Finally… Twilight. I hate this choice… but leaving this Twilight here would be truly, terribly cruel… I think we have to take her with us. Twilight in our realm is broken and heartbroken and… I honestly don't know how things would change with her being here, but she'd escape the Wolf. She'd have some great and terrible EVENT wrought upon her that might kickstart her into figuring out a solution.

Modern medicine and therapy could help her in ways that Equestria can't… overall, she'd have a better chance on the foggy side of the mirror. She could learn so much… and we could come back for her, once our new Twilight reached Knock 5. Once she too had the Silver Key, she'd be more prepared to cross over, and we'd be FAR more prepared to solve the issues… and we could check on her, and let Cadence check on her- if her Lore level reached high enough…

And Our confidante would learn magic, and grow, and become so much more than she ever could on that side…

And I know that this is all INTENSE Copium, but I just…

This feels like the lesser of two tragedies? We abandon her after giving her such hope, or… or we save her truly. I just…




I can't believe how beautifully tragic this is, or how painful this is. Especially given what I know I'll pick… some hope is better than none, even if I feel horrible in the process.

But every option with Twilight here is a tragedy. So what else can we even do?

I highly doubt modern medicine will be able to help with whatever the Human equivalent of a broken horn is. The Forge's Redemption is the only thing that can fix otherwise unrecoverable injuries like that; no amount of plastic surgery or physical therapy would have been able to truly fix Velvet's leg.

On my own thoughts, I feel like deliberately screwing over an innocent pony we hurt by stranding her in what is functionally a cramped and mean parody of her home is a moral reach too far for me to be comfortable with. I think the best thing to do is to simply come back to the real world with the Fragniclave and Diary now and get the extra action point to further our preparations.

Oh, there's an idea, I was wondering what would happen if we tried to let Twilight talk to Twilight, hash things out between the two of them, I wonder if there's some way we could set them up passing messages back and forth.

If we were ever to draw Twilght's attention then the opportunity to talk to a mirrored version of herself might do it.

Honestly, "Sci-Twi" seems to be in a pretty stable (if unhappy) place, I genuinely don't see a reason to hurry into anything. Axe is likely to be, pretty pleased with the results of this excursion, so I doubt it would be too much of an imposition to ask her to reopen the Foggy Mirror. Heck, the text of the Sacrament explicitly states that Axe can reopen the Way as many times as needed.

So, I propose that we declare that whole promise thing to be an overhasty slip and utilize this matter as the proper opportunity that it is. It takes a Twilight to understand a Twilight, let's let Harmony make its bones with the whole "friendship is magic thing".

I also want to sit down to tea with Cadance and just open with "so I was wandering around in a parallel dimension I found on the other side of a Foggy Mirror and I met another Twilight Sparkle who desperately needs care and support, you think you could help me with that?"

Edit: remember that whole "awaken Luna immediately by shredding the blanket" ritual? I'm of a mind to consider this Twilight-swap thing to be of a similar stripe. It would work as described, but it would be a crude and needlessly destructive solution. [The Rite Of The Father And Mother] was a far kinder and better resolution.

After expending two pseudo turns on exploring the nature on the Matrix, I'm very interested in not just leaving and completely ignoring it. I'm pretty sure we'll get useful stuff out of this.

I'm less sure about the Stormchaser and Principals, but if we're going for the first two, one of these looks like the best third option. Principals in order to be able to deal/help with Celestia in the real world, or Stormchaser to leave Mirror Velvet in a better place/fulfill this dimension's purpose as a place of love.

About Twilight. Holy shit. Seems like the best possible action for her would have been never to approach her in the first place (it rhymes!).

Now that we've actually done so, I'm partial to leaving Mirror Twilight in the Mirror, and talking with Unicorn Twilight if possible. I'm not completely against doing the switch, but it sounds like an absolutely monstrous thing to do (what the hell Velvet?).

That would be an awful use of the very precious resource that is our time.

