With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Having access to knowledge isn't the same thing as having the knowledge. She'd have to know what it is she wanted to know and the context for that information.
Fully agreed. I was responding to the concept that assimilating Nabu got her new arcane knowledge

Was it Earth 16 Sivana that said science was fucked on Earth 10? Because the Sivana that briefly appeared in Mastermen never actually said why he would help the Freedom Fighters by giving them their weapons and powers.

Or is this some inference from the "Jewish Physics" thing that the Nazis themselves rejected? Because even that goofy bastard Himmler had plans to fund a state of the art physics institute to be headed by Werner Heisenberg. The real problem they ended up having is that, at the start of the war, they conscripted a lot of their scientists into the military because they thought it was going to be a quick and easy thing. Then the war started dragging on and they realized, oh shit, guess we better let our scientists be scientists instead of soldiers.

Because they can't just go straight from WW2 tech to Kryptonian tech. Even if they were handed shortcuts to various answers about the universe, they still had to reverse-engineer that technology and use those answers to develop technologies of their own.

Beyond that . . . I have to agree with people guessing that the demon invasion of Earth 10 isn't deliberate. At least in the sense that they targeted it in particular. They likely just didn't care what Earth they ended up invading.

Is anyone else worried Paul is being a little too trusting with Overman... I don't think giving him a lantern and an explanation on how Orange Rings work is the best idea. I know he's nicer than the other Nazi's but he still supports the regime. A sad Nazi is still a Nazi.

True, though Paul may support his efforts in reforming his society.

Paul has helped people that have done far worse things than just belong to a group that has done bad things.

Angelika's vouched for him, and it's clear that he has a strong distaste for the genocides that were performed when he was off world. He actively covered up for his universe Blitzen. No gold metals for behaviour, but it's at least someone you can have a rational discussion with. I'm sure that he'll not make it on to the multiversal christmas card list any time soon, but you can at least treat him with some professional courtesy. Given the fact that Overman's also likely much better at resisting kryptonite then Superman-12 or -16, pissing him off early in this investigation would not be particularly helpful for either side. Best stick with the standard British Politeness until such time as you can hand him off to the League.

And I'm sure Batman-16 has spent a few minutes pondering nazi supermen invasions since Angelika showed up, and it'd be a shame to waste all that pre-planning.

Paragon thinking he's sane and avoided the negative effects of the Orange Light never ceases to amuse.
He didn't assert that he was sane.

He asserted that he was stable.

Like Batman, he's channeling his insanity in a productive direction, and he's well aware of this fact. But he maintains control over his mental faculties. He isn't going to unexpectedly go off on a single-minded short-sighted rampage on a whim.

Here's another potential correction on an old post:
Zatanna looked composed. On the surface. Almost. But her jacket couldn't complete disguise the tension in her shoulders, or the rhythm of her breathing. She way trying to pretend, trying to disguise how she was feeling by acting like a porcelain statue: one sharp push from shattering into a thousand pieces.
I think that should be "was".

That Nabu seems a lot like the one from Kingdom Come, in the far future. He had a similar deal where his cultists would wear him (painfully) and then die when he made them take him off.

Since I'm currently re-reading the part where Truggs stole Paul's rings while we're witnessing the consequences of Trugg's foolishness, I thought I'd share something I had forgotten. The Ophidian really didn't like him:
Agent! Join with me! Let us pull the bones from his still living flesh together!

Also, that exchange made me laugh so hard that my throat hurts now.
No. Ophidian- "Ugh" -I appreciate your support immensely, but we're perfectly capable of retaking our property without violating our moral beliefs.

Your moral beliefs.

And since you don't have any of your own, they're yours as well.

I get an impression of her pulling her head back in confusion.

No KC Dr Fate is the helmet floating around without a host like a ghost.

Again, the depiction of this Nabu is from Vertigo's Books of Magic.

Fall Over (part 2)

Tibbets Prison. Unusually for the pre-War United States -and doubly so for anything related to Project Safehouse- it was a surprisingly moral institution, focusing on rehabilitating its inhabitants without torture or mind control or explosive neck braces. Really, the only thing dodgy about it is that some of the machinery was being field tested here and so wasn't completely reliable. Given that it was being field tested for the vaults, that means that it started breaking down after a mere century after the War rather than lasting until the present day. A lot of the people in the surrounding settlements can trace their ancestry back to prisoners who completed their sentences here and were released after the bombs fell.

And then that lunatic Victor Presper tried to trick the AI into wiping out most of the surviving American population, but he's been terminally dealt with now.

ODYSSEUS's programming won't let us do the sensible thing and turn the prison into a town, but it was the best prison in the former United States. ODYSSEUS has been perfectly happy to let WARDEN send prisoners here, and I've been able to convince President Kimball to send captured raiders this way rather than just shooting them. WARDEN has provided the resources to bring the place fully up to specification, and my specialists have been able to provide the design schematics necessary for ODYSSEUS to make improvements.

