, or that they'd know of every single instance of someone trying to copy their tech.

"Lantern Stewart, I employ a great many lawyers. I've checked in every jurisdiction in which I do business. And I can tell you now: it does not. I could have stolen it from Ganthet's laboratory and it wouldn't make the slightest difference to the legal position. Earth does not have extradition treaties with other planets. If you think I stole it from someone on Earth you can apply for a confiscation order and have me arrested. What you can not do is steal from me."
Not entirely true, if they convinced a jury Peter Wynne stole the ring and they were returning it to the true owner then they might be able to win the case. (at least where I live)

Yeah, but Hinon did give him the ring, even if it was by accident, and she's no longer a member of the Guardians.

"Wayne Technologies reverse engineered it from crashed Thanagarian ships after the occupation."

Didn't the previous version of the Watchtower also have AG? I don't remember them floating about.

Though creating fake footage of him doing it, which can't be picked apart by human computer specialists, should be simple for the Guardians.

Now I really want this to happen. A perfectly faked video of Peter sneaking around Ganthet's lab (in cartoonishly exaggerated tip of your toes sneaking gait) wearing both a black domino mask and fake mustache, replacing the power ring with a glowing plastic fake, putting it in his $ sack and sneaking out.

The anti gravity tech from the Thanagarians is most likely more advanced than what they previously had.

While it would be funny to see that scenario, I think they'll show him teleporting into the room and taking the ring using some high tech device.

And now this makes me want a fanfic with a similar premise, with the JL getting punches for similar things. A villain that does everything 100% legally and goes after JL in an 100% legal way.

Bruce Wayne reported to Child Protective Services for endangering his adopted children.
Bruce Wayne reported for embezzlement. Same with Oliver Queen.
Bruce Wayne reported to building officials for constructing without permits.
Bruce Wayne for breaking and entering, computer crimes, theft, etc.

Actually now that I think about it, Batman is the weakest link for the JL legally speaking.

You might be able to get the Kents for falsifying documents for Clark's adoption.
I'm sure that many of the various heroes and hero adjacent civilians have at one stage perjured themselves, given false statements, or obstructed justice.

Theoretically, I wonder if you had good enough lawyers and enough money if you could kill Wonder Woman then walk by arguing that she was a magical construct (sculpted by clay and given life by Greek gods).

I assume/hope that Peter is recording all of this. Evidence of Leaguers admitting to theft is invaluable.
"And he hasn't brought the technology to market because...?"
And this is a great point, if Peter wants to make things hurt. Many of these technologies could be extremely profitable if brought to market (or at least appear to be). If there's not a good reason to not bring it to market (at least limited markets, like governments, even if not the general public). Which means... Shareholder lawsuits against Waynetech. Even if Peter doesn't have shares in Waynetech himself (or didn't own shares during the right time period to have standing), he may be able to convince relevant shareholders to sue (and fund the legal efforts).

Even if they somehow managed to do that there is still the fact that the Olympian gods may try to get revenge for the death of their champion.

I don't think a lot of people are going to decide letting a guy go on a technicality is worth having lightning destroying their cities, or plagues, well, plaguing them, or other such things.

Punishing some asshole seems a whole lot safer and easier to do than trying to survive divine wrath.

The fact that Diana is also a hero that has saved countless lives and inspired people to be better would also make judges hesitant to let the killer go on a technicality.

The technologies may be advanced, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can turn all that much of a profit if they went to the market.

This could be because people aren't necessarily interested in the product for whatever reason, or something similar like that fact that it may be difficult to mass produce or maintain in anye significant and worthwhile way.

If anyone is interested, Greensword101 does a lot of stories where characters get a reality ensues moment, and he does a lot of fics like this for the Justice League.

Check it out on Ff.net. if you're interested.

The fifth chapter of his 'Consequences' story had Green Lantern beat Crazy Steve.

If that isn't reason enough to read his work, then I don't know what is.

Huh. Surprised at how enthusiastic people are. Like, I get being mad that something was stolen from you . . . But it was a depleted ring with no means to recharge it. So to me he mostly just kind of comes off as a petulant pissbaby. And my opinion of Peter Wynn would continue to drop if he pursued action that would publicly unmask members of the League over what was essentially a glorified paper weight.

He may not care that it's gone, but he could still be upset that they broke into his home and stole his property, and all in the justification that an alternate version of him beat them up.

A lot of people would be upset if they were robbed and their robbers used some rather weak argument to justify their position.

This may be their first lesson.

If you want others to respect you and your decisions, don't make decisions using weak evidence.

"They've got until my legal department complete the forms." I look around as Booster Gold and Blue Beetle try to pretend that they're not listening in on our discussion. "Though I'm willing to extend considerable leeway if I get a orange personal lantern out of it."
Given his hate of the things mind warping effects this really doesn't make much sense...

Like, why not just ask for a green ring instead?

He's still upset that they stole something from him.

If they asked him for the ring he may have been willing to give it to them so they can dispose of it, but they stole it from him.

He also may not be able to use a green ring.

Also the Guardians are extremely unlikely to hand over some of their most advanced tech just to appease one human.

He would have to be, as Thanagarian gravity manipulation tech requires Nth metal.
In the long run, the leverage over the league he gains from the theft is likely more useful than an almost dead ring. For instance, he could agree to settle out of court for access to the Kryptonian tech database Superman has.

Or make connections with League members who he wasn't able to contact, or didn't know about, for some reason, so he can get access to their tech.

Zoat what happened to Annie the clay girl after she came back?

Peter can make the argument that if Batman can break into his home and take his jewelry, he can do that to anyone. Theft is Theft. The League endorsing sending it to Oa makes them accomplices after the fact.

If the League attempts a counter argument along the lines of 'alternate universe him was a threat, so he's a threat' then he can point to the Justice Lords and say 'you really want to argue THAT?'

The JLU of earth 12 do not have a UN mandate, nor proper legal standing with earth governments. They Are a stand alone governing body of their own, with no oversight but the founding members. Operating on the watchtower kept them outside of national laws with regards to their activities.

Heck, since space is unclaimed, they COULD legally get away with robbing Peter while he's on their space station. It's more Piracy in international waters sort of thing at that point. Much harder to sue them when it's outside of any court's purview. If they want to claim the space station as a sovereign nation they're gonna have trouble. I'm fairly certain that is one of the logical reasons they moved earth side near the end of JLU, as Metro Tower is legally within the USA and thus covered by their laws.