I'm saying haste makes waste and I refuse to be frightened into doing something permanent after being told that I've made a commitment that I certainly don't remember making. We voted to look further into the Twilight situation, and we got useful information from Axe on the feasibility of moving otherdimensional Twilights around.

Now while a certain level of tutelage could be assumed from yon "let's follow up with Twilight" decision, giving her any sort of fairy-promise of taking her away to another world is simply beyond the pale. Therefore I'm honestly most of the way to considering it an OOC slip rather than believing that we've made such a commitment un-voted for.

What I'm saying is that we most certainly can come back, and that we do not need to go all the way to changeling-swaps to help our newfound Twilight. She wouldn't be expecting to come away with us if someone hadn't made promises in our name, and absent that regular productive correspondence and the occasional visit would most certainly be a vast improvement over her current situation.

Nor am I suggesting that pony!Twilight be summarily dumped through the Mirror so we can get an upgrade, I'm suggesting that she might appreciate a uniquely fascinating pen pal. On a similar note, I'm suggesting that Cadance, brought on as a "subject matter expert", as it were, from the beginning would be able to help us avoid kriffing everything up. Heck, Cadance could be exactly what Sci-Twi needs in her life.

On the matter of AP, I honestly don't know what else the readership expected from this, if they want a Twilight they'd better be prepared to commit.

not THAT much weirder.

It's basically a videogame world. when you leave your area/map, you fast travel to the new area and "vague memories" of the trip are downloaded in your long-term memory. It's a visual novel or JRPG where the time in between cutscenes and gameplay sessions is basically a hazy dream.

Maybe it can be done post-All-In expedition... or we could use something like the Forge Ritual to change the way she looks? I mean, if we can repair a leg surely we can just... change the color of one's fur?

Because on one hand, the last time you interacted with her… every time you interacted with her, she has somehow ended up suffering.

You tried to teach her the Lores, and she nearly went insane. You told her to trust her mentor, and she rushed headfirst into a danger she was not prepared to face. You promised her you would save her, and then she suffered at the hoofs of the Cult, and then as a prisoner of Copper.

Through your actions, no matter how indirectly you were involved, you saw her lose her little dragon, and then the attention of her brother, and the very magic that was always so important to her.

As much as it pains you to admit it, sometimes you think it would have been better if you had never met her. And that, if you had never been introduced to her by Rarity that day, she might not have become the lifeless and hopeless husk that she is today.

And then we could, I don't know, fake her being a foreign immigrant.

Interesting. I dislike that she didn't give them a choice, but then again she had good reasons, that can't be denied. The life of an Adept is not easy, and their blood might very well make them valuable. For example they could probably be very good "ritual sacrifices".

Hard to say, but it will at least give her closure. And a way to move on.

...It's kinda sad. If she'd still been alive, maybe things could have been better. We could have freed Axe, and then SHE could have come here.

I'm not sure I'm willing to do that.

Is there a way to make it work without dooming Equestria's Twilight? I can't think of one right now. Maybe we could try to teach EQG Twilight enough that she might get a Silver Key of her own? If Axe allowed us to travel back and forth we could teach her, and if she has a Knock affinity that would be long-term viable...

as always, we'd be making the choice for Twilight. and this time we can't even rationalize it as "we're doing what we think it's best for her" because no, banishing her to a different dimension can't POSSIBLY be justified in a "it's for her sake" way!

@OurLadyOfWires I think you were too hasty with this option. I don't suppose you could at least add some kind of third option?

a few potential ideas:

1)Organize things so that EQG Twilight and Pony-Twilight can talk to each others
2)Organize things so that EQG Twilight will become a "local" confidant and sort of "correspondence" student. We leave her our lore books, maybe visit again to teach more in the future, try to have her reach Knock 5 and a Silver Key of her own...
3)We try to point her at either Principal Celestia, or maybe to Rarity/Fluttershy/the other main 6...
4)teach her enough that she can progress on her own and prove she's not crazy, and maybe she'll try to develop magitech in this world on her own...