The… Stage area is a new development.

Why did she pick today? We have a war to fight tomorrow. And yes, I'm not personally needed-.

**Chief Krono!**

The slight tremor in the mental signal implies that someone's using a booster choir to reach me here in Colorado. I don't need one to reply, but that sort of a thing is a strain to everyone involved.

**Krono here.**

**Miss Vialla has been abducted by a giant robot!**

I watch as ARGOS pulls up-

THUD.

-alongside the new inmate walkway and open his hatches, Miss Vialla cautiously exiting the third opening.

**Yes, I know. I'm looking at both her and the robot now. She appears unharmed.**

**Her bodyguards have already informed President Vialla.**

**[Calm] Then they're doing their job. Please assure President Vialla that I have the matter in hand. It will not be necessary to assemble a rescue team.**

**Ahhhh…**

**Ahhhh?**

**According to the Brotherhood of Steel, the robot also abducted Elder Katherine Törni of the Alamo Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. They were pursuing it in vertibirds.**

Ah yes. There she is. I don't know.. why; the Alamo Brotherhood represent the worst tech-stealing head-in-the-sand aspects of the Brotherhood's character. I spoke to her exactly once when I was trying to rally support in Mexico and got precisely nowhere. Once I talked Santa Anna into focusing on developing Mexico into a beacon of success and so encourage Texans to want to be governed by him I rather stopped thinking about them.

**And he jumped on board and is heading this way?**

**Yes.**

I'm a.. little surprised that they let him, but I suppose that they needed a local guide.

President Nguyen looks my way as she heads cautiously down her wire-enfenced walkway, and I awkwardly wave. I think she knows who Elder Törni is, but I doubt that she'll recognise Miss Vialla. Ah, there's General Guerra. And… That's Veronica Santangelo. She's a lesbian. And married. Why did-?

Crazy robot is crazy. Right.

**Have we had any other reports of a giant robot abducting people?**

**No.**

**Okay. Thank you for warning me. I do not believe further action is necessary, but please contact me again in eight hours for confirmation.**

THUD.

Another woman, dressed in the loose fitting homespun clothes I'm most familiar with being worn by New Canaanites, combined with face paints of the sort usually worn by Ammonites, disembarks from ARGOS. I don't even know who she is.

**Yes Krono.**

I blink as I lose the connection, the women who Doki thinks are suitably armigerous reaching the end of their walkways and taking positions at their podiums, the small electronic scoreboards attached to the front displaying 00.

"Doki, who is that?"

"Tears-In-The-Rain! She is the eldest daughter of Chief Balm-Upon-Wounds of the Ammonites! Her father wanted his children to grow up in houses rather than tents, and she wants to carry on their ascent up the civilization tree! She matches you on the metrics of aspiration and hard work!"

Her avatar robot's head rotates towards me, left and right emoticon being left and right curling biceps while the central one is a grinning face.

"Are you interested?!"

"I just.. didn't recognise her."

THUD.

"That's an Assaultron."

"She's an Assaultron! Definitely feminine!"

In the sense that they have nuclear power plants in the upper torsos while the cheaper Protectrons have batteries mounted mid-torso, along with legs designed for powerful thrusts rather than the slow toddle that Protectrons do, resulting in 'breasts' and broader hips. Someone in RobCo -and according to him it wasn't Robert Edwin House- decided that the thing to do therefore was give them all female voices.

"Her name is KL dash E dash Zero, but she accepts Kleo, and she likes killing and tools for killing!"

One of which she has built into her face. Though she doesn't appear to be unduly troubled by her environment, even taking the time to stroke one of ARGOS's missile pods with her right claw-hand before progressing down the gantry.

"And how is she a match for me?"

"Your strongest social relationship is with Mister Goris! He is stronger and faster than you, providing you with constant high-quality protection! As your girlfriend, Kleo could do the same, in addition to being able to interface with pre-War systems and technology!"

Just go with it.

That appears to be all of the contestants… Not sure whether to be relieved or horrified.

"No Diana?"

The left emoticon is the tree symbol of Twin Mothers, Diana's tribe. Then come an 'X', and lastly an image of Tlaloc. These are then replaced by the dread letters: 'O' 'T' and 'P'.

"And how can I argue with that?"

I look up to where all of the women are at their podiums, looking either nervous (Veronica and Tears-In-The-Rain), blank (Kleo) or angry (the rest). Looking up a little further I see that the inmates have gathered at viewing galleries all around the courtyard, looking down on the show with the same bewilderment that I feel.

**Ladies, I'm very sorry about this.**

Doki marches towards the centre of the courtyard, half-dragging me behind her.

And those are television cameras why are there television came-?

"WELCOME, CONTESTANTS, TO 'THE WASTELAND'S MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR'!"

**I promise that this wasn't my idea.**

'and to'

"I just.. didn't recognise her."

Don't know why, but this kinda sounded like something you'd see in a movie where the guy finally noticed the girl.

She's an Assaultron! Defiantly feminine!"

'Definitely'

Well, now there may be one Paul that's going to date a robot.

As your girlfriend Kleo

'girlfriend, Kleo'

Found an old error. That should say Ondaate.
No it shouldn't.

I likely story since he has securitrons with female personalities with him.

Would love to see chat between Paul and House since they have pretty similar goals.
"WELCOME, CONTESTANTS, TO 'THE WASTELAND'S MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR'!"

That has to be the motto of most Wasteland weirdness.

Weeeeelllll. At least he won't be called the Cake Man. Just: The Bachelor.

...Please tell me it was long enough after that it wasn't an immediate death sentence from radiation poisoning, I hope... Then again, I can see the staff not caring, especially if it was AI controlled. Let me guess, WARDEN's base of operations?

And then that lunatic Victor Presper tried to trick the AI into wiping out most of the surviving American population, but he's been terminally dealt with now.

Huh. I honestly assumed the AI would be the other way around, what with the names and all. Still, good to see it returning to the use it was made for... Kind of?

The… Stage area is a new development.

Why did she pick today? We have a war to fight tomorrow. And yes, I'm not personally needed-.
Morale-boosting? She wanted to make sure you weren't injured? She's just cuckoo for woo-hoo?

**Chief Krono!**

The slight tremor in the mental signal implies that someone's using a booster choir to reach me here in Colorado. I don't need one to reply, but that sort of a thing is a strain to everyone involved.
So best to be quick with the reply, then. Don't want anyone's brains catching fire...

**Krono here.**

**Miss Vialla has been abducted by a giant robot!**
Yes, he noticed. Now, who else is in there, then? I doubt it went after every eligible female in a hundred miles, or something stupid like that...

I watch as ARGOS pulls up-

THUD.

-alongside the new inmate walkway and open his hatches, Miss Vialla cautiously exiting the third opening.
Honestly, this delivery is probably not going to make any of them more compatible...

**Yes, I know. I'm looking at both her and the robot now. She appears unharmed.**

**Her bodyguards have already informed President Vialla.**
Well, they'd be slacking if they didn't, after all... Don't tell me, Daddy is on his way after the 'bot, riding his fastest horse and all the guns he can carry?

**[Calm] Then they're doing their job. Please assure President Vialla that I have the matter in hand. It will not be necessary to assemble a rescue team.**

**Ahhhh…**
 ...Oh, god, is he? I was just joking!

**Ahhhh?**

**According to the Brotherhood of Steel, the robot also abducted Elder Katherine Törni of the Alamo Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. They were pursuing it in vertibirds.**
So the show is about to have some fireworks, later.

**And he jumped on board and is heading this way?**
 ...Lots of fireworks.

**Yes.**

I'm a.. little surprised that they let him, but I suppose that they needed a local guide.
...You figure he waved them down with AA guns, and forced his way on board? Because that's exactly what I'm picturing...

Right.
And clearly programmed to be heteronormative. I'm honestly not surprised...

**Have we had any other reports of a giant robot abducting people?**

**No.**
Unfortunately... That doesn't mean he didn't snatch people who lack the ability or reason to contact your forces...

I definitely don't know who any of these people are... I'm just sitting back here with some murray mints and enjoying the show...

**Yes Krono.**

I blink as I lose the connection, the women who Doki thinks are suitably armigerous reaching the end of their walkways and taking positions at their podiums, the small electronic scoreboards attached to the front displaying 00.
If she hadn't already made it clear what the losers would be doing, I'd be worried...

"Doki, who is that?"

"Tears-In-The-Rain! She is the eldest daughter of Chief Balm-Upon-Wounds of the Ammonites! Her father wanted his children to grow up in houses rather than tents, and she wants to carry on their ascent up the civilization tree! She matches you on the metrics of aspiration and hard work!"
...Huh. Well, she's certainly got ambitions... I will laugh if she wins...

Her avatar robot's head rotates towards me, left and right emoticon being left and right curing biceps while the central one if a grinning face.

"Are you interested?!"

"I just.. didn't recognise her."
...Which makes me wonder how Doki Doki handled the selection process... Besides poorly.

o_O ...What even...

"She's an Assaultron! Defiantly feminine!"

In the sense that they have nuclear power plants in the upper torsos while the cheaper Protectrons have batteries mounted mid-torso, along with legs designed for powerful thrusts rather than the slow toddle that Protectrons do, resulting in 'breasts' and broader hips. Someone in RobCo -and according to him is wasn't Robert Edwin House- decided that the thing to do therefore was give them all female voices.
...That someone is probably a pervert with unusual tastes, then...