It'd be one thing if we were also offering Equestria-Twilight the possibility of switching, and she also wanted it. It's another if we're just doing it with absolutely no warning or consent, which is how it seems like it'd work.

Edit: @OurLadyOfWires what exactly is going on with the reflection swap? Can/do we go to pony-Twilight and offer her the same deal before we start doing reflection swaps, or are we just like. Breaking into her house and chucking her through the mirror.

I suspect it's not gonna be so brute-force-ish, but it's gonna be even more inevitable than that given the nature of a reflection if we go through? (Probably similar to whatever "shedding" does, even if neither Twilight is a snake)

At the moment, I'm leaning towards exploring the two options our investigation of the dream has brought us, and hoping that gives us a third option when it comes to Twilight.

Similarly, I'd be willing to vote for spending time with Rarity and Fluttershy in the hopes that we can push them and Twilight together if we end up leaving Twilight behind.

Alternatively, I'm also interested in looking into Luna and Celestia, in the hopes that will help us with Daybreaker in our own dimension.

That's what I'm saying, she sent us off with barely anything more than an impression of a direction and we're bringing back not only definite closure but the literal Key to her bindings. She's going to be very pleased/satisfied/surprised with the results of this adventure, and we know from Silky that she hates feeling like she's indebted to anyone. Which is not to suggest that this should be a transactional matter, but after we unceremoniously dump the Frangiclave in her hooves I can't imagine she'd have any reason or inclination not to open the Mirror again if we ask nicely.

I can think of a reason for her not wanting to be reminded of the place where her sister chose to die (or rather, live out her natural lifespan), but then perhaps wanting to visit her grave in-person might outweigh that?

I think I remember the QM saying that Axe's willingness to reopen the Door here depended on her mood/relationship with Velvet. Given that the the Frangiclave is seemingly the thing that completes her friendship quest (as well as the Diary giving her closure), I think she will likely be relatively amenable to reopening it.

We're kidnapping her AGAIN and putting her in a mirror funhouse of her former reality, where she STILL does not have magic, Spike is PROBABLY a dog instead of a person (what an insult!), and she'll have to pretend those bipedal simians who sort of remind her of her parents ARE her parents.

Honestly there's a good chance that she'd be sent to a psychiatric ward shortly after.

in any case, EVEN if it might end up better than this (and presumably we'd have a follow up vote on the how we accomplish that) it doesn't change the fact we'd AGAIN be making a decision for her, and kidnapping her again.

This is the number one option to vote for, in my opinion. Learning how this place works might allow us to return when we want, or it might open up other opportunities like alternative options for Twilight.

Swapping Twilights is not a kind act. It is incredible cruel and selfish. If anything, learning how to make one of the mirrors might let the two of them talk.

The two exploration options are the ones I definitely want. Going with the library and the Principles for now. They could offer interesting insights into Velvet's world and open up possibilities in this one. The library is just a mix of potential loot and interesting background.

I don't think there's much use for the cellphone now. Stormchaser could be interesting, but I'm more interested elsewhere. Same with the Rich family and Cheerlie, except don't think it really ties in with our other choices. The two student options are tempting though. There was magic in EG cannon, so potentially bringing them together with this world's Twilight could have some interesting possibilities.

You have already shown her something that appears to be magic. You have already poked that part of her... let's say "curiosity".

I think that, in character, Velvet would have made that promise. Even if it was a on-the-moment thing she just blurted out. She is too caring, too mothering and too nurturing, so it's just the kind of language she uses.

But if this really is impacting how you want to consider this vote (and I think that is more important right now), then aye. Canonically, Velvet did not promise anything, and I'll also change the option to reflect that.

Now that the threshold is crossed, I don't mind talking about it.

There were dice rolls and uncertainties, yes. And things could have gone wrong or taken a little longer. But from a game-design experience I think it's good for me to ensure Sacraments are feasible, and to some extent predictable.