"Her name is KL dash E dash Zero, but she accepts Kleo, and she likes killing and tools for killing!"

One of which she has built into her face. Though she doesn't appear to be unduly troubled by her environment, even taking the time to stroke one of ARGOS's missile pods with her right claw-hand before progressing down the gantry.
...Can love bloom on this battlefield? I can't help but imagine ARGOS' optics turning a little pink...

"And how is she a match for me?"

"Your strongest social relationship is with Mister Goris! He is stronger and faster than you, providing you with constant high-quality protection! As your girlfriend Kleo could do the same, in addition to being able to interface with pre-War systems and technology!"
...What about the whole 'reproduction' thing? Or is that not a factor?
"They can adopt!"
 Riiiiiight...

Just go with it.
I think you're going to be repeating those words quite a bit today, Krono...

That appears to be all of the contestants… Not sure whether to be relieved or horrified.

"No Diana?"
...Is that good or bad? Is the lady likely to feel insulted by being ignored when she hears of this? Oh, you just know word of this will spread faster than radiation!

The left emoticon is the tree symbol of Twin Mothers, Diana's tribe. Then come and 'X', and lastly an image of Tlaloc. These are then replaced by the dread letters: 'O' 'T' and 'P'.

"And how can I argue with that?"
 ...Okay, then.

Not as sorry as he's going to be afterwards...

Doki marches towards the centre of the courtyard, half-dragging me behind her.

And those are television cameras why are there television came-?
Please, don't them be actually working... Oh, hell, Krono's legend is about to grow, isn't it?

"WELCOME, CONTESTANTS, TO 'THE WASTELAND'S MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR'!"

**I promise that this wasn't my idea.**
Alas, poor Krono. We hardly knew him... :D

I get the feeling the main story is about to take a darker turn, if we're getting something this batshit insane to balance it out. Still, seeing this play out might well feel like watching a Japanese game show with no subtitles: You have no idea what's happening, but it's so funny you can't stop. Bring on Round 1! :p

-and according to him is wasn't Robert Edwin House-
-and according to him it wasn't Robert Edwin House-

I realize that their personalities wouldn't work at all, especially given what little shared history they have, but I'm personally pulling for Elder Katherine Torni. I've got a soft spot for the BoS in general and the Alamo chapter from OWB in particular. Though I suppose Krono should count himself lucky, a year or two earlier and he would have also gotten Paladin/Elder Sarah Lyons.

As an aside, I actually rather liked the Fallout 4 BoS expeditionary force under Elder Maxson but I'm still rather sad we never got to see the BoS under Elder Sarah Lyons. It just felt so cheap, dropping a vertibird on her offscreen during the time between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. It barely comes up at all!

And clearly programmed to be heteronormative. I'm honestly not surprised...

Or maybe there aren't any compatible men, or Doki doesn't know Paul is bi.

Paul is bisexual, but aside from Paragon we haven't seen any version show interest in men, so maybe while he can be sexually attracted to both genders, he prefers women.

What about the whole 'reproduction' thing? Or is that not a factor?
"They can adopt!"
 Riiiiiight...

Most versions adopt children.

Still, seeing this play out might well feel like watching a Japanese game show with no subtitles: You have no idea what's happening, but it's so funny you can't stop. Bring on Round 1! :p

Now I can't help but imagine that episode of Supernatural where Gabriel traps Sam and Dean in TV land and one of the events is a Japanese game show in which a wrong answer will get you hit with a metallic ball to your balls.

That could be a good deterrent in this game.

If Krono screws up then he gets metal ball to his balls.

I'm so very sorry. I memed:

Thank you, corrected.
Please tell me it was long enough after that it wasn't an immediate death sentence from radiation poisoning, I hope... Then again, I can see the staff not caring, especially if it was AI controlled. Let me guess, WARDEN's base of operations?
No, WARDEN operates out of Denver. The Chinese had no reason to bomb Tibbets Prison, and so the area around it was relitively low in radiation.
And clearly programmed to be heteronormative. I'm honestly not surprised...
The programming is Japanese, so...
OTP is 'one true pairing' which I assume means that the robot is shipping whatever the fuck 'Tlaloc' is with Diana. Or possibly the entire tribe Diana is a part of.
Even the Enclave knew that occupying all of China would be impossible. As such, they turned to robotics and arteficial intelligence. Tlaloc is the prototype of a region policing governance AI that they build in central Mexico, where he's been active since just before the bombs fell. Due to sabotage, he decided that his highest duty was to serve and protect the people of Mexico rather than the US government, and has done a reasonable job ever since. He was decaying due to lack of maintenance, but Krono arranged for that to get fixed and he's now much healthier.