So, if you really look at the Sacrament options, most of them follow a bit of a rule of thumb. Sacraments whose requirements can be "spaced out" across time generally take three actions (three EiB rituals, three SH meditations, etc). While Sacraments that need to be rushed generally need two actions on the same turn (Baldomare + Velvet, for a total of two actions, going on an expedition, etc).

There aren't really a lot of Sacraments, in the grand scheme of things. And they are all individually tweaked and personalized. But that was the basic mold I used when I started working on their requirements.

@OurLadyOfWires I think you were too hasty with this option. I don't suppose you could at least add some kind of third option?

a few potential ideas:

1)Organize things so that EQG Twilight and Pony-Twilight can talk to each others
2)Organize things so that EQG Twilight will become a "local" confidant and sort of "correspondence" student. We leave her our lore books, maybe visit again to teach more in the future, try to have her reach Knock 5 and a Silver Key of her own...
3)We try to point her at either Principal Celestia, or maybe to Rarity/Fluttershy/the other main 6...
4)teach her enough that she can progress on her own and prove she's not crazy, and maybe she'll try to develop magitech in this world on her own...

Well then.

1 - You do not want to interact with Pony-Twilight, and the logistics of making the talk would involve third parties and things you cannot control such as Axe, and you do not want to interact with Pony-Twilight. So, not something you are willing to do.
2 - You should not assume you will be able to return to EQC once you leave. So you will not make any plans (or be offered any options) with that assumption in mind.
3 - I... fail to see what difference that would make. Human Twilight already has access to those people, and the fact she never interacted with them or developed a bond with them (as far as you can see) indicates that putting her "in touch" with them would either have no effect, or break down back into the previous status quo the moment you left. Plus, again, you already showed her magic exists.
4 - You do not have nearly enough time for that.

This decision only feels hasty if you look at how much time passed from the end of the vote till the update was posted. Not if you look at how much time I spend thinking about this "route" beforehand

@OurLadyOfWires what exactly is going on with the reflection swap? Can/do we go to pony-Twilight and offer her the same deal before we start doing reflection swaps, or are we just like. Breaking into her house and chucking her through the mirror.

You are not counting on any eggs you do not have in your basket at this exact moment. To the point that you don't even know if DoA would make a path back to EQG even once, should you return home at this exact moment. So, you are assuming you will only be able to cross the foggy mirror (and make your way back) exactly once.

In order to bring Human Twilight back, you need both Twilights to be standing in front of their foggy mirrors, you need DoA to guide pony Twilight through, and you need to accompany human Twilight back through the mirror.

Consequently, you will ask DoA to do what needs to be done on her side of the mirror (and she will do it), and you will do things on your end of the mirror.

And given how you will both "jump" through the mirror at the same time, you won't even interact with pony Twilight once the deed is done.

That is, in very broad terms, the logistics of what will happen.



Now, let me make this very clear that the options are being offered "as-is".

You showed Twilight what you showed her, and you told her what you told her, because you (the thread) and you (Velvet Covers) have very complicated feelings about our favorite purple horse. And this current situation, being an exception among exceptions, is an opportunity to do something. And whatever you decide here will educate me on what Velvet Covers truly cares about.
The fact remains that you played a part in ruining Pony Twilight's life. And the fact remains that you showed Human Twilight a glimpse of magic. I am not saying this to torment you, and I honestly am not making any moral judgments here. This is just the cards you have been dealt to play with.

Is it valid to say that you will be "kidnapping Twilight and throwing her in a mockery-world she knows nothing about"? Yes, that is a valid interpretation.

Is it valid to say you will take an extremely traumatized and damaged pony, and take her somewhere she will have living parents, a caring brother, a loving dog, and modern therapy? Yes, that is also a valid interpretation.

I am only offering the choices, and describing the actions that will be taken depending on which is picked. You guys are the ones who need to ascribe morals to them.

And in all honesty, I am right now concerned with drafting DoA's reaction to your return. Because that is something I have been wanting to write for a very long time now.
